Smesny

Joseph Winson Smesny, 29, of Pasadena, died Saturday, February 25, 2012, near Bolivar, Texas.

Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 29, 2012, at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church with burial following at St. Anne Catholic cemetery in Eastgate. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Tuesday, at the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.

Joseph was born July 20, 1982 in Houston, to parents; Joseph H. and Andrea Jenkins Smesny. Joseph was a former resident of Kingwood, and has resided in Pasadena for the past six years. He was a marine analyst for Marine Systems, Inc., attended Humble High School and Universal Technical Institute, member of St. Clair of Assisi Catholic Church, and an Eagle Scout. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, farming, gardening, photography, ranching, S.C.U.B.A., and racing. The only thing bigger than Joseph’s smile, was the size of his heart. He will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, son, and brother.

Joseph was preceded in death by his grandparents: Joe F. Smesny and Ervie Winson Jenkins. He is survived by his wife of four years: Katy Whitlow Smesny of Pasadena, son: Joseph Charles Smesny of Pasadena, his daughter on the way, parents: Joseph H. and Andrea Jenkins Smesny of Kingwood, sister: Lauren Smesny Wade and husband Trey of Ft. Worth, parents-in-law: Phil and Pat Whitlow of Deer Park, grandmothers: Marveline Smesny of Eastgate and Inez Jenkins of Houston, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

For those who desire, a Joseph W. Smesny Memorial Fund account has been made at the Security State Bank at 501 N. Cleveland St. Dayton, TX 77535, 936-258-0066.

Hajovsky

Larry Steven Hajovsky, 45, of Liberty, Texas, died on February 24, 2012 in Houston, Texas.

Larry was born January 22, 1967 the son of Lawrence and Dorothy Hajovsky in Houston, Texas. Larry was a faithful member of the Liberty Fire Department where he served the community for several years. Larry was also an Eagle Scout as well as a leader in the Liberty High School band during his years of school. Larry loved his children as well as tending to his cattle. Besides being a member of the fire department, Larry was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Elk’s Lodge and the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.

Larry was preceded in death by his father, Lawrence Hajovsky, grandparents Mr. and Mrs. E.S. Hajovsky and Mr. and Mrs. C.R. Krenek. He leaves behind to cherish his memories his wife Carol Hajovsky, sons Luke and Zachary Hajovsky and daughter Abigail Hajovsky all from Liberty, mother Dorothy Hajovsky of Liberty, mother and father in-law Leo and Pat Ruesewald of Dayton, sister in-law Pam Litton and husband Dale of Liberty, Marianne Gott and husband Dwayne of Liberty, brother in-law Jerry Ruesewald of Liberty and Joe Ruesewald and wife Rhonda of Cleveland and a host of nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Monday, February 27 from 5pm to 8pm at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Liberty. A funeral mass will be Tuesday, February 28 at 10am at the church with burial to follow at the Immaculate Conception Catholic cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Luke, Abigail, Zachary Educational Fund, c/o Prosperity Bank in Liberty.

Cline

Mary Joyce Pugh Cline, 84, of Hankamer, died on Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at the Arboretum in Winnie with her family by her side. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, February 25, 2012 at Sweet Home Baptist Church in Hankamer under the direction of Sterling Funeral Home in Anahuac. Interment will follow in Abshier cemetery in Liberty County. A gathering of Tis's family and friends will be from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Friday at the funeral home.

She was a member of Sweet Home Baptist and served as church clerk for 28 years. Mary was the clerk for JP PCT. 5 in Chambers County. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; parents, Marshall and Chollye Evans Pugh; sisters, Dorothy Abshier and Margaret Ann Harmon.

Mary is survived by her daughter, Cheryl Flowers and husband, Kenneth; sons, Robert Cline Jr. and wife, Dianne, Jonnye Cline and wife, Betty; 14 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren, sisters, Evelyn Mayes, Paulette Beazley and husband, Herbert; brother-in-law, Buddy Harmon; numerous nieces nephews and a host of other family and friends.

At Mary's request in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Unit of the Arboretum in Winnie, TX.

Williams

Ava Jewel Majors Williams, 91, of Tarkington, died peacefully Thursday, February 23, 2021 in Cleveland.

She was born February 21, 2012 in Tarkington Prairie to parents Johnny Aaron Majors and Edgeworth Morris Majors and had been a lifelong resident of Liberty County. She had been a member of the Rebecca Lodge of Liberty, had worked for Sav-Way, Peoples and Franks. Ava loved to garden, sew and be with her family.

Services for Mrs. Williams will be 2:00 p.m., Sunday, February 26, 2012 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home, Dayton. Interment will follow at Ryan cemetery. Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. until service time on Sunday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Williams is preceded in death by her parents, Johnny A. Majors and Edgeworth Morris Watson; nine brothers and sisters and grandson, Chuck Slankard. She is survived by her daughter, Beverly Robinson McDaniel of Tarkington Prairie; son, Franklin M. Robinson of Grand Prairie; four grandchildren, Ken Hooper, Scott Robinson, Kim Peoples, and Jill Robinson; seven great-grandchildren; five great great-grandchildren; sister, Mae Fregia of Batson; family friend, Ann Tucker of Tarkington Prairie; also numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Artis

Wallace Artis, Sr., 82, of Wallisville, died Feb. 20, 2012. Visitation will be Feb. 25, 2012 from 9AM until Funeral 11AM at Proctor’s Mortuary, 518 Miller St. Anahuac, TX. Internment in Godfrey cemetery, Wallisville, TX.

Wallace was preceded in death by his wife: Zola Mae Artis. Mourning his departure, yet cherishing his memories are, Sons: Wallace Artis Jr. (Tessa) of Port Arthur, Ronnie L. Artis Sr. (Maricela) and Hubert A. Artis Sr. of Baytown, John P. Artis (Stacey) of Houston, Samson M. Artis (Terri) and Creig J. Artis (Nicole) of Wallisville, Daughters: Judy A. Meekins (James) of Anahuac and Brenda S. Briggs (Cedric) of Wallisville, 29-Grandchildren and 13- Great Grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

Ladkins

Nathaniel A. “Nate” Ladkins, 11, of Dayton, died Saturday, February 18, 2012, at his residence.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 25, 2012, at the Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel in Dayton. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., Friday, at the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.

Nate was born May 22, 2000 in Baytown, to parents; Demetrius O. and Alice E. Mayo Ladkins, and has resided in the Dayton area throughout his life. He was a fifth grade student at Kimmie Brown Elementary, and enjoyed playing basketball and video games, swimming, and listening to music.

He was preceded in death by a half-sister: Trista and survived by his father: Demetrius O. Ladkins of Baytown, mother: Alice Mayo Ladkins of Dayton, stepmother: Michelle Lee Smith of Dayton, sisters: Dominique Ladkins of Dayton, Brittanie Ladkins of Dayton, Alexis Ladkins of Dayton, half-brother: Jace Deloach of LA, grandparents: Mary and Frank Gonzales of Dayton and Everlena Reed of LA, and numerous aunts, uncles, other relatives, and friends.

In lieu of usual floral remembrances the family requests that donations be made to a special fund at Wells Fargo Bank Account # 1559872203 at 2329 N Main St, Liberty, TX 77575, in Nate’s name.

Holden

Gracie Holden, infant child of Jason and Michelle Holden, of Saratoga, went to be with her Paw Paws on Monday February 13, 2012.

She held our hand for only a moment but she will hold our hearts forever.

She is preceded in death by her PawPaws, David Sellers and Dan Holden, Sr.

She is survived by her parents, Jason and Michelle Holden of Saratoga; brother, Jason Holden Jr., of Saratoga; grandparents, Milton and Cindy Hayden of Many, LA; grandmother, Josey Sellers of Saratoga; great grandmother, Doris Crow of Batson; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

A graveside service will be held 3:00 p.m. Thursday February 23, 2012 at Guedry cemetery in Batson, officiated by Reverend Alvin Tomlinson.

David

Funeral Service for LaRhonda Rochelle David, 21, will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, February 22, 2012 in Wells Memorial Chapel, 300 Alabama, Liberty, with the Rev. Joseph Rogers, officiating under the direction of Wells Funeral Service.

LaRhonda was the third child born to Lionell and Delilah Trahan David. She was born May 4, 1990 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Houston.

She died on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2012 at San Jacinto Methodist Hospital in Baytown.

She is survived by her parents, a sister Lakisha David and a brother Lionell David II. She is also survived by her grandmother: Josephine LaChapelle Trahan and a host of other relatives and friends.

Edmonds

Floyd Dwight Edmonds, 62, of Oak Island, died Friday, February 17, 2012. His final moments were filled with peace and his family was by his side.

Floyd was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, thoughtful son, playful brother and a great friend.

Family and friends gathered on Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at his church home, Oak Island Baptist Church, to celebrate his life and share fond memories with each other and to lay his earthly body in its final resting place. Floyd was a pillar of the church during its rebuilding process after Hurricane Ike, and faithfully continued to serve the church until the end.

Floyd was preceded in death by his father, Floyd Dalton Edmonds, wife, Terry Hale Edmonds, son, Kyle Dwight Edmonds and brother, Carlton Glenn Edmonds.

As a lifelong resident of Anahuac, Floyd built strong relationships with many people in the community. He had many friends that helped him and were there for him every step of the way. He was a family man, and considered many of his friends a part of his family. Floyd's heart was with the 4H and FFA, where he spent time and effort nurturing not only his children, but many others as well.

Much like his father, Floyd was a jack-of-all-trades. He farmed rice and soy beans most of his life, and was a lifelong rancher. He had a catering business, Floyd’s Chuckwagon, that won many cooking competitions.

One of his favorite activities other than cooking, was sitting out on his porch with the many people that drove out to come see him and talking about life. Floyd will be greatly missed by the people that he left behind, but they have peace in that he went to be with his Heavenly father and is now fully restored.

Floyd is survived by his wife of 13 years, Robin Otwell Edmonds of Oak Island; mother, Velma Edmonds of Anahuac; daughter, Kristin Edmonds Cothren and husband Dana of Baytown; daughter, Mallory Hisler of Waco; grandchildren, Kase and Lexi Cothren; and a host of other family and friends.

Floyd will continue his fight with ALS by giving the gift of life to ALS Research and his equipment to other patients. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Edmonds Memorial FFA Scholarship.

Socha

James Lawrence Socha Sr., 73, of Liberty, TX, died on Thursday, February 16, 2012 at his residence with his family by his side.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather and brother.

Funeral services will be held at 3:30 P.M. on Saturday, February 18, 2012 at Hardin Baptist Church under the direction of Sterling Funeral Home in Dayton. Interment will follow in Cooke cemetery in Liberty. A gathering of James family and friends will be from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Friday, February 17, 2012 at Sterling Funeral Home.

James was a member of Hardin Baptist Church. Before joining Hardin Baptist James was a member of the Knights of Columbus. James is preceded in death by his parents, John Joseph and Helen Anne Ziemba Socha and daughter, Mary Socha.

James is survived by his wife of 51 years, Adele Kapera Socha of Liberty; daughters, Donna Marie Moore and husband, Kent of Liberty, Kelly Hansen and husband, Erik of Liberty; son, James Lawrence Socha Jr. and wife, Laura of Hemphill; grandchildren, Angela Moore, Rebecca Bishop and husband Chris, Renee Kelly and husband, Justin, Quintin Socha, Jessika Socha, Timothy Socha, Alex, Andrew, Anthony Cordray; great grandchildren, Madyson, Dalton Bishop; sisters, Margie Serafin, Eileen Robinson and husband, Mark; brother, John Socha and wife, Nancy; and a host of nieces nephews and other family and friends.

Pallbearers will be Quintin Socha, Timothy Hansen, Ryan Claussen, Bob Groves, Mike Bradford and Mark Kapera.

Reid

Barbara Jean Reid, age 63, of Cleveland, Texas, died Tuesday, February 14, 2012 at Kingwood Medical Center.

She was born November 15, 1948 in Houston, Texas. She is preceded in death by her father Hank Perry; sisters Mary Boultinghouse and Debbie West; brother James Perry; grandmother Helen Utley; grandfather John Utley; nephew Dennis Senter; and her niece Sherry Cook.

Survivors include her mother Donna Loflin and husband Ollie; daughters Pamela Stirratt and companion Debbie, Sandy Kenslow, Debbie Robert and husband Andy; son Brian Taylor and wife Stephanie; sister Patsy Coats and husband Bobby, Kathy Gierhant and husband Wes, Janet Allen, Donna Hansen and husband Ross, Linda Limas and husband Rudy; brothers Billy Perry, Mike Perry wife Linda, Phillip Perry, Timothy Perry, Mark Perry; ten grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and other cherished family members and treasured friends.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, February 18, 2012, 11:00 a.m. at New Caney Family Worship Center, 23214 F.M. 1485 Rd. New Caney, Texas 77357 or call (281) 689-7065. (All floral arrangements are to be taken directly to the church.)

Hall

Shirley “Gamma” Stan Hall, age 76, of Cleveland, Texas, died Monday, February 13, 2012.

She was born April 8, 1935 in Detroit, Michigan to parents Nick and Mary Stayden who preceded her in death along with her husband James Hall; son Matthew Hall, daughter Rebecca Hall and her niece and nephew Renee and Jim McKinnis.

Survivors include her children Belinda Reighart and husband Tim, Zachary Hall and wife Patricia, Cynthia Hall; sister Molly Berger and husband John; grandchildren Stevie Johnston, Raelynn Ferrell and husband Matt, Zachary Hall, Nicholas Hall, and Rachael Taylor; great-grandchildren Stoney Lynn Johnston, Mackenzee Hall, Ella Hall, Miles Leon Ferrell, Noah Hall, Kayden Michael Johnston, Layken Rae Lee Johnston; nephew Scott Berger and wife Cynthia

Visitation will be held Thursday, February 16, 2012, 5:00-9:00 p.m. at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home, Cleveland, Texas. Funeral services will be held Friday, February 17, 2012, 10:00 a.m. at Pace-Stancil Chapel, Cleveland, Texas.

Garrett

Johnny Lynn Garrett, 59, of Oak Island, died on Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at his residence.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend.

A memorial will be held at a later date under the direction of Sterling Funeral Home in Anahuac.

Johnny was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Nell Kelly Garrett; daughter, Misty Garrett; and a brother.

Johnny is survived by his wife, Marsha Laird; daughters, Carol Bannett, Jinny Crawford, Krissie Garrett, Kayleene Garrett, Mary Flores; sons, Jay Garrett, Matt Garrett and Curtis Garrett; 13 grandchildren, and 1 great grandchild; and a host of other family and friends.
