Vickie Lynn Woodside, 56, of Beaumont, formerly of Silsbee, Texas died Saturday February 11, 2012 at Harbor Hospice of Beaumont.

A native of Dallas Texas she was born on December 6, 1955 to James Stewart and Julia Fletcher. Vickie was a cashier for Walmart in Silsbee for many years. She is survived by her husband Mike Woodside of Beaumont, brothers Mike Stewart, David Kuehn, Mark Stewart, and Sonny Kuehn all of Houston. Sister Angela Stewart of Houston, and a host of other family members and friends. Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Faith & Family Funeral Services of Batson.

Lazo

Antonio Lazo, Jr., 66, of Dayton, died Sunday, February 12, 2012, at the San Jacinto Methodist Hospital in Baytown.

Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 15, 2012, at the St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church with burial following at Palms Memorial Park in Dayton. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., Tuesday, with a rosary service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.

Antonio was born December 2, 1945 in Guanajuato, Mexico, to parents; Antonio, Sr. and Priciliana Monzon Lazo, a former resident of Dallas, and has resided in the Dayton area for the past five years. He was a farmer, attended St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, and enjoyed gardening and his yard work.

Mr. Lazo was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his sons: Roberto Lazo and wife Gloria of Dallas and Augustin Lazo and wife Maricruz of Dayton, daughters: Lidia Gallegos and husband Martin of Dayton, Antonia Mora and husband Miguel of FL, and Rosalba Cervantes and husband Rene of Dayton, brothers: Nicolas Lazo of MX, Manuel Lazo of MX, Dolores Lazo of MX, and Delfino Lazo of MX, sisters: Amalia Lazo of MX, Luiza Rodriguez of Nederland, Irene Hernandez of MX, and Esperanza Rallas of MX, 13 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Scherer

Lucille Whitmire Scherer, 100, of Anahuac, Texas, passed away Friday, February 10, 2012 at Kindred Hospital East in Channelview, Texas.

Services for Lucille Scherer will be Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at 2pm at the 1st United Methodist Church in Anahuac.

Lucille was born in Madisonville, Texas on June 30, 1911 daughter of John and Alice Whitmire. Lucille was a house maker and lived in Anahuac for the past seventy-three years. She attended Madisonville High School. Lucille was married to Duncan Scherer for fifty years until his death in 1988. Lucille enjoyed cooking and baking. Lucille was also an accomplished crocheter.

Lucille is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Walter Duncan Scherer and ten brothers and sisters. She is survived by two sons; Walter Duncan Scherer Jr of Anahuac and Warren Scherer of Baytown, eight grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

Arrangements are under the direction of Sterling Funeral Home, 1201 South Main, Anahuac, Texas 77514.

Moyer

Robert Joseph “Robbie” Moyer, Jr. left this world to find peace in a much better place on February, 13, 2012.

Robbie was born on June 8, 1959 in Little Rock, Arkansas and was taken from his family and friends way too soon after a brief battle with cancer. He is preceded in death by his father, Robert Joseph Moyer, Sr., mother, Lucil Mizer, brother, Kelly Moyer and sister, Sindy Moyer.

Robbie moved to Liberty in 1996 where he continued his business of 34 years, Moyer’s Home Maintenance and Remodeling. He loved spending time with his family and friends, fishing and coaching Little League Baseball. He adored all of the kids he coached and was a great mentor to many of his children’s friends even into their adult years.

Robbie is survived by his wife of 25 years, Michelle Moyer, daughter, Nikki Moyer Taylor and husband Jesse Taylor, son, Mitchell Moyer, mother-in-law, Bernadine Mills, sister-in-law, Christi Johnson and husband Stacy Johnson, nephew, Mason Johnson, niece Rylie Johnson and brother-in-law, Mark Mitchell. Robbie will be deeply missed by his family and friends. A memorial service will be held Thursday February 16, 2012 at 7PM at Allison Funeral Service, 1101 N. Travis Liberty, Texas visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. .

Guy

Loyce Mae Newborn Guy, age 82, died Saturday February 11, 2012 at her home with her loving family by her side.

Loyce was born in Liberty, November 11, 1930 the daughter of the late Jacob Andrew Newborn and Adenisa Vincent Newborn. A career educator she worked for over thirty-five years for Liberty ISD at the Middle School as an Educational Diagnostician and Reading Specialist. Her career spanned over generations in the Liberty School System educating till her retirement at the age of seventy-five. She enjoyed studying her ancestry, growing orchids, collecting Santa Claus figurines, eggs, and Jewelry. A world traveler she obtained her Bachelors from Lamar University, and advanced her degree to achieve her Masters degree in eleven different certifications from Stephen F. Austin. Loyce was a member of the First Baptist Church of Liberty, Daughters of the American Revolution, Daughters of the Republic of Texas, Coterie Club, Ancestry Club, and Phi Kappa Phi.

She was preceded in death by her parents as well as a brother J.A. Newborn. She leaves behind to cherish her memory her son Paul Humber and wife Candy of Liberty, daughter Ann Horvath and her husband Chuck of Mt. Vernon, NY, her twin sister Joyce Fae Rubash and husband James of Liberty, her lifelong companion Howard Guy of Liberty, three grandchildren, Will A. Humber, J.D. Humber, and Claire Horvath. In addition she leaves two great grandchildren Keaton Humber and Abigail Humber.

Visitation will be held Tuesday February 14, 2012 from 5-8PM at Allison Funeral Service, 1101 N. Travis Liberty, Texas. A funeral service will be held 10AM Wednesday February 15, 2012 at First Baptist Church in Liberty with burial to follow in Fairlawn cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the First Baptist Church of Liberty, PO BOX 88 Liberty, Texas 77575.

Sackett

Lissie Jane Billingsley Sackett, 92, of Dayton, died Thursday, February 9, 2012, at the Liberty-Dayton Community Hospital in Liberty.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, February 13, 2012, at the First Assembly of God Church in Dayton with burial following at Ryan cemetery in Tarkington Prairie. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., Sunday, at the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.

Lissie was born January 29, 1920 in Dayton, to parents; Benjamin O. and Sarah E. Ott Billingsley, and has resided in the Dayton area throughout her life. She was a retired nurse’s aide from Dayton Memorial Hospital, member of the First Assembly of God Church, and enjoyed quilting, bingo, dancing, flowers, and spending time with family.

Mrs. Sackett was preceded in death by her parents, husband: Woody Ray Sackett, son: O. W. “Buddy” Sackett, daughter: Loretha Laverne Young, grandchildren: Darrell E. Stephens, Carl Ray Sackett, Jerry Barber, Carla D. Young, and Dennis Sacket, Jr., great great-grandchild: Tyler Schneiter, brothers: Elmer, Earl, James E., and J. D. Billingsley, sisters: Eunice Burwick and Sara Franklin, sons-in-law: Glenn Franklin, Bill Boyett, Wallace Stowe, Vernon Stephens, Sr., and Freddy Baker, and daughters-in-law: Patricia Sackett and Debra R. Burks.

She is survived by her daughters: Linda Matthews and husband Charlie of Dayton, Bennie Stowe of Dayton, and Evyonne Boyett of Dayton, sons: Woodie G. Sackett and wife Kat of Liberty, Robert Sackett of Liberty, Dennis Sackett and wife Sue of Quinlan, Jimmy Dale Sackett and wife Terry of Dayton, and Ricky Sackett and wife Sammy of Liberty, sister: Alma Long of Jasper, 53 grandchildren, 72 great-grandchildren, 27 great great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Matlock

Earl Hubert Matlock, 58, died Thursday, February 9, 2012 in Baytown, Texas after a brief illness.

He was born July 10, 1953 in Tacoma, Washington to parents Earl Nathaniel Wade Matlock and Greta Kathy Cayton Matlock and had lived in the Dayton area since 1993 previously living in Corpus Christi. For the past six years Earl had been employed by the Sheldon Mud as district manager. He loved being with his family and enjoyed his garden, fishing, and carpentry.

Services for Earl will be 2:00 p.m., Monday, February 13, 2012 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home, Dayton with interment to follow at Palms Memorial Park cemetery. Visitation will be 10 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Earl was preceded in death by his father. He is survived by his wife, Kim Kovar Matlock of Votaw; his mother, Greta K. Cayton Davis of Kentucky; his daughter: Jackie Greene and husband Tim of Dayton, his sons, James Matlock and wife Nikki of Dayton, and Jeremy Matlock and Dara of Dayton; his stepchildren, Bud Reed and Rana Meyer of Dayton, his brothers, Larry Matlock of Kentucky, Ronald Matlock of Kentucky, and Jesse Matlock of Indiana, his sisters, Kitty Matlock of New Jersey and Cynthia Archibald of Indiana; grandchildren, Cynthia, Jason, Cierra, Zachary, Alexis, Nathaniel, DeeDee and Tristan; great-grandchildren, Aleister and Hunter; special companion, Tammy Lockhart; also numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends

Damek

Joy Damek, 78, of Tucson, Arizona died on Thursday, February 9, 2012.

Joy was born on March 5, 1933, in Richland, Texas. She met and married John Damek, Jr. in Houston, Texas where they lived until residing in Dayton, Texas for the majority of their lives. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Dayton and worked briefly at the Liberty County Clerks Office and the Dayton Library. Joy, a loving wife and devoted mother and grandmother was a homemaker who enjoyed cooking and baking for her family. Four years ago Joy and her husband, John, moved to Tucson, Arizona to live near her son and daughter-in-law, Keith and Martha Damek.

Mrs. Damek was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, John Damek, Jr., her parents, James Glover Cessna and Ada Stevens Cessna, and her brother, James Cessna. She is survived by daughter, Cynthia Damek Fernandez and husband, Philip, of Riverview, Florida and son, Keith Damek and wife, Martha of Tucson, Arizona along with grandchildren Lauren Fernandez, Philip G. Fernandez, and Ryan Damek, one sibling, Wilma Peoples, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Visitation will be 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., Monday, February 13, 2012 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home, 1304 N. Cleveland (Hwy. 321) in Dayton, Texas. Services will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 14, 2012 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home with interment to follow at Magnolia Park cemetery, Dayton, Texas.

Van Dorn

James Jerrold “Jimmy” Van Dorn Sr. died February 10, 2012, in Baptist Hospital, Beaumont, Texas.

A visitation will be held Monday, February 13, 2012, from 5pm until 8pm at Allison Funeral Service Chapel, Liberty, Texas. Services will be held Tuesday, February 14, 2012 at 2:00pm, at Central Baptist Church, Daisetta, Texas officiated by Reverend Bill Fabriquez. Burial will follow at Hardin Chapel cemetery.

Jimmy was born in Port Arthur, Texas, December 22, 1935, the son of Tyra and Maggie Taylor Van Dorn.

He was a graduate of Hardin High School and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.

He had his own service stations in Raywood, Liberty and Hardin for 20 years.

He lived most of his life in Liberty County and sixteen years in Somerville, Texas.

He was ordained and licensed by Bro. Breland, First Baptist Church of Liberty, Texas.

His first church to pastor was East Liberty Baptist Church, a mission church of First Baptist of Liberty.

Others pastored were; Moss Hill Baptist, Raywood Baptist, Central Baptist of Daisetta for 15 years, First Baptist of Somerville for 16 years and most recently Central Baptist for almost 10 years.

He enjoyed farming, raising cattle, fishing, hunting, reading and studying his Bible. He wrote many sermons.

He enjoyed his fruit trees and gathering the fruit, as well as spending time with his family, gathering for meals, holidays and any reason.

He held a special place in his heart for his dog, Fred. Jimmy will be missed by his family and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a son, Bill Van Dorn.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife Estell, sons; Jim and wife Nedra Van Dorn of Hardin, Texas, Dan and wife Joan Van Dorn of Sand Springs, Oklahoma, daughter, Melody Deckert of Hardin, Texas, brothers, Paul and wife Kay Van Dorn of Lexington, Texas, Art and wife Jan Van Dorn of Granbury, Texas, sisters, Damaris and husband Clinton McClendon of Fort Worth, Texas, Peggy Bryant of Harlingen, Texas, four grandchildren; Erik and wife Reba Van Dorn, Jill and husband Mike Romig, Clint Wade Deckert, Felicia Deckert, and eight great-grandchildren.

Arrangements are under the direction of Allison Funeral Service, 1101 N. Travis St., Liberty, Texas 77575.

Collins

Georgie Courville Collins, 84, of Saratoga, died Thursday February 9, 2012 in Silsbee.

She was born November 26, 1927 in Sunset, La She had lived in Saratoga for the past 50 years and had worked for 25 years as a bookkeeper for Davis Tie Mill that was located in Votaw. She was a faithful Catholic and member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church of Sour Lake.

She is preceded in death by her husband H. D. “Doug” Collins and her parents Alphonse and Elise Courville.

She is survived by her son, Ronnie Collins of Saratoga; sisters, Theresa Stelly of New Iberia, La; God Child, Lisa Moss of Franklin, LA; grandchildren, Jason Collins of Pineland, Jeff Collins of Sour Lake; great grandchildren, Jackson, Lane and Logan.

Her family will be receiving friends at Faith and Family Funeral Services Chapel on Saturday February 11, 2011 from 11:00 a.m. until the time of Service. A service of remembrance will be at 1:00 p.m. also Saturday February 11, 2012 at Faith and Family Funeral Services Chapel, with Reverend Alvin Tomlinson officiating interment to follow at Guedry cemetery of Batson.

Semien

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Mrs. Alma Lena Cantania Semien, 82, of Liberty, at Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church in Ames at 10:00 AM, Saturday, February 11. 2012. The Reverend Father George Okaehialam, M.S.P., as Celebrant with burial in Ames Catholic cemetery.

A native of Liberty, Mrs. Semien was born to Margarito and Edna Melonson Cantania on April 1, 1929. She attended school in Liberty and worked at Autumn Hills Nursing Home (now Liberty Healthcare Center) as a nurse’s assistant. Mrs. Semien passed away on Saturday, February 4, 2012 in Liberty at Magnolia Place Healthcare Center.

She leaves to cherish her memory four sons: Joseph C. Semien, Sr. of Ames, Otis A. Semien, of Raywood, Michael W. Semien, Sr., and John W. Semien, Sr. both also of Ames; two daughters: Edna M. Colmenero of Ames and Mary Rita Semien of Liberty; one brother: Clem Cantania of Liberty; ten grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held at the church from 8AM until time of service.

Wise

William Dewey Wise, 73, of El Paso, Texas, died on February 8, 2012 while here visiting and working on his weekend home in Liberty.

Mr. Wise was born on December 9, 1938 in Wharton, Texas, to parents, William Marvin Wise and Vivian Villes Wise. He was in the U.S. Coast Guard and retired after over 22 years of service. He had a Masters in Business Administration and was retired from Raytheon Company. He was a big fan of the University of Texas Longhorns.

Mr. Wise was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Wise, two sons; Russell Wise and Kurt Wise, two daughters; Jeanette Bates and Jennifer Wise, one sister, Dale Stokes and five grandchildren.

There will be a visitation Friday, February 10, 2012, from 5pm until 7pm at Allison Funeral Service Chapel. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, February 15, 2012, at 1 pm at Fort Bliss National cemetery in El Paso, Texas. Arrangements are under the direction of Allison Funeral Service, 1101 N. Travis St., Liberty, Texas 77575.
