Griffin

George Clifford Griffin, age 89, died Wednesday November 7, 2011 in Silsbee, Texas.

George was born November 24, 1921 in Pennington, Texas the son of the late Alvin Griffin and Ira Gay Griffin. He enjoyed being outdoors, hunting and fishing, with his late wife Mary Teten Griffin. A veteran of WWII, George served in the US ARMY from 1942 till 1945 earning the rank of Tech Sergeant. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brothers, Claude Elbert and Glenn, and a sister Betty Lou. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his sons Bert Griffin and wife Linda of Kountze, Calvin Griffin and wife Darla of Sour Lake, daughter Connie McMillan and husband Rocky of Tyler, brothers John Howard Griffin of Youngsville, LA, and Billy Ray Griffin of Nacogdoches. In addition he leaves behind four grandchildren, Kevin Griffin, Brant Griffin, Amanda Moore, and Rene Hill as well as five great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held Wednesday November 9, 2011 from 5-8PM at Allison Funeral Service, 1101 N. Travis Liberty, Texas. A graveside service will be held 10AM Thursday in Guedry cemetery, Batson, TX.

DeVille

Rebel Wayne DeVille, 50, of Dayton, died on November 7, 2011 in Liberty, TX.

Services will be held on Thursday, November 11, 2011 at 2 P.M. at the Sterling Funeral Home Chapel in Dayton. A gathering of family and friends will be held on Wednesday, November 10 from 5 -8 P.M. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Palms Memorial Park in Dayton.

Rebel was a disc jocky at Bayou 104 and later painter by trade and worked in the construction industry for many years. He loved horses and baseball. Rebel was a member of the North Main Baptist Church in Liberty.

He is preceded in death by his father, Beau DeVille; grandparents, Bertha Raymer, Mildred DeVille, and John Doyle Kervin; aunt, Annie Wise and uncle Howard Mizell as well as a cousin, Carla Watson.

Survivors include: mother, Johnnie Wiegman; daughter, Karian DeVille; stepson, Alex Schilling; brother, David DeVille and wife, Nancy; nephew, David DeVille Jr. and two nieces, Haleigh DeVille and Bethany DeVille. Also, surviving are a host of other family and friends.

Services have been entrusted to: Sterling Funeral Home, 602 North Main, Dayton, TX 77575, 936-258-2678.

Cobb

Doris Virginia Cobb, 75, of Crosby, Texas, died on Wednesday, November 2, 2011, at Deerbrook Skilled Nursing Rehab Facility in Humble, Texas.

She was born on Wednesday, September 30, 1936 in Zwolle, Louisiana. She has resided in Crosby, TX for the past four years. She was a graduate of the Mt. Carmel High School class of 1954, was a homemaker, Baptist by faith and enjoyed flowers, gardening, fishing, reading, and her pets.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Wylie Marion Starks and Mary Elizabeth Oliver; brothers, Wylie Starks, Jr. and Charles Starks; sister, Delight Starks Gable and granddaughter, Gina Easley.

She is survived by her husband of four years, M.L. Cobb of Crosby, TX; 2 daughters, Debbie Self and husband Stan of Many, LA and Kathy Easley and husband Pete of Fortuna, CA; 1 stepdaughter, Phyllis Cobb Foust and husband J.M. of Kingwood; 2 sons, Jeff Keys and wife Sahira of Many, LA and Todd Keys and wife Teresa of Ellensburg, WA; 1stepson, Keith Cobb and wife Loretta of Dayton, TX; 3 brothers, Glen Starks of Florien, LA; Cliff Starks of Slaughter, LA and Joe Starks of Many, LA; 3 sisters, Jean Weldon of Florien, LA; Jerri Lampin of Nacogdoches, TX and Joyce Starks of Florien, LA; 11 grandchildren; 10 step grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren along with numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, November 5, 2011 at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, Florien, LA with Rev. Marshal Ingle officiating and Bro. Carl Scroggs reading the Eulogy. Interment followed at Mt. Carmel cemetery, Florien, LA.

Local arrangements were under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.

Bell

Katherine L. “Kathy” Brewer Bell, 52, of Houston, died Thursday, November 3, 2011, at the Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday, at the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.

Kathy was born February 18, 1959 in Conroe, to parents; Joe Davis and Mildred Josey Brewer, and has resided in the Houston area throughout her life. She was a homemaker, attended the Church of Jesus Christ of Ladder Day Saints, and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, her rose gardens, rock collecting, and cooking.

Mrs. Bell was preceded in death by her father: Joe Davis Brewer, Sr., brother: Dale Brewer, and nephew: Gilbert Ray. She is survived by her husband of 20 years: Lewis Ray Bell, Sr. of Houston, daughter: Teresa Segura of Houston, sons: Charles Boudreaux and wife Nicole of Dayton, Robert Lee Boudreaux of Houston, Richard Segura of Channelview, and Lewis ray Bell, Jr. and wife Kathi of Bryan, mother: Mildred Josey Brewer of Houston, sisters: Margie Stanley of Cleveland, Debbie Lynn Brewer of San Antonio, and Mabel Casillas of Houston, brother: Joe Davis Brewer, Jr. of LA, and numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Simon

Lee Allen Simon Sr., 71, of Oak Island, died on Tuesday, November 1, 2011.

He was a loving husband, Dad, Papal.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, November 4, 2011 in the chapel of Sterling Funeral Home in Anahuac. Interment will follow in Anahuac cemetery. A gathering of Lee's family and friends will be from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Thursday, November 3, 2011 at the funeral home.

Lee was a native of Anahuac and moved to Oak Island in 1998. He was preceded in death by his parents, N.C. and Doris Dew Simon; daughter, Sharon Ann Simon; brother, Harvey Simon; grandson, Anthony Simon, great-grandson, Kaden Lamptom.

Lee is survived by his wife of 13 years, Jo Simon; sons, Lee "Skipper" Simon Jr and wife, Shannan; Thomas Edward Simon and wife Pam, Damien Simon and wife, Shawna; stepson, Roy Allen Thomas and wife Lois; daughters, Tammy DeRise and husband, Billy; Angelique Moulton and husband Chad, Kyliegh Lynn Adams; stepdaughter, Rhonda Thomas; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; and a host of other family and friends.

Holifield

Daniel Maurice Holifield, age 69, of Cleveland, Texas, died Wednesday, November 2, 2011 at his residence.

Daniel was born March 16, 1942 in Laurel, Mississippi to parents, Morris Holifield and Pearl Dement Holifield who preceded him in death. Bro. Melvin Holifield will preside over memorial services being held 4:00 p.m., Saturday, November 05, 2011 at Pace-Stancil Chapel, Cleveland, Texas.

Survivors include his loving wife, Sharon Parish Holifield; daughter, La Shelle Holifield Beale and husband, Ricky; son, Daniel LaMonte Holifield and wife, Rebecca Dawn Kelso; brothers, James Melvin Holifield and Dylan Cole Holifield; grandchildren, Jackie Brent Holifield, Brandon Wesley Beale, Jeremy Joseph Beale, Matthew Daniel Beale; great-grandchildren, Brycen Holifield and Tenley Holifield; nephews, Anthony Dwayne Holifield and wife, Joanna; nieces, Lisa Marie Holifield and husband, John; numerous other cherished family members and treasured friends.

Stark

Delbert Wayne Stark, 72, of Silsbee, formerly a long time residence of Rye, died Wednesday November 2, 2011 at Silsbee Convalescent Center of Silsbee.

Delbert was born on December 12, 1938 in Beaumont Texas, to his parents Floyd Wesley Stark and Mildred Flowers Stark. He was a retired Oilfield worker for Stanley Well Services of Liberty and was a U.S. Marine veteran. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Douglas Ray Starke, and sisters Jimmie Marie Vincient, Thelma Jean Desmeaux, and Lillie Ann Woods. Survivors are his wife Margie McShan Stark of Daisetta, sons Wayne Stark and wife Rachel of Hardin, Steve Stark of Beaumont, and Jeff Stark and wife Devona of Watson Louisiana. Grandchildren Cheyenne Moore, Dustin Moore, Robyn Stark, Colton Stark, Allie Stark. A service of committal with military honors will be held Tuesday November 8, 2011 at 12:30 P.M. at the Houston National cemetery 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive Houston Texas 77038.

Wilson

Allie Susan Wilson, 95, of Hull, died on Tuesday, November 1, 2011. She was an avid gardener and she loved to fish. She enjoyed spending her time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph W. Wilson; daughter, JoAnn Bromley; daughter-in-law, Anna Wilson.

She is survived by her children, Jerry Wilson of Hull, Helen Michael and husband Tom of Moss Hill; grandchildren, Ben Belton, Debbie Dean, Theresa Babin, Donna Loper and husband Junior, Ron Bromley, Jr., Lesley Ann DuBois and husband Roy, Susan Harell, Jerri Lynn Cormier and husband Carl, John Cook and wife Carmell, Joseph Cook and wife April, Jerry Cook and wife Janeth, Robert Cook and wife Mally and Julie Ann Cook; 23 great grandchildren; 6 great great grandchildren.

Her family will receive friends at Faith and Family Funeral Services on Friday November 4, 2011 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. A service of remembrance will be held at the Faith and Family Funeral Service Chapel on Saturday November 5, 2011 at 2:00 p.m., officiated by Reverend Allen Owens. Burial will follow at Moss Hill cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be John Cook, Drew DuBois, Rob Cook, Josh Cook, Jerry Cook and Joe Cook.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Faith and Family Funeral Services, 40847 HWY 105 E., Batson, Texas 77519, (936) 262-2100 or (936) 336-2222.

Walker

Alta Opheila Walker was 87 years old when she died Sunday, October 30, 2011 at her residence in Cleveland, Texas.

She was born July 02, 1924 in Denson Spring, Anderson County, Texas to parents, Alton and Lula Isaacks who preceded her in death along with her loving husband of 57 years, Curtis Walker; brothers, Luby Isaacks, Adam Isaacks, Clint Isaacks, and Mayes Isaacks; sisters, Nannie Webb and Ester Isaacks.

Opheila was a member of Crossroads Baptist Church and one of God’s most loyal servants. She was a homemaker, and enjoyed spending time with her family and especially her grandchildren. The light in their eyes brought such happiness. She will be sorely missed by all who knew her and will remain in the hearts of all those who loved and cherished her.

The family will welcome family and friends for visitation Tuesday, November 01, 2011, 5:00-9:00 p.m. at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home, Cleveland, Texas. Bro. Daemon Beeman will preside over funeral services being held 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 02, 2011 at Crossroads Baptist Church, Cleveland, Texas with interment following at Morgan cemetery. Pallbearers include Paul Acosta, Aaron Montesnieto, Jesus Mendez, Eric McHugh, Robert Gomez, and Randy Lock; honorary pallbearers include, Andrew Isaacks, Charles Isaacks, Pete Isaacks, Jackie Isaacks, and Victor Isaacks.

She was a devoted mother to her daughters, Cennie Gomez, Gloria Acosta, and Paula Pescina; her grandchildren, Michelle Spears, Paul Acosta and wife, Jessica, Erika Montesnieto and husband Aaron, Robert Gomez; great-grandchildren, April Spears, Patrick Spears, Lexie Montesnieto, Stacie Montesnieto, Alex Rodriguez, Destiny Rodriguez, and Garrett Acosta; great-great-grandchildren, Kane Miles, Matthew Miles, and Layla Miles; sister, Eva McDaniel; sisters-in-law, Betty Smith and Lillie Copley; son-in-law, Gilberto Acosta; grandson-in-law, Sidney Spears; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other cherished family members and faithful friends. Also, the family would like to express their appreciation for flower arrangements provided courtesy of Betty Dowden of Flower World in Conroe, Texas.

Hanes

Sandra Lee “Sandy” Merghetti Hanes, 77, of Dayton, died Sunday, October 30, 2011 at her residence with family by her side.

Memorial services will be held at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, November 3, 2011, at the Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel. Services are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.

Sandy was born February 18, 1934 in Danville, IL, was a former resident of Arizona, and has resided in the Dayton area for the past six years. She was a graduate of the Danville High School, attended the University of Illinois, was a retired office manager in the travel industry, and a member of the American Contract Bridge Club. She also enjoyed playing bridge, reading, and counter cross-stitch.

Mrs. Hanes was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her son: Scott Hanes and wife Debbie of Naperville, IL, daughter: Lori Hanes of Dayton, three grandchildren: Jeff, Julie, and Alex Hanes of Naperville, IL, and numerous other relatives, and friends.

Soliday

Charles “Chas” Thomas Soliday, 49, of Dayton, died Wednesday, October 26, 2011.

He was born June 12, 1962 in Connellsville, PA to parents Charles H. Soliday and Janice Kimsey Soliday. He graduated from Connellsville Area High School in 1980 and later moved to Channelview. Chas had lived in the Dayton area since 1988 and was an employee of Anheuser-Busch in Houston where he work as a production supervisor.

He enjoyed reading, video games, motorcycles and entertaining as he was always the life of the party. He was a member of the Harley Owner’s Group

Services for Chas will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, October 29, 2011 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow at Palms Memorial Park cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00 to 9:00 p.m., Friday evening at the funeral home.

Mr. Soliday was preceded in death by his mother, Janice Soliday. He is survived by his wife of 30 years: Melinda L. Soliday of Dayton; sons: Charles W. Soliday and wife Jaci of Florida and Jesse T. Soliday and wife Wendy Powlison of Dayton; grandchildren: Charles R. Soliday and Gabrielle P. Soliday of Florida; father: Charles H. Soliday of Pennsylvania; sister: Lisa Soliday of Pennsylvania; brothers: Scott Soliday and wife Sandy of Pennsylvania and Timothy Soliday and wife Liz of Pennsylvania; brother-in-law: Donnie Matthews and wife Teri of Minnesota; sister-in-law: Missy Matthews of Minnesota; also numerous other relatives and friends.

Peterson

Maxine Louise Peterson, age 79, passed away Saturday October 15, 2011 in Liberty, Texas.

Maxine was born in Muskegon, Michigan, December 19, 1931. She will be remembered for her generosity, always giving to a charity or organization. She worked for many years for Huffman ISD at Hargraves High School in the lunch room. She was a devoted member of St. Anne’s Church in Dayton.

She was preceded in death by her husband Clifford Peterson and her longtime companion Gary Baldwin. She was also preceded by her favorite K-9 friend Sandy.

She leaves her longtime devoted friends, Mary Logan of Dayton and Raymond Harold of Dayton. In addition she leaves numerous friends from the East Gate Dayton Area.

Cremation services were held by Allison Funeral Service, 1101 N. Travis Liberty, Texas.

Gardzina

John Edward Gardzina, age 62, died Wednesday, October 26, 2011 in Liberty, Texas.

John was born March 3, 1949 in Fort Dix, New Jersey the son of Edward John Gardzina and Margaret Lyons Gardzina. John had a calming effect on people. He had been in retail most of his career before starting into financial planning. He always believed the mantra of, the “customer is always right.” He was a Mr. Fix-it always tinkering with something. John was very laid back and quirky in his sense of humor. John and his family moved to Liberty in 1981, when he became the store manager for the Liberty K-Mart.

He was preceded in death by his father Edward John Gardzina.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his beloved wife of forty-two years, Margaret Connolly Gardzina of Liberty, son Joe Gardzina and his wife Victoria of Pearland, Texas, daughter Anne Bartlett and her husband Wenzel of Angleton, Texas, sister Sandra Lowis and her husband Danny of Waverly Hall, GA, mother Margaret Gardzina of Waverly Hall, GA. In addition he leaves his three cherished grandchildren Hannah Bartlett, Sarah Bartlett, and Will Gardzina.

A funeral mass will be celebrated 2PM Tuesday November 1, 2011 at Immaculate Conception Church Liberty, Texas with visitation to be held one hour prior at the church. Inurnment to immediately follow in Liberty Catholic cemetery.

Allison Funeral Service 1101 N. Travis Liberty, Texas has been entrusted with the arrangements.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the American Cancer Society or to a charity of one’s choice in memory of John.

Grant

Perry LeLouis Grant, age 47, died suddenly October 25, 2011 in Dayton.

Perry was born in Baytown, TX, January 14, 1964. Perry served in the US ARMY earning the rank of Sergeant, last working for Dragon as a machinist. He loved to spend time with his family and riding his motorcycle.

He was preceded in death by his mother Helen Savage.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife of eleven years, Sonja Grant of Dayton, his sons Timothy A. Grant, Daniel L. Havard, and Jason Thacker, daughters Helen M. McElhaney, Nancie S. Delerosa, and Angelica Holt, his sisters Sharon M. Sherman, Suzette Deluca, and Sammilyn Savage, his brothers and brother-in-laws, Gary Delucia, James Sherman, and Kenneth Grant. In addition he leaves his cherished grandchildren, Lilliana E. Thacker, Aliana M. Thacker, Layla D. Havard, Trenton R. Holt, Jasmine M. McElhaney, Josiphine K. McElhaney, Dalton J. Holt, and Tony Delerosa.

Visitation for Perry will be held Sunday, October 30, 2011 from 4-7PM at Allison Funeral Service, 1101 N. Travis Liberty, Texas. A graveside service will be held 10:30AM Monday October 31, 2011 in Houston National cemetery, Houston, Texas with full military honors.
