McFarland

Barbara McFarland, 68, of Dayton, died Wednesday, October 19, 2011 in the Woodlands after an extended illness.

She was born August 25, 1943 in Gore, Oklahoma to parents Sim and Mabel Moss Chandler. She had lived in the Dayton area for the past 10 years and previously lived in Channelview. Barbara enjoyed decorating, working in the yard and growing her flowers.

Services for Mrs. McFarland will be 2:00 p.m., Monday, October 24, 2011 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel, Dayton with Rev. Jon Stouffer officiating. Visitation will be 11:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m., Sunday at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Ryan cemetery.

Mrs. McFarland was preceded in death by her parents and is survived by her husband, Clifford “Cliff” Edwin McFarland of Dayton; sons: Shane Ortego of California and Dickie Ortego, Jr. of California; daughter: April Ortego of California; sisters: Cathy and Monica; special friends: Margaret, Brenda and Mark; also numerous other relatives and a host of friends.

Sowell

Shirley Ann Sowell, 79, of Dayto,n died October 18, 2011 in Houston, TX.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 20 at 10 A.M. the First Baptist Church in Dayton, TX. A gathering of family and friends will be held on Thursday, October 19 at Sterling Funeral Home, 602 N. Main, Dayton, TX 77535 from 5-8 P.M. Burial will be at Magnolia cemetery in Dayton.

Shirley was a homemaker. She enjoyed fishing and shopping but her greatest joy was spending time with her family especially her grandchildren and great grandchild.

Shirley is preceded in death by her husband, John Sowell; son, Kevin Sowell; sister, Nila Simmons and nephew, Bruce Webb.

She is survived by son, Chris Sowell and wife Karen; brother, Don Webb; grandchildren: Candice DeLeon and husband Charles, Kevin Scott Sowell and wife, Kimberly, Russell Sowell; great-grandson, Krispen Sowell, and niece Cheryl Boone.

Simmons

Nila Fay Webb Simmons, 82, of Dayton, died on Monday, October 17, 2011. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great- grandmother and sister.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, October 21, 2011 at First Baptist Church of Dayton under the direction of Sterling Funeral Home in Dayton. Interment will follow in Palms Memorial Park. A gathering of Nila’s family and friends will be from 5:00 P.M. to 8 P.M. on Thursday, October 20, 2011 at the funeral home.

Nila was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Simmons; daughter, Thelma Jones-Catalano; and nephews; Bruce Webb and Kevin Sowell. She was a home maker and worked for LISD in the Food Service Department. Nila loved fishing and going shopping with her sister, Shirley Sowell who followed her in death by one day.

Nila is survived by her daughters, Sheryl Gilbert and husband, Roy, Donna Waddell and husband, Sonny, Sherry Diab, Connie Jones and husband J. Arvelaez; grandchildren, Elizabeth Rushing and husband Ron, Tammy Taylor and husband, Stan, Rob Waddell and wife, Jennifer, Greg Gilbert and wife, Renee, Nathan Gilbert, Zach Diab, Chloe Diab; brother, Don Webb; and niece, Cheryl Boone and a host of other family and friends.

Fregia

Virgil Fregia, 88, of Cuero, died Monday, October 17, 2011. He was born on November 21, 1922 in Batson to the late John Asa and Mary Fregia. Virgil received the Good Conduct Medal after serving in the United States Coast Guard from 1941 to 1946. He was a carpenter and enjoyed many hobbies including fishing, hunting, dancing, and leather work.

He is survived by his daughters, Linda Rigby and husband, Gentry, of Shiner, Carol Pratka of Shiner, and Vikki Nixon of Livingston; special friend and companion, Betty Tomanek; grandchildren, Slade Rigby of Galveston, Kimberly Barrow of Nordheim, Kerry Fisher of Liberty, and Tom Nixon and Dalton Nixon of Conroe; great-grandchildren, Guy Alex Rigby of Corpus Christi, Lauren Barrow of Yorktown, Dillon Barrow of Nordheim, and Hayze Fisher, Holden Fisher, and Hayden Fisher, all of Hardin; and great-great-grandchild, Carter Fischer of Yorktown.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Larry Virgil Fregia; sisters, Josey Fregia Tanner, Lola Fregia Moore, and Myrtle Fregia; brothers, Otto Fregia, Dan Fregia, Walter Fregia, and Tom Fregia; and grandsons, Shane Rigby and Clint Rigby.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, October 20, 2011, 2 p.m., at First United Methodist Church in Shiner.

Memorial contributions may be made to Shiner First United Methodist Church Food Pantry.

Davis

Dorothy Louise Davis, age 89, of Cleveland, Texas, did, Sunday, October 16, 2011 in The Woodlands.

The family will welcome family and friends for visitation Wednesday, October 19, 2011, 5:00-9:00 p.m. at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home, Cleveland, Texas. Rev. Carl Williamson will preside over funeral services being held Thursday, October 20, 2011, 10:00 a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church, 816 N. Blair St., Cleveland, Texas with interment following at Montague cemetery. Honorary pallbearers include Ted Younger and Melvin Eason.

Mrs. Davis was born June 23, 1922 to parents, Omer Thomas and Ima Lola Collins who preceded her in death along with her husband, Jack A. Davis; and her daughter, Betty Lou Jones. She was a homemaker and loved spending time with family and friends. She will be greatly missed and will remain in the hearts of all those who loved and cherished her.

Survivors include her daughter, Ruthie Mae Chapman; sons, Thomas Davis, Alvin R. Davis and wife, Deb, Erwin D. Davis, Melvin E. Davis and wife, Anne, Charles A. Davis and wife, Christine; sister, Mary Helen Eason and husband, Melvin; countless grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other cherished family members and faithful friends throughout the years.

Harrison

Joyce Laverne Harrison, age 77, of Cleveland, Texas, passed away Sunday, October 16, 2011.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, October 18, 2011, 5:00-9:00 p.m. at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home, Cleveland, Texas. Graveside services will be held Wednesday, October 19, 2011, 2:00 p.m. at Holly Grove cemetery Segno, Texas. Pallbearers include Danny Harrison, Ronnie Harrison, Michael Harrison, Jerry Harrison, Chris Harrison, and Titus Harrison.

Mrs. Harrison was born May 23, 1934 in Sour Lake, Texas to parents Lee and Bessie Hendrix who preceded her in death along with her husband, Charles Harrison; and son, Charles Dale Harrison. She was a homemaker, high school graduate, and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She will be greatly missed and will remain in the hearts of all those who loved and cherished her.

Survivors include her sons, Danny Joe Harrison, Terry Lee Harrison, Michael Jay Harrison, Ronnie Lynn Harrison; sister, Robbie; grandchildren, Dhewayne Harrison, Chris Harrison, Hidie Harrison, Titus Harrison, Courtney Harrison, Charles Michael Harrison, and Danny Harrison; Erin Harrison, Morgan Harrison, Jordan Harrison, Trent Handley, Peyton McDaniel, Dawn Barnes; special friend, Josephine Bell; numerous nieces, nephews and other cherished family members and treasured friends.

Lyons

Lloyd C. Lyons Sr., 61, of Double Bayou, died Oct. 16, 2011.

Visitation will be Saturday, Oct. 22, 2011 from 11AM until Funeral 1PM at St. Paul United Methodist Church, 338 Church Rd. Double Bayou, TX. Pastor Mary Shotlow. Interment in Martha Godfrey cemetery.

Mourning his departure yet cherishing his memories. Children: Lloyd C. Lyons Jr. (Yvonne), Carisa Baldwin (Louis), Tim Lyons (Kim) and Cerida Stump (Anthony Rivon). 11- Grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

Sellers

David Louis Sellers, 60, of Saratoga, died Saturday October 15, 2011.

He was born in Chicago IL on September 30, 1951 to Mollie and David Sellers, Sr. He was a tool-pusher for Shivers Well Service for many years. He was an avid 42 player. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Josey Elizabeth Sellers of Saratoga; children, are Blake Sellers and wife Brandy of Honey Island, Chris Sellers of Saratoga, Michelle Holden and husband Jason of Many, LA; grandchildren are Brennan Sellers and Baylin Sellers of Saratoga, Jason Holden of Many, LA; cousin, Connie West of Houston.

His family will receive friends on Tuesday October 18, 2011 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Faith & Family Funeral Services Chapel. A service of remembrance will be held Wednesday October 19, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at Faith & Family Funeral Services Chapel, officiated by Reverend Lee Gruver. Interment will follow at Guedry cemetery in Batson.

Serving as pallbearers will be Arvel Chandler, Curtis Hortman, Arthur Fregia, Zack Crow, Jason Crow and Nathan Crow. Honorary pallbearers are Mel Heckler, Tom Warner, and Albert Nugent.

Brown

Darrell Wayne Brown, 76, of Dayton, died Saturday, October 15, 2011 in College Station, Texas. He was born September 18, 1935 in Baytown, Texas to parents RC and Genevieve Stoesser Brown.

Darrell grew up in Dayton, Texas were he played numerous sports, lettering in Baseball and Football as a member of the class 1953. He graduated from Texas A&M College in 1957 and obtained his Masters in Agriculture in 1960. While at A&M he played football under Bear Bryant and was one of the Junction Boys. He was a County Agent for several years, then returned to Dayton to farm with his brothers. He was an avid gardner and a member of the American Rice Growers Association since 1968. Darrell was a member of First Baptist Church Dayton where he was a Deacon and a Sunday School teacher.

Services for Mr. Brown will be 10:00 a.m., October 18, 2011 at First Baptist Church with Rev. Dale Hill officiating. Interment will follow at Magnolia Park cemetery under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home, Dayton. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Monday, October 17, 2011 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home, Dayton.

Darrell was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Roger Brown and Bernie Brown He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Betty Gaskill Brown of Dayton; daughter: Brenda Lueders and husband David of Denver, Colorado; sons: Barry Brown and wife Dachelle of Huffman, Bryant Brown and wife Vonda Kay of San Antonio; his grandchildren: Meghan, Matt, and Mitchell Lueders, Carri, Casey and Christy Brown, and Andy and Avery Brown; his brothers: Gene Brown and wife Mary of Dayton and Don Brown and wife Nancy of Dayton; his brother-in-law: Richard Gaskill and wife Diane of Pensacola, Florida; also numerous other relatives and friends.

Nugent

Shirley Ann Nugent, 62, of Hardin, TX, died Friday October 14, 2011 at her residence in Hardin.

A service of remembrance will be held Monday October 17, 2011 at 10:00A.M. at Faith & Family Funeral Services of Batson with Reverend V.R. Hilton officiating.

Interment will follow at the Hardin Chapel cemetery in Hardin.

The family will be receiving friends on Sunday October 16, 2011 from 5:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. also at Faith & Family.

Pallbearers are Terry King, Donnie Warren, Houston Smith, Raymond King, Jessie Caple, Justin Hendricks.

Honorary Pallbearers are Eugene LeBlanc, Robbie Roach, Howard Nugent, Jackie Nugent, Ronald Smith, Julian Jannise.

Shirley was born March 16, 1949 in Channelview Texas, to parents Lubie Warren and Julia Faye Willis and had lived in Hardin for fifteen years and was an homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Bobbie Onken and granddaughter Ashley Nugent. Survivors are her husband Darvin Leon Nugent of Hardin, father and mother in-law Eugene and Lizzie LeBlanc of Hardin. Daughters are Dorothy King and husband Terry of Hull, Theresa Smith and husband Ron of Crossplains Texas, Chenelle Warren and husband Donnie of Hardin, and Sherry Broussard and companion Julian of Liberty. Sisters are Hazel Stein of Rye, Martha Warren of Zavalla, Ivy Armstrong of Huntington and Sara Beth Spencer of Missouri. Grandchildren eight and Great grandchildren six.

Texania Williams Young, 68, of Cleveland, died Thursday, October 13, 2011 in Cleveland. She was born April 16, 1943 in Romayor, Texas to parents Oliver Williams, Sr. and Erma Lee Cole Williams.

Services for Mrs. Young will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, October 22, 2011 at Little Flock Baptist Church with Rev. L. D. Allen officiating.

Interment to follow at Dolen cemetery in Dolen under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home, Cleveland.

Visitation for Mrs. Young will be 5:00 to 9:00 p.m., Friday, October 21, 2011 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home.

Beard

J. W. Beard, 72, of Shepherd, died Friday, October 14, 2011 in Humble.

He was born August 3, 1939 in Garrison, Texas to parents Grady Day Beard and Susie Bell Rape Beard.

Services for Mr. Beard will be 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 18, 2011 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel in Cleveland with Bro. Carl Williamson officiating. Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. until service time on Tuesday. Interment will follow at Farley Chapel in Shepherd.

Mr. Beard is survived by daughters: Tammy Jean Beard and Jerri Renee Davis; sisters: Margret Bradley of Rock, Kansas, Mary Smith of Danbury, Texas, & Alice Beard of Conroe, Texas; brothers: Henry Beard and wife Sandy of Holly, Michigan, Edgar L. Andrews

Charles “Charlie” Ray Andrews, age 62, of Cleveland, Texas, died Sunday, October 09, 2011 at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.

The family will welcome family and friends for visitation Tuesday, October 11, 2011, 5:00-9:00 p.m. at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home, Cleveland, Texas. Pastor Bob White will preside over funeral services being held Wednesday, October 12, 2011, 2:00 p.m. at Pace-Stancil Chapel, Cleveland, Texas with interment immediately following at Pace-Stancil Memorial Rest Gardens.

Charlie was born in Longview, Texas on July 19, 1949 to parents, Hansen Cornelius Andrews and Georgia Rosene Bailey Andrews. He was a Bridge Foreman for the railroad; and a member of the Liberty Christian Fellowship Church. He found great joy in cooking; family gatherings were made tastier with Charlie’s BBQ. When Charlie cooked, it turned out to be so much he called in his church family. When he wasn’t cooking he was playing magic tricks for his family and friends; during Christmas time he was the official Santa Clause for his grandchildren and loved every minute of it. He also had an art for wood working. He enjoyed making beautiful and meaningful plaques for his family and friends. His family was the light of his life; he will be remembered lovingly.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Charlotte Gay Whitener-Andrews; children, Charlie Andrews and wife, LaQuisha, Melissa Andrews Guy, Jay McClain, Allison McCowan and husband, Travis, Nancy McClain; Andy McClain and wife, Kristin; Caren Dodd; sisters, Connie Spann, Debbie Snyder and husband, Jimmy; brother, Ricky Andrews and wife, Gladys; grandchildren, Taylor Andrews, Adam Guy, Bryce Guy, Forest Andrews, Baleigh Andrews, Victoria McClain, Camden Gates, Andrew McClain, Jack McCowan, Ryan Dodd, Rachel Dodd, and Garret Dodd; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other treasured family members and faithful friends.

McCreight

Marshall M. “Marty” McCreight, 78, of Batson, died on Sunday October 9, 2011.

He was member of the Batson First Baptist Church. He enjoyed hunting and dancing. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is preceded in death by his wife Helen Compton McCreight; parents, P.W. and Bessie Boothe McCreight; brothers, Carl McCreight and Mays McCreight; sister O.D. Allen; half sisters, Mertle Camp and Hadie Camp.

He is survived by his sons, Stan McCreight and wife Penny of Briton, Michigan and Rex McCeight and fiancee Priscilla Spaulding of Moss Hill; grandchildren, Dawn Shaw and husband Cody of Houston; Amber McCreight of Briton, Michigan; Marshall Theodore McCreight of Austin, Luke McCreight of Austin; companion, Connie Hart Bennett of Batson; life-long friend, Herman Johnson.

His family will receive friends at Faith and Family Funeral Service Chapel on Wednesday October 12, 2011 from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Thursday October 13, 2011 from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. A graveside service is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. Thursday October 13, 2011 at Moss Hill cemetery, officiated by Reverend Tolbert Hudspeth.

Serving as pallbearers will be Stan McCreight, Rex McCreight, Butch Hart, Bobby Allen, Toby Allen and Herman Johnson. Honoraray pallbearers are Marshall Theodore McCreight, Luke McCreight, Tommy Bennett and Curtis Hart.
