Cheryl Lynn "Cherry" Hill, 56, of Baytown, died Friday August 5, 2011 at The Methodist Hospital of Houston.

A native of Glendale California she had lived in Orange California, before moving to Baytown where she lived for ten years.

She was preceded in death by her parents Scott Lawrence Hill and Clara Wilma Fisher. Brothers Phillip and Michael Hill.

Cheryl is survived by her sisters Joyce Johnson and husband Johnny of Daisetta, Donna Bernbrock of Anahiem California, nephews Scott Johnson of Hull TX, William "Bill" Bernbrock of Baytown. Niece's Shiela Johnson of Baytown, Linda Murphy and husband Mark of Baytown, Carolyn Collins of Marshall TX, Susan Stevens of Oregon, Debbie Bernbrock of Australia.

A service of remembrance will be held Tuesday August 9, 2011 at 10:00 A.M. at Central Baptist Church of Daisetta with Reverend Harry McDaniel and Jim VanDorn officiating. The family will be receiving friends on Monday August 8, 2011 from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. also at Central Baptist Church of Daisetta. Serving as Pallbearers are Derrick Johnson, Michael Collins, Jeremy Johnson, Jeremy Bozeman, Mark Murphy, Andrew Johnson, and Scott Johnson. Cremation under the care of Faith & Family Funeral Services of Batson.

Holder

Elizabeth E. “Libby” Smith Holder, 50, of Huffman, died Wednesday, August 3, 2011, at the Memorial Hermann NE Hospital in Humble.

Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m., Monday, August 8, 2011, at the Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel in Dayton. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday, at the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.

Libby was born December 24, 1960 in Pasadena, to parents; Leslie Joseph Smith and Ellen McMahan, and has resided in the Huffman area throughout her life.

She was a graduate of the C. E. King High School and Sanford-Brown College, employed as a medical billing clerk, member of the First Baptist Church of Huffman, and enjoyed, singing, dancing, flowers, and crafts.

Mrs. Holder was preceded in death by her husband: Lionel Holder, father: Leslie J. Smith, and sister: Rena Maher. She is survived by daughters: Amanda Ashworth and husband Paul of Crosby, Jeanie Johnson of Huffman, and Stormie Dotson of Huffman, son: Zach Johnson of Huffman, mother: Ellen McMahan Whitcomb of Dayton, sister: Kellie Johnson and husband Brad of Huffman, grandchildren: Brent, Nathan, Christian, and Kinlee, and numerous other relatives, and friends.

Caruthers

Otis Carlton Caruthers, 47, of Batson, died on Tuesday August 2, 2011.

He loved his family and spending time with his grandchildren. He attended the United Pentecostal Church of Batson. Music was in his blood. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Elton Caruthers.

He is survived by his loving wife, Leona Caruthers of Batson; mother, Genevieve Caruthers of Batson; children, T.C. Caruthers and Sara of Batson, Ashley Caruthers and Sidney of Batson, Kyle Bailey of Liberty; brothers, Charlie Caruthers and wife Joan of Batson, Jump Caruthers and wife Tammy of Saratoga, Al Johnson of Batson, sisters, Charlotte Price and husband Ron of Batson, Rita Johnson of Batson, Janet Moor and husband Herman of Liberty, Tammy Blaylock and husband J.W. of Batson; grandchildren, Rhiannon, Lauren, Bonnie Jewel, Olivia Grace, Aiden, Kamilla Belle all of Batson; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

His family will receive friends at the United Pentecostal Church of Batson Thursday August 4, 2011 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. A service of remembrance will be held at the United Pentecostal Church of Batson on Friday August 5, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. officiated by Reverend Richard Motes and Reverend Talbert Huespeth. Burial will follow at Guedry cemetery of Batson.

Serving as pallbearers will be T.C. Caruthers, Sidney Taylor, Jerime Johnson, Tyler Caruthers, James Poland and Ronnie Rountree.

Morgan

Thelma Cole Morgan, 93, a former resident of Dayton and Baytown, Texas, died Tuesday, July 26, in Sacramento, California.

Born on February 16, 1918, in Tarkington Prairie, Texas, to Jacob Caswell Cole and Rosa Dobbs Cole, Thelma graduated from Dayton High School in 1936 as the class valedictorian. She attended Lee College and worked as a bookkeeper and purchasing clerk At Culpepper Furniture Company in Baytown and Precoat Metals in Channelview. At Precoat, she was honored for her lead in establishing the company’s first computer network for purchasing.

Thelma spent many hours researching the genealogy of the Cole family and Schlobohm families and was instrumental in winning the designation of a state historical cemetery for the Schlobohm family cemetery in Aldine, Texas, which was established by her great-grandfather, Johann Frederick Schlobolm, a veteran of the Texas Army that fought at the Battle of San Jacinto. She also was an avid gardener, bridge player and enjoyed traveling and visiting museums. Her family was the center of her life.

A member of Old River Baptist Church, Thelma also was a member of the Daughters of the Texas Republic and the San Jacinto Descendants.

Thelma is survived by her brother and sister-in law, Ray and Velma Cole of Crockett, Texas; a sister, Eloise Cole Johnson of Sweeney, Texas; her daughter, Darla Morgan of Austin, Texas; a grandson, Dwayne Klaus, of Austin, Texas; her niece, Keetha Mills of Sacramento, California; two former sons-in-law, Robert Ray Klaus of Baytown, Texas; and Jake Mills of Paris, Texas and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by sisters and brothers, Lila Cole Cashat, Margaret Cole Dugat, Ruth Cole Hopper, Mable Cole Northcutt, Albert Cole, Jake Cole, Ray Cole and Eloise Cole; her daughter, Kay Morgan Mills, and a son, Robbie Morgan.

A memorial service is scheduled on Friday, August 5, 2011, at 2 p.m. at Old River Baptist Church in Mont Belvieu, Texas under the direction of Sterling Funeral Home in Dayton.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Dayton Pioneer Club Scholarship Fund, c/o Diane Thayer, 36 Little John Lane, Dayton, TX 77535.

Hebert

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Mildred Hebert, 86, of Ames, Texas, on Wednesday, August 3, 2011 at Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church, at 10:00 A.M. with the Reverend Father George Okeahialam, M.S.P., as Celebrant with burial in Ames Catholic cemetery.

A native of Liberty, she was the second child of Julia and Norris Trahan. Mildred, loving known to family and friends as “Tang” attended Our Mother of Mercy Catholic School and graduated Liberty Training High School. She married the love of her life: Sidney Hebert on April 19, 1947. They were married 54 years. To this union was born two children. Tang’s work career began at Pucket’s Cleaners. She worked at Mercy Hospital and retired from Yeating Kersting Hospital. She died on Friday, July 29, 2011 at her residence. Visitation will be held at the church from 8 A.M. until time of service. The rosary will be said at 9 A.M.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother: Leslie “T-Man” Trahan, one sister Earline Mouton, and one grandchild Dale Hayes, Jr.

Mrs. Hebert leaves to cherish her memory her son: Lionel Hebert and his wife Vera and her daughter: Consuella Hayes and her husband Dale; two sisters: Augustine Thibodeaux and Celestine Garner; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

Malak

Graveside services were held Friday, July 22, at 10 A.M. in Palms Memorial Park in Dayton for Lucy Ethel Tilton Malak.

Lucy died Monday, July 18th in Baytown, TX. She was a lifelong resident of Old River, TX. Lucy was a loving and caring mother, a generous and thoughtful grandmother who was loved and appreciated by her family.

She was preceded in death by her loving and dedicated husband of twenty-two years, Stash Pete Malak; her parents, Addison and Georgia Tilton; brothers, Delma, Jep, Chris, Royce, John, Glen and Charles Tilton and her son, Rex Drake. Lucy is survived by her sons, Micheal Pete Malak, Larry Gunn, Roy Hues, Micah Lynn Drake, Jesse James Malak; daughters, Linda Kervin, Diana Hues, Brenda Gunn, Charol Malak. She is also survived her 12 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Doyle Kervin, Paul Tilton, Morgan Baker, Roy Hues, Jonathan Kervin and Neil Hardung.

Osborn

Lynn Osborn, 44, of Oak Island, died at UTMB Galveston on Sunday, July 10, 2011 after a long battle with cancer. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 AM Thursday, July 14, 2011 at Oak Island Baptist Church under the direction of Sterling Funeral Home in Anahuac. Interment will follow in Jackson cemetery in Double Bayou. A gathering of Lynn's family and friends was from 5:00 to 8:00 PM on Wednesday, July 13, 2011 at Sterling Funeral Home in Anahuac.

Lynn was preceded in death by her parents, Gerald and Margie Osborn. She loved fishing, spending time with her grandchildren and family. Lynn also loved living in Oak Island.

Lynn is survived by her husband, Michael Marsh; daughters, Amiee Marsh Fowler, Jessica Marsh and Anthony Adams Sr., Kristi Marsh and husband Bobby Olvera; son, William Michael Marsh; grandchildren, Anthony Wade Adams Jr., Cloey Denise Adams, Kyleigh Lynn Adams, Faith Elizabeth Marsh, Lane Matthew Butler; sisters, Shirley Smith, Jo Simon, Charolette Wagner, Janet Lott, Anita Hisler, Sandra McDaniel, Audrey Casey; brothers, Paul Chenall, and Johnny Chenall; mother-in-law, Mary and Bill Marsh; and a host of other family and friends.

Velazquez

Funeral Service for Hector Luis Velazquez, Sr., 46, of Liberty, will be held on Monday, August 1, 2011, at 9:00 A.M., at Wells Funeral Home with burial in Wells Memorial cemetery, Liberty.

A native of Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico, Hector was born August 18, 1964 to America Rosario and Julio Velazquz. Hector lived in the Liberty area for almost three years. He passed away on Wednesday, July 27, 2011. Vigil will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, July 30, 2011 from 8am until time of service on Monday.

He leaves to cherish his memory: her wife of fourteen years, Lisandra Rivera; his parents; two sons: Anthony Velazquez and Hector Velazquez, Jr.; five daughters: Heydee Velazquez, Karla Velazquez, Snadraly Velazquez, Amerycaly Velazquez, and Keysha M Jackson; one brother: Julio Velazquez; five grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

Lee

Elvie B. Lee passed away on July 27, at her residence in Dayton, TX. She was born in Napoleonville, LA and lived most of her life in Baton Rouge.

She excelled at sewing, cooking, gardening and keeping an immaculate house. She was a loving mother and, later in life, a devoted grandmother to Hanson and Smokey, the dog. Following the early and unexpected death of her husband Billy, Elvie moved the family back to Baton Rouge from Hartford, CT. In Baton Rouge, with her daughters now older, she resumed her work life outside the home at Coles Florist where she kept books and pitched in where she could for about thirty years. The staff of Coles became her extended family, and she valued and enjoyed these relationships greatly. Five years ago she moved to Dayton, where she enjoyed the security of being with family.

A gathering of family and friends will be held on Thursday, July 28 from 6 to 8 pm at Sterling Funeral Home, 602 N. Main, Dayton, TX. Visitation will be on Saturday, July 30 from 11 am to 1 pm Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government St., Baton Rouge, LA, followed by a graveside service at 1:30 pm at Roselawn Memorial Park, 4045 North St., Baton Rouge.

Elvie is preceded in death by her parents, George Blanchard and Julia Roubique Blanchard and her husband, Billy B. Lee.

She is survived by her daughters; Karen Lee Marshall (and husband, Jerry) and Ann Lee (and partner, Nan Stoops); grandson, Hanson Lee; as well as, the Marshall clan, who took her in as one of their own.

Bower

Alexander Von “Cotton” Bower, 90, of Dayton, passed away on Wednesday, July 27, 2011 of Alzheimer's at Heritage Villa in Dayton. He was a loving father, grandfather, and great- grandfather.

Cotton served his country during WWII as a radio mechanic and belly gunner in the 7th and 20th Army Air Corp.

A gathering of family and friends will be held at Sterling Funeral Home in Dayton from 6-8 P.M. on Friday, July 28, 2011 with a remembrance service held at 7 P.M.

Cotton is preceded in death by his parents, Tom Von Bower and Minnie Lee Letney Bower of Spurger, TX; wife, Dorothy Belle Lovett of Baytown; brother, Edmond Bower; sisters, Maggie Sawyer and Berdie Ratcliff.

He is survived by daughters; Susan Giberson and husband, Jeff of Dayton; Amy Murphy and husband, Ricky of Baytown; grandchildren, Jessica, Michael, Joshua, Christopher; great-grandchildren, Bree and his namesake, Alexander Shae. Many nieces, nephews, family and friends also survive him.

Gagné

Gaston Aloysius Gagné III died on Tuesday, July 26, 2011 at his residence. He was a loving father, husband, son, brother, grandfather, uncle, nephew and friend.

Gaston was preceded in death by his father, Gaston Aloysius Gagné, Jr. He is survived by his wife of twelve years, Elizabeth “Liz” Gagné; son, Gaston “Sonny” Gagné IV; mother, Tessie Gagné; sisters, Stephanie Gagné, Gina Brown (Roderick), and Bridgett Gagné; daughters, Leslie Myers and Robin Greeninger; nieces, Alexia Brown and Lauren Gonzales; nephew, Dalton Freeland; grandson, Hunter Myers; aunt, Belle Lemond and a host of other family and friends.

Gaston was a firefighter with the City of Baytown for seventeen years after serving his country in the US Navy. He was a Christian man who loved helping people. He enjoyed riding motorcycles, marital arts (Karate), and performing as a clown with Baytown’s clown program Beat Alley. He was a dedicated and active member of his community and impacted the lives of so many. Gaston’s life was marked by many acts of kindness and benevolence to those around him. He will be remembered for his good humor, adventurous spirit and ever helping hands.

A visitation will be held Saturday, July 30, 2011 from 9-11am with a rosary at 10:30am followed by a funeral mass at 11:00am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 3730 FM 160 N, Raywood, TX. Burial will follow at Raywood cemetery and a repast at the church hall.

Mayes

Juanita Tatman Mayes “Bobbie” to her family died on Monday, July 25, 2011 at Remington Park in Baytown.

Juanita was born on July 20, 1915 in Memphis, Tennessee to Olivia and R. D. Tatman. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother.

Graveside services will be at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at Wallisville cemetery in Wallisville, Texas under the direction Sterling Funeral Home in Dayton.

Juanita attended grade school in Orange, TX and moved to Beaumont, where she attended Beaumont High School and was a member of the National Honor Society. She went on to Lamar State College of Technology now Lamar University and was the first Cheerleader there. After completing her years there she went to the University of Texas and became a member of the national sorority Zeta Alpha in Austin, TX. While she was at Lamar, she met a guy named Josh B. Mayes. He seemed to occupy her thoughts more and more so it ended with her leaving the University of Texas to marry him. He was the true love of her life. They had 2 children, Glen and Patti of who survive her, along with 4 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.

The family wishes to thank Remington Park for 8 years of fun and tender loving care; they also want to thank Faith Hospice and some special ladies.

Pavey

Dale Lee Pavey, beloved husband, father and grandfather born on July 22, 1974 in Muncie, Indiana to Phillip A. Pavey and Deborah K. Holloway died on July 20, 2011 at the age of thirty-seven.

Dale is survived by his loving wife of nineteen years, Melissa, of Raywood, Texas; his sons Jason Perkins of Jacksonville, Texas and Tony Perkins of Milton, Florida, his brother Randy Pavey and sister-in-law Laura Chapa Pavey; aunts and uncles, Rose and James Bendo, Nala and Glendon Frazer, Bryan Holloway, Brenda and Nick Jackson; granddaughters, Eliana, Briana and Elissa Perkins; nieces, Sky and Katelyn Pitts and nephews Jimmy and Hunter Barton and many other relatives and friends.

Dale is preceded in death by his grandmother Betty Evans; his mother Deborah Pavey; brother, Danny Pavey and his uncle Milton Dale Holloway Jr.

Dale will be sorely missed by the family and friends who loved him and from which he was taken to soon. A memorial service and celebration of his life is planned for a future date. I am proud to be your wife and will love you always.
