Skaggs

Ann Lynette Skaggs, 67, of Liberty, died Sunday, April 10, 2011 in Houston, Texas.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 13, 2011 from 5pm until 8 pm. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 14, 2011 at 2pm at the Allison Funeral Service Chapel with interment to follow in Fairlawn cemetery with Reverend Harry Laxton officiating.

Ann was born on January 7, 1944 to parents Carl Bracewell Sr. and Elora Norris Bracewell in Liberty, Texas. She attended Liberty High School. She enjoyed bowling and operated the Liberty Bowling Lanes. Mrs. Skaggs was the President of the Board of the Liberty Seniors Center. She worked as a bookkeeper for several years for Liberty-Dayton Chrysler Dodge. She attended church regularly. She loved children and many called her Mom, even those that weren’t her children.

She is preceded in death by her parents, a sister; Maxine Bracewell, four brothers; Gene, Leroy, Vernon and David Bracewell. Mrs. Skaggs is survived by her husband David R. Skaggs, four daughters; Debra Tenorio, Darlenea Shofner, Tammy Heger and Kathy Hubbard, two sons, Buster Mallory and Jerry “Tinker” Landers Jr., three brothers; Carl, John and Buddy Bracewell, three sisters; Louise Quimby, Dorothy Nugent, and Carolyn Maddox, sixteen grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Allison Funeral Service, 1101 N. Travis St., Liberty, Texas.

Jeoffroy

Verna Lane Jeoffroy, 67, of Anahuac, died with her family by her side at Methodist Hospital in Houston on Friday, April 8, 201

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister.

Gravesde services will be at 3:00 PM on Sunday, April 10, 2011 in Anahuac cemetery under the direction of Sterling Funeral Home in Anahuac.

Verna was preceded in death by her parents, Oras and Melva Ortego Sr. and brother, Sidney Ortego. She worked in the accounting department for Security State Bank in Anahuac for many years.

Mrs. Jeoffroy is survived by her husband, David Jeoffroy; daughter, Edie Wood and husband, Keith; brother Oras Ortego Jr. and wife Donna; grandchildren, Beth, Allie, Katy and David Wood; nieces, Gina Kelly, Rachel Ortego; nephews, Charles Kelly, Wade Ortego and a host of other family and friends.

Dinsmore

Billy Jack “Bill” Dinsmore, 77, of Crosby died Monday, April 11, 2011 in Baytown.

He was born February 3, 1934 in Georgetown, Texas to parents Ned and Barbara Hopkins Dinsmore. A previous resident of Anahuac and Dayton, Bill had lived in Crosby for the past ten years. He served in the US Navy, founded the first rodeo in Hawaii and was a bull rider. He retired as a superintendent from Brown and Root and enjoyed fishing, hunting, motorcycles, rodeos, and western shows.

Services for Mr. Dinsmore will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, April 14, 2011 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel, Dayton with interment to follow at Palms Memorial Park cemetery.

Visitation will be 5:00 to 9:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 13, 2011 at the funeral home.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his son: Delbert A. Dinsmore, grandson: Billy Joe Dinsmore, sister: Betty Donaldson, sister-in-law: Larhonda Russell Lusk, and brother-in-law: Doug Arber. He is survived by his sons: Bill Dinsmore, and wife Gay of Kenefick, and Joe W. Dinsmore and wife Janet of Crosby; grandchildren: Leeann Dinsmore, Aaron Dinsmore, Lacy Dinsmore, Daniel Dinsmore, Brandon Dinsmore, Brandi Dinsmore Thompson & husband Dirk, and Erica Jo Dinsmore; 5 ˝ great-grandchildren; brother: Darryl Lusk and wife Beverly of Highlands, and Johnny Lusk of Baytown and sister: Barbara D. Arber of California; also numerous other relatives and friends.

Marietta Willis

Marietta Willis, 103, of Liberty, died, April 10, 2011.

She was born November 27, 1907 in Spring, TX to Hie and Lulu Traylor Little.

Marietta is preceded in death by her loving husband of 55 years George Willis; 2 brothers, Son Little, Alvin Little; 1 sister, Jettie Pearl Little; 1 son-in-law, R.H. Perry. Marietta is survived by her loving daughter Mary Katherine Perry; 4 grandchildren, Jerry Perry and wife Cathy, Kathy Richardson and husband David, Kris Peck and husband James, Jimmy Perry; 4 great-grandchildren, Jerry Perry Jr. and wife Nora, Angie Martin and husband Phillip, Jay Starks, Nicki Starks; 5 great-great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

A celebration of life will be 3:00 pm Wednesday, April 13, 2011 at Brookside Funeral Home, visitation will be 1 hr. prior to the service. Interment will follow at Brookside Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Jerry Perry Jr., Jay Starks, James Peck, David Richardson, Paul Laverty Jr., Dr. Steve Williams.

Mathis

Funeral Services for Victor Mathis, 50, of Dayton, are pending at Wells Funeral Service, Liberty.

He passed away on Saturday, April 9, 2011 at Liberty-Dayton Regional Medical Center.

Griffith

Larry Joe Griffith, 64, of Navasota, died Thursday, April 7, 2011, at his residence.

Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 12, 2011, at the Pace-Stancil Funeral Home with burial following at a later date. Services are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.

Larry was born April 9, 1946 in Dayton, to parents; Milo, Sr. and Elsie Green Griffith, and a longtime resident of Navasota. He was a graduate of the Barbers Hill High School, veteran of the US Army, a retired guard for the TDCJ in Huntsville, and was Methodist by faith. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, gardening, horses, hunting, and fishing.

Mr. Griffith was preceded in death by his parents, grandson: Jacob M. Farabee, and sister: Della Griffith Abke. He is survived by his daughter: Jo Farabee and husband Mike of Liberty, son: Lloyd Alan Griffith of Liberty, grandchildren: Megan Nicole Farabee and Mikaela Jo Farabee, brothers: Milo Griffith, Jr. and wife Elaine of Dayton and Melvin Griffith and wife Barbara of Ames, sister: Merle Morris and husband Frank of Dayton, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

McMurtry

Lawrence B. McMurtry, Jr., 58, of Hardin, died Thursday, April 7, 2011, at his residence.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, April 11, 2011, at the Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel with burial following at the Hardin Chapel cemetery in Hardin. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., Sunday, at the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.

Lawrence was born September 30, 1952 in Liberty, to parents; Lawrence B. McMurtry, Sr. and Pat D. Meadows, and has resided in the Hardin area throughout his life. He was a graduate of the Hardin High School class of 1971, a pipefitter and welder by trade, member of the Millwrights Local Union, and considered a jack of all trades, but master of none. He also enjoyed tinkering, wood working, working on old cars, and cooking.

Mr. McMurtry was preceded in death by his father: Lawrence B. McMurtry, Sr., stepfather: B. W. Sims, and wife: Regina Barnhart McMurtry. He is survived by his daughter: Nicole D. Marino and husband Daniel of Houston, sons: James S. “Sam” McMurtry of Nacogdoches and Justin M. “Matt” McMurtry of Nacogdoches, grandchildren: Nathaniel and Mason Marino, and Kaylin, Justin, and Canen McMurtry, mother: Pat Meadows McMurtry Sims of Liberty, stepmother: Ruth Martin of Summerville, brothers: Johnye McMurtry and wife Fran of Batson and Barry Sims and wife Mitzie of Liberty, sisters: Thyra R. Nance and husband Wendell of Hull, Tommye Sims of Liberty, Terrye Skaines of Liberty, and Ruby Wolf and husband Robert of New Waverly, and numerous aunts, uncles, other relatives, and friends.

Jett

Wilda Marie Chambliss Jett died peacefully April 8, 2011, in Liberty, Texas.

Wilda was born October 23, 1918 in Liberty, Texas the daughter of the late Robert W. Chambliss and Rachel Abshier Chambliss. She was a graduate of Liberty High School, class of 1936, and later received her Bachelor’s degree from Baylor University, where she was a member of the Kappa Delta Pi Society. Wilda was a gifted teacher and her students of twenty-three years are a living testimony to her dedication and love for teaching. In her spare time Wilda enjoyed traveling and stitchery, and was an avid collector of rocks, shells, clowns, and angels. She also was an avid gardener. She was active in First Baptist Church of Liberty, and various women’s organizations in the church and the Liberty community.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Robert Chambliss, and her devoted husband of sixty years, James Daniel Jett. She leaves behind to cherish her memory, a daughter Judith Lynn Jett King of Weaverville, NC., sisters Kathleen Waldrop and Dorothy Crutchfield, grandson Eustace Eugene King V, and two great grandsons, Alex King and Ben King. In addition she leaves numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Visitation will be held Sunday, April 10, 2011 from 5-7PM at Allison Funeral Service, 1101 N. Travis, Liberty, Texas.

A Funeral Service will be held 2PM Monday, April 11, 2011 at First Baptist Church in Liberty, burial to follow in Fairlawn cemetery.

The family would like to thank the caring and dedicated staff at Liberty Health Care for their support and loving attention to Wilda.

Fleming

Ella Pauline Fleming, 93, of Dayton, died on Saturday April 2, 2011 at Magnolia Place Heath Care in Liberty. She was a loving grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great grandmother.

Graveside services will be at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, April 5, 2011 at Magnolia Memorial Park in Dayton under the direction of Sterling Funeral Home in Dayton. A gathering of Pauline's family and friends will be from 5:00 to 8:00 PM on Monday at the funeral home.

Pauline was preceded in death by her husband, Ernie Fleming Sr.; daughter, Juanita Farris; sons, Maynard Fleming and Ernie Fleming Jr.; two brothers and three sisters; and one granddaughter. She was the former owner of "The Railroad Bar".

Pauline is survived by her grandchildren, Bobby Fleming and wife Theresa, Johnny Craig and wife Vicky, Lee Craig, Judy William and husband Terry, David Fleming, Robin Fleming; great grandchildren, Amber, Cole B., Ashley, Brian, Alisha, Jonathon, Shannon, Brandon, Kelsey; and seven great-great grandchildren.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Magnolia Place Heath Care.

Teller

Glenn F. Teller, 77, of Dayton, died Sunday, April 3, 2011, at his residence.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, April 8, 2011, at the Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel with graveside services at 2:00 p.m., Friday, at the Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Beaumont. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., Thursday, at the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.

Glenn was born September 21, 1933 in Port Arthur, to parents; Raymond C. and Mable Lemaire Teller, a former resident of League City, and has resided in the Dayton area for the past 30 years. He was a graduate of St. Anne’s Catholic School, attended Lamar University, a veteran of the US Navy with service during Korea, a retired truck driver for Texaco, member of the First Baptist Church of Mt. Belvieu, and volunteer for the boy scouts. He also enjoyed playing pool, fishing, bowling, and watching the Astros and other sports.

Mr. Teller was preceded in death by his parents and brothers: Leroy and Lawrence Teller. He is survived by his wife of 55 years: Katherine Williams Teller of Dayton, daughters: Kay Francis Rutherford and husband Gary of Dayton and Terry Elizabeth Wright of Dayton, grandchildren: William “J.P.” Teller, Lauren Averett and husband Jeremy, and William P. Wright, IV, great-grandchildren: Audrey and Ashlyn Averett, and numerous other relatives, and friends.

Shannon

Melba Joyce Hamilton Shannon, 70, of Dayton, died Sunday, April 3, 2011, in Baytown after an extended illness. She was born March 12, 1940 in Cleveland, Texas to parents Jesse and Eloise Norman Hamilton. She was a lifelong resident of Montgomery and Liberty County. She had worked as a caretaker with home health for many years and she enjoyed crochet and being with her family. Mrs. Shannon was a member of the Baptist Church.

Graveside Services will be 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 6, 2010 at Ryan cemetery in Tarkington Prairie with Rev. Jeff Day officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel, Dayton.

Mrs. Shannon was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Joann Hamilton. She is survived by her husband Edwin B. Shannon of Dayton; her sons: Billy Taylor of Dayton and Larry Taylor and wife Lori of Cut n’ Shoot; her daughter: Glenda Krueger and husband Randy of Yorktown; her brother: Wayne Hamilton; grandchildren: Jessica Taylor, Demetrius Taylor, Larry Joe Taylor and Amanda Schoffler; three great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

Blanchard

Laura Nell Blanchard, 68, of Batson, died Monday April 4, 2011 at Harbor Hospice of Beaumont.

Laura was born August 9, 1942 in Batson to Oscar Bradley Jordan and Athalea Fregia. A lifelong residence of Batson, she was an homemaker and a member of the Batson Prairie Baptist church. She is survived by her husband Adam Blanchard of Batson, sons Billy Blanchard and wife Charlotte of Batson, Adam Blanchard and wife Lois of Silsbee, and Tobby Blanchard of Batson. Daughters Elica Jones and husband Joe of Batson, Sandra Shoats and husband Eddie of Thicket.

Brother Harold Jordan of Batson, and sister Billie Jean Patton of Batson. Grandchildren are Christy Bean and husband Ken, Glenn Blanchard, Ashley Durham and husband Cody, Adam Strahan, Jim Ed Shoats, Riley Blanchard, James Derek Blanchard.

Great -grandchildren Natalie Bean, Eli Bean, Bryce Blanchard, Aiden Blanchard, Justin Shoats. A service of remembrance will be held Thursday April 7, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. at Faith & Family Chapel with Reverend Frank Aragon officiating, interment will follow at Guedry cemetery in Batson. The family will be receiving friends on Wednesday April 6, 2011 from 5:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. at Faith & Family Pallbearers are Ken Bean, Jim Ed Shoats, Adam Strahan, Eddie Shoats, Glenn Blanchard, Cody Durham. Honorary pallbearer is Joe Jones.

Clements

Beatrice Clements, age 88, died peacefully, Saturday April 2. 2011.

She was born in Hardin, October 13, 1922 the daughter of the late Eugene Fregia and Emma Doucette Fregia. Beatrice was a homemaker who enjoyed spending time with her family. During WWII, Beatrice joined the United States Coast Guard, as a Seaman First Class until her discharge in 1944.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband Kenneth Durbin and her second husband Merrill Clements, her sisters Lenora Sample, Idora West, Juanita Linney, and Ina Phillips, as well as a brother Jasper W. Fregia.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory her sisters, Leona Mitchell of Temple, Dorothy Ray of Hardin, Patsy Hoffer of Nappanee, Ind., and Delores Hardy of South Bend, Ind., a brother J.F. “Bud” Fregia wife Sharon of Pattison, TX and a sister-in-law Hazel Fregia of Vinton, LA. In addition she leaves a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Visitation will be held Monday, April 4, 2011 from 5-8PM at Allison Funeral Service, 1101 N. Travis Liberty, Texas. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday at 11AM at the Funeral Home with Rev. Lonnie Jordan to officiate, burial to follow in Hardin Chapel cemetery.

Jordan

Brenda Joyce Jordan, 61, of Hardin, died Thursday March 31, 2011 at her residence.

Brenda was born November 16, 1949 in Andrew TX to her parents Buster Spurgeon and Lois Spurgeon Baird. she had lived in Hardin many years and was a homemaker.

She is preceded in death by her Father Buster Spurgeon brothers Bruce Spurgeon and Thomas Spurgeon.

She is survived by her loving husband of thirteen years Bobby Jordan of Hardin, Mother Lois Spurgeon of Hardin, Sons Brent Fregia and wife Etta of Liberty and Jimmy Fregia and wife Ruby also of Liberty. Daughter Kim Fregia of Dayton, brother Buster Spurgeon Jr of Dayton sisters Sharlet Seamon and husband Terry of Mooresville North Carolina, Rhonda Spurgeon and husband Paul of Gastonia North Carolina and fifteen grandchildren.

A service of remembrance will be held at the graveside Saturday April 2, 2011 at 10:00 A.M at Palms Memorial Park & cemetery in Dayton.

Brenda was a loving Wife Mother, and grandmother who loved traveling as her health permitted. She devoted and cherished her time with her grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Jimmy Fregia, Brent Fregia, Jack Owens, Kenneth West, Paul Darby, and Billy Jordan.

Alsbrooks

David Alsbrooks, 54, of Dayton, died Saturday, March 26, 2011, in Baytown.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, April 2, 2011, at the Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel in Dayton.

David was born May 1, 1956 in Houston, to parents; Burl Vernon Alsbrooks and Nellie Lois Dove, a former resident of Lufkin, and has resided in the Dayton area for the past 13 years. He was a graduate of C. E. King High School class of 1976 and a former body man for B. J. Ford after six years of employment. He also enjoyed deep sea fishing, playing pool, gardening, riding his motorcycle, and spending time with his grandchildren.

Mr. Alsbrooks was preceded in death by his father: Burl Vernon Alsbrooks and mother: Nellie Lois Dove Keever. He is survived by his wife of nine years: Ona Ragsdale Alsbrooks of Dayton, daughters: Devin D. Coker and husband Jerry of Teague and Cynthia Medina and husband Rene of Dayton, son: Brian Middleton of Dayton, stepmother: Dorothy Alsbrooks of Lufkin, brothers: Donald Alsbrooks of Porter, Michael Alsbrooks and wife Tammie of Highlands, Joe Alsbrooks of Dallas, Steven Alsbrooks of Dallas, and Larry Foyt of Crosby, sisters: Karen Davis and husband Rodney of Atascocita, Susan Butler and husband Johnny of OK, and Doris Peck of Kemp, grandchildren: Rebecca, Adriana, Kirsty, Kayla, Andrew, and River, great-grandchildren: Dylan and Zane, nephew: Stephen Alsbrooks, and numerous other relatives, and friends.
