Reverend Norris Taylor
The Rev. Norris L.  Taylor of Idalou went to be with his Lord and Savior on Nov. 18, 2004.
Services were held at First Baptist Church of Idalou . Saturday, November 20, with Vestal
Blakely officiating and Alan Berry assisting. Burial followed in Idalou Cemetery. Arrangements
were under the personal care of  White Funeral Home of Idalou.
He had fought a two-year battle with vascular dementia and had received loving care at
Floydada Care Center, where he was living at the time of his death. Norris was born
July 26, 1925, in Rosston, Ark. He and Billie Jean Webb were married December 13, 1947,
in San Angelo. Bro.  Taylor spent 42 years as a Southern Baptist minister, serving the Lord
at Fort Concho Baptist Church in San Angelo and at First Baptist churches in Roby, Spur,
and Stinnett. He was a pastor for the whole community wherever he served. He was involved
in Little League and attended many school athletic events. Bro.  Taylor retired in 1989 and
spent several years as an interim pastor at various Baptist churches in the Lubbock area,
including Idalou. Norris served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He spent most of that time in
the South Pacific where he was assigned to the Marines during the invasion of Iwo Jima.
He received the Purple Heart for wounds he suffered during that invasion.
Bro.  Taylor is survived by his wife of 56 years, Billie, two sons, Johnny and wife Mary of Idalou,
and Steve and wife Renee of Ozona, one daughter, Amy Pritchett and husband Patrick of
Lubbock, five grandchildren, Chris  Taylor of Brownwood, Jenni and husband Jeff Lofton of
Midland, Scarlett and Jarryd  Taylor of Ozona, and Katy Pritchett of Lubbock, and one brother,
John Kelley and wife Gloria of Carlsbad, N.M.
The family requests memorials to First Baptist Church of Idalou.

Margaret Stubblefield

Margaret Stubblefield, 80, of Lubbock, died Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2004, at Garrison
Center after a lenghty illness. Services were held Friday, November 19, 2004 at the
Bell-Cypert-Seale Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Dave Ring, minister of First United
Methodist Church and the Rev. K.C. Blackketter, grandson-in-law, officiating.
She was born Dec. 29, 1923, near Mineral Wells and married Jeff Stubblefield Jan. 31,
1943. He preceded her in death Dec. 6, 2002. She worked as a respiratory therapy
technician for 15 years at Cogdell Memorial Hospital, in Snyder. She moved from
Snyder to Big Spring in 2000. She was a long time member of the First United
Methodist Church in Snyder.
She is survived by her daughters, Ann and her husband Paul Townsend of Big Spring,
and Sue and her husband Ben Maben of Spur; seven grandchildren; and
14 great-grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials to the Garrison Challenge Grant for Alzheimer’s
Research in care of Sears Methodist Foundation, One Village Dr., Abilene 79606,
or to a favoriate charity.
Arrangements were under the direction of Bell-Cypert-Seale Funerla Home in Snyder.

Sam O'Daniel Hulme

Services for Sam O'Daniel Hulme, 65, of Snyder were held Monday at Hillside Memorial
Gardens. Officiating were held Rev. Walter McCall, chaplain of Odyssey Hospice. Burial
was under direction of Bell- Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.
Mr. Hulme died Friday, Nov. 19, 2004, at his home after a lengthy illness. He was born
April 1, 1939, in Colorado City,  Texas. He married Barbara Franks on April 6, 1956, in
Canadian. They moved to Snyder from Dickens in May 2004. Mr. Hulme worked as an
auto body mechanic in Lubbock for 22 years. He was a Baptist and a member of the Lions
Club.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Hulme of Snyder, sons, Michael Hulme of Azle,  Texas,
and Mark Hulme of Princeton, Ky., a daughter, Leslie Skibell of Lubbock, three sisters,
Icie Stephens and Doris Jones, both of Lubbock, and Ruby Moore of Colorado City, 8 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Christopher Scott Hulme, a brother, Wayne
Hulme, and three sisters, Bonnie Hammond, Florence Lewis, and Lola Whitley.

Floyd Jack Ball, 82, of Odessa, went home to his eternal Father on March 29, 2005. He was born on April 2, 1922 to Wiley and Ella Ball in Grayson, CO. He married Dorothy Mae Rich on February 19, 1944 in Spur, TX. The couple had two children Edgar Wiley Ball and Nelda Kay Scott.
Floyd enlisted in the Army Air Force on October 14, 1942 and served his country with great pride until February 4, 1946 when he was discharged as a Sergeant. Upon completion of his military service, Floyd was employed by Phillips Petroleum Company. He worked as a mechanic for 28 years.
Floyd’s retirement years were some of his most enjoyable. He had a great passion for fishing and spent countless hours pursuing this pastime. He also developed a great talent for wood working and filled the homes of those he loved with numerous treasures.
Floyd is rejoicing in Heaven with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and also his wife, Dorothy, and his daughter, Nelda.
Floyd is survived by his son Edgar Ball of Clarkdale, AZ, son in law, Terry Scott of Odessa, granddaughters, Cristy Batte and husband Blake of Odessa and Kelly Weaver and husband Dan also of Odessa. He cherished his four great-grandchildren, Alix and Abby Batte and Nikita and Nate Weaver. He is also survived by a host of friends and family too numerous to count.
A memorial service were held on Thursday, March 31, 2005 at 2:00 PM at Immanuel Baptist Church with Troy Stevenson officiating.
Services were entrusted to Sunset Memorial Funeral Home in Odessa, TX.

Rebecca “Becky” Brantner Leonard died March 7, 2005 in Missouri, the day of her 58th birthday.
Graveside services will be held at Jayton Cemetery on April 9, 2005 at 10:30 A.M. She is survived by her mother, Arylene Branch of Walsh, Colorado, her sister, Charylene Smith of Walsh, Colorado, her niece and husband, Christy and Toby Lowry, Blacksburg, Virginia, and nephew, Cody Smith of Walsh, Colorado, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Her father, Ralph Brantner preceded her in death.
Memorials can be made to the Kent County Library, Jayton,  Texas.

Gladys Arrington Borden, age 94, of Norman, Arkansas, died Sunday, March 6, 2005. She was born on February 27, 1911 to L.C. and Mary  Jackson Arrington at Afton,  Texas. She graduated from high school in Dickens,  Texas. She married Howard Borden on February 21, 1931. He preceded her in death on January 15, 1988.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, six brothers, including Fred and Roy Arrington and one sister.
She is survived by one son, Ken Borden and wife Jacquelyn, of Norman, Ark. and one daughter, Marilyn Nolen and husband  Whitey of Weatherford,  Texas, five grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were held for Mr. Elmer “Bud” Gunnels March 10, 2005 at Mount Gilead Cemetery in Norman, Ark. Mr. Gunnels was born on October 26, 1923 to the late Alvy Emary and Louisia Carolina Simpson Gunnels. He passed away March 25, 2005 in Lubbock,  Texas at the age 81.
He married Ouida Atkinson on January 21, 1946 in Dickens,  Texas, she preceded him in death on March 17, 2005. He served in the US Navy during WWII on the U.S.S. Clark. Mr. Gunnels worked for Polka Lambro, until retiring in 1973. After retirement he moved to Dickens and farmed until he retired from farming in 2004. Mr. Gunnels moved back to Tahoka in 2004. He was member of the Sweet Street Baptist Church.
Survivors include, one son and daughter-in-law, Bobby and Mary Gunnels of Hagerman, New Mexico, one daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Doyle Willis of Tahoka grandchilren, Andrew and wife Kristin Gunnels of Hagerman, NM., Robert Gunnels of Hagerman, NM., Doyle “Bebo” and wife Kristy Willis of Lubbock, Darla and husband Robert Heinrich of Idalou and Delci Willis of Tahoka, one great-grandson, Austin Gunnels of Hagerman, NM., and one sister Irene  Jackson of Spur.
He is preceded in death by one son Gary Gunnels in 1998, four sisters and one brother.
Services were held March 29, 2005 at the Sweet Street Baptist Church in Tahoka with Reverend Kerry Gandy officiating and Reverend Lynn Long assisting.
Graveside services were held at Dickens Cemetery in Dickens, TX., under the direction of  White Funeral Home of Tahoka.
Memorials may be made to North Dickens County Senior Citizens or Sweet Street Baptist Church.

Billy Wayne Sisk, devoted husband, father and grandfather of Idalou departed this life, Thursday, March 24, 2005 in Lubbock at the age of 70.
He was born Oct. 20, 1934 in Posey to the late Tye and Grace Sage Sisk. Billy moved to Idalou from New Deal in Dec. of 1945. He graduated from Idalou High School in 1953. Billy married Ella Jo Powell , Sept. 8, 1969 in Lubbock. He was a veteran of the United States Navy from 1955 to 1957. Billy was a self-employed farm equipment dealer. He was a member of the Idalou Jaycees, Idalou and Lubbock Lions Club, Idalou School Booster Club, and the Idalou Church of Christ.
Those left to mourn his passing include, wife, Ella Jo Sisk of Idalou, mother-in-law, Bertha Powell of Spur, two sons, Joe Sisk and wife Jerri and Kyle Sisk all of Idalou, one daughter, Kim Snodgrass and husband Chris of Lubbock, three granddaughters, Courtney and Krista Snodgrass, and Emily Sisk, two brothers, Bobby Sisk and wife Maxine of Idalou, and Mack Sisk of Austin, numerous nieces and nephews.
Services were held Monday, March 28, 2005 at the Idalou Church of Christ with John Reeves officiating. Interment followed at Idalou Cemetery. Arrangements are under the personal care of  White Funeral Home of Idalou.
The family suggests memorials to the Lubbock Children's Home, 4404 Idalou Hwy., Lubbock,  Texas 79403 or American Heart Association, 4630 50th , Ste. 400, Lubbock,  Texas 79414.

Graveside services for Marie Dove, 86, of Crosbyton and formerly of Afton, were held
Saturday, January 22, 2005 at Afton Cemetery with Rev. C.L. Atkinson officiating.
Services are under the direction of Campbell Funeral Home.
She died Wednesday, January 19, 2005 in Crosbyton. Mrs. Dove was born November 11,
1918 in Shawnee, OK to Life and Beverly Glasscock West. She attended school in Olton.
She married Charlie Dove on February 20, 1937 in Olton. She and her family moved to
Afton in 1949. Charlie preceded her in death in 1987. She was an active member of the
Dickens Co. Senior Citizens for many years. She was a member of Afton Baptist Church.
She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Jane Smith and one grandson. She is
survived by two sons, Life Dove of Austin and Bill Dove of Afton, seven grandchildren,
16 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Afton Cemetery Assn:, Box 28 Afton,
TX 79220

Graveside services for Loyce Greaves Coats, 96, of Lamesa, were held Saturday, at
Five Mile Cemetery with the Rev. Clifton Igo officiating.
Arrangements were under the direction of Branon Funeral Home of Lamesa.
Coats died Thursday, January 20, 2005 at Lynnwood Manor in Levelland.
She was born October 26, 1908 in Dawson County. She married Leonard Greaves in
Lamesa. He died in 1950. She married Claude Preston Coats in lamesa in 1962. He died
in 1990.
She was a homemaker and member of the First Baptist Church.
In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by two sons, Wayne Greaves and
Do Greaves.
Survivors include three daughters, Maurine Williams of Spur, Lovetta Beckmeyer of
Ackerly, and Jeynette Simmons of Levelland, 16 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren,
and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials to the First Baptist Church TV Ministry or a charity of
choice.

Memorial Services for Cecil Carroll, 80, of Spur will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 29,
2005 at Dickens Baptist Church with Revs. C.L. Atkinson and Tommy Henderson
officiating. Services are under the direction of Campbell Funeral Home in Spur.
He died January 18, 2005 at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock. Mr. Carroll was born
September 19, 1924 in Weatherford to Gean and Lillie Biggs Carroll. He worked in his
father’s boot shop in Dickens and later went to work for Porter’s Phillips 66 service station
in Dickens, where he was employed for many years. He was a member of Dickens
Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two nephews and one great-nephew.
Cecil is survived by one sister and brother-in-law, Ann and William Butler of Haskell,
one niece and her husband, Patsy and James Hickox of Abilene, great nephews and
spouses, Terry and Joy Butler of Knox City, Eugene and Nikki Butler of Germany,
Tommy Butler of Haskell, Mickey Don Butler of Abilene, Jordan Butler Hickox of
Abilene and Cameron Butler Hickox ofAbilene, three great-great-nephews and 4
great-great-nieces.
