Darbonne

Donny E. Darbonne, age 60, died Saturday August 7, 2010 in Houston.

Donny was born May 24, 1950 in Liberty the son of the late John Batiste Darbonne Jr. and Bernice Tanner Darbonne. Donny loved to fish and hunt, and basically anything involving his son. He enjoyed making those around him happy. He was active supporter of his church, and could be found cooking or lending a hand in many organizations for the betterment of the community including the TVE and the Liberty Athletic Boosters. Donny worked in the oil and gas field for many years, as well as was the owner/operator of Enviro Source. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Johnny Darbonne.

He leaves behind his beloved wife of twenty-eight years, Marilyn Darbonne of Liberty, son Chad Darbonne of Liberty and his loyal lab Max. In addition he leaves many nieces, nephews, close friends and other relatives. Donny will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

A memorial service will be celebrated at eleven o’clock in the morning, Wednesday, August 11, 2010 at First United Methodist Church of Liberty with Pastor Jay Barnes to officiate. In lieu of flowers the family requests donation be made to the First United Methodist Church.

Allison Funeral Services has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Bridges

Thomas Jefferson Bridges II, age 67, of Liberty, died Saturday August 7, 2010 in Houston.

Thomas was born in Port Arthur, November 16, 1942 the son of the late William Thomas Bridges and Edrie Smith Bridges. Thomas joined the Navy immediately after high school, his wish was to travel and see the world. He was a gifted artist and decorated war veteran who devoted his life to his family and to his art. A caretaker to his father and mother and only asked to be left with his art.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory, sister Edrie Bridges of Liberty, brother Kirk Bridges of Houston, niece Lisa Cromwell of Houston, nephew Benjamin Cromwell of Austin and niece Holly Nunez of Houston. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

A graveside service will be held at 10:30AM Wednesday August 11, 2010 at Houston National cemetery.

Allison Funeral Services, 1101 N. Travis Liberty, Texas have been entrusted with the arrangements.

Wakeland

Ranny Von Wakeland, 50, of Anuhuac, went to be with his Lord and Savior and his son, Jody, Thursday, August 5, 2010.

Ranny was an instrument electrical technician for Reichhold Inc. He loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved to cook and his specialty was barbeque, he often would take part in cooking for charity and cook-offs. He was a family man who loved spending time with his family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his son Jody Alexander Goss.

He is survived by his wife, Tammy Wakeland; father, Ray Wakeland and his wife, Shirley; mother, Julie Robinson; grandchildren, Destiny Marie Goss, Jody Alexander Goss, Jr.,; daughter-in-law, Christy Goss; siblings, James Wakeland, Kenny Wakeland, Jennifer Lindsey, Cynthia Young; step-brothers, Randall Davis and wife Amy, David Davis, Leslie Davis; numerous family and friends, aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.

A memorial service will be held 1:00 p.m. on Monday August 9th, 2010 at Sterling Funeral Home in Anahuac, Texas, officiated by Ronnie Webb. Honorary pallbearers are Philo Elliott, Chad Fountain, James Wakeland, Kenny Wakeland, Chuck Wilhite, and Randy Davis.

Arrangements are under the direction of Sterling Funeral Home, 1201 S. Main St, Anahuac, TX, 409-267-3456.

Bracewell

Clyde Eugene “Gene” Bracewell, 78, of Liberty, passed away Thursday, August 5, 2010 at Christus St. Elizabeth Dubuis Hospital in Beaumont, Texas.

Gene was the owner and operator of Bracewell Electric and Air Conditioning Service in Liberty for the past 38 years.

Gene was an active member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Liberty, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Gene was also a member of the Liberty Elks Lodge BPOE 2019. He held the office of Exaulted Ruler in 1978 and 1980. He also held the office of secretary for eight years. Gene held many state offices with the Elks, to include Chairman of the Elks Hospital Board, Vice President and State Trustee. He also held the office of National Office of District Deputy Grand Exaulted Ruler. He was involved in many charitable fund raisers for the Texas Elks Childrens Services, where they provide services for children with special needs.

Gene was preceded in death by his grandsons, Todd and David Bracewell, his father, Carl V. Bracewell Sr., his mother Elora Bracewell, his brothers David, Vernon and Leroy Bracewell, sister Maxine Smith, father-in-law Edmond Manuel Sr., and mother-in-law Martha Manuel.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Priscilla Bracewell, son, Warren Bracewell and wife Donna of Seabrook, daughter, Donna Patton and husband James of Liberty, daughter Brenda Davis and husband Bryan of Liberty. Also survived by grandchildren Josh Patton of Liberty, Shaun Patton and wife Jessica of LaPorte, Brandy Goings and husband Jason of Sumpter, SC, Alicia Malin and husband Kyle of Ft. Campbell, KY, Wayne Davis and wife Kassi of Houma, LA, Keith Bracewell of Torrance, CA, Amber Bracewell and fiancé Mike of Ottawa Ontario, Canada, and 10 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers Carl V. Bracewell Jr. of Liberty, Max John and Barney Bracewell of Dayton, sisters Dorothy Nugent, Carolyn Maddox and Louis Quimby of Liberty, and Ann Skaggs of Hardin.

Visitation will be Sunday, August 8, 2010 from 5:00pm until 8:00pm at Allison’s Funeral Service, with a Rosary at 7:00pm. His funeral service will be held Monday, August 9, 2010 at 10:00am, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Liberty with burial following at the Catholic cemetery in Liberty.

Services are under the direction of Allison Funeral Service, 1101 N. Travis St., Liberty, Texas 77575.

Karl Dickerson

Karl Dickerson, age 52, of Hull, died Wednesday August 4, 2010 in Liberty.

Born in Liberty Texas December 8, 1957 to Leonard Dickerson and Hattie Bolton. He was a Construction Worker for Brown- Root.

He is survived by his Wife Yvonne Dickerson of Hull, Sons; Marvin Leonard Dickerson of Hull, and Alvin Franklin Dickerson of Hull, Brother; Raymond Franklin Dickerson of Hull.

A gathering will be held Saturday August 7, 2010 at 9:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. at Faith & Family Funeral Services Chapel.

Following a Graveside Service at Centerview cemetery in Bronson Texas at 2:00 P.M. with Reverend Gerald Cole officiating.

Final arrangements for Karl Dickerson are cared for by Faith & Family Funeral Service of Batson, TX.

White

Dorothy Annette White, 69, of Saratoga, died Tuesday May 4, 2010 at her residence.

Born in Thicket Texas to Everett Smith and Vada Hooks she had lived in Saratoga most of her life and was retired from West Hardin Independent School District as a cook, and was also a member of First Baptist Church of Saratoga.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother; Alfred E. "Buster" Smith. Dorothy is survived by her husband of fifty-one years Raymond Eugene" Sonny" White of Saratoga, Daughters; Penny White of Saratoga, Charlotte Blanchard and husband Billy of Batson, and Karen Madeley of Thicket. Grandchildren are Christy Bean and husband Ken of Beaumont, and Glenn Blanchard of Saratoga. Also Great-grandchildren are; Bryce, Natalie, Aidan and Eli.

A service of remembrance will be held Friday May 7, 2010 at 10:00A.M. at Faith & Family Funeral Services 40847 Hwy 105 E. with Reverend Frank Aragon officiating. interment will follow at Hall cemetery in Thicket.

The family will be receiving friends Thursday May 6, 2010 from 5:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M.at Faith & Family.

Campbell

Dale Campbell, 50, of Liberty, died from cancer at a local hospital early Tuesday, May 4, 2010.

Dale Wade Campbell was born on November 8, 1959, in Port Arthur, Texas to Nora Ann (Matlock) and Jimmy Thomas Campbell.

Although quiet, private, and soft-spoken, Dale was a man who studied people. He was an exceptionally gifted mechanic, 5 star, ASE certified specialist. Even as a young boy Dale would take an engine apart and put it back together just for something to do! He would often pull parts from ‘Junkers’ to make other cars run. Best times would be throwing back a Miller Lite outdoors with friends and or family. Even when sick, Dale wanted to be outside, or in the garage, if at all possible. If not, he had become quite the cooking expert from watching so many of the cooking shows. He was always piddling or telling you to chill. He will be greatly missed.

Preceding him in death were his father; brother, Ronnie Campbell; and Maw Maw, Myrtle Campbell.

Left behind to cherish his memory are his wife of eight years, (even though they’d only been married since January 10, 2010) Beverly Campbell of Liberty; daughter, Megan Campbell Crawford and husband, Scott, of Beaumont; mother, Nora Campbell of Hankamer; brothers, Clay Campbell and wife, Jean and Chris Campbell, all of Hankamer; step-children, Lisa, Mark and Allen Vogler, Ronald McMeans and Cody Harris; cousins, Kotty White, Scott Campbell, and Kay Karmali; 13 step-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Dale’s memorial service will be 3:00 p.m., Saturday, May 8, 2010 at Sterling Funeral Home in Anahuac with Russ Karmali officiating.

Final arrangements for Dale have been entrusted to Sterling Funeral Home, 1201 S. Main, Anahuac, Texas 77514.

Thomas

Lewis Raymond Thomas, 82, of Cleveland, died at a hospital in Humble, Texas on Saturday, May 1, 2010.

He was born on September 3, 1926 in Dallas, Texas to Eula May (Ingram) and Augusta Raymond Thomas.

A polite and honest man who would do anything for anyone, Lewis was also a man who told stories that had morals to them. Enlisting before graduating high school, Lewis served his country during WWII from Feb. 1945 until Oct. 1946. He got his degree from Stephen F. Austin and played football for them as well. He was a longshoreman who rough-necked in Midland during the oil boom and also Utah. He moved to Liberty County in 1979. In his free time Lewis enjoyed gambling.

Preceding him in death were his parents; wife, Kitty Gaskamp Thomas; brother, Ingram Thomas; sisters, Janine Lovell and Fay Richardson; and step-son, William Paul Gaskamp Sr..

Left behind to cherish his memory are son, Michael Raymond Thomas of Cleveland, Texas; brother, Roger Thomas and wife, Ann of Huntington, Texas; step-children, Danny Gaskamp Sr. and wife, Judith, Johnny Wayne Gaskamp and wife, Jan, Thomas Gaskamp, Freddie Gaskamp, and Kathy Adkinson; numerous grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

Visitation with family and friends will be 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 5, 2010 at Allison Funeral Service. Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday, May 6, at Moss Hill Community cemetery with the Rev. Jerry Cole officiating.

Pallbearers will be Allen Ray Cates, Benji Gaskamp, Bryan Gaskamp, Danny Gaskamp III, Michael Gaskamp, and Richard Gaskamp Sr., Honorary pallbearer is Danny Gaskamp Jr.

Final arrangements were entrusted to Allison Funeral Service, 1101 North Travis, Liberty, TX, 77575.

Papillion

Ozeya “Pop” Papillion, 70, of Liberty, died at his home on Sunday, May 2, 2010.

He was born on August 1, 1939 in Mallet, Louisiana, to Hilda (Guillory) and Theodole Papillion Sr.

Fun-loving, big talker, baseball fanatic, “Domino King”, harmonica player, Zydeco dance contest winner, and marble player are just a few of the many things that describe Ozeya and what he was about. He was a good hunter who lived by the adage “can’t kill nothin’ you can’t eat.” He was a gardener whose motto was “can’t plant anything you won’t eat.” On September 9, 1961, he married the love of his life in Leonville, Louisiana. Ozeya loved his family dearly, be it his wife, kids, grandchildren, siblings, or nieces and nephews. The final three years of his life Ozeya spent loving and serving Jesus, Whom he came to know in a personal way, as his Lord and Savior.

Preceding him in death were his parents; sisters, Anastasia Gobert and Mayola Ford; and brothers, Hilton Papillion and Theodole Papillion Jr.

Left behind to cherish his memory are his wife of 48 ½ years, Angelina Papillion, six children, James Patrick Papillion and wife, Ann, Laura Ann Papillion Semien and husband, Michael, Katherine Papillion Mouton, Lisa Marie Papillion, Elizabeth Jane Papillion Hardy and husband, Edwin II, and David Wayne Papillion and wife, Barbara; ten grandchildren, Stephanie George and husband, Sir Christopher, Samantha Hardy, Edwin Hardy III, Christopher Hardy, Shaquille Anderson, Marcus Papillion, Michael Semien Jr., Davisha Papillion, Deja Papillion and Desiree Papillion; two great-grandchildren, Nicholas George and Brooklyn George; siblings, Marietha Mitchell, Elsie May Bellow and husband, Austin, Venetta Rivon and husband, Richard, Walman Papillion, Ozia Papillion and Felton Papillion and wife, Delores; and a host of nieces, nephews and good friends.

Visitation with family and friends will be 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday, May 7, 2010 at Allison Funeral Service. Church services will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 8, at Cornerstone Church with the Rev. Hurley Clayton Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Palms Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Edward Golbert, Christopher Lemelle, John Lemelle, Warren Lemelle, Jason Papillion and Fredrick Papillion. Honorary pallbearers are Shaquille Anderson, Christopher Hardy, Edwin Hardy III, David Wayne Papillion, James Patrick Papillion, Marcus Papillion and Michael Semien Jr.

Phillips

Walter “Buck” Osgood Phillips, 80, of Raywood, died Sunday, May 2, 2010 in Beaumont after an extended illness.

He was born December 26, 1929 in Hull, Texas to parents John Miles Phillips and Nannie Lee Brown Phillips Richardson. He attended Hull Daisetta Schools, was employed by Superior Oil and before retirement he had worked for the Devers ISD for many years. He enjoyed gardening, hunting, raising and showing rabbits, and attending Blue Grass Festivals. Mr. Phillips served during Korean War in the US Army and was a member of the Hull Masonic Lodge No. 1193.

Services for Mr. Phillips will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 5, 2010 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Byron Reeves officiating. Interment will follow at Hardin Chapel cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00 to 9:00 p.m., Tuesday evening at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home, Dayton. Pallbearer are Johnny Green, Jerry Green, Jacob Phillips, Bob Parker, Vernon Poole, Jr., and Larry Wadzeck. Honorary Pallbearers are Scottie Jureka, Tommy Green, Gary Willoughby, and Mark Jones.

Mr. Phillips was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters: Alice Charles, Marie Green, and Geneva Clow; and his brother: Jack Phillips. He is survived by his wife of 40 years: Connie Guerrero Phillips of Raywood; daughters: Peggy Miller of Hull and Phyllis Sue Herrin & husband Lonnie of Kirbyville; sons: Walter O. Phillips, Jr. of Raywood, Walter D. Phillips & wife Ann and David Phillips and wife Raj of Georgia; grandchildren: Jakobi Phillips, Kris Dominy, Kory Dominy, Waylon Brawley, Lucas Brawley, Jaime Richardson, Danielle Massey, Jacob Phillips, Rachel Phillips, Joshua Phillips and wife Amanda; great-grandchildren: Adam Dominy, Elaina Dominy and Cory Wheeler; brother: James Phillips of Mont Belvieu; also numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

McManus

Rev. Cornelius J. “Nubbins” McManus, age 87, died May 1, 2010 in Beaumont.

He was born in Eros, LA September 20, 1922 the son of the late J.O. McManus and Allie Fombey McManus.

He worked as a heavy equipment operator for many years, but his passion in life was for his church.

He pastured for over sixty years, preaching in Le Roads, La, Annacco, LA, Price, Texas, and Ora, Texas.

He also preached revivals in numerous states; he even traveled to Jerusalem and preached in the garden.

He enjoyed hunting quail and raising his bird dogs.

He was preceded in death by his parents, eleven brothers and sisters, his first wife Beatrice McManus, and a great-grandson Nathan McManus.

He leaves behind his devoted wife Lucille McManus of Liberty, son James Cornelius McManus and wife June of San Antonio, daughters, Betty Perry and husband Juan of Baton Rouge, Barbara Stacy and husband Mark of Atlanta, GA, brother J.V. McManus of Lake Charles, step-son Allan Fontenot and wife Bobbie of Greenville Springs, stepdaughter Melyne Weddle and husband Thomas of Porter, nine grandchildren and step-grandchildren, Donald McManus, Tammy McManus, Rochelle Zachary, Brandon Muller, Corey Fontenot, Christine Boyer, Michael Fontenot, Quentin Williams, Bethany Thompson. In addition he leaves nine great grandchildren and step-great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 5, 2010 from six till nine o’clock in the evening at Daisetta United Pentecostal Church.

Funeral Services will be held Thursday May 6, 2010 at ten o’clock in the morning at the church with burial to follow in Melville Pentecostal cemetery, Melville, LA. Allison Funeral Service, 1101 N. Travis has been entrusted with the arrangements.
