Allisyn Fayth Coots infant daughter of James Robert "Jim Bob" and Brittany Deann Coots of Silsbee died Wednesday April 21, 2010 at Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont.

Survivors other than parents are grandparents; Angie and John Allen of Saratoga, Danny and Stacy Coots of Silsbee, Glenda and David Chapman of Silsbee, Kenneth Brown of Silsbee. Great-grandparents are, Robert and Marghuerite Storey of Saratoga, Reverend James and Elaine Coots of Batson and numerous aunts, uncles and friends.

A graveside service will be held Sunday April 25, 2010 at 1:00 P.M. at Old Hardin cemetery in Kountze with Reverend Douglas White officiating.

Final arrangements for Allisyn Fayth Coots by Faith & Family Funeral Home of Batson, TX.

Ross

Richard Wayne Ross, 70, of Dayton, died Tuesday, April 20, 2010, at his residence.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, at the Kenefick Southern Baptist Church with private family interment following at Magnolia Park cemetery in Dayton. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday, at the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral home in Dayton.

Richard was born February 21, 1940 in Beaumont, to parents; J. D. Ross and Blanche Virginia Taylor, a former resident of Baytown, and has resided in the Dayton area for the past 15 years. He was a graduate of the Silsbee High School class of 1957, a retired millwright from Zachry, a member of the Kenefick Southern Baptist Church and the Nolan D. Pickett VFW Post #5621, and retired veteran of the US Air Force. He also enjoyed fishing, golf, bowling, watching NASCAR, wood working, and gardening.

Mr. Ross was preceded in death by his father: J. D. Ross, mother: Blanche Virginia Taylor Horn, stepfather: James Vernon Horn, sister: Janice Dale Marquardt, and brother: Doyle Ray Jackson. He is survived by his wife of 15 years: Mary Shaw Ross of Dayton, daughters: Carol Lynne Ross of Galveston and Brenda Burnett of Thicket, sons: Robert Henry Ross and wife Dori of WI and Richard Lynn Rucker of Baytown, brother: Horace J. Jackson of Hardin, 16 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Scarbrough

Lois Peters Scarbrough, 74, of Daisetta, died on March 23, 2010.

She was born in McCune, Texas to Ruben L. and Althia A. Howard Peters on April 20, 1935. She grew up in Dayton but lived the golden years of her life in Daisetta with her loving husband and many close relatives. She was an accountant by trade but her passion was ‘reigning’ over her numerous ‘children’, consisting of all her younger brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews. She was always there for whoever needed her. She loved gardening, cooking, garage sales, and her Avon bottle collection.

Waiting to greet her in Heaven were her parents, brother, R.C. Peters, sister, Joy Tate, and great nephews, Christopher C. Sowell and Donald C. Holy.

Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 20 years, Willis Scarbrough of Daisetta, Texas, seven brothers and sisters, Faye Smith of Liberty, Texas, Bonnie Norris of Madison, Tenn., Aubrey Peters and wife, Doris of Hardin, Texas, Margaret Hoffman and husband, Otto of Hockley, Texas, Doyle Peters of Hull, Texas, Maurice Peters of Dayton, Texas and Connie Clements and husband, Gene of Daisetta, Texas, ten nieces and nephews, eighteen great nieces and nephews, eight great, great nieces and nephews and many more friends.

A celebration of her life will be held at the United Pentecostal Church, located on Utah St. in Daisetta, Texas on April 24, 2010 at 10 a.m. A family interment was held at Ryan cemetery in Tarkington, Texas earlier this month.

Altum

Morgan William Altum, 88, of Texas City, Texas, died on Monday, April 19, 2010 at his home. He was born January 12, 1922 in Rockwood, Tennessee to Robert and Bertha Altum.

Morgan grew up in Rockwood and obtained the position of a government policeman at Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio. Later he took a position at Carbide Petro-Chemicals in West Virginia. He transferred to Texas City, Texas, where he worked through the Carpenters Local #973. He was hired by Don Tarpy Construction as a foreman where he worked on numerous jobs. One of those jobs involved Morgan being foreman where they built one of the largest liquid cargo docks in the world, there, in Texas City, Texas and he received an award for that. After retirement, he and his wife spent their time on their farm in the small town of Saratoga, Texas where he loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. Morgan had a great love of music, and at one time was song director at Temple Baptist Church in Texas City. He loved spending time outdoors with his family, taking care of his farm animals and enjoying long walks with his best dog, Sleeves.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Jean Omeda Thomas whom he married June 22, 1946 in Covington, Kentucky; parents; five sisters, Imogene, Robbie, Ruby, Margret and Nelma; and one brother, J. R. Altum.

Left behind to cherish his memory are his son, Eddie Altum of Texas City; daughters, Rita Carlson of Galesburg, Illinois, and Lois Riley of Lighthouse Point, Florida; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and brother, Elmer Altum of Tennessee.

A private family burial took place at Palms Memorial Park. Final arrangements were entrusted to Sterling Funeral Home, 602 N. Main, Dayton, Texas 77535.

Mosley

Funeral services for James A. Mosley, 73, of Liberty, Texas will be 10AM Friday, April 23, 2010 at Allison Funeral Service, 1101 N. Travis Liberty, Texas with burial following in the Liberty Catholic cemetery.

Visitation will be Thursday, April 22, 2010 from 5-8PM at the funeral home.

Mr. Mosley died on April 16, 2010 at Liberty Dayton Community Hospital surrounded by his family.

He was born in Dayton, Texas and moved to Liberty in 1956. He retired from TXDOT after 37 years of service. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Juanita, daughter Janet Hughen, grandchild Christine Hughen, all of Liberty, great grandchildren, Noah Thompson of Thomasville, Alabama and Payge Davie of Dayton, brother Lewis Mosley and wife Maxine of Dayton, sister Aline Hajdik of Houston and numerous other family members and friends.

The family would like to thank all the wonderful staff at Compassionate Care Hospice. Memorials may be made to the church or charity of your choice.

Hooper

Mary K. “Kay/Mi-Mi” Hooper, 68, of Dayton passed away Sunday, April 18, 2010 in New Caney.

She was born July 3, 1941 in Texas City to parents John and Cecelia Fitzgibbons Keegan and graduated from Ball High School in Galveston. Kay was a longtime resident of Beaumont where she worked as a teacher’s aide for over 25 years with the special ed children at Westbrook High School in Beaumont. She was a member of the Infant Jesus Catholic Church.

Services will be 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 21, 2010 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel in Dayton with interment to follow at Magnolia Park cemetery, Dayton. Visitation will be 5:00 to 9:00 p.m., Tuesday evening at the funeral home.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 36 years: Billy Hooper, Sr. Her survivors include son: Billy Hooper of Beaumont and daughter: Holly Hooper Craus and husband Brandon of Dayton; grandchildren: Katelyn Westberry and Skylar Craus; brother: Don Keegan and wife Ruby of Austin; numerous other relatives and friends.

Blake

Rose Marie Blake age 83 died Sunday April 18, 2010 in Liberty.

Rose was born in Houston, May 28, 1926 the daughter of the late Harold Wait and Bessie Lee Blount Wait. A lifelong resident she was a member of First United Methodist Church and the Liberty Bridge Club. She enjoyed listening to country music, traveling and watching sports, especially the Astros. Rose retired after almost forty years of service from Tarver Abstract Company.

She was preceded in death by her parents as well as a sister Janet Wait and her beloved husband Allen Joseph “Joe” Blake.

She leaves behind her son Ronald Wayne Blake of Liberty, daughter Pamela Blake Caslin of Liberty, her grandchildren Polly Blake Dunn and husband Wesley of Auburn, Alabama, Allison Blake Ewing and husband Tommy of Collierville, Tennessee, and Brian Blake and wife Michelle of Olive Branch, Mississippi. She also leaves her great-grandchildren Blake William, Lora Rose, Rebecca Dana, and Sara Wesley Dunn of Auburn, AL. Grant Joseph, and Maggie Adele Ewing of Collierville, TN, and Allen Joseph “Joe” Blake II of Olive Branch, Mississippi.

Visitation will be held from five o’clock in the evening till eight o’clock Tuesday April 20, 2010 at Allison Funeral Service, 1101 N. Travis Liberty, Texas.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday April 21, 2010 at ten o’clock in the morning at First United Methodist Church in Liberty. Burial to immediately follow the funeral service in Cooke Memorial Park.

White

William Taylor White 88 of Hull, formerly of High Island TX, died Saturday April 17, 2010 at Fairy's Landing Resdential Care Center in Hull.

William was born April 8, 1922 in Stowell TX to Addison White and Elizabeth Monteau. He had lived in High Island for 64 years before moving to Hull. He was an Oilfield worker fo 32 years for Amoco in High Island and was also a Shrimper for 30 years. William taught Welding for 11 years at Lamar College. He attended School at High Island and finished in 1940 He was a U.S.Air Force veteran.

He was preceded in death by his wife Barbara Jean "Smith" White. his parents, and sisters; Doris Rhoden who lived at Batson Prairie and Geraldine Willis who lived in Batson. Survivors are son; William Taylor "Billy" White Jr of Winnie, daughter; Rhonda Myers of Winnie, brother; Bubba White of Shepherd. Sisters; Bessie Schmuck of Shepherd, Jessie Abshire of Winnie, Joyce Kent of Stowell, Mary Carouthers of Batson. Grandchildren; Two Great- grandchildren; Two.

A service of remembrance will be held Monday April 19, 2010 at 10:00 A.M. at Faith & Family Funeral Services 40847 Hwy 105 E. with Reverend Lonnie Jordan of The Daisetta United Pentecostal Church officiating. Interment will follow at High Island cemetery in High Island.

The family will be receiving friends Sunday April 18, 2010 from 5:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. at Faith & Family.

Prear

Graveside Service for Leroy Prear, Jr. 57, of Liberty, Texas will be held on Tuesday, April 20, 2010, at 11:00 A.M, in Wells Memorial cemetery, with Brother David LeFluer, officiating, under the direction of Wells Funeral Service, Liberty, Texas.

A native of Galveston, Texas, he was a forklift operator for the Sam’s Distribution Center in Dayton and was a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

He die, Wednesday, April 14, 2010 at San Jacinto Methodist Rehab Hospital, in Baytown, TX..

A wake service will be held on Monday, April 19, 2010 from 6:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. in Wells Memorial Chapel. Mr. Prear is survived by his wife: Cilesso Prear; three daughters: Tammy Prear-Hunter, Misty Prear-Broussard, and Erica Prear; two brothers: J. C. Prear and Jesse Prear; one sister: Mary Ann Austin; six grandchildren; three great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

Higgins

Jean Higgins died Wednesday, April 14, 2010, at her daughter’s residence.

She was preceded in death by her parents William and Mabel Sigle and her three sisters, Jo Ann, Norma and Billie Marie. She was the widow of her husband, Bill Higgins. Together they had two daughters, Janis Higgins Schmitz, who is married to Cleo, and Mary Higgins Henscey, who is married to Rick. Jean had two granddaughters named Dani Montgomery Nations, who is married to Jeff, and Ali Montgomery Tilton, who is married to Mike.

She has many special grandchildren named; Cleo Boyd, Cameron Pike, Chandler Boyd, Delaney Nations, Grant Tilton, Zachary Pike and Sydney Nations. Two special step-grandchildren are Jessica and Kaity Pike.

“Mimi” Jean lived a full life. She was born in Binger Oklahoma and during The Depression her family had to move to Freer, Texas. She graduated high school in 1940 and moved to San Fransisco, CA, where she was a Rosie the Riveter by welding Navy ships. There she met and fell in love with Navy man Bill. They moved to Dayton in 1952. Mimi Jean worked many jobs in Dayton- at the picture show, drove a taxi and owned a beauty shop. She loved to sew dresses for her girls and spend time with friends and family. She was later known as the the “Lady who sold Cokes” to the kids at the City park.

Jean was a daughter, a sister, a wife, a mother, a friend, and so much more. But, most of all she loved our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and always gave Him all the glory. Her charm, wit, love and enthusiasm is a great legacy. We will miss her here on earth, but like she said “Don’t say goodbye, just say see you later!”

Smesny

Jerry Smesny, “Pontiac Jerry,” 85, died after a lengthy illness on Tuesday, April 13, 2010, at his home. Jerry Albert Smesny was born on December 27, 1924, in Frydek, Texas, to Mary (Rachunek) and Joe V. Smesny.

Jerry married late in life, but it was for keeps. He and Josephine McMillen said “I do” on June 1, 1971, and were still married some 38 years and 10 months later! Of Czechoslovakian descent, Jerry could spin a good yarn and tell stories with the best of them. He loved polka music, and among the pleasures of his life was playing the accordion and keyboard among family and friends.

Whether in the role of sales or service manager, “Pontiac Jerry” (as he nicknamed himself) enjoyed working for several automobile dealerships over the years, including Bill Brackin and Johnson-Minter.

Jerry and Josephine attended St. Joseph’s and St. Anne’s Catholic Churches in Dayton and Eastgate.

“Papa Jerry,” as he was known to his beloved granddaughter, will be remembered by his love for and devotion to his family (friends, neighbors, church, etc.) and his cats.

Preceding him in death were his parents, his brothers, Louis and Joseph F. Smesny, and his sister, Molly Hanel.

Left behind to cherish his memory are his wife, Josephine Smesny of Dayton, daughter, Anne Marie Smesny, of Dayton, and sons, Jerome Albert Smesny and John Lawrence Smesny, both of Dayton; granddaughter, Brittany Marie Waters, of Dayton; sisters, Eleanor Leibham and Lillian Kulak, both of Crosby; and brother, Emil Smesny, of San Antonio.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with Rosary being recited at 6:00 p.m., on April 16, 2010, at Sterling Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be 1:00 p.m., Saturday, April 17, 2010, at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Eastgate with Fr. Jim McClintock as Celebrant. Burial will follow at the St. Anne’s Catholic cemetery.

Final arrangements for Jerry have been entrusted to Sterling Funeral Home, 602 N. Main, Dayton, TX 77535

He died Wednesday, April 14, 2010, at San Jacinto Methodist Hospital- Alexander Campus, Baytown, Texas.

Tate

Mary Alice Tate, age 76, died Tuesday, April 13, 2010 in Liberty, Texas.

She was born in Conroe, Texas, September 1, 1933 the daughter of the late George Milton Davis and Mary Gajdosik Davis. She was a graduate of Liberty High School and was a homemaker. She loved all animals, to garden and collect coca cola memorabilia, dolls, plates and just about anything. She was enjoyed her trips to the slot machines.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother Tommy Davis.

She leaves behind her husband of thirty-eight years Norman G. Davis of Liberty, son Joe Costanza of Deer Park, sister Betty Kolb and husband Kenneth of Houston, brothers Jimmy Davis and wife Barbara of Kingwood, Gus Davis and wife Chris of Kingwood, Sister-in-law Beverly Davis of Liberty, nephew Kevin Kolb of Houston, and a niece Shelley Paquette of Baytown.

Visitation will be held Thursday April 15, 2010 from five in the afternoon till eight o’clock in the evening at Allison Funeral Service, 1101 N. Travis Liberty, Texas.

A funeral service will be held Friday April 16, 2010 at ten o’clock in the morning at the funeral home with Rev. Frank Davis to officiate.

Burial to follow the service in Fairlawn cemetery, Liberty, Texas.
