Ramirez

Susie Belle Ramirez, 82, of Spring, died Thursday, April 1, 2010 at home after an extended illness.

She was born January 27, 1928 in Liberty, Texas to parents, Reuben and Ella Godfrey Ramirez and was a lifelong Dayton resident until the early 80’s when she moved to Spring. Susie loved all of her family and will be missed by all who knew her. She had worked as a cook at the Rainbow Café and at Mariner Convalescent Home.

Services for Susie are 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Beauty Street, Dayton, TX. Visitation will be 9:00 to 11:00 prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow at Palms Memorial Park cemetery under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home. Pallbearers are Ormande Johnson, Michael Seals, Jr., Deljohn Durio, Christopher Herpin, II, Reggie Porche, Henry Gradney, III, Jared Ramirez & John Ramirez, Jr.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister: Christina Medina; her brothers: Ben Ramirez, John Ramirez, and Roger Godfrey; daughter: Mary Elaine Gradney and son: Michael Patrick Paul. She is survived by her daughters: Sueona Herpin & husband Christopher of Houston, Pamela K. Barnba & husband John of Crosby, & Louise Seals of Spring; her sons: Johnny Durio and wife Brenda of Pearland, Lonnie Ray Johnson of Dayton and Henry Gradney of Houston; 17 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren; also numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Thibodeaux

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Tony Thibodeaux, Sr., 47, of Raywood, Texas on Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. at Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church. Ames, with the Reverend Father Ikeokwu Nduh, Celebrant, with burial in Ames Catholic cemetery, under the direction on Wells Funeral Service, Liberty, Texas.

A native of Liberty, Tony work for the Liberty County and was a member of Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church. Visitation will be held at the church from 9 am until 10:30 am at.

He died Wednesday, March 31, 2010 at his residence after an illness.

He is survived by his wife; Deborah Thibodeaux of Raywood; two sons: Tony Thibodeaux Jr. and Tyler Carry both of Raywood; one daughter: Shenyatta Jones; his parents: Eugene and Augustine Thibodeaux; five brother: Danny Thibodeaux of Liberty; Richard Thibodeaux of Winnie; Eugene Thibodeaux, Jr. of Raywood; Leslie Thibodeaux of Highlands, and Paul Thibodeaux of Raywood, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Smith

Martha Jane Pate Smith, 67, of Dayton, died Friday, April 2, 2010.

She was born October 12, 1942 in Stephenville, Texas to parents Verdell and Martha Pate. She had lived in the Dayton area for the past 30 years and was previously of Fort Worth. Martha enjoyed sewing, crochet, the outdoors in her flower garden, and fishing. She loved the Lord and his word and was a devoted wife, mother and friend.

Graveside service for Mrs. Smith will be 2:00 p.m., Monday, April 5, 2010 at Hardin Chapel cemetery under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home, Dayton. Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. until 12 noon, Monday at the funeral home.

She was predeceased by her parents and survivors include her husband of 48 years: Rodney Smith of Dayton; her daughters: Sherrie Lynn Mayfield and husband Randal of Pearland, and Sabra Dawn Farmer and husband Michael of Mont Belvieu; her son: Rodney Scott Smith of Bayou Vista; seven grandchildren; one great grandchild; brothers: Jim Pate and wife Deanna of Harper, Texas and David Pate and wife Virginia of Dayton; also numerous other relatives and a host of friends.

Jackson

On August 30, 1935 a baby boy was born to Lonnie and Mary Jackson in McNeil, Ark, whose name was Travis Jackson. Both parents preceded him in death.

Travis Jackson joined St. Matthews Baptist Church in McNeil, Ark at an early age and later united with New Bethel Baptist Church in Raywood, TX.

Travis married Edmonia Jackson, on February 16, 1953. They had been married 57 years when he was called to heavens’ reward on March 26, 2010.

On March 26, 2010, Travis was visited by the angel of eternity and departed this life. His passing has brought sadness to the hearts of all who loved him. We will miss him greatly! Words cannot express how we will miss his laughter and love. We will forever cherish his memories.

He leaves to cherish his memories: Three daughters: Lovenia Guillory of Houston, TX, Dianne Bailey (John) of Spring, TX and Kay Terrel (JT) of Raywood, TX; Five Sons: Freddy Jackson (Jackie) of Houston, TX, Travis Jackson, Jr. (Janis) of Raywood, TX, Lonnie Jackson (Renae) of Humble, TX, Jerry Jackson (Connie) of Raywood, TX and Donald Bruce (Pam) of Beaumont, TX; Twenty-nine grandchildren and Fourteen great grandchildren; Four sisters: Willie Mae Green and Ever Hughey both of McNeil, Ark., Eva Mae House (Morris) of Fordyce, Ark., and Velma Brent of Layton, Utah; Two brothers: Thurman Jackson (Chris) and Lonnie Jackson, Jr. both of McNeil, Ark.; One Brother-In-Law: Joe Bailey of Baytown, TX, along with a host of countless nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Loftin

Iris Irene Loftin, 67, of Thicket, died Wednesday March 31, 2010 at her residence surrounded by her loving husband and family.

Service of remembrance will be held Friday April 2, 2010 at 2:00 P.M. At First Baptist Church, of Saratoga with Reverend Frank Aragon and Reverend Jeff Blizzard officiating interment will follow at Felps cemetery in Thicket.

The family will be receiving Thursday April 1, 2010 starting at 2:00 P.M. Until 9:00 P.M. At First Baptist church.

Born in Daisetta Iris had lived in Thicket and was a homemaker and a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Saratoga.

Survivors are husband, Homer Loftin of Thicket, daughters; Connie Flowers and husband Ricky of Saratoga, Jennifer Kiker and husband Danny of Jasper AL. Crystal Brown of Rye, Gerita Robinson and husband Toby of Dayton. Sons; A.L. “Bubba” Brown and Lisa of LaBelle Sam Loftin and Kelly of Thicket. Sisters; Melba Goode and husband Bruce of Damon TX, Betty Irby of Barbers Hill, Geri Levassar and husband Don of Groesbeck, Glenda Laird of Nacogdoches, Margaret Hoffman and husband Willie of Vidor, Cathy Hoke and husband Larry of Kountze, June Hubert of Mauriceville. Brother David Laird and wife Dixie of Groesbeck, brother-in-laws; Delmer Flowers of Broken Bow OK, Jack Robertson of Damon TX. Grandchildren; seventeen, and Great-grandchildren six, and numerous nephews, nieces, and a host of friends who will miss her.

Pilcher

Curtis A. Pilcher, age 96, died Tuesday March 30, 2010 in Houston, Texas.

Curtis was born in Gilmer, Texas March 10, 1914 the son of the late Noah Pilcher and Jo Holder Pilcher. He enjoyed fishing and telling stories, and never met a stranger. In his youth he was a farmer and later was a gang pusher for Gulf as well as Miller Construction. Curtis moved to Liberty nine years ago, and was a past member of the Andrews Masonic Lodge Post 1024 where he became a 32nd Degree Mason.

He was preceded in death by his wife Emma Mozelle Pilcher, grandson Greg Brewer, great-granddaughter Melanie Malone, and his five brothers, Victor, Jack, Nathan, Pete and Wilson Pilcher.

He leaves behind his beloved children, James C. Pilcher of Longview, Jo Ann Harp and husband Bill of Woodlands and Emma McEachern of Woodlands, his two sisters Lou Long of Midland and Patsy Irwin of Freeport, and his grandchildren, Leslie Malone, Kim Modlin, Kevin McEachern, and Geoff Pilcher. In addition he leaves his great-grandchildren, Hillary Malone, Nathan Malone, Trey Carnley, Ashley Johnson, and Madilyn Pilcher.

Funeral services will be held Thursday April 1, 2010 at three o’clock in the afternoon at Allison Funeral Service, 1101 N. Travis Liberty, Texas. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place in Cooke Memorial cemetery.

Fountain

‘Paw Paw’, James T. Fountain, 86, of Anahuac, died early Tuesday, March 30, 2010.

James Thomas Fountain was born on January 31, 1924 in San Augustine, Texas to Melissa Jane (Mitchell) and King Fountain.

James, at 19, drove a school bus and ended up marrying one of his 14 yr. old riders, Ms. Reva Dockens on January 8, 1945. She still refers to him as a gentleman. He served his country during WWII in the United States Navy. An early nickname of ‘Peas’ came when James wanted a biscuit and peas for breakfast and then wanted the same meal to carry in his lunch pail. Back in his early days it was nothing for James and Reva to go dancing 3 or 4 times a week. The AYA girls basketball teams were treated to ice cream after their games and helped with fish fry fund raisers as he considered them his ‘Queens’ and he was their ‘Paw Paw’. He grew up loving to fish, as a man loved his boat, and any time he could have his fishing pole in the water was a good time! Gardening was also a pastime James enjoyed. His little four-legged companion, Bailey, will be lost without her master.

Preceding James in death were his parents; son, Ricky Fountain; brothers, Sam and John Fountain; sisters, Ardella Whitehead and Temp Balch; grandson, James Richard Fountain, Jr.; and twin great-grandsons, Austin and Justin Fountain.

Left behind to cherish his memory are his wife of 65 years, Reva Fountain of Anahuac; four children, Johnny Fountain and wife, Dianne of Athens, Michael Wayne Fountain and girlfriend, Debra of Anahuac, Shirley Arnold and husband, Michael of Broomfield, Colorado, and Chuck Fountain and wife, Kay of Raywood; eight grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; brother, Kay Fountain of Jasper; and sister, Nettie Marie Rayon of Livingston.

Visitation with family and friends will be 5 to 7 o’clock in the evening, Wednesday, March 31, 2010 at Sterling Funeral Home, 1201 S. Main St., Anahuac, Texas 77514. His services will be 2 o’clock in the afternoon, Thursday, April 1, 2010 at First Baptist Church, 405 S. Magnolia Ave., Anahuac, Texas 77514 with the Rev. Bill Fabriguze officiating. Burial will follow at the Anahuac cemetery. Pallbearers will be Tim Casaday, Bubba Fountain, John Elmer Moore, Leroy Olvera, John Wayne Valdez and Jason Weatherford.

Final arrangements for James have been entrusted to Sterling Funeral Home, 1201 S. Main St., Anahuac, Texas 77514,

Kraemer

Joshua was born in Houston, Texas on October 27, 1995 to his loving parents: Alan and Jodie Kraemer. He died on March 26, 2010 at the age of 14 years. Josh was a fun loving young man, very active in sports with countless friends.

Survivors include his parents; grandparents: Loanie and Dottie Barney, Everette and Jean Kraemer; uncle: Connie Barnes Jr.; aunt: Denise Barney; cousins: Kyle and Ryan Barnes; and friends beyond measure.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, March 30, 2010, 5:00-8:00 p.m. at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home, 14250 Hwy. 150 West, Coldspring, Texas.

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, March 31, 2010, 1:00 p.m., First Baptist Church, 100 E. Pine Ave., Coldspring, Texas. The family asks in lieu of flowers, donations be made to People State Bank in Coldspring, c/o Karen Teasdale in Memory of Joshua Alan Kraemer.

Nugent

Mary Thelma Fregia Nugent age 93 died Tuesday March 30, 2010 in Liberty.

She was born July 20, 1916 the daughter of the late Freran and Viney Fregia. Thelma enjoyed gardening, canning, and was a great cook. She was a devoted member to her church Pentecostal Tabernacle of Liberty.

She was preceded in death by her husband Jessie James Nugent, daughter Myrtle King and grand daughter Ashley Sue Nugent, and numerous siblings.

She leaves her sons William Robert Nugent of Liberty and Chester Fregia of Liberty. Her grandchildren, Robbie Nugent, Tandy Clements, Melinda Ray, Jeremy Nugent, Justin Nugent, Jessica Nugent, Jake Nugent, Juanita Deacon, and Melanie Vasquez. In addition she leaves numerous great-grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter on the way, Kylee Lea Rogers.

Visitation will be held Wednesday March 31, 2010 from five till eight O’clock in the evening at Tabernacle Pentecostal FM 2830 in Liberty. A funeral service will be held Thursday April 1, 2010 at ten o’clock in the morning at the church. Burial to immediately follow the service at Cooke Memorial cemetery.

Toland

‘Everyone’s Grandma’, Elna Mae Toland, 96, of Liberty, died on Monday, March 29, 2010.

She was born on September 16, 1913 to Mary Elizabeth (Wortham) and Timothy Carreker in Quanah, Texas.

When in the retirement center, her room was the gathering place ~ she was like a magnet, drawing all to her. Elna was the oldest daughter of eight children and did her fair share of ‘rearing’ her five younger siblings. A seamstress extraordinaire, Elna made all of her own, her daughter’s and granddaughters clothes. Anyone desiring an afghan, or who brought a garment needing mended, went away satisfied. Besides her numerous afghans, her Christmas ornaments were a delight to behold! Look creative up in the dictionary and her picture should be there because she was very gifted in all she did. Elna held membership in the Rebekah Lodge in Quanah, TX and First Christian Church in Nederland, TX. A friend to all, wonderful cook, talented seamstress, avid crocheter, and precious Christian homemaker, Elna will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Terry Toland; son, Phil Toland; grandson, Richard Roberts; one sister; and four brothers.

Left behind to cherish her memory are her daughter, Mary Ann Roberts and husband, Jerry of Liberty; five grandchildren, Cindy and Bob Hodgson of Coldspring, Lisa and John Twardowski of Liberty, Terry and Fran Toland of Louisiana, Sam Toland and wife Lorna of Round Rock, and David and Maria Toland of Round Rock; numerous great-grandchildren; several great-great grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Nena (Toland) Mahoney of Round Rock; brother, James Carreker of Calif.; and sister, Pearl Carreker, also of Calif.

Visitation with family and friends will be six to eight o’clock in the evening, Tuesday, March 30, 2010 at Allison Funeral Service, 1101 North Travis, Liberty, Texas 77575, (936)336-6418. Graveside services will be ten o’clock on Wednesday, March 31, 1010 at Memory Gardens in Nederland, Texas. Elna’s arrangements were entrusted to Allison Funeral Service.

Mouton

A Memorial Service for Gerald Gland Mouton, Sr., 63, of Houston, Texas will be held on Wednesday, March 31, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. in Wells Memorial Chapel in Liberty, with the Reverend Richard Ayers, Officiating, with burial in Wells Memorial cemetery, Liberty.

A native of Lake Charles, Louisiana he was a construction worker.

He died Thursday, March 25, 2010, at Houston Hospice after an illness.

He is survived by his wife: Dorothy Ross Mouton, three sons: Gerald Gland Mouton, Jr., Arthur Mouton and Derrick Mouton; one brother: Joseph Mouton and three sisters: Anna Smith, Zannie Mouton-Stroughter and Annie Mouton-St. Jullian; one brother-in-law: Joseph St. Julian; one uncle: Pete Rodriquez and a host of other relatives and friends.

Cornell

Lois E. “Grannie Mae” Gardner Cornell, 85, of Dayton, died Saturday, March 27, 2010, at the San Jacinto Methodist Alexander Campus.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 30, 2010, at the Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel with burial following at Guedry cemetery in Batson. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., Monday, at the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.

Lois was born November 23, 1924 in Hull, to parents; William D. and Annie Odom Gardner, a former resident of Daisetta and has resided in the Dayton area for the past 25 years. She was a homemaker, former private school bus driver, and member of the Community Christian Church. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, cooking, playing games, and caring for others.

Mrs. Cornell was preceded in death by her husband: Brooks F. Cornell, father: William D. Gardner, mother: Annie Odom Gardner, step-mother: Ruby Hayes Gardner Odom, and brother: William E. “Bubbie” Gardner. She is survived by her son: Waymon F. Cornell and wife Gail of Highlands, daughters: Linda “Lin” Pruitt and husband Roy of Dayton and Ruth Nugent of Cleveland, sisters: Barbara Ann Taylor and husband Kenneth of Moss Hill, Ethel J. Orand of Liberty, and Tressie E. Orand of Atascocita, seven grandchildren: Tonya Neuman and husband Kody, Waymon F. Cornell, Jr., William Cornell, Tammy Vauter and husband Johnny, Angel Olecki, Heather Rallis and husband Steve, Becky Vega and husband Abel, and Roy Nugent and fiancé Kristi Clapp, 16 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
