Nevels

Funeral Service for Andrew Leroy Nevels, 90, of Liberty, Texas, will be held on Saturday, March13, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. in Wells Memorial Chapel in Liberty, with Brother David LaFleur, Officiating, with burial in Wells Memorial cemetery, Liberty.

A native of Schulenburg, Texas he was a member of Mt. Rose Baptist Church where he served on the Usher Board.

He was a veteran of the United States Army and worked construction.

He died Tuesday, March 9, 2010, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont, Texas.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 A.M. until time of service in the chapel.

He is survived by one daughter: Nancy Gants; one son-in-law: Otis Gants of Liberty, TX; one sister: Octavia Nevels of Dallas, Texas and a host of other relatives and friends.

Hart

Gwendolyn Hart, age 88, died Sunday March 7, 2010 in Liberty, Texas.

Gwen was born in Pineland, Texas January 14, 1922 the daughter of the late John A. Fults and Mamie McSwain Fults Massingill. Gwen was a homemaker, who loved to play the piano. She enjoyed fishing, pick pecans, and canning. She was once voted most beautiful in her graduating class from Hull-Daisetta High School. She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Hull, attending Sunday school regularly.

She was preceded in death by her sisters, Essie Alford and Berval Boyd.

She leaves her beloved husband of fifty-five years, Dale Lee Hart Sr. of Hull, sons Dale Lee Hart Jr. of Houston, Gregory Bennis Hart of Hull, daughters, Vickie Lynn Hougesen of Sour Lake, Rebecca Jane Knight of Draper, UT, Carolyn Jean Hart of Sour Lake, and a sister Ella Mae Singleton of Thicket. In addition she leave eleven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from five o’clock in the evening till eight o’clock, Thursday March 11, 2010 at Allison Funeral Service, 1101 N. Travis Liberty, Texas. A funeral service will be held ten o’clock in the morning, Friday, March 12, 2010 at First Baptist Church, 1 FM 834 Hull, Texas. Burial will be held in Magnolia cemetery, two o’clock in the afternoon at Magnolia cemetery in Woodville, Texas.

Nau

Lois Marie Nau, age 83, died March 8, 2010 in Houston.

Lois was born October 6, 1926 in Beaumont, Texas the daughter of the late John Heiman William Lloyd and Ione Cooley Lloyd. Lois was an avid reader who enjoyed working on her crossword puzzles. When younger she loved to ride her horses, dance, and sew clothing. Lois worked as a secretary for Kirby Lumber Co. as well as for Lamb Printing Company.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two great-grandchildren, Cain Anthony LaFauci and Jacob William Nolan, as well as a son-in-law Rick Humber.

She leaves her beloved children, Larey Nau of Crosby, Lloyd Nau and wife Sadie of Vidor, Leah Humber of Liberty, and Lisa Cloud and husband Scott of Orange. In addition she leaves six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Allison Funeral Service, 1101 N. Travis Liberty, Texas.

Mooney

Dale Lynn Mooney, 51, of Crosby, died peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday, March 5, 2010 in Dayton after an extended illness.

He was born May 14, 1958 in Baytown, Texas to parents Charles S. and Imogene Chrisman Mooney. Dale graduated in 1976 from Channelview High School and served in the Naval Reserve for six years. He had been a member of Second Baptist Church in Channelview and had worked for many years as an operator at petroleum plants. Dale loved his family and enjoyed motorcycles. He was a member of the Soul Sinners Motorcycle Club.

Services for Dale will be 4:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 9, 2010 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel in Dayton with Rev. Danny Biddy officiating. The family will receive friends 5:00 to 9:00 p.m., Monday evening at the funeral home.

He was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his sons: Nick Mooney, Sr. & wife Candace of Crosby and Clayton Mooney & wife Marsha of Crosby; his sisters: Kay Stratman and husband Gerry of Dayton, and Gale Stuckey and husband Steve of Dayton; grandchildren: Nick Mooney, Jr., Clarissa Mooney, Kaylie Hall, & Alissa Mooney; the mother of his children: Cynthia Nail of Crosby; also numerous other relatives and friends.

Speights

Funeral Services for Deacon Calvin Speights, 77, of Hankamer, will be held Monday, March 8, 2010 at 11:00 p.m. at the Sun Light Baptist Church in Hankamer, with the Reverend Donald Speights officiating with burial in Richardson cemetery.

A native of Hankamer, he was a barber, a member of the Sun Light Baptist Church, a veteran of the U.S. Army and attended public school and graduated Charlton-Pollard High School in Beaumont, TX.

He died Tuesday March 2, 2010 at Clear Lake Hospital in Webster, TX from an illness.

Visitations will be held on Monday 8, 2010 from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at the church.

Deacon Calvin Speights leave to cherish his precious memories. Brother R.C. Speights, Sister Camilla Carrington, Madie O. Speights. Children Debra Speights, Mae Boykin of Baytown, Calvin Speights, Jr., Pamela Speights, Danny Speights, and Jackie Speights all of Los Angeles, California. One Aunt Nettie O. Rice of Richmond, TX. Ten grandchildren and two great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Taylor

Frank Edward “Ed” Taylor, 82, of Daisetta, Texas, died Friday, March 5, 2010.

He was born on September 2, 1927 to Robert and Ferlie (Nugent) Taylor in Beaumont, Texas. Ed was a life long resident of Liberty County. For many years he worked in the renovation, roofing, and remodeling business. Before he became ill, Ed enjoyed hunting, fishing, and enjoying the sights and sounds of the beach.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Clarence Taylor; sisters, Una Mae Taylor and Lily Welch; and wife of 20 years, Mary Taylor. He is survived by his daughter, Glenda Vines of Hull; grandchildren, Josh Young, Kelley Taylor, Josh Nugent, Johnny Fregia, Terry Fregia, Patricia Elliott, Timmy Fregia, Randy Nugent, Justin Nugent, Lewis Marcantel and Tony Marcantel; great-grandchildren, Quincey and Kane Bott and Caleb Downs; special friend and partner, Nan Taylor; his dog “Sissy”; step-sons, Clayton Nugent and wife Judy, Kenny Nugent, and Elbert Fregia and their children and grandchildren all of Daisetta; sister, Tiny Tousha of Liberty; adopted son, Leroy “Bo” Welch of Dayton; and numerous other relatives and friends.

A visitation for family and friends will be from five until eight o’clock in the evening Monday, March 8th at Sterling Funeral Home. A service of remembrance will be held at two o’clock in the afternoon Tuesday, March 9th at Sterling Funeral Home with interment to follow in Monroe Fregia cemetery. Final arrangements for Ed have been entrusted to Sterling Funeral Home 602 N Main St Dayton, Texas 77535.

Hanks

Richard L. Hanks, 41, died unexpectedly on Saturday, February 27, 2010 in Phoenix, AZ.

Richard Lynn Hanks was born on May 17, 1968 in Livingston, Texas to George and Caren (Graves) Hanks. To know Richard was to love him. He was fun, always happy, on the go, loved life, was a good pool player, was the one who cheered everyone else up, liked bragging about his good looks, had fun singing karaoke and being the life of the party. Richard was an outdoorsman who absolutely loved to hunt and fish and was a member of the North American Hunter’s Association and the North American Fisherman’s Association. He liked football and was an avid Dallas Cowboy fan. A trusted and valuable employee of both Overland, and most recently, USA Marble Liquidators, Richard enjoyed his work for both companies the past 20 years.

Preceding him in death were his parents.

Left behind to cherish his memory are his brother, Thomas Dewayne Hanks of Cleveland, TX, sister, Kimberly Ann Taylor and husband, Dan of Henderson, NV, brother, George Wesley Hanks and sister, Mitzi Cassandra Johnson, both of Dayton, TX, and step-sister, Katy Faye Hanks of Bryan, TX; and 13 nieces and nephews.

Visitation with family and friends will be six to eight o’clock Friday evening, March 5, at Sterling Funeral Home, 602 N. Main, Dayton, TX 77535, (936)258-2678. A celebration of Richard’s life will be two o’clock in the afternoon on Saturday, March 6, at Sterling Funeral Home with Wayne Johnson officiating.

Pallbearers will be Chris Cole, Raymond Lee, Scooter Moffett, Nick Bernard, Evan Hooker, Brian Johnson, Bobby Davis and Tommy Hanks.

Cato

Karen D. (Campbell) Cato, 57, of Dayton, Texas died Monday, March 1, 2010.

She was born on October 30, 1952 in Minden, Louisiana to John and Bonnie Campbell. Karen was a devoted and beloved wife, mother, daughter, and sister. She touched the lives of many people during her time here. Karen prepared many delicious meals for family and friends because she so enjoyed cooking and baking. She also had a creative flair with making jewelry and was just an artistic person in general. Her real passion was for music as she loved anything from the Beatles or Janis Joplin all the way across the musical spectrum to numerous classical pieces as well.

Karen was preceded in death by her brother, Kevin Dale Campbell; sister, Amanda Kaye Campbell and grandparents, Woodward H. and Velma Sims.

She is survived by her loving husband of 35 years, Michael Cato; daughter, Kelley Bird and husband, David of Liberty and their children, Devin, Tyler, Alyssa, and Cameron; son, Shawn Cato and wife, Erica of Fort Bend and their children Damian, Miguel, and Leah; son, Christopher Cato and the love of his life, Charlotte Koehler; parents, John and Bonnie Campbell; brother, Jayson Campbell and wife, Mary and their son; and numerous other relatives and friends.

A visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, March 5th from twelve noon until two o’clock in the afternoon at Sterling Funeral Home, 602 N. Main, Dayton, Texas 77535, (936)258-2678. A celebration of Karen’s life will take place on Friday, March 5th at two o’clock in the afternoon, also at Sterling. A graveside service will be held at Old Minden cemetery in Minden, Louisiana at three o’clock in the afternoon on Saturday, March 6th.

Flewellen

Esther Rae Tanner Flewellen, 78, of Hardin, died Wednesday March 3, 2010 at her daughters residence in Hull.

A native of Mont. Belvieu she had lived in Hardin and Liberty most of her life. She was retired with 20 years of service from Continental Telephones as an operator and also was retired from First Liberty National Bank of Liberty as a Bank Teller.

Esther was preceded in death by her husband Junius Coleman Flewellen.

She is survived by her daughter; Glenda Ullery and husband Harry of Hardin, brother; Larry Armstrong and wife Irene of Prosper TX, sisters; Edith Townsend and husband Danny of Big Sandy, Janey Scott and husband Donald of Lampasas TX. Granddaughter; Heather Posinski and husband Troy of Tomball, and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

A graveside service will be held Friday March 5, 2010 at 12:00 noon at Guedry cemetery in Batson with Reverend Gideon Watson officiating.

Arrangements are under the care Faith & Family Funeral Services, Batson, TX.

Spradley

Lillian Spradley, 73, of Moss Bluff, died Tuesday, March 2, 2010 in Liberty after an extended illness.

She was born March 23, 1936 in Sterling, Kansas to parents Claude and Clarice Willers Phillips. Mrs. Spradley had been a resident of Moss Bluff since 1978 and was previously of Baytown. She was well known for her love of music as she often played for everyone at the nursing home in Liberty. Music was her passion as she played the piano, organ, and many other musical instruments entertaining all. She was previously owner of an antique business.

Services for Mrs. Spradley will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday, March 4, 2010 at Pace Stancil Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Charles Pierce officiating. Interment will follow at Fairlawn cemetery in Liberty. Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. until service time on Thursday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Spradley was preceded in death by her father, her son and daughter-in-law: Carl and Glenda Hart, brother: Vernon Phillips and sister: Mary Phillips. She is survived by her husband: Robert D. Spradley of Moss Bluff; her mother: Clarice Willers of Kansas; her daughter: Brenda Davis and husband Fred of Dickinson; her grandchildren: Tammy and Shannon Holmes of Allen, Texas, Shawn Clift of Moss Bluff, Jessica Holcomb of Chandler, Arizona, Cary Rouse & Lana of League City, and Frederick Davis, Jr. of San Diego, California; her great-grandchildren: Jonathan & Lilly Holmes of Allen, Texas, Morgan & Christopher Clift of Chandler, Arizona, Kelsey Rouse of League City and expecting soon Audrey Rouse; her sisters: Wanda Doran of Sterling, Kansas and Sara Seite and husband Myron of Branson, Missouri also numerous other relatives and a host of friends.

BAHAM

On Saturday, February 27, 2010, Gail Baham was welcomed to heaven by her son, Dusty, her Mom and Dad, Grandpa and Grandma and all the many pets that had gone before her. Gail was not only a loving and kind person but an humble soul. She never placed priority on worldly possessions. Her sons, family and friends were of most importance to her. Gail felt most alive outdoors, in the sunshine, on the beach or riding her horse out in the meadow.

She will be greatly missed by her son, Travis Wadsworth, whom she dearly loved. Although distance sometimes separated them, Gail knew how much Travis loved her.

We love and will miss you. Until we meet again, Travis, John, Carol and Cheryl.

Final arrangements for Gail were entrusted to Sterling Funeral Home, 1201 S. Main St., Anahuac, Texas 77514.

Donatto

Ora Antonia “Snookie” “Tweety” Guillory Donatto of Ames, age 88 died on Thursday, August 20, 2009 in Baytown, TX.

Services for her will be held on Tuesday, August 25 at 10 A.M. at Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church in Ames with viewing from 8 -10 A.M. A visitation of family and friends will be held on Monday, August 24 from 5-8 P.M. at Allison Funeral Service, 1101 North Travis in Liberty.

Ora was born on April 16, 1921 in Devers, TX to parents, Antoine and Mary Bell Guillory. She lived her entire lifetime in Liberty County. She met her husband on the playground when they were in elementary school. She enjoyed oil painting, crocheting, sewing, cooking, and ceramics. She was a faithful member of Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church, where she served as a CCD teacher, on Parish Council, God’s Housekeepers, the Rosary Group. She and her husband owned and operated the Tweety Bird Nursery School. They both enjoyed volunteering for many organizations such as Helping Hands, Host/Cricket, Art League and VFW Auxiliary.

She served as the Book Fair Chairman.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, 9 months, 29 days and 22 hours, Freddie “Skipper” M. Donatto, her parents, and grandson, Kevin M. Trahan.

Ora is survived by her son, Joseph T. Donatto; daughters, Mary Margaret Trahan and Valencia Arceneaux and husband Adam; sister, Carolyn Victorian and husband John. Also surviving are her grandchildren: Anita Donatto, Victor Donatto and wife Tonya, Danielle Donatto, Nicole Donatto and Major G. Scott Trahan and wife Michelle; great-grandchildren: Tania, Nailah, Simone Donatto, Josephine Jones, Adam Donatto Gunter, Andrew T., Sean C. and C.J. Trahan as well as many nieces and nephews.
