John William Tanner, Sr., 93, of Hull, died Thursday May 21, 2009 at The Veterans Administrative Hospital in Houston.

A native of Bryan Texas he had lived in the Hull area about 50 years and was retired out of the Oilfield Industry where he was an Oilfield worker with Roeling Oil Field service in Daisetta. John was also WWII U.S. Navy veteran.

Survivors are Sons; John William Turner Jr and wife Pat of Raywood, Edward Tanner and wife Mary Lois of Daisetta. Daughters; Doris Gorden of Batson, Iris Fregia and James of Hull, Judy Dulaney and Adam of Cleveland and Joyce Cooley and husband Reggie of Hull. Half-brother; Jr. Lloyd of Kirbyville. Sisters; Julia Hubbard of Sweeney Texas, Marie Wheelus of Cleveland. Grandchildren; 9 and numerous Great Grandchildren.

A service of remembrance will be held Saturday May 23, 2009 at 3:30 P.M. At Faith & Family Funeral Services 40847 Hwy 105 E., Batson, Texas, with interment to follow at Palms Memorial Park of Dayton.

The family will be receiving friends Friday May 22, 2009 starting at 5:00 P.M. Until 8:00 P.M. At Faith & Family.

Dickerson

Funeral Service will be held for Mary Lee Dickerson, 81, of Liberty, Texas on Saturday, May 23, 2009, at Turkey Creek Baptist Church, Liberty, Texas at 11:00 A.M. with the Reverend Paul E. Cross, Pastor, officiating, with burial in Lone Star cemetery, Moss Bluff, Texas.

A native of Liberty, she was a housewife, a graduate of Liberty Training High School, and a member of Turkey Creek Baptist Church.

She died, Thursday, May 14, 2009 at her residence after an illness.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 A.M. until time of service at the church.

She is survived by her husband, Recie Dickerson; five daughters: Ida Arceneaux of Raywood, Ellen Ellisor of Houston, Jo Ann Broussard of Liberty, Helen Curry and Connie Cormier, both of Ames; three sisters: Ellen Brooks, Ada Warren and Elizabeth Cook, all of Liberty; eleven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; and six step grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

Hill

Funeral Service will be held for Barbara Lynn Hill, 44, of Hankamer, Texas, on Saturday, May 23, 2009, at St Mary's Baptist Church, Hankamer, Texas, at 1:00 P.M. with the Reverend Calvin Nicholas, Jr., Pastor, officiating, with burial in Whittington cemetery, Hankamer, Texas.

A native of Anahuac, she was a homemaker, a graduate of Anahuac High School and a member of St. Marys Baptist Church.

She died Saturday, May 16, 2009 at her residence after an illness.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M. until time of service at the church. She is survived by two sons: Tristan Jimmy Jamal Hill and Corentho’s Hill, both of Hankamer; one sister: Shirlene Hill of Hankamer and a host of other relatives and friends.

McCoy

Funeral Service will be held for Mattie Marie McCoy, 62, of Baytown, Texas, on Saturday, May 23, 2009, at Wells Memorial Chapel, Liberty, Texas, at 3:00 P.M. with the Reverend Richard A. Ayers, Jr. officiating, with burial in Wells Memorial cemetery, Liberty, Texas.

A native of Beaumont, she was a housewife, attended public school in Beaumont and Liberty.

She died, Wednesday, May 13, 2009 at Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital in Houston.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 P.M. until time of service in the chapel.

She is survived by her husband, Lawrence Routte, of Baytown; two sons: Michael S. Messer and John J. Messer, both of Baytown; two brothers: Michael W. Seals, of Channelview, and Wilbert Williams of Denver, Colorado; four sisters: Josie M. Mallett of Houston, Beulah M. Mallett of Liberty, Eva S. Caballero, of Baytown, and Yolanda G. Kelley of San Antonio; fourteen grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

Wuneburger

Walter E. “Bubba” Wuneburger, 76, of Dayton, died Sunday, May 17, 2009, at his residence.

Graveside services will be held at noon, Wednesday, May 20, 2009, at the Dixon cemetery in Paige, Texas. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday, at the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.

Bubba was born February 13, 1933 in Austin, to parents; Elmo and Alma Ethridge Wuneburger, a former resident of Channelview, and has resided in the Dayton area for the past 15 years. He was a retired mechanic and carpenter, and enjoyed mechanics, fishing, gardening, and his morning coffee with friends.

Mr. Wuneburger was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Billy, Roy, and Barney Wuneburger, and sister: Ann Schmidt. He is survived by his wife of 15 years: Debra Kay Johnson Wuneburger of Dayton, son: Troy Wuneburger and wife Margaret of Buffalo, daughter: Dena Bowman and husband Floyd of Buffalo, step-sons: Jimmy Dean First and wife Stella of Baytown, Charles Lyons and wife Abby of Houston, Lynn Langley and wife Becky of Houston, and Timothy Thompson of NC, step-daughter: Misty Creel and husband Ricky of Houston, 12 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Schmidt

Evelyn Melsouria Adams Schmidt, 92, of Dayton died Thursday, May 14, 2009 at home.

She was born March 11, 1917 in Spring, Texas to parents: John and Nettie Wolfe Adams and had lived in Dayton for the past ten years previously of Pearland. Mrs. Schmidt graduated from Milby High School in Houston and had worked for Joske’s and Dillard’s. She was a member of the Broadway Baptist Temple, taught Sunday School for over 32 years, enjoyed her flowers, her garden and especially loved her grandchildren.

Service for Mrs. Schmidt will be 3:00 p.m., Sunday, May 17, 2009 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be 12:00 until service time on Sunday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Schmidt was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 50 years: Charlie A. Schmidt; her son; Kenneth W. Schmidt; her sisters and brothers-in-law: Opal and Sam Williams, Hortense and Glenn Brown; her sister: Mary Johnny Adams; her brothers-in-law: Bud Sullender and Gene Sanders. She is survived by: her Daughter: Charlyn Rice and husband Gary; her grandchildren: Jody Lesser and wife Angela; Christy Batista and husband Phil; Chelsea and husband Kurt Noack all of Dayton; Michael Mollan, Jr. and wife DeeDee of Pasadena; her sisters: Jane Sullender of Pearland, Toby Ottosen and husband Brad of Pearland, and Tiby Sanders of Kittrell; also numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Smith

Melvin Dee Smith of Huffman, age 57, died May 13, 2009 in Cushing, Oklahoma. He was born in Wasco, CA. July 12, 1951 the son of the late Dearl Dee Smith and Jewell Monzell Yocum Smith. Melvin was a self employed welder-fitter for his company MD Specialties. He was a member of the Tarkington Prairie Masonic Lodge and the Scottish rite.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He leaves behind his wife Danelle (Spivey) Smith of Huffman, son Daniel Dee Smith of Coffeyville, KS, daughters Casey Simmons and her husband Jacob of Huffman, Shelby Hilton and her husband Michael of Crosby, a step daughter Kim Hyatt of Augusta, GA and a sister Jerrilene Ailey and her husband Carl of Stroud, OK. In addition he leaves five grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Friday from 5-8 pm at Sterling Funeral Home, 602 N. Main, with a funeral service to be held 10 AM Saturday, Burial to follow in Huffman cemetery. At the families request they ask for no flowers.

West

Idora (Fregia) West, age 92, died Thursday, May 14, 2009 at Liberty Healthcare Center.

Idora was born in Hardin, Texas, February 19, 1917 the daughter of the late Gene Fregia and Emma Doucette Fregia. A homemaker, she was a member of United Pentecostal Church since 1937.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Earl West; brother, Jasper Willard Fregia; sisters, Lenora Sample, Juanita Linney, Ina Marie Phillips; daughter, Juanda Faye Foreman and grandson, Scotty Wallace.

She leaves behind her cherished family: sons, Robert West and his wife Martha, Gary West and his wife Pat, and Randy West all of Batson; sisters, Leona Mitchell of Temple, Beatrice Clements of Hardin, Dorothy Ray of Hardin, Patsy Hoffer of Indiana, and Delores Hardy and her husband Art of South Bend, Indiana and brother, J.F Fregia and his wife Sharon of Brookshire. In addition she leaves ten grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren, one great great-grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Visitation will be held Friday from 5-8 P.M. at the Allison Funeral Service, 1101 N. Travis, Liberty, Texas. Funeral Service will be held 1 P.M. at United Pentecostal Church in Batson, with visitation to begin at 10 A.M. in the church.

Turner

Jane M. Turner, 62, of Sour Lake, died Wednesday May 13, 2009 at Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont.

A native of Carrollton, Georgia she had lived in Sour Lake since 1982 and was a homemaker.

Survivors are, husband; Larry Turner of Sour Lake, Sons; Marty Spears and wife Bobbi of LaGrange, Ga. Bull Turner and wife Rachael of Sour Lake. Daughters; Lynette Duke of Dover, Ark. Pamela Kay Smith and husband Joe of Sour Lake, Missey Turner and fiancé’ Mark of Sour Lake, Grandchildren; nine, Great grandchildren; two.

A Memorial service will be held Saturday May 16, 2009 at 11:00A.M. At First Baptist Church of Sour Lake, with cremation to follow. Arrangements by Faith & Family Funeral Services of Batson, TX.

Finkelmeier

Gary George Finkelmeier, 62, of Houston, died April 23, 2009 at Ben Taub Hospital in Houston.

A native of Cincinnati Ohio, Gary was an Electrician with Merchant Marines and a U.S. Marine Corp Veteran.

His parents Walter H. Finkelmeier and Dorothy Margaret Jansen Finkelmeier preceded him in death;

Survivor includes daughter in law; Tammy Lockhart of Highlands TX, and numerous friends and relatives.

Memorial service will be held Saturday May 16, 2009 at 2:00 P.M. at Faith & Family Funeral Services Chapel, 40847 Hwy 105 E., Batson, TX, with cremation to follow. Arrangements by Faith & Family Funeral Services of Batson, TX.

Coffey

Donald Ray “Junior” Coffey IV, age 7, died Saturday May 9th, 2009 at Memorial Hermann Children’s Hospital.

He was born in Cleveland, Texas, September 18, 2001 the son of Donald Ray Coffey III and Rebecca S. Baker Coffey. Junior loved anything outdoors, being on his four wheelers, the motorcycle with Dad, and doing just about anything his older brother was doing. He was in the first grade at Stephen F. Austin Elementary, and enjoyed attending First United Pentecostal Church in Mont Belvieu.

Donald was preceded in death by his uncle Albert Baker.

He leaves behind his beloved family, parents Donald & Rebecca Coffey, brother Cody Lee Baker, sister Destiny Dawn Coffey, aunts Stacey Whitten, Amy Nalley, Ruthanna Riccio, Mary Lou Baker, and Cindy Nalley, paternal grandparents Steve and Marilyn Olson and Bill Nalley, and his maternal grandparents Mary Baker, Herb Cranmer, and Buddy Baker. In addition he leaves numerous cousins and extended family.

Junior will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. Visitation will be held from 5-8pm Sunday May 17, 2009 at Sterling Funeral Home, 602 N. Main Dayton, Texas.

Funeral services will be held 2PM Monday May 18, 2009 at Mont Belvieu First United Pentecostal Church.

Slaughter

Kimberly Louise Brock Slaughter, 41, of Dayton, Texas, died Monday, May 11, 2009 after a battle with Lou Gehrig's disease.

She was born in Pasadena, Texas on October 2, 1967 to J.R. Brock and Johnnie Mae Kelley. Kimberly enjoyed anything outdoors. She loved to fish, camp, hunt, and ride horses. She was loving, caring, determined and strong-willed. Kimberly loved most of all spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Kimberly was preceded in death by her daughter, Terri Renee Slaughter; grandparents; and aunt, Louise Rayon. She leaves behind her loving husband Terry Slaughter; daughter, Lynn Slaughter; sons, Michael Beemer of Baytown, Khristopher Slaughter of North Carolina, Ricky Britt of North Carolina, and Chad Britt of Beaumont; daughter, Rebecca Britt of Baytown; mother, Johnnie Mae Kelley of Mt. Belvieu; father, J.R. Brock; brothers, Jerry Reinier and wife Liz of Dayton and Daniel Brock and wife Jennifer of Moss Bluff; sister, Vickie Fatheree and husband Tim of Moss Bluff, Louisiana; grandchildren, Hunter, Gabriel, Dalton, Rileigh, Cooper, Kannon, Jake, Ethan, Tori, and two on the way; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A visitation for family and friends will be from two until three in the afternoon Thursday, May 14th at Sterling Funeral Home. A service of remembrance will be held at three o'clock in the afternoon Thursday, May 14th at Sterling Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kimberly Memorial Fund at Legend Bank. Final arrangements for Kimberly have been entrusted to Sterling Funeral Home, 602 N Main St, Dayton, Texas 77535.

Clegg

Cecil Dorothy (Mangum) Nelson Clegg, age 101, died Tuesday May 12, 2009 at Magnolia Nursing Home.

She was born in Anahuac, Texas March 17, 1908 the daughter of the late George Washington Mangum and Eliza J. Fondron Mangum.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, R.J. Nelson, and her second husband Virgil Clegg, her four sons J.E. Nelson, Eldridge Clegg, Billy Clegg, and Bobby Joe Clegg, her sisters Lula Mae Lynch, Gertrude Blumquist, Margie Scofelia, and Luzie Davis as well as a brother H.A. Mangum.

She leaves behind her sons W.E. Nelson and his wife Margie and R.J. Nelson Jr. and his wife Marie, brothers James Earl Mangum and his wife Pauline, and Elvy L. Mangum and his wife Blanche. In addition she leaves thirteen grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren. Cecil also leaves numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 1pm at the Allison Funeral Service, 1101 N. Travis, Liberty, Texas with visitation to be held two hours prior. Burial will be private.

Kelley

Dorothy N. (Sasser) Kelley, 78, of Dayton, died Friday, May 8, 2009, at her residence.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, May 10, 2009, at the Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel with burial following at Linney cemetery. Visitation will be held from noon to 2 p.m., Sunday at the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.

Dorothy was born May 2, 1931 in Baytown, to parents; William Lee and Lizzie Johnson Sasser and has resided in the Dayton area throughout her life. She was a homemaker and enjoyed flowers, working puzzles, cooking, and caring for others.

Mrs. Kelley was preceded in death by her parents, sons: Henry and Johnny Dudley, and brothers: Harvey and Billy Sasser. She is survived by her husband of 42 years: Dan Kelley of Dayton, daughters: Lizzie V. Remmers and husband Archie of Dayton, Ruby W. Kelley and husband Mike of Dayton, Diana K. Armstrong of Dayton, and Dorothy S. Burdette and husband Phillip of Dayton, sons: Terry J. Dudley and wife Sheryl of Hardin and Dan E. “Goo” Kelley of Dayton, grandchildren: Johnny L. Dudley, Jr., Kelly L. Grimes, Bobby D. Remmers, Rhonda L. Wolfe, Alan S. Kelley, Jason D. Kelley, Johnny L. Armstrong, Henry L. Armstrong, and Keri D. Burdette, great-grandchildren: Kason Dudley, Jadan Grimes, Bobby D. “A.J.” Remmers, Jr., Kandis D. White, Joshua Remmers, Sara A. Wolfe, Heather N. Wolfe, Collin S. Kelley, Matthew S. Kelley, Annabelle J. Kelley, Madlyn G. Kelley, Davran Haney, and Joselyn Armstrong, great great-grandchild: Taytum White, and numerous other relatives, and friends.
