Tackett

Victoria Suzanne (Hill) Tackett, 63, of Dayton, Texas, died Wednesday, March 25, 2009.

She was born on April 18, 1945 to Dan Franklin and Patricia Ruth (Bryant) Hill in Louisville, Kentucky. Victoria loved and trained dogs. In 1990 she went into the ministry and over the years ministered to intercity children. She helped form Feed My Lambs Ministry.

Victoria was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her loving husband Joseph Tackett; sister, Candice Jacobson and husband Kent of Dallas; and numerous canine friends over the years.

A visitation for family and friends will be from six until eight o’clock in the evening Sunday, March 29th at Sterling Funeral Home.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, March 30th at Sterling Funeral Home at ten o’clock in the morning. In leiu of flowers donations should be made to the Christian Broadcasting Network. 800-759-0700.

Deckert

Ouida Manners Stovall Deckert, 84, of Liberty, Texas, died Friday, March 27, 2009.

She was born October 19, 1924 in Daisetta, Texas, to John James and Lula Mae Manners. Ouida enjoyed cooking and fishing. She was an active member of Heights Baptist Church. Ouida was a nurse for over 50 years. Above all, she loved spending time with her family.

Ouida is preceded in death by her husband, Weldon B. Stovall; son, Weldon B. Stovall, Jr.; husband, Jack B. Deckert; parents; brothers, Pierce Manners and Thurman Manners; and sister, Thurslee Cherry Dean.

She is survived by one daughter, Beverly Stovall of Liberty; one stepdaughter, Nancy Fosburgh of Duncanville and her husband Edward; sister, Mavis Daniel; two step grandsons Jason Fosburgh of Duncanville and Jonathan Fosburgh of Katy and his wife Heather; two step great-grandchildren, Abby and Emily Fosburgh of Katy; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

A visitation for family and friends will be from five until seven o’clock in the evening Sunday, March 29th at Allison Funeral Service. A service of remembrance will be held at two o’clock in the afternoon at Allison Funeral Service on Monday, March 30th with interment to follow in Guedry cemetery.

Final arrangements for Ouida have been entrusted to Allison Funeral Service, 1101 N Travis, Liberty, Texas 77575. 936.336.6418.

Dickerson

Funeral Service will be held for Helen Dickerson, 86, of Liberty, Texas, on Thursday, April 2, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Miles Missionary Baptist Church, with the Reverend Artie Edwards, officiating, Rev. Raphael Montgomery, Pastor, with burial in Wells Memorial cemetery.

A native of Liberty, she attended public school in Liberty, She was a member of St. Miles Baptist Church and a homemaker.

She died Friday, March 27, 2009, at her residence in Ames after an illness.

Visitation will be held Thursday, 8:00 AM until time of service at the church.

She is survived by eight sons: Leon Dickerson of Houston, Willie Wesley Dickerson of Anahuac, Willie Lee Dickerson, Larry Donell Dickerson, Gene Allen Dickerson, Bruce Elmer Dickerson, all of Ames, Thomas Eugene Dickerson of Weirgate, and Tracey Adam Dickerson of Raywood; five daughters: Igeane Edwards of Liberty, Alice Orebo, of Ames, Louvenia Hill of Dayton Theda Lois Dickerson of Weirgate, and Carolyn Ann Mouton, of Winnie; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and other relatives and friends.

Carter

Alton Thomas “Tom” Carter II, 57, of Dayton, Texas, passed away Thursday, March 26, 2009. He was born on April 6, 1951 in Dayton to Alton Thomas and Virginia Wonderlane (Ripkowski) Carter. Tom enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was one of a kind. Tom was a welder. He loved his children and grandchildren.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents and brother Stanley Edward Carter. He is survived by his loving wife, Nikki Losier-Carter; son, Tom Carter III and wife Cindy; daughters, Regina McMakin and husband Boyde of Baytown, Renee Kollaja and husband Brad of Fayetteville, and Christy McDowell and husband Jude; step-sons, Chance Brown and wife Raedean of Highlands and Patrick Brown of Dayton; grandchildren, Cody, Kutter, Bryce, Kyle, Nathan, Kinlee, Kaden, Ashlynn, and Brooke; and numerous more relatives and close friends.

A visitation for family and friends will be from five until eight o’clock in the evening Saturday March 28th at Sterling Funeral Home. A service of remembrance will be held at Sterling Funeral Home Sunday March 29th at two o’clock in the afternoon with interment to follow in Palms Memorial Park. Cheselka

Ernest E. “Ernie” Cheselka, 78, of Liberty, died Tuesday, March 24, 2009, at his residence.

Memorial services for Mr. Cheselka will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.

Ernie was born October 2, 1930 in Portage, PA, a former resident of Barbers Hill, and has resided in the Liberty area for the past 35 years. He was a veteran of the US Marine Corps, a retired pipe fitter from the Chevron Cedar Bayou Plant after 20 years of employment, and enjoyed watching baseball.

Mr. Cheselka was preceded in death by his parents, son: Jerry Lee Cheselka, and brother: Phillip Cheselka. He is survived by his wife of 36 years: Janet Courtney Cheselka of Liberty, sons: Jason Cheselka of Liberty and David Cheselka and wife Gina of FL, daughter: Patricia Cheselka of WV, sister: Irene Drada of NJ, brother: Eddie Cheselka of NJ, five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Jackson

Funeral Service for Sarah Mae Jackson, 79, of Double Bayou, Texas, will be held Saturday, March 28, 2009 at 1:00 P.M. at St Paul United Methodist Church, Double Bayou with the Rev. Mary Shotlow, officiating with burial at Mt. Zion Baptist cemetery also in Double Bayou.

A native of Double Bayou, she was a retired educator of the Hull-Daisetta School District. She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church.

She died on Wednesday, March 18, 2009 at Methodist Hospital in Houston, Texas after an illness.

A wake service will be held Friday, March 27, at the funeral home. Visitation will be held Saturday from 12:00 noon until the time of service at the church.

She is survived by one brother, Roscoe Jackson, of Houston, three sisters: Frankie Jackson Long of Houston, Emily Jackson Humphrey of Phoenix, Arizona, and Judy Jackson of Washington, D. C., and a host of other relatives and friends.

Taylor

Dora Albert Taylor, Sr., 64, of Daisetta, died Monday, March 23, 2009 at his residence.

Born to Bowen Leonard Taylor and Hazel Ilene Fregia Taylor in Liberty, Texas, Dora had lived most of his life in Liberty County, and was a Tool Pusher in the oilfield Industry.

He is survived by his Sons; Dora Albert Taylor Jr and wife Donna of Daisetta, Pat Taylor and wife Pam of Woodville, Boyette Taylor and wife Kellie of Liberty, Wilburn “Brad” Taylor and wife Kerrie of Daisetta, Albert Taylor of Silsbee. Daughter; Christina Villarreal and husband Michael of Livingston. Brother; Bowen Leonard Taylor Jr and wife Beverly of Pinehurst, TX and Sister; Virginia Gall and husband John of Dayton. Grandchildren; 16.

A service of remembrance was held Thursday, March 26, 2009 at 1:00 P.M. At Central Baptist Church of Daisetta, with internment following at Guedry cemetery in Batson.

The family will received friends on Wednesday, March 25, 2009 from 4:30 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. also at Central Baptist church.

Tabers

Melvin A. “Mano” Tabers, 55, of Liberty, died Sunday, March 22, 2009, at the St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital in Houston.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 25, 2009, at the Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel with burial following at the Cooke Memorial cemetery in Liberty. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., Tuesday, at the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.

Melvin was born May 8, 1953 in Austin, to parents; Melvin A. Tabers, Sr., and Paralee Allman Tabers, a former resident of Mexia and Tomball, and has resided in the Liberty area for the past 10 years. He was a former captain for the C.C.A. of the Liberty County Jail and employee of the Liberty County Courthouse maintenance department, had attended the Montgomery County College and U of H, and enjoyed his family, fishing, hunting, and woodworking.

Mr. Tabers was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 39 years: Elaine Todd Tabers of Liberty, daughter: Tonia Blanton of Liberty, son: Michael Tabers and wife Christy of Wortham, grandchildren: Troy S. Blanton, Krista E. Blanton, and Briana L. Blanton, April C. Tabers, Tori S. Tabers, Chelsea M. Tabers, Christina D. Tabers, Alex D. Tabers, Brittany Robertson, Caleb Robertson, Devon Harmon, Branden Webb, Nikki Sackett, Jaci Sackett, and Elizabeth Raleigh, sisters: Joyce Stevenson of Mexia, Virgie Arthur and husband James of Montgomery, and Kay Heard of Mexia, mother-in-law: Shirley Todd of Liberty, sisters-in-law: Becky Stanley and husband David of Mexia, Tammey Shriver and husband Bret of OH, and Cindy Pullin of League City, brothers-in-law: Steve Todd and wife Carol of Kenefick, Charles Todd and wife Jennifer of Tomball, Mike Todd of Liberty, and Jimmy Todd of Houston, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Noack

Emma Lou Crocker Noack, 82, of Dayton, died Saturday, March 20, 2009 in Dayton. She was born December 18, 1926, in Dayton to parents, Leslie E. and Carrie Francis Canter Crocker.

Mrs. Noack was a lifelong resident of Liberty County. She was a homemaker and a member of Simmons Bottom Assembly of God Church. Mrs. Noack loved being with her family.

Service for Mrs. Noack will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 24, 2009, at Simmons Assembly of God Church with Rev. Lyndol Kinser and Rev. Krystal Alderidge officiating. Interment will follow at Ryan cemetery in Tarkington. Visitation will be 5:00 to 9:00 p.m., Monday, March 23 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home.

Mrs. Noack was preceded in death by her parents, her husband: Edwin F. “Ed” Noack, her brothers: Robert Crocker, Ray Spraker and Dock Spraker, her sisters: Opal Gillen, Hattie Keck, Sadie Shipman and Moreen Croft. She is survived by her sons: Edwin E. “Butch” Noack and wife Jelene, Paul Leslie Noack and wife Doris; her brother George Crocker and wife Frances; 8 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; also numerous other relatives and a host of friends.

Lyons

Melba Lorene Gunn Lyons, 80, of Hardin, Texas, died peacefully at her home on Thursday, March 19, 2009.

She was born in Birdtown, Arkansas, on October 26, 1928 to John Thomas and Roxie Viola Gunn. Lorene met the love of her life, Harvey, on a blind date and then married him on September 12, 1949. She was a nurse, baker, singer, and loving and devoted mother. There wasn’t much Lorene couldn’t do.

Lorene was preceded in death by her parents; loving husband of nearly 51 years Harvey Lyons; three brothers and one sister. She is survived by her four children, Donnie Lyons and wife Beth, Larry Lyons and wife Carolyn, Randy Lyons, and Carol Rayburn and husband David; six grandchildren, Lori Fondon, Shane Lyons, Megan Traylor, Eric Lyons, Amanda Rayburn and Chris Rayburn; thirteen great-grandchildren: Schuyler, Ashtyn and Madelyn Ballew; Allie and Ava Fondon; Gavin and Haylei Lyons; Lizzie Rayburn; Austin and Chandler Bond; Cathleen and Dennis Alexander; and Avery Traylor; her little guard dog and special friend Jack; and numerous more relatives and friends.

A visitation for family and friends will be at North Main Baptist Church in Liberty, from four until six o’clock in the afternoon Saturday, March 21.

A service of remembrance will be held at two o’clock in the afternoon Sunday, March 22 at North Main Baptist Church with interment to follow in Hardin Chapel cemetery.

Shird

Margaret Ann Shird, age 51, died March 9, 2009 in Liberty.

She was born in Selma, Alabama, November 1, 1957 the daughter of the late Harless Jackson Stowers and Ella Louise Tolbert Stowers. Margaret last worked for JJ Chevron previously working at Houston Vacuum as a sales representative for over thirteen years.

She leaves behind her beloved family, her daughter Amy Owens of Liberty, and her son Bobby Owens and his wife Shelly of Kounce, her brother David Stowers and his wife Becky of Livingston, Sister Mary Parnell and her husband Hobert of Rocky Gap, VA and Wanda Sue Railey of Bluefield, West Virginia. In addition she leaves a close family friend Michelle Kirkpatrick and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held Friday from 4-6pm at Allison Funeral Service, 1101 N. Travis with a memorial service to be held at 6pm.

Dingley

Elsie Violet Sturge Dingley, 94, of Mont Belvieu, died Monday, March 16, 2009, in Baytown.

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, March 19, 2009, at the Memory Gardens cemetery in Baytown with memorial services following at 3:00 p.m., Thursday, at the First United Methodist Church in Mt. Belvieu. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., Wednesday, at the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.

Elsie was born September 15, 1914 in Flitwick, Bedfordshire, England, to Alfred and Alice (Short) Sturge. She married Edwin Dingley on June 17, 1939, moved to the United States in October 1952, spent their first year and a half in Sutherland Springs near San Antonio, and then relocated to Mont Belvieu in March of 1954. She was a retired cafeteria manager for the Barbers Hill ISD after 17 years of employment, member of the First United Methodist Church of Mt. Belvieu, former member of the Rebekah Lodge, and enjoyed knitting and church and community activities.

Mrs. Dingley was preceded in death by her parents, husband: Edwin “Ted” Dingley, son: Francis W. “Bill” Dingley, granddaughter: Michell Anne Dingley Brown, and brother: Ted Sturge. She is survived by son: Robert “Bob” Dingley and wife Terry of San Antonio, daughter-in-law: Beverly Kay Dingley of Old River, grandchildren: David Dingley and wife Lorraine, Alex Dingley, Amanda Dingley, Clifton Dingley, Samantha Brookshire and husband Jason, great-grandchildren: Jonathan Dingley, Peter Dingley, Samantha Dingley, Samuel Dingley, and Alden and Christian Brookshire, brother: Alfred Sturge and wife Peggy of Kenilworth, England, cousins: Joan and Peter Sturge of Dorking, England, and numerous nieces and nephews in England.

Rogers

Lucy E. Rogers, 84, of Ace, Texas, died Sunday, March 15, 2009. She was born in Sophie, West Virginia on November 11, 1924 to Henry and Dora Gearhart who preceded her in death along with her husband, Thurman Rogers.

Survivors include her daughters, Elizabeth and Rudy Alberth of Magnolia, Texas, Betty and Jesse Mask of Channelview, Evelyn and Wayne Kirton of Ace, Texas; sons, Roy Rogers of New Caney, Texas, Larry and Dorthy Rogers of Cut-and-Shoot, Texas, Dennis and Tammy Rogers of Plum Grove, Texas; brothers, Woody Gearhart of San Antonio, Texas, Robert Gearhart of Kountze, Texas; grandchildren, Romana Kahanek, Rudy Albert Jr., John Alberth, Debbie Ables, Robin Coleman-Kreps, Trina Sims, Michelle Casas, Kimberly Placker, Vonda Leisure, Christopher Rogers, Brandy Rogers, Michelle Rogers, Dennis Rogers, Douglas Rogers, Joseph Chapman, Gene Rogers, Kevin Rogers, Alex Rogers, Crystal Usher, Kimberly Rogers, Lane Rogers, Tyler Sterling, Rachel Sims, Macie Alberth, Victoria Kreps, Emma Kreps, Nicolas Kaharek; great-grandchildren, Natalie Kahanek, Braden Couper, Cole Usher, Naomi Rae; Aunt, Ruby Johnson; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other cherished family members and treasured friends throughout the years.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, March 17, 2009, 5:00-9:00 p.m. at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home, Cleveland, Texas. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 18, 2009, 10:00 a.m., Pace-Stancil Chapel with graveside services following at 1:00 p.m., Houston National cemetery, Houston, Texas.

Doucette

JoAnn “Jo” Doucette, precious mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and dear friend died on March 14, 2009 in Liberty.

JoAnn, known throughout her life as Jo, was born on the seventh day of December in 1934, in Houston, Texas to the late Willie Webster Swearingen, Sr. and Leona Miller Swearingen. She was the second of 5 children, attended Liberty High School, and was a lifetime resident of Liberty, Texas. On December 23, 1952 she married the love of her life, the late James Thomas Doucette, Jr.

She was employed by Pace Stancil Funeral Home as a Pre-Need counselor and served as Facilitator for the Grief Relief of Liberty County for eleven years. She took great pride in her work and poured her heart into the Grief Relief organization. Jo was a wonderful lady giving fully of herself to all she came in contact with who were hurting and in need of love. She displayed a true gift from God; compassion for others.

A celebration of her life will be held at Pace Stancil Funeral Home Chapel 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 17, 2009 with Rev. Pat Savage officiating. Interment will follow at Palms Memorial Park cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday evening 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Jo is preceded in death by her parents, Willie and Leona Swearingen, husband, James Thomas Doucette, Jr., and brothers, Eddie Lee Swearingen and Willie Webster Swearingen, Jr. She is survived by her daughters, Susan Camardelle of Spring, Texas, grandson, David Smith and wife Michelle of Tomball, great-granddaughters, Taylor and Charley Smith of Tomball; daughter, Sherre Weeks and son-in-law, Winfred of Fruitvale, Texas, granddaughters, Wende, Shara, and Melissa Weeks of Fruitvale; daughter, Debbe Pugh and son-in-law Michael of Spring, Texas, granddaughters, Kemberlee and Kristee Pugh of Spring; son, James Thomas (Tomme) Doucette, III of Beaumont, Texas, brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Linda Swearingen of Liberty, Texas; sister, Norma Jean Swan of Alvin, Texas; sister-in-law, Neeta Swearingen of Liberty, Texas.

The family would like to thank all the staff at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, Liberty Dayton Community Hospital, Liberty Health Care Center, Odessey Hospice, Dr. Williams and Dr. Patibandla for compassionate care. Also a sincere thanks to her dear friends for their concerns, love and encouragement during her illness.
