Vrana

Edward E. Vrana, Sr., age 82, died Saturday at his home in Dayton.

He was born in Sheldon, Texas, January 10, 1927 the son of the late Joe and Bessie Valla Vrana. Edward served as a private first class in the US Army and was a veteran of WWII. A master mason for over fifty years he was a past member of the Sampson Lodge #231 of Crosby. Edward was the proud founder in 1973 of Double “E” Grinding Company that he owned and operated for numerous years in Pasadena, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, as well as a son Edward Earnest “Bo” Vrana Jr, and a loving companion Lucille Reynolds.

He leaves behind his children, Sandra June Wells and her husband Paul, Shirley Jean Shotwell, and Carol Annette Breen and her husband Ralph. A companion Patricia Viktorin, his sisters Stella Marsh and Rosa May Berry and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, friends and family.

Edward will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. Visitation will be held Monday from 5-8pm at the Sterling Funeral Home, 602 N. Main St., Dayton. Funeral services will be held 10AM Tuesday at the funeral home, with burial to follow in Chapel of the Pines cemetery.

Whitmire

Oscar Nolan Whitmire, age 71, of Hardin, Texas, passed away Friday, March 6, 2009.

He was born in Magnolia Community, Texas on March 20, 1937 to Herbert E. and Vera E. Whitmire.

He is survived by his loving wife, Margie N. Whitmire; daughters, Cindy L. Durbin, Pattie S. Love, Penny A. Johnson; son, Lee E. Whitmire; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and other family cherished family members and treasured friends.

Visitation will be held Sunday, March 8, 2009, 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, Moss Hill, Texas. Funeral services will be held Monday, March 9, 2009, 2:00 p.m. at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church with interment at Moss Hill cemetery.

Theriot

Terri Lee Williams Theriot, 42, of Dayton, Texas died Wednesday, March 4, 2009 after a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born on May 2, 1966 in Cushing, Oklahoma to James Sherman and Patricia Lee Williams, Sr. Terri enjoyed cooking, hunting with her husband, or just floating down the river. Terri loved to be with her family more than anything else.

Terri is survived by her loving husband of 25 years, Russel Theriot; daughter, Tiffiny Guzmon and husband Alberto of Dayton; son, Joey Theriot and wife Shaena of Baytown; parents, Sherman and Pat Williams, Sr.; brothers, Mark Williams and wife Sharon of New Caney, John Williams and wife Michelle of Crosby, and James Williams, Jr. and wife Diane of Livingston; grandchildren, Hannah, Damien, and Laedon; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A visitation for family and friends will be Sunday, March 8th at Sterling Funeral Home from five until eight o’clock in the evening with a vigil service commencing at seven o’clock. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday at St. Anne’s Catholic Church at eleven o’clock in the morning with interment to follow in Eastgate Catholic cemetery. Friends and family may gather at the funeral home Monday at ten o’clock.

Zavoda

Dianne Marie Zavoda, 68, passed away on Tuesday, March 3, 2009 Dayton, TX.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 7th at 10 A.M at the Allison Funeral Service Chapel, 1101 North Travis, Liberty, TX.

Dianne was born in Cleveland, OH on March 25, 1940 to parents Joseph and Marie Bilovocky. She worked many years as a secretary in the machining and tooling industry. She was a very self-sacrificing mother who loved to sew, knit, and crochet. She loved the outdoors and taught horseback riding for twenty years.

Preceded in death by her parents, she is survived by her two children, David Zavoda of Dayton and Carol Jodzio and husband Ted of Atascocita; sister, Carol Rasimus and husband Ed. Grandchildren: Theodore Raymond Jodzio II and wife Ashley Marlene, Autumn Marie Jodzio, Jeremy Ryan Jodzio and wife Katie Nichole, Gavin Shea Jodzio and Kelen Travis Jodzio.

Arrangements were under the direction of Allison Funeral Service, 1101 North Travis Street, Liberty, Texas 77575 936-336-6418.

Louviere

Virginia Mae Louviere, 71, of Sour Lake, died Sunday March 1, 2009 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont.

A service of remembrance will be held Wednesday, March 4, 2009 at 10:00 A.M. At First Baptist Church of Sour Lake, with Reverend Ken Ellzey officiating interment will follow at Rosedale cemetery also in Sour Lake.

The family will be receiving friends today, Tuesday March 3, 2009 from 6:00 P.M. Until 8:00 P.M. also at the church.

A native of Beaumont, Virginia had lived in Sour Lake most of her life, she was retired Vice-President and Loan officer for Citizens Bank of Sour Lake where she worked for 48 years, also she worked as a clerk for Judge Kent Walker Pct.#4 of Sour Lake, she was past Treasurer for Crime Victim Assistance of Kountze and past officer of Region V Rodeo Association.

She was preceded in death by Brothers; George Robinson, Eddie Robinson, William ”Buddy” Allen, Steve ”Butch” Allen, Sister; Louise Trevino, Special Uncle; Y.D. Allen.

Survivors are Husband; Clarence Louviere of Sour Lake, Father and Stepmother; Steve and Elva Allen of Jourdaton, TX, Special Aunt; Ann Allen of Sour Lake. Daughters; Tina Box and husband Greg of Moss Hill, Jackie Louviere, Lindsey Louviere both of Beaumont. Sisters; Lois McGuire and husband Billy of Garrison, TX, Shirley Brannam and husband Ronnie of Bandera, TX. Grandchildren; Beau Box of New Orleans and Koby Box of Moss Hill. Memorial contributions may be to Crime Victim Assistance, P.O. Box 1412, Kountze, TX 77625.

Jordan

Anne Mureen Jordan, 57, of Saratoga, died Wednesday, March 4, 2009 at her residence.

A service of remembrance will be held Friday March 6, 2009 at 2:00 P.M. At First Baptist Church of Saratoga, with Reverend Frank Aragon officiating, interment will follow at Jordan cemetery of Batson.

The family will be receiving friends today Thursday March 5, 2009 from 4:00 P.M. Until 8:00 P.M. Also at the church.

A native of Port Arthur TX, she had lived in Saratoga for about 25 years.

Anne was a Teacher for West Hardin Independent School in Saratoga for twenty-plus years.

She is survived by her Husband; Olen Jordan of Saratoga, Sons; James Jordan and wife Michelle of Kountze, Jonathan Jordan of Saratoga. Daughters; Kathleen Jordan of Kountze, Mary Rodriguez and husband Isaac of Woodville, Sara Jordan of Huntsville. Brothers; Shon Castillo of Rye, Michael Castillo of Kingwood, Bryan Castillo of Iowa, David Castillo of Nederland. Sister; Lucy Winger of Kountze. Grandchildren; Tyler, Abygail, Aurora, Helen.

Zavoda

Dianne Marie Zavoda, 68, passed away on Tuesday, March 3, 2009 Dayton, TX.

Janacek

Elmer Janacek, 81, of Liberty, died Sunday, March 1, 2009, at his residence.

Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 4, 2009, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Liberty with burial following at the St. Anne’s Catholic cemetery in the Eastgate Community of Dayton. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., Tuesday, with wake services at 6 p.m., at the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.

Elmer was born July 6, 1927 in Ammonsville, to parents; Henry A. and Agnes Pratka Janacek, a former resident of the Eastgate Community, and has resided in the Liberty area for the past 58 years. He was a veteran of the US Army with service during WW II, a retired auto mechanic for Burnham Auto of Liberty, member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, and enjoyed reading, mechanics, and listening to shortwave radios.

Mr. Janacek was preceded in death by his parents and sister: Bernice Svoboda. He is survived by his wife of 58 years: Rose M. Glatter Janacek of Liberty, sons: Fred Janacek and wife Suzanne of Sour Lake, Victor Janacek and wife Rhonda of Baytown, and Kurt Janacek of Liberty, daughters: Juanita Worthy and husband Gene of Dripping Springs, Victoria Taylor of Batson, and Yvonne Ash and husband Bob of Magnolia, brothers: Benjamin F. Janacek of Leesburg, IN and Wilfred Janacek and wife Jeri of Richmond, 12 grandchildren: Aaron Worthy, Jake Janacek, Justen Taylor, Tyler Janacek, Cameron Janacek, Hunter Ash, Anna Worthy Guidry, Angie Janacek Domingues, Lacie Jaye Taylor, Ashley Worthy, Cydney Ash, Kaitlyn Ash, and Melanie Aube’ Worthy, one great-grandchild: Paxton Domingues, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

In lieu of usual floral remembrances, the family requests that donations be made to the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Elmer’s name.

Turner

Joyce E. Richardson Turner, 81, of Humble, Texas, died Friday, February 27, 2009. She was born on April 20, 1927 to Richard David Richardson, Jr. and Mary Oma (Parrish) Richardson in China, Texas. Joyce enjoyed working in her yard especially with her plants and flowers. She loved animals and always had a small dog. Above all, she loved spending time with her family.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, William Hubert Turner, second husband, Joseph Badders; brother, Richard David Richardson, Jr.; and grandchildren, Jana Kristin Turner and Christopher Kale Turner. She is survived by her sons, William “Bill” Turner and wife Jan of Dayton and Richard Turner and wife Dolly of Crosby; daughters, Markie Turner Grisham and husband Jeff of College Station and Sarah Turner Veach of Atascocita; fourteen grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and numerous more relatives and friends.

A visitation for family and friends will be from five until seven o’clock in the evening at Allison Funeral Service on Sunday, March 1st. A service of remembrance will be held at First Baptist Church in Liberty at two o’clock in the afternoon on Monday, March 2nd with interment to follow in Concord cemetery. Peak

Sylvia L. Campbell Peak, 82, of Liberty, died Saturday, February 28, 2009, at the Liberty-Dayton Community Hospital in Liberty.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 3, 2009, at the Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel with burial following at Fairlawn Memorial Park in Liberty. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., Monday, at the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.

Sylvia was born April 9, 1926 in Trinity County, to parents; Samuel H. and Reba Poe Campbell, and has resided in the Liberty area throughout her life. She was a homemaker, former cook for the Minimax Deli, and of Methodist faith. She also enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking, quilting, and watching birds and squirrels at her residence.

Mrs. Peak was preceded in death by her parents, husband: Julius M. “Buster” Peak, grandsons: James Peak, Jr. and David Peak, daughter-in-law: Betty Peak, son-in-law: Mike Key, four brothers, and three sisters. She is survived by her daughters: Margaret Bird and husband Mike of Hardin, Helen Gilbreath and husband James of Como, and Sissy Fregia of Liberty, son: James Peak of Liberty, brother: Reagan “Shorty” Campbell of Hardin, sister: Anna Bell Anderson of Tyler, 16 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, two great great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Powell

William Pinkin Powell, 85, of Hull died Friday, February 27, 2009 at Memorial Hermann Baptist Hospital of Beaumont.

Funeral service was held Monday March 2, 2009 at 2:00 P.M. At Lighthouse church of Moss Hill, with Reverend Allen Owens officiating, interment followed at Guedry cemetery of Batson.

A gathering was held Sunday March 1, 2009 also at the church. Born in Hugo Oklahoma William was a Production Foremen with Texaco Refinery and a proud WWII U.S. Navy Veteran.

He is survived by his loving wife; Louise LeNormand Powell of Hull, Sons; Perry Powell and wife Julie of Batson, Terry Powell and wife Joyce of Liberty, Phill Powell and wife Rhonda of Old River. Daughter; Mary Taylor and husband Nelson of Hull, Sister; Ethel”Shine” LeNormand of Hull. Grandchildren; Kim, William, Terry Jr, Amy, Delanie, Bubba, Darren, Jeffery, Taylor. Great grandchildren. 12.

Nugent

Emma Delores (Berryhill) Nugent, 78, of Liberty, Texas, died Thursday, February 26, 2009. She was born on July 24, 1930 to Ernest and Zelma (Fregia) Berryhill in Liberty, Texas.

Emma loved to spend time in the yard with her flowers. She will be deeply missed by all that knew her.

Emma is preceded in death by her parents; husband, J.W. Nugent; brothers, Ernest Berryhill and Jim Berryhill; and sister, Christine Taylor. She is survived by her daughters, Donna Jean Nugent and husband Allen of Liberty and Helen Bush Vanya and husband Patrick of Hardin; son, Artty Gore, Jr. of Spurger; grandchildren, Ashley Sims and husband Jeremiah, April Bush, Johnathan Bush, Michael Nugent and wife Tiffany Plant, Ronnie Nugent, Kyle Gore, and William Gore; great-grandchild, Bayliegh; and numerous more relatives and friends.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from six until eight o’clock in the evening Friday, February 27th at Sterling Funeral Home. A service of remembrance will be held at Sterling Funeral Home on Saturday, February 28th at eleven o’clock in the morning with interment to follow in Monroe Fregia cemetery

Harris

Retired Lieutenant USNR Richard Stanley Harris, born August 5, 1924, died February 24, 2009 in Temple, Texas.

He leaves behind a loving family and is survived by his former wife Audree Bohm; two sons: Keith Sanderson Harris and wife Michelle, of Vancouver, Washington, and Jeffrey Todd Harris and wife Jackie of Bluff Dale, Texas. He is also survived by four daughters: Stephanie Ann Harris of Pflugerville, TX; Audree Reneé Harris Stavroff and husband Steve of Spring, Texas; Kimberly Dee Harris of Lake Charles, Louisiana; and Desiree Harris Mallett and her husband Matt of Spring, Texas. He has eight grandchildren: Adrienne Rachelle Pluss; David Michael Pluss and his wife Nohemi; Brandon Scott Harris; Kallie Denise Weeks; Melanie Paige Weeks Speyrer and her husband Mark; Jeffrey Todd Harris Jr.; Jonathan Taylor Harris; and Janeclaire Ada Harris; and four great grandchildren: Kaden Scott Harris, Michael Keith Lee, Malorie Paige-Lynn Speyrer, and Raylin Jordan Harris. His brother Frank McGruder and sister Joann Platte also survive him in Aurora, Colorado.

He is preceded in death by his mother Hazel Kimble Harris Stewart, father Hugh Aubrey Harris, daughter Denise Lee Harris, and grandson John Harris Stavroff.

He was born in Des Moines, Iowa, on August 5, 1924, and grew up in Denver, Colorado. He joined the Navy at age 17 and served as a Navy pilot. He fought in both the Pacific Theater of World War II and the Korean War. He was honored with numerous medals and other decorations. He served as a pilot instructor in Pensacola until 1955 and retired from military duty. His love for flying prompted him to own and operate the “Flying H” Crop Dusting Service in Dayton, Texas. He and his family were residents of Dayton for thirteen years. He later flew as a corporate pilot, followed by careers in the construction and real estate industries. He worked for the last seven years as a rental car driver for Avis.

He loved woodworking, building, and other crafts. He is known for his sense of humor, ability to make friends, and his talent for telling a good story. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and co-workers.

Special thanks from the family goes to the medical staff at the VA Center in Temple, Texas, for their loving, gentle care; his many friends at Avis; and to Providence Presbyterian Church in Pflugerville for their continuous support.

Funeral Services: All Faiths Funeral Services, 8507 North IH-35, Austin, Texas. Visitation on Thursday, February 26, 2009 from 6 to 8 pm; Services on Friday, February 27 at 2 pm. Interment : Magnolia Park cemetery in Dayton, Texas, at 2 pm. Local arrangements are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home.

In lieu of traditional remembrances, please make donations of service or money to Providence Presbyterian Church in Pflugerville; the VA Center in Temple, Texas; or your favorite charity.
