Tamiggi

Frank David Tamiggi, 88, of Kenefick, died Tuesday, February 24, 2009 in Liberty, after an extended illness.

He was born March 14, 1920 to parents: David and Mary Scarpetti Tamiggi in Charleroi, Pennsylvania.

He moved to this area in 1980 from West Virginia and had been an employee of National Steel where he was a member of the 25 Year Club. Tamiggi was a member of the Life Fellowship Church in Liberty. He enjoyed his church activities, his tractor, fishing, gardening, watching TV and playing cards with his grandchildren.

Services for Mr. Tamiggi will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, February 28, 2009 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Frank Davis officiating. Interment will follow at Magnolia Park cemetery. Visitation for Mr. Tamiggi will be 5:00 to 9:00 p.m., Friday evening at the funeral home.

He was preceded in death by his father: David Tamiggi; his mother: Mary Scarpetti La Presta; his son; David Lee Tamiggi; his sisters: Sara Licata and Carmella Slusarek; and his brothers: Nat Tamiggi and Tony Tamiggi. He is survived by his wife of 59 years: Velma Springer Tamiggi of Kenefick; his daughters: Pauline Bond and husband J.T. of Kenefick and Barbara Foster and husband Jim of Boise, ID; four grandchildren: Aaron Bond, Jolene Carter, Patrick Tamiggi, and Amanda Tamiggi. One great-grandson: Luke Alexander John; his niece: Phyllis and his nephew: Tony; also numerous other relatives and friends.

Jackson

Guy Cade Jackson III, died February 23, 2009 in Anahuac, Texas. He was 77 years of age. He was born August 16, 1931, in San Antonio, Texas.

Guy was the son of the late Guy Cade Jackson, Jr. and the late Katherine Cook Jackson. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Linda Cummins Jackson and children Guy Robert of Anahuac; Linda Ann of Anahuac; Steven Lynn of San Antonio; grandson Aidan Patrick Jackson of San Antonio; brother, James Robert Jackson of Beach City, Texas. Guy is preceded in death by his sister, Laura Jackson Howe of Kerrville, Texas.

Guy was married November 24, 1961 to the former Linda M. Cummins, daughter of late Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Cummins, Sr. of Hamshire, Texas.

A graduate, Anahuac High School, 1948; Texas A&M, May 1952 (BBA); University of Texas School of Law, January 1958 (LLB now JD). He was a Member Ross Volunteers and Sophomore Class Officer at Texas A&M; Member Delta Theta Phi Legal Fraternity, University of Texas; Recipient of 1957 Hildy's Cutback Award, University of Texas School of Law. Admitted to practice before Supreme Court of Texas; U. S. District Courts for Southern and Eastern Districts of Texas; U. S. 5th Circuit Court of Appeals and the United States Supreme Court. Guy was a sole practitioner in Anahuac, Texas; CEO and owner of Chambers County Abstract Company, Inc. Owner of County Cross Check, Inc.

Guy was the President, Chambers County Bar Association, 1974 to 1992; Secretary, Chambers County Bar Association, 1992 to present; past President, Chambers-Liberty Counties Bar Association; Member, State Bar of Texas; Former Member, Continuing Legal Education Committee, State Bar of Texas, 1985-1987.

Guy was a former Member, State Bar, District 3, Committee on Admissions; member, Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association.

Former Director, East Texas Legal Services Corporation.

2008 Recipient, Fifty Years Membership Award, State Bar of Texas.

He was member of, American Land Title Association; Texas Land Title Association; Texas Association of Abstractors and Title Agents; Greater Houston Land Title Association; President 1994-95; Rates & Rules Committee, TLTA; TLTA Rates & Rules Committee; Legislative Committee.

He was an independent Real Estate Broker since 1955; Charter Member of, Chambers County Board of Realtors; member of, Texas Association of Realtors; member, National Association of Realtors.

He was a past member of, Anahuac Independent School District - District Education Improvement Committee.

Guy was a past Chairman and Past Secretary, Chambers County Democratic Executive Committee; secretary, Texas Democratic County Chairs Association; member of the State Democratic Executive Committee (SDEC), Senate District 4, 1992 to 1998.

He was the director and Board Secretary, Chambers County Appraisal District, 1988 – 1991.

Guy was the former County Judge, Chambers County, 1976-77; secretary of State Inspector of Elections, 1975-76; member of, Lieutenant Governor's Citizens Conference on Ethics, 1973.

Guy was a retired Lieutenant Colonel (Army) following 23 years of active and reserve service, including two active duty tours with principal assignments in Operations and Intelligence. Awards include Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Korean Service Medal; a past President, National Guard Association of Texas; a Life Member, Veterans of Foreign Wars; a Life Member and Past Commander, American Legion Post #104, Anahuac, Texas. He was a former member of, Regional Health Planning Advisory Committee (RHPAC), Houston-Galveston Area Council; Health Systems Agency (HSA), Houston-Galveston Area Council; Trustee and Board Secretary, Chambers County Public Hospital District No. 1, 1984-1989.

Guy was a past Chairman (10 years), Chambers County Historical Commission.

He was a member of the Sons of the Republic of Texas.

Guy was a member of the Lieutenant Governor's Water Resources Council, 1974-75; Board of Directors, Trinity River Authority of Texas 1967-1976.

Guy was a past member, Executive Committee and Basin Planning Committee, Trinity River Authority Board of Directors.

He was a former Director, Texas Water Conservation Association.

He was a member of, H-GAC Gulf Coast Basin Assessment Steering Committee (S.B. 818 Water Quality Study); Chairman, San Jacinto River Basin and Trinity-San Jacinto Coastal Basin Assessment Group; and member San Jacinto-Brazos Coastal Basin Assessment Group; Long Range Planning Group; Trinity River Authority, Basin Assessment Steering Committee, H.B. 818; Galveston Bay Inflows Study Group.

Guy was the chair of, Special Hearing Committee, Chambers-Liberty Counties Navigation District and a member of Chambers-Liberty Counties Navigation District

He was the Executive Secretary, Coastal Oyster Leaseholders Association and a member of the Interstate Shellfish Sanitation Conference.

Guy was a member, Past Conference Delegate, Past Administrative Chairman, Past Lay Leader, First United Methodist Church, Anahuac, Texas.

He was the past Master, Anahuac Lodge No. 995 and Old River Lodge No. 1442, A.F. & A.M., Anahuac and Mont Belvieu, Texas.

Guy was a member of Scottish Rite Bodies of Galveston and El Mina Shrine, Galveston; York Rite Bodies, Dayton and Baytown, Texas; Texas Lodge of Research; California Lodge of Research; William Taylor Chapter, The Philathes Society.

He was Past District Deputy Grand Master, Masonic District 107, 1984-1985; 1996 Recipient, "Golden Trowel" Award, Anahuac Lodge #995; and 2008 Recipient, Fifty Year Service Award, Grand Lodge of Texas.

A visitation for family and friends will be from five until eight o’clock in the evening on Wednesday, February 25 at Sterling Funeral Home in Anahuac. A service of remembrance will be held at two o’clock in the afternoon, Thursday, February 26 at First United Methodist Church of Anahuac with Rev. Randy Carrion and Rev. John Black officiating. Interment will follow in Jackson cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to, Chambers County Library System, American Legion Post 104, or the First United Methodist Church of Anahuac. Arrangements for Guy have been entrusted to Sterling Funeral Home 1201 S Main St Anahuac, Texas 77514. 409.267.3456.

Lambright

Betty Joyce Lambright, 72, of Kenefick, died Sunday February 22, 2009 at home. She was born April 5, 1936 in Austin, Texas, to parents: Louis and Mary Frances Richardson Harvey. She had lived in Kenefick since 1969 after moving from Houston. Mrs. Lambright was an active member of the Kenefick Southern Baptist Church where she had served as director of the Vacation Bible School. She was also a member of Circle Friends, Kenefick Civic Center, Bereavement Committees, and the past president of the Activity Club. She was well known for her love of antiques. She enjoyed traveling and reading.

Memorial Service for Mrs. Lambright will be 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 25, 2009 at the Kenefick Southern Baptist Church with Rev. Jeff Day officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home.

Mrs. Lambright was preceded in death by her father: Louis Harvey and her mother: Mary Frances Richardson Martin; her husband of 49 years: Delma “SonDaddy” Lambright; and her son: Delma Glen Lambright.

She is survived by her son: Paul Nolan Lambright and wife Penny of Austin; her daughters: Stacy Lynn Newcomb and husband Billy of Crosby; and Paula Jeanette Cain and husband David of Batson; her grandchildren: Tracy G. Lambright, Jeff Lambright, Amanda Lambright, Justin Lambright, Andrew Cain, Jennifer Cain, Phillip Cain, Leah Cain, Rachel Cain, Rebecca Cain, Anna Cain, Austin Lambright, Sara Lambright, Casey Newcomb, and Ray Newcomb; her aunt: Winnie Metcalf; also numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Orebo

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Wallace James “Big Cat” Orebo, 71, of Beaumont, Texas, on Saturday, February 28, 2009 at 10:00 A.M. at Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church, 3390 Sarah Street, Beaumont, Texas, with the Rev. Father Henry Davis, SSJ, celebrant, with burial in Anthony cemetery.

A native of Hardin, Texas he attended public school he attended school at Blessed Sacrament in Beaumont. He worked construction most of his life. He passed away Wednesday February 18, 2009 in Baytown.

Visitation will be held Saturday 8:00 A.M. until time of service at the church.

He is survived by two sons: Wallace Orebo, Jr. of Baytown, and Wally Orebo of Beaumont; three daughters: Sherrine Orebo Deshotel and Donna Orebo Robinson, both of Dayton, and Monique Hebert of Victoria, Texas; two brothers: Daniel Orebo of Beaumont, and William Orebo, of Liberty, Texas; three sisters: Lauraline Orebo Guidry of Lake Charles, Louisiana, Carolyn Orebo Antwine and Carrie Orebo Benoit, both to Beaumont, Texas; twelve grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

Aalund

Paul W. Aalund, 71 years old, died February 24, 2009 in Liberty, Texas, after a lengthy and courageous battle with brain cancer.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, February 25, 2009 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at the Allison Funeral Home at 1101 N. Travis in Liberty, TX, with a Rosary service to be celebrated at 6:30 pm. A funeral mass will be celebrated Thursday, February 26, 2009 at 10:00 am at Immaculate Conception Church in Liberty, TX. A reception will follow the mass in the parish hall. An inurnment will be held at the VA Houston National cemetery at a later date.

Born in Houston, Paul enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1955 and served until 1959. Two years after his honorable discharge from the Air Force, he graduated from the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) academy in Austin, TX in May 1962. He was assigned to the Drivers License office in Houston for three years before transferring to Liberty, TX as a Highway Patrolman. He retired from the DPS in 1993 after almost 32 years of service. Slim, over 6 feet tall and wearing his western trooper hat and a ready smile, he in some ways personified a Texas state trooper.

As an airman while based at Wurtsmith Air Force Base in Oscoda, Michigan, on Lake Huron he met his wife-to-be, Rita, from nearby Alpena, Michigan.

Though Paul was born and grew up practically in the heart of Houston in the Heights area, his family roots stretched far and wide. His mother, Helen Downing Aalund, was born in Seattle, Washington and grew up in Cardova, Alaska. His father, Einer, was born in Denmark.

An avid salt-water fisherman, Paul enjoyed fishing in Galveston Bay as often as he could. His ashes will be interred at the Veterans Memorial cemetery in Houston, TX where his younger brother, James Downing Aalund, was buried after being killed in active duty during the Vietnam war.

Paul is survived by his wife Rita, sister Karen Harrison, and his children, Tony, wife Peggy, their children, Rob, Becky Rex and Troy; Mike, wife Traci, their children, Alexandra and Danielle; Scott, wife Stephanie, their children, Madison and Max; and Christy Lunn, husband Brandon and their children, Peri and Zachary. Paul also has four great grandchildren.

Aiken

Betty Lou Aiken, 74, of Cleveland, Texas, died Monday, February 23, 2009.

Betty was born on January 24, 1935 to parents, Nathan Carl Rush and Lilly Ann Morris Rush.

Visitation will be Thursday, February 26, 2009 from 10AM until 11AM at Sterling Funeral Home, Dayton, Texas. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM at the funeral home. Burial will be in Palms Memorial Park cemetery, Dayton, Texas.

Betty was a homemaker who cared about her family.

She is preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Nathan Emmett Rush, one sister, Mary Etta Moreland, and her ex-husband James Aiken.

Betty is survived by her son, James Ronald Aiken, two brothers, Jerry Rush and wife Doris, Joe Rush and wife Silvia, two sisters, Shirley Ann Morris, Earlene Maux and numerous other relatives and friends.

Arrangements were under the direction of Sterling Funeral Home 602 N. Main St., Dayton, Texas.

Rhodes

Linnie Jo Rhodes, 50, of Pasadena, died Thursday, February 19, 2009, in Livingston.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, February 26, 2009, the Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel with burial following at a later date. Services are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.

Linnie Jo was born April 20, 1958 in Dayton, to parents; Curtis and Doris “Sue” Craig Rhodes. She was a homemaker, graduate of the Deer Park High School, and enjoyed gardening and interior decorating.

Mrs. Rhodes was preceded in death by her father: Curtis Rhodes, son: Justin Griffin, and husband: Clif Griffin. She is survived by her sons: Nicholas T. Betros of WA and Timothy R. Betros of Deer Park, daughter: Whitney M. Betros of Pasadena, grandson: Andrew J. Monroe of Pasadena, mother: Doris “Sue” Rhodes of Pasadena, sister: Susan G. Jack of Deer Park, brother: Curtis “Dusty” Rhodes of Deer Park, four nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Bridges

William “Bill” Elee Bridges, 64, of Kenefick, died Wednesday, February 18, 2009 at home after an extended illness. He was born October 11, 1944 in Oak Groove, Louisiana to parents: Oliver Cabe Bridges, Jr. and Mary Marie Sasnett Bridges. He has been a resident of Kenefick since 1979 previously of the Channelview area. Mr. Bridges was owner and operator of the Cypress Creek Construction in Kenefick. He was a true workaholic, enjoyed welding, riding motorcycles and loved being with his family and friends.

Services for Mr. Bridges will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 21, 2009 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow at Bridges Family cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00 to 9:00 p.m., Friday evening at the Funeral Home. Pallbearers are Bill Bridges, Jr., Wayne Cryer, Jeffery Sims, Monty Lawson, Elton Carter, III, and Robert McKinney.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; his grandson: Randy Platson; his sisters: Loraine Hebert and Mary Edwards; his brother: David Wayne Bridges. He is survived by his wife: Marilyn Bridges of Dayton; His daughters: Selena Cryer and husband Wayne of Wagner, Oklahoma, Shauna Bridges of Dayton and Casey Bridges of Dayton; his sons: William E. Bridges Jr., of Dayton and Sunshine Bridges and wife Cindy of Channelview; six grandchildren: Amy, Summer, Kaylee, Seth, Scotty, and Heather; two great-grandchildren: Tristan and Trent Juarez; his brothers: James Bridges, Rank Bridges, Ernie Bridges, Frank Bridges, and Horace Bridges; his sisters: Shirley Duvall and Judy Bingham.

Nelson

Autry Allen Nelson, age 69, of Conroe, Texas, died Friday, February 20, 2009 at Triumph Northwest Hospital in Houston. He was born in Livingston, Texas, on November 16, 1939 to Dewey and Ruby Nelson who preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife, Adell Nelson; two daughters, Sherry Owens and husband, David; Brenda Buchanan and husband, Brent; four sons, Roy Nelson and wife, Jana, Joe Nelson and wife, Vicki, Benny Law and wife, Carol, Buddy Ridings and wife, Debra; two sisters, Margaret Phillips and husband, David, Alice Baxley; two brothers, Ray Nelson and wife, Carolynn, Gene Nelson and wife, Juanita; ten grandkids and eleven great-grandkids with many other cherished family members and treasured friends throughout the years.

Visitation will begin Sunday, February 22, 2009, 5:00 – 9:00 p.m. at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home, Cleveland, Texas. Funeral services will be held Monday, February 23, 2009, 1:00 p.m. at Pace-Stancil Chapel. Pallbearers, Roy Nelson, B.J. White, Benny Law, Bobby Joe Ridings, Brent Buchanan, Brian White, and Clint Griswold will escort him to his final resting place at Peebles cemetery, Goodrich, Texas.

Godfrey

Funeral service for The Reverend Caral Godfrey, 85, of Anahuac, Texas, will be held Saturday, February 21, 2009 at First Missionary Baptist Church, Anahuac at 2:00 P.M. with the Reverend Peter Singleton, officiating, and the Reverend Darius Thomas, eulogist, with burial in Godfrey cemetery, Wallisville, Texas.

A native of Anahuac, he was former pastor of The Bright Light Baptist Church in Anahuac and the Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Double Bayou. He was a veteran of the United States Army and also an employee for the Department of Transportation.

He died Monday, February 16, 2009 at Bayside Hospital in Anahuac after an illness.

Visitation will be held Saturday from 12:00 noon until time of service at the church.

He is survived by one sister: Mary Godfrey of Houston, two brothers: Clarence Godfrey and Floyd Godfrey, Jr. of Wallisville, seven children: Evelyn Mason, Shirley Ford, Priscilla Blue, Cynthia Ratcliff, Lisa Carrington, Tommy King, and Horace Ray King, nineteen grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
