Smith

Funeral services for Johnnie Lois Simon Smith, 63, of Liberty, was held Saturday, January 31, 2009, at 3:00 P.M. at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness, Liberty with burial in Wells Memorial cemetery.

A native of Palacios, Texas, she was a member of Jehovah’s Witness. A graduate of West Liberty High School.

Mrs. Smith died January 28, at her residence.

Visitation was held Saturday, January 31, at the funeral home from 10:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M.

She is survived by her husband, Ross W. Smith of Liberty, one son: Jeffery Shannon Smith of Houston; two daughters: Tylon LaRoss Smith of Houston and Carla Tenille Arceneaux of Baytown; five brothers: Johnny Lee “Butch” Simon of Ames, Robert Simon of New York City, NY., Harold Simon and John Dorsey of Liberty, Claudie Ray Dorsey of Palm Springs, CA., three sisters: Lillie Brown of Liberty, Carol Caldwell of Houston, Dorothy Gail Cobb of New Iberia, LA, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Sandles

Funeral service for Marie “Dot” Sandles, 76, of Dayton, Texas will be held Wednesday, February 4, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, Dayton, with the Reverend Emery Maxwell, III, officiating, with burial in Wells Memorial cemetery.

A native of Madisonville, Texas, she was a deaconess and a member of the choir at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church.

She die Thursday, January 29, 2009 at Triumph Hospital of Northwest Houston after an illness.

Visitation will be held Wednesday morning 9A.M until time of service at the church.

She is survived by her husband John “Jack” Sandles, Sr., of Dayton; four sons: Sam Henry Sandles, Tony Edwards Sandles and Terry Wayne Sandles all of Dayton and John W. Sandles, Jr. of Houston; five daughters: Mary Lou Johnson, Theresa Ann Sandles, and Glenda Jones, all of Houston, Gloria Armstrong of Prairie View, Texas and Christina Sandles of Dayton, Texas; one brother: Roy Grant of Houston, Texas and a host of other relatives and friends.

Barnett

James I. Barnett, 81, of Crosby, died Saturday, January 31, 2009, at the San Jacinto Methodist Hospital in Baytown.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, February 5, 2009, at the Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel with burial following at a later date. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., Wednesday, at the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.

James was born November 27, 1927, in Carlisle, to parents; Issac Lambert and Nancy A. Hilton Barnett, a former resident of Baytown, and has resided in the Crosby area for the past 52 years. He was a veteran of the US Army Air Corps with service during WW II, a retired forklift operator from Amsco of Houston, and enjoyed his yard and tinkering.

Mr. Barnett was preceded in death by his parents, son: James Franklin Barnett, grandson: Jeremy Barnett, one brother, and three sisters. He is survived by his wife of 58 years: Erma L. Hilton Barnett of Crosby, sons: Ronald Barnett and wife Daisy of Pasadena and Arnold Barnett and wife Cindy of Chowchilla, CA, daughters: Linda Sutton and husband Terry of Van Buren, AR, Glenda Howe and husband Jerry of Highlands, and Connie Barnett of Van Buren, AR, eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Beasley

Clovis Anna Beasley, 84, a beloved mother and grandmother, died Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2009.

Funeral: 2 p.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church in Point, TX.

Interment: Lone Star cemetery in Point.

Visitation: The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Wade Family Funeral Home, 4140 W. Pioneer Parkway, Arlington. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

She was born Aug. 6, 1924, to Oscar and Maggie Harlan in Point. She was a 45-year breast cancer survivor. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters. Survivors: Daughter, Sherry Nowell and husband, Glenn; grandsons, Eric and Casey; and great-granddaughter, Chloe, all of Arlington.

Sisco

Jimmie “Jim” Lee Sisco, 62, of Liberty, died Friday, January 30, 2009 in Beaumont, after an extended illness. He was born June 30, 1946 in McAllister, Oklahoma to parents: Leroy “Bill” and Gracie Barton Sisco. He had lived in this area since 1987 and had worked for Ramsey Grass Farm for over 10 years. Jim loved his grandchildren, enjoyed his dog and guitar.

Graveside service will be 3:00 p.m., Monday, February 2, 2009 at Hardin Chapel cemetery with Rev. Harold Davis officiating. Visitation will be Monday, 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home before the service.

Mr. Sisco was preceded in death by his parents, his grandson: Isaiah Harmon and granddaughter: Jasmyne Cole. He is survived by: his wife of 16 years: Elaine Dagle Sisco of Liberty; his daughter: Jenniffer Sisco and Tonia Blanton of Liberty; his daughter: Christie Mixon and Quincy of Dayton; his son: Timothy Sisco and Stacy of Porter; his six grandchildren: Devon Harmon, Branden Webb, Madyson Cole, Isaiah Mixon, Quin Mixon, and Paris Mixon; his brother: Larry Sisco and Cindy of Mont Belvieu; his sister: Linda McQuiston of Austin; five nieces and nephews; a friend: Ike Keaton of Liberty and his dog: Pennie.

Redmond

Funeral services for Ola B. Redmond, 78, of Liberty, will be held Saturday, January 31, 2009, at 11:00 A.M. at Turkey Creek Baptist Church, Liberty with the Rev. Paul E. Cross, Sr., officiating with burial in Wells Memorial cemetery.

A native of Liberty, she was a nurse, a graduate of Liberty Training High School and a deaconess of Turkey Creek Baptist Church. She was a volunteer worker for the Spirit of Sharing here in Liberty.

She died Saturday, January 24, 2009 at Liberty-Dayton Hospital.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 A.M. until time of service at the church.

She is survived by three sons: Maurice Redmond, Jr., Donald Redmond, and Donald Ray Redmond, Jr. all of Liberty, Texas; one sister: Dorothy Tutt of Baytown, Texas and a host of other relatives and friends.

Parrish

Clara K. Hunt Parrish, 87, of Crosby, died Tuesday, January 27, 2009, at the Triumph Hospital in Baytown.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 31, 2009, at the Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel in Dayton, with graveside services at 2:00 p.m., at the Cedar Grove cemetery in Trinity. Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m., Friday, at the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.

Clara was born December 11, 1921 in Chadbourn, NC to parents; Henry Clifford and Letha May Nobles Hunt, a former resident of Dayton, and has resided in Crosby for the past four years. She was a retired clerk from the Kroger grocery in Huntsville, and member of the Highlands Church of Christ. She also enjoyed sewing, cooking, and gardening.

Mrs. Parrish was preceded in death by her parents, husband: Leon Charles Parrish, granddaughter: Jessica Ann Canady, sisters: Molly Berneice Kalles, Ethel Mae Hunt, and Ruby Mae Mongonia, and brothers: Elmer and Henry Clifford Hunt, Jr. She is survived by her sons: Harry B. Canady and wife Delilah of Crosby and Grover Canady of Canada, sisters: Anna Ruth Edwards of Lexington, SC, Joyce Josephine Bellamy of Myrtle Beach, SC, Eula Fay Palmeri of Houston, Nina Lee Kirby of Lexington, SC and Patsy Clifford Hinson of Whiteville, NC, brothers: Rushie Hunt of Crosby, Ruie Hunt of Humble, and Billie Hunt of Charleston, NC, eight grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Williams

A Mass of Christian Burial for Raymond “Red” Williams Sr., 74, of Raywood, Texas, will be held Saturday, January 31, 2009 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Raywood, at 10 A.M with burial in Sacred Heart Catholic cemetery.

A native of Liberty, he graduated Woodson High School in Raywood. “Red” was a self-employed carpenter.

He died Sunday, January 25, 2009 at St. Luke Hospital in Houston.

Visitation will start at 8:00 A. M. at the church. Raymond is survived by two sons: Raymond Michael Williams, Jr., of Sacramento, California and Joseph Raymond Domain of Raywood, Texas; one daughter: Monique Coile of Baytown, Texas; one brother: Albert Williams, Jr., of Beaumont, Texas; five sisters: Virgie Boutte of Raywood, Texas, Shirley Biley of Ocoville, California, Mildred Caudillo of Long Beach, California, Jean Dorsey of Houston, Texas and Germaine Strawder also of Houston, Texas and a host of other relatives and friends.

McLain

Frankie Lou McLain, 67, of Hardin, Texas, died Sunday, January 25, 2009. He was born on October 29, 1941 to Joe Rogers and Ella Novaline McLain. Frankie served in the United States Marines for twenty years before retiring as a Staff Sergeant in 1980. He was injured in action during his first tour in Vietnam but that didn’t stop him from completing a second tour of duty. He later worked on tug boats as a tanker man. He enjoyed working, and was a hard worker.

Frankie was preceded in death by his parents and granddaughter, Chelsea Rose McLain. He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Sharon McLain; son, Troy McLain of Hardin; daughter, Sheryl Abshier and husband Earl of Hardin; brother, Roger McLain and wife Joyce of Onalaska; grandchildren, Tabatha Hargraves and husband Jason of Hardin, Shonna Kent and fiancé Nick Soileau of Conroe, and Joshua Kent of Hardin; great-grandchildren, Tori Hargraves and Blake Morace; and numerous more other relatives and close friends.

A visitation for family and friends will be at Sterling Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 28th from five until eight o’clock in the evening. A service of remembrance will be held at two o’clock in the afternoon Thursday, January 29th at Sterling Funeral Home with interment to follow in Hardin cemetery. Services for Frankie have been entrusted to Sterling Funeral Home, 602 N Main, Dayton, Texas 77535. 936.258.2678.

Waugh

Alexander Waugh, Jr. died 10 days after his 85th birthday on Monday, January 26, 2009.

Mr. Waugh was preceded in death by his parents, Alexander Waugh Sr. and Lucille Booth Waugh. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Barbara Rich Waugh, and his daughters: JoAnne Waugh Hyde of the Woodlands, TX; Janet Waugh Hyde of Houston, TX; Julie Waugh and her husband George Donaldson of Berkley, CA; and Jean Waugh Randazzo of Los Angeles, CA. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren: Jonathan, Sarah, Anna and Stephen Hyde; Alexis and Evan Hyde; Patrick, Laura and James Donaldson; and Alex and Madeline Randazzo.

Mr. Waugh was born in Bastrop, TX, on January 16, 1924. He attended Bastrop public schools and graduated from Schreiner Institute in Kerrville, TX. He graduated from the University of Texas after serving in the U.S. Navy from 1943-1945.

On September 3, 1946, he married Barbara Rich of Liberty, TX. The Waughs lived in Liberty for more than 50 years where Alex worked with his father-in-law, J.M. Rich, as a rice farmer and cattleman. Mr. Waugh served as a city councilman for 8 years, and Precinct chairman for the Democratic Party, Precinct 5. He was a member of Liberty Lodge #48 AF & AM. He served the lodge in Liberty as Master, one of his most cherished goals in life. He was a member and past president of the Liberty Rotary Club and a charter member and past president of the Magnolia Ridge Country Club in Liberty.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00pm, Thursday, January 29, 2009 at the First Methodist Church in Liberty, TX. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the First Methodist Church in Liberty or to the charity of your choice. Arrangements are under the direction of Allison Funeral Service, 1101 N. Travis St., Liberty, Texas.

Antoine

Funeral Service for Bwyna Antoine, 52, of Houston, Texas, will be held Saturday, January 24, 2009 at Berean Tabernacle Baptist Church, Liberty, Rev. Hurley Clayton, Pastor, at 11 A.M. with Reverend Elijah Thomas, officiating with burial in Wells Memorial cemetery.

A native of Dayton, she attend public school in Dayton. She was a member of New Faith Unity Baptist Church in Houston under the leadership of Rev. Elijah Thomas, Jr. She enjoyed singing and therefore joined the church choir to sing for the Lord. On October 24, 2004 Bwyna and William James Gaynor were wed in Holy Matrimony.

Visitation will be held at the church from 9 A.M. until time of service.

She leaves to cherish her memory: her husband, one daughter: Tasha Antoine; siblings: Genivia Tones, Ricky Antoine, both of Houston, Brenda Releford of Beaumont, Tommy Cuba, of Opelousas, Louisiana, Eva Brown, of Dayton, Joyce Lyons of Baytown, Willie Mae Stevens of Opelousas, Louisiana, Michael Antoine of Houston and a host of other relatives and friends.

Rogers

Mattie Lorraine Rogers, age 93, died Thursday, January 22, 2009 in Houston.

She was born March 3, 1915 in Westfield, Texas, the daughter of the late George and Benita Evans.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years Joseph Rogers Jr., sons Larry Rogers and David Rogers, and a son-in-law Stephen McComas, as well as six brothers and sisters.

She leaves behind her son Paul Rogers III and a daughter Betty McComas, sixteen grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, and 33 great-great grandchildren.

Mattie and her husband were in the ministry for over 30 years, ministering in the Anahuac nursing home and jail as well as made several trips out of the county. Mattie was actively teaching bible studies up until her death. She was dedicated to teach and help others to learn about the lord that she loved so much.

Visitation will be held Sunday, January 25, 2009 from 5-8pm at the Sterling Funeral Home, 602 N. Main St. Dayton, Texas.

Funeral Services to be held 11AM Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. Eddie Shauberger to officiate. Burial to take place in Forest Lawn cemetery, 8701 Almeda - Genoa Rd. Houston, Texas.

Vanderpool

Janice “Jan” Carrol Upchurch Vanderpool, 55, of Liberty, died Friday, January 23, 2009 in Winnie after an extended illness. She was born July 12, 1953 in San Antonio, Texas to parents: James Upchurch and Mary Berderka Upchurch. She was a lifelong resident of this area and a member of the Baptist Church. Mrs. Vanderpool enjoyed reading and doing crafts.

Graveside Services will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, January 26, 2009 at Cooke cemetery with Rev. Herman Moor officiating. Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Sunday at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home.

Mrs. Vanderpool was preceded in death by her daughter Connie Lynn Vanderpool and her parents: James Upchurch, Mary and Jerry Gray. She is survived by her daughter: Tammie Santa Cruz and husband Dominic of New Hampshire; her son Paul “Bubba” Vanderpool and wife Theresa of Liberty; her step-mother: Marie Upchurch of San Antonio; her brothers: David Upchurch of Billings, Montana, and Carl Upchurch of Houston; her sister: Evelyn Upchurch of Austin; three grandchildren; also numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Fillingim

Cleva Youngblood Fillingim was born on April 7, 1913 to Leticia Baker Youngblood and James Simon Youngblood near Groveton, Texas.

Cleva died on Wednesday, January 21, 2009 in Beaumont, Texas, at the age of 95.

Cleva married Harold Vaughan Fillingim and they made their home outside of Saratoga. After her husband’s death and her retirement she moved to Saratoga to be closer to her friend. She was a proud member of First Baptist Church of Saratoga for many years. Cleva also enjoyed working in her yard and with flowers.

Cleva was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, her sister Lois Hunt, her nephews Ray Hunt, Wayne Hilton, and James Hilton.

She is survived by her sister, Reba Hilton of Houston, her niece, Norma O’Neal of Conroe, many great-nieces and nephews and friends. She will be missed by everyone whose life she touched with her unconditional love. She has left a legacy of grace and kindness.

The family extends special thanks to her church family for their care and support in making her final years happy ones.

The family will receive friends at First Baptist Church of Saratoga Friday, January 23, 2009 from 5:00 P.M. Until 8:00 P.M. Funeral service will be held Saturday January 24, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. At First Baptist Church of Saratoga with Pastor Frank Aragon officiating interment will follow at 2:30 P.M. At Magnolia cemetery in Onalaska, Texas.
