Funeral Service for Myrtle Genus, 93, of Liberty, will was held Thursday, January 15, 2009 at Mt. Rose Baptist Church at 11:00 A.M. with the Reverend L. C. Speights officiating with burial in Wells Memorial cemetery.

A native of Liberty, she was a graduate of the Class of 1935 of Liberty Training High School.

She was a faithful member of Mount Rose Baptist Church where she served on the usher board.

Ms. Genus passed away January 10, 2009 at Liberty-Dayton Community Hospital.

Visitation was held from 9:00 A.M. until time of service at the church. She is survived by William Green, Jr. of Houston, Texas; Lisa Ann Braxton of Liberty, Texas; a host of nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.

Beasley-Wright

Elias “Eli” Gregory Beasley-Wright, infant son of Jason Michael Beasley and Rita Ann Wright, passed away Wednesday, January 14, 2009.

Little Eli was born August 2, 2008 in Kingwood.

Services for Eli will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 17, 2009 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Concord cemetery in Rye, Texas. Visitation will be 5-9 Friday evening at the funeral home.

He was preceded in death by grandparents: Pamela Faye and Gregory Lynn Beasley and his uncle: Gregory Shaw. He is survived by his parents: Jason Michael Beasley and Rita Ann Wright of Atascocita; his grandparents: Danny Dale and Martha Ellen Wright of Jonancy, KY; his aunt: Crista Marie Beasley of Liberty; his uncles: Colby Aaron Beasley and wife Mandy Michelle of Hardin, and Tony Dale Wright and wife Liz of Springfield, Ohio; and his cousin: Lana Michelle Beasley of Hardin.

The family has requested that in lieu of flowers memorials be made to the Ronald McDonald House, 1907 Holcombe Blvd., Houston, Texas 77030 in memory of Elias “Eli” Beasley-Wright.

Jenkins

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Doris Wells Jenkins, 84, of Liberty, on Saturday, January 17, 2009, at 10:00 A.M. at Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church, Ames, Texas, with the Reverend Monsignor Patrick Roland Wells, as Celebrant, with burial in Wells Memorial cemetery.

A native of Liberty, she was a graduate of Liberty Training High School. She attended Prairie View A & M University for two years. A member of Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church, Doris passed away Wednesday, January 14, 2009 at Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston.

Visitation will be from 9:00 A.M. until time of service at the church. She is survived by two daughters; Jennifer Hamilton and Simone Spears, both of Liberty; four sons: Desmond Jenkins of Channelview, Texas; Craig Jenkins and Brian Jenkins of Baytown, Texas and Troy Jenkins, of Lake Charles, Louisiana and several grandchildren, great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild and a host of other relatives and friends.

Wilhoite

Elgin Reeves Wilhoite, 75, of Dayton, died Wednesday, January 14, 2009 in Baytown, Texas.

He was born December 5, 1933 in Alabama to parents Henry Edward Wilhoite and Elsie Mae Wood Wilhoite. He served in the United States Army, was a member of the Dayton Masonic Lodge # 825 A.F. & F.M., and the Church of Christ in Barbers Hill. Before retiring he worked as a mechanic for the Jar-Tran Truck Rental Company in Houston. Mr. Wilhoite was devoted to his family and loved being with his daughter and grandchildren. He collected key chains and pocket knives and was a true supporter of Dayton Bronco Baseball. He will be truly missed by all that knew him.

Services for Mr. Wilhoite will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 17, 2009 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home with Bro. Leroy Stevens officiating. Interment will follow at Magnolia Park cemetery. Pallbearers are Gene Martin, Brian Wood, Eric Dobbs, Mickey Middlebrooks, Festus Cullars, and Danny Williams. The family will receive friends 5-9 Friday evening at the funeral home.

He is survived by his wife of over 52 years: Betty Wilhoite of Dayton; his daughter: Debbie Martin and husband Gene of Dayton; his grandchildren: Brandie Martin and husband Eric Dobbs of Spring, and Meredith Wood and husband Brian of Dayton; his great-sons: Andrew and Marcus Woods of Dayton; his brothers: Richard Wilhoite and wife Carol of Grady, Alabama and Ronald Wilhoite and wife Ruth of Deatsville, Alabama; also other relatives and a host of friends.

Hill

Thomas Alvin Hill, 93, of Liberty, Texas, died Monday, January 12, 2009.

He was born January 11, 1916 in Nome, Texas to Thomas J. and Almeda Johnson Hill. Thomas farmed all his life. He liked horses, cows, and dogs. Thomas was a great husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. He will be deeply missed by all that knew and loved him.

Thomas is preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Robert Eugene Hill; and 9 brothers and sisters. He is survived by his loving wife of over 70 years, Alice Coker Hill; sons, Paul E. Hill and wife Mary of Highlands, William Hill of Raywood, Doug Hill and wife Rachel of Raywood, and Dean Hill and wife Brenda of Devers; daughters, Mary Alice Wiser and husband Johnny of Daisetta and Glenda Lowe and husband Sonny of Liberty; grandchildren, Chris W. Hill, Carson Hill, Megan Chollette, Pennie Richardson, Kevin Lowe, Tylene DeCuire, Christel Pearson, Benjamin Hill, Stormie Priess, Aimee Brown, Tommy Hill, Keith Hill, David Hill, Reona Hill; 18 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and close friends.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from five until eight o’clock in the evening Tuesday, January 13th at Sterling Funeral Home. A service of remembrance will be held at ten o’clock in the morning, Wednesday January 14th at Sterling Funeral Home with the interment to follow in Fairlawn cemetery.

Shivers

Jesse Byron Shivers died on January 10, 2009 at his home in Liberty, Texas.

Visitation will be Wednesday, January 14, 2009 from 5pm until 8pm at Allison Funeral Service in Liberty, Texas. The funeral service will be held Thursday, January 15, 2009, at 10:00am at the First Baptist Church, 602 Main St., Liberty, Texas with burial following in Cooke Memorial cemetery.

Byron was born on November 6, 1938 in Hull, Texas to Lonnie and Lelia Shivers. He graduated from Hull-Daisetta High School and then from the University of Southwestern Louisiana with a degree in Petroleum Engineering in 1964. He worked for Shivers Well Service several years before starting Shivers Swabbing Service in 1971. He closed the swabbing service after over 30 successful years and most recently owned Shivers Manufactured Home Park in Liberty.

He was a long standing and faithful member of First Baptist Church in Liberty and was known as someone who was always there to lend a hand to anyone in need.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers W.G. Shivers, and R.M. Shivers, and sister Ethylene Shivers Sikes.

He is survived by his loving wife Leslie M. Shivers, brothers, Mitchell Shivers and wife Claudine of Houston, Lonnie Shivers and wife Inez of Liberty, Alfred Shivers (his twin) of Hull, Gregg Shivers and wife Jimmie of Hull, sisters-in-law Margarette Shivers of Hull and Pat Shivers of Fort Worth, Alice Smith and husband Sleepy, brother-in-law Bobby Moses and wife Jimmie. His children Jay Shivers and wife Kim of Lagos, Nigeria, Blake Shivers and wife Andrea of Lagos, Nigeria, Wade Davis and wife Somsri of Bangkok, Thailand, Ronda Davis of Liberty, and Mark Davis of Chicago, Illinois, his grandchildren; Cyndee Shivers, Julianne Shivers, Robert Worthy, Matthew Davis, Katherine Davis, and Raymond Davis, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.

Services are under the direction of Allison Funeral Service, 1101 N. Travis St., Liberty, Texas.

Campbell

Nellie Fae Gewin Campbell, of Liberty, TX, died on January 8, 2009, in Brenham, TX.

Graveside services for Nellie will be held on Sunday, January 11 at the Cooke Memorial cemetery in Liberty at 2 P.M.

Nellie Fae was born on July 1, 1925, in Pleasant Hill, Louisiana to Marion and Bonnie Ethridge Gewin. Nellie spent her rich childhood in the rural community of Pleasant Hill with her family which included eleven brothers and sisters as well as an extended family of aunts, uncles, and many cousins. She grew up with a love of gospel music which endured throughout her lifetime. After completing high school in Pleasant Hill and Chenier Business School in Beaumont, she was employed by Sun Oil Company. She relocated to Nacogdoches where she sang with the gospel quartet the Airliners which was well known in that area of Texas as they were featured regularly on local radio stations.

Nellie Fae married James H. Campbell in Nacogdoches, TX, in 1946. She moved to Liberty in 1955, where she raised her five sons. Nellie was active in the community as a member of the First United Methodist Church Choir, the Valley Players, and the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. Nellie is well remembered for her years of diligent and personable service to local ranchers and farmers while employed with the Liberty County ASCS office of the USDA.

She was preceded in death by her husband of thirty-four years James H. Campbell, parents Marion and Bonnie Gewin, brothers: Basil, Bill and Joe Gewin, and Sister Tommie Lee Gewin.

She leaves behind her sons James Campbell and wife Shirley of Sour Lake, TX, Gary Campbell and wife Kathy of Brenham, TX, Mike Campbell and wife Jeanne of Overland Park, KS, Bryan Campbell of Liberty, TX, and Joel Campbell and wife Tracy of Dayton, TX. Nell is fondly remembered by her grandchildren; grandsons Jason Campbell of Dallas, TX, Chris and Jeffery Campbell of Overland Park Kansas, granddaughters Bonnie Campbell of Brenham, TX and Hannah Fae and Sarah of Dayton, TX. She is also survived by brothers Clarence and wife Carolyn Gewin of Pleasant Hill LA, Paul and wife Mildred Gewin of Many, LA, Jack and wife Kathleen Gewin of Issoquah, WA, M. B and wife Kitzia Gewin of Israel, sisters Rowain Wells of Sherman IL, Peggy and husband Norbert Boschert of St. Charles MO, and Gwen Migues of Pleasant Hill, LA. Nellie Fae will also be greatly missed by a host of much loved nieces and nephews as well as a circle of life-long friends.

Memorials can be sent to the First United Methodist Church of Liberty music building fund. Services have been entrusted to the Allison Funeral Service, 1101 North Travis, Liberty, TX 77575.

Morgan

Patrick Lee Morgan, 49, of Magnolia, Texas, died at M.D. Anderson Wednesday, January 7, 2009. Pat was born in Houston, Texas on July 24, 1959 to Charles L. and Ruth E. Morgan. He is preceded in death by his mother; and his grandson, Hagen Barrett.

Survivors include his devoted wife, Bridget Morgan; daughters, Peggy Barrett and husband, Steven, Christi Contreras; grandchild Jaxon Barrett; father, Charlie Morgan; sister, Mary Garvin; bother, Tim Morgan and wife, Bertie; father-in-law, Bobby Hebert; mother-in-law, Arlene Hebert; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other cherished family members and treasured friends beyond measure.

Visitation will be held Saturday, January 10, 2009, 5:00–9:00 p.m. at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home, Cleveland, Texas. Funeral services will be held Sunday, January 11, 2:00 p.m. at the Pace-Stancil Chapel with interment at Pace-Stancil Memorial Rest Gardens.

Atkinson

Mary Hellen Atkinson of Texas City, died at her home on January 5, 2009.

She worked as an assistant in a Veterinarian’s Clinic. She loved her family and especially her grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Woodrow W. Atkinson and Willie Mae Smith Atkinson; brother, Woodrow Atkinson, Jr. and her nephew, Douglas Garness.

Mary is survived by her daughters, Crystal Lofstedt of Houston and Frances Frybert of Rosenburg; one sister, Bobbie Wages of Liberty; grandchildren, James and Brandan Walker and Robin and Skyler Atkinson; niece, Jeannette Potts; nephew, Gerald Potts, Harvey Potts, and Douglas Garness. One grand nephew, Lane Douglas Garness also survives.

Funeral services were private and under the care of the Allison Funeral Service, 1101 North Travis, Liberty, TX 77575.

Huiet

Cheryl Lynn Osborn Huiet died January 4, 2009.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2009 at 2 P.M. at the Hardin Baptist Church in Hardin, TX. with Revs. Tony Hines and Bill Fabriguze officiating. Burial will follow at the Hardin Chapel cemetery in Hardin.

A gathering of family and friends will be held at Allison Funeral Service in Liberty on Friday, January 9 from 6-8 P.M

Cheryl was born on October 10, 1965 in Liberty to parents, V.R. and Carolyn Osborn of Hardin. She graduated from the Hardin School District were she was active as a first chair clarinet player and a cheerleader during her school years. A hard worker, she started working as a young girl at the age of 17. She worked for many years as office manager for Health Claims Plus in Liberty. Cheryl was a member of the Hardin Baptist Church, a volunteer for various organizations including Special Olympics. She was a very loyal friend and a very giving person who as a organ donor continues to do so in death.

She is survived by her husband of 25 years Ross Owen Huiet; sons, Chance Huiet and Christopher Huiet; parents V.R. and Carolyn Osborn; brothers, Ronnie Osborn and Casey Osborn and wife, Shonna and one nephew, Dalton Osborn.

Arrangements were under the direction of Allison Funeral Service, 1101 North Travis Street, Liberty, Texas 77575 936-336-6418.

Oates

James Wyatt Oates III, age 49, of Cleveland, Texas, died Wednesday, January 7, 2009. Wyatt was born in Houston, Texas on January 22, 1959 to James Wyatt and Alta Oates Jr. He is preceded in death by his father; and his grandparents.

Survivors include his loving wife, Martha Oates; mother, Alta Oates; brother, Jesse Oates and wife, Velma, with numerous nieces, nephews and other cherished family members and best friend, Everitt Doucette. The family wishes to thank the Hermann Memorial Woodlands Hospital and Hermann Memorial Hospice for all their loving care.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, January 10, 2009, 10:00 a.m. at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel, Cleveland, Texas with Pastor Gene Denham and Pastor Tom Lowe officiating.

McWhorter

James Wilson McWhorter, age 48, of Cleveland, Texas, died January 2, 2009 at his residence. He was born in Dayton, Texas on February 20, 1960 to John Wilson and Gladys Jewell McWhorter.

He is survived by his both parents; his son, Christopher McWhorter; daughter, Jill McWhorter; grandchild, Madison Paige McWhorter; sisters, Ruby Propes and Treca Lytle; brothers, Ronald McWhorter, John Edd McWhorter, Richard McWhorter, Bert McWhorter, and Kenneth McWhorter; with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other cherished family members and treasured friends beyond measure.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 10, 2009 at Central Baptist Church, Cleveland, Texas; Bro. Billy Walker officiating.

Lindsey

Sherry Janice Lindsey, age 58, of Hull, Texas, died after her struggle with cancer on January 6, 2009. Sherry was born in Harris County, Texas on June 7, 1950 to Howard Harold and Bonnie Lee Brown.

She is survived by her husband, Daril H. Williamson, Jr., sons, Jason Williamson and wife, Courtney, Jarrod Williamson, Jacob Williamson and wife, Alanna; daughter, Jennifer Tinney; grandchildren, Abrie, Emaree, and Ronan Ankerman, Allen and Alona Williamson, Lindsey and Lacey Tinney, Gavin Williamson; brothers, Howard “Bud” Brown, John Brown, David Brown, and Shane Brown with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other cherished family members and treasured friends beyond measure.

Graveside services will be held Friday, January 9, 2009, 11:00 a.m. at Moss Hill cemetery, Moss Hill, Texas; Willie West and Bo Whitton will officiate.

Leal

Jimena Leal, 15 month old daughter of Oscar and Esperanza Leal, died January 3, 2009 in Tamasopo, Mexico, as a result of a car accident.

Jimena was born October 7, 2007, in Inverness, Florida to parents Oscar Leal and Esperanza Orduna Leal. The Leal family resides in Hernando, Florida but have relatives in the Liberty area.

She is survived by her parents, grandparents, Santiago Leal, Alicia Espinoza Garcia, Eracleo and Francisca Orduna and many other relatives and friends.

A visitation was held Tuesday, January 6, 2009 at Allison Funeral Service. The funeral service was held Wednesday, January 7, 2009 at Allison Funeral Service Chapel with Reverend Anil Thomas SVD officiating. Burial was in the Liberty Catholic cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Allison Funeral Service.
