Johnson

Stephen Wayne Johnson, 55, of Plano, died Tuesday, December 30, 2008 in Temple, Texas.

He was born December 24, 1953 in Austin, Texas to parents: Ellis Ray Johnson and Vera Spencer Johnson. He served during the Vietnam era in the United States Marine Corp and the United States Navy where he trained for the Submarine Corps. Stephen was a very talented pencil artist and carpenter, and he also worked with leather. He brought laughter and joy to many people.

A Memorial Service will be during the noon hour on Saturday, January 3, 2009 at the Liberty Church of Christ. Arrangements are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home.

Stephen was preceded in death by his father: Ellis Ray Johnson; his step-fathers: Julius David Blaha and Hillary George Wiggins, all who he admired and respected. He is survived by his mother: Vera Blaha Wiggins of Liberty; his brothers: Micheal Ray Johnson of Plano and Jay Johnson of Austin; his sisters: Debbie Andree of Galveston, Tonya Johnson of Oregon and Renee Blaha of Austin; also special aunts, uncles, numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends. He had a special relationship with his niece, Camilla Johnson and nephew, Adrian Ware.

Jackson

Funeral Service for Earl Raymond Jackson, 64, of Ames, Texas, will be held Saturday, January 3, 2009 at Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church, Ames, at 11 A.M with Reverend Father Ikeokwu Nduh, M.S.P., Celebrant, with burial in Ames Catholic cemetery.

A native of Liberty, he graduated West Liberty High School in 1964. He worked maintenance for The Brown and Root Corporation. He was a member of Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church, in Ames.

He died Tuesday, December 30, 2008 at Ben Taub Hospital in Houston, Texas.

Visitation will be held Saturday from 9AM until time of service at the church.

He is survived by his wife, June Jackson, three sons: Earl Raymond Jackson III, of Atascocita, Texas, Raymond Earl Jackson of The Woodlands, Texas and Earlvin Ramon Jackson of Houston, Texas, one sister Joyce Montgomery of Houston.

Yates

Emma Eaton Yates, 71, of Liberty, died Tuesday, December 30, 2008 after a brave battle with cancer.

She was born August 8, 1937 in Dayton, Texas to parents: Richard and Susie Robinson Eaton. She attended Dayton Schools, worked for the prison system and as a nurses aide.

Service for Mrs. Yates will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 2, 2009 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mike Glazener officiating.

Interment will follow at Cooke cemetery in Liberty. Visitation will be Thursday evening 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home.

Mrs. Yates was preceded in death by her parents, sisters: Olivia, Elzeda, and Evelyn, and brothers: Richard, Jr., James, David, and Steve. She is survived by sons: Gaylon Ferguson and wife Glenda of Batson, and Timothy Ferguson and wife Uli of Baytown; grandchildren: Christi, Clint, Niki, Sara, Trey, and Holly; great-grandchildren: Caleb, Tim, Nathan, and Judah; brother: Samuel Eaton of Liberty; numerous other relatives and a host of friends.

Bowles

Eolin Finklea Bowles, age 89, beloved mother, and grandmother died on Sunday, December 28, 2008.

She was born on June 17, 1919, in Shreveport, LA., to Frank Finklea and Alice Delhomme Finklea. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Ray Bowles, and her brother, Warren A. Finklea.

Eolin is survived by her son, Warren (Wes) Sterling and his wife Melanie, of Friendswood, TX., a brother, James R. Finklea of Orange, a sister Betty Reilly of Houston, and three grandchildren, five great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.

Eolin worked as an insurance clerk and under writer for over 40 years. She was a graduate of the Daisetta high school and the Elliott Business College, Houston, TX. In addition, she attended insurance school in Hartford, Connecticut. In 1950, Eolin married the love of her life, Ray Bowles. They remained happily together until his death in April 1992.

Among her many service-oriented affiliation, Eolin was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Liberty, the UMW, the ‘We Care’ group and the Liberty Trivium Club. She was also, along with her husband Ray, a charter member of The Valley Players Theatre group.

Visitation will be held at Allison Funeral Service, 1101 North Travis Street, Liberty, TX from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Friday, January 2, 2009. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2009 at 11:00 A. M., at the First United Methodist Church 539 Main Street Liberty, Texas 77575 with the Reverend Jay Barnes officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairlawn cemetery.

Fregia

John “Pedo” Fregia, 76, of Batson, died Sunday December 28, 2008 at his residence.

Funeral service will be held Wednesday December 31, 2008 at 2:00 P.M. At New Life Assembly of God church of Batson, with Reverend Sheri Dark and Darrell Brown officiating, interment will follow at Guedry cemetery in Batson.

The family will be receiving friends Tuesday December 30, 2008 from 6:00 P.M. Until 9:00 P.M. At the church.

Pedo lived in Batson many years and had worked for Oilfield Production Co. of Daisetta and Enloe’s Memorial of Batson.

Survivors are his loving wife, Lorine “Sissy” Fregia of Batson, daughter; Rose Bryant and husband Gary of Batson, Jackie Werner and husband Darrell of Batson. Sons; Roger Fregia and wife Diana of Sour, Lake, David Fregia and wife Michelle of Batson, Clayton Fregia of Baytown, and friend Billy Ore also of Baytown. Grandchildren 15. Great grandchildren; 22.

Blanchard

Anna “Violet” Hallstrom Blanchard, 96, of Grove, OK, died Tuesday, December 30, 2008, at the Integris Grove Hospital in Grove, OK.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 31, 2008, at the Grand Lake Funeral Home in Grove, OK.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 2, 2009, at the Oaklawn Memorial Gardens with burial following thereafter. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to noon, Friday, at the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Home in Galesburg, IL.

Vi was born December 15, 1912 in Greenbush, IL, to parents; Swan and Marie Johanson Hallstrom, was a former resident of Galesburg, IL, and has resided in Grove, OK for the past six years. She was a graduate of the Alexis High School class of 1932, a nanny for Dr. Sullivan’s family during high school and for the Burch family of Chicago following her graduation, and former volunteer for St. Mary’s Hospital. She also enjoyed reading, genealogy, crafts, word seek puzzles, games, flowers, socializing at the Grove Senior Center, and corresponding with relatives in Sweden.

Mrs. Blanchard was preceded in death by her husband of 34 years: Leo E. Blanchard, her parents, brother: Rolland Hallstrom, and sister: Margaret Farm. She is survived by her daughters: Barbara A. Harrison of Grove, OK and Elise Blanchard of Galesburg, IL, grandsons: Brad J. Harrison and Michelle Sunderman of Forest City, NC and Brent M. Harrison of Dayton, TX, great-grandchildren: Ally K. and Trace M. Harrison of Dayton, TX, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

LaBove

Funeral Service for Lawrence “Chief” LaBove, 83, of Raywood, Texas, will be held Saturday, January 3, 2009 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Raywood, at 10 A.M with Reverend Father Charles Atuah, M.S.P., with burial in Sacred Heart cemetery.

A native of Maurice, Louisiana he was a farmer and laborer for Brown and Root Corporation.

A member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, he died Wednesday, December 24, 2008 at Methodist Hospital in Houston, Texas.

Visitation will be held Saturday from 8AM until time of service at the church.

He is survived by his wife, Ruby Mallett LaBove of Raywood, Texas, one son, grandchildren, great-grandchildren; two sisters, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Barker

James ‘Jim’ R. Barker Jr., age 79, of Moss Hill, died Saturday, December 27, 2008 in a Beaumont Hospice.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday December 30, 2008 at 2:00 P.M., at the First United Methodist Church 539 North Main Street, Liberty, TX, 77575 with the Reverend Jay Barnes officiating. Burial will follow in the Liberty City cemetery. A visitation will be held on Monday, from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M, December 29, 2008 at the Allison Funeral Service 1101 North Travis Street., Liberty, TX.

Jim was born on March 17, 1929 in Houston, TX, to James R. Barker and Mary Lucille Christian Barker. He graduated from the Lamar High School in Houston in 1947 and graduated from the University of Texas, South Texas College of Law, and William Howard Taft University with degrees in Pharmacy, Law, and CPA. Jim was very active in the Democratic Party of South Texas and Liberty County. The majority of his professional life was spent as owner and pharmacist of retail pharmacies in Liberty and Houston. His love of education led him to become qualified as an attorney at law, certified public accountant and realtor.

Jim was a devoted member and supporter of many professional, social and charitable organizations, including Kappa Sigma Fraternity; Sons of the Republic of Texas and Sons of the American Revolution. At various times in his life, Jim was honored to fill leadership roles in many of these organizations; he was a Master Mason of the Masonic Lodge, vice-chair and chair elect of the Texas Pharmaceutical Association, a delegate of the American Pharmacists’ Association, and President of the Liberty Lions Club. Other organizations that contributed to the fullness of Jim’s life were the Rotary Club, First United Methodist Church of Liberty, and Boy Scouts of American. Jim was also a member of the Chancellor’s Council and Leadership Society of the University of Texas.

Jim is preceded in death by his parents and wife, Wanda Lou Penick Barker. He is survived by his son, James R. Barker III and his wife Lisa, three daughters, Cina Barker Guthrie and husband John, Gayla Barker Hayes and husband Mark, and Starla Barker, Granddaughters; Joan Guthrie Hawkes, Courtney Guthrie Boullion, Marla Hayes Schmitz, Kaylee Barker, Stephanie Barker, and Katelyn Barker, Grandsons; Christian Gordon, James Barker IV, and Evan Barker, and a host of other family members and friends.

Whitsell

Hershel David Whitsell, Jr, 43, of Houston, Texas died Monday, December 22, 2008.

He was born on December 13, 1965 to Hershel David Whitsell, Sr. and Joan Yvonne Psencik in Channelview, Texas.

David is preceded in death by his brother, Dale Wayne Whitsell; grandparents; and aunt, Peggy Anderson. He is survived by his mother, Joan Psencik and husband Walter of Dayton; father, Hershel David Whitsell, Sr. of Cloverleaf; sisters, Darla Funderburk and husband Richard of Moss Hill Tammy Holloway and husband Carl of Baytown and Amanda Price and husband Bo of Atascocita; brothers, Danny Ray Whitsell of Beaumont and Travis Psencik and wife Jessie of Dayton; niece, Natalie Holloway; nephews, Jason Sanders, Richard Funderburk, Danny Holloway, Jonathan Whitsell, Dale Wayne Whitsell, Jr., Milo Psencik, and Parker Price; and numerous more relatives and close friends.

A visitation will be held Monday, December 29 from 12:00 until 2:00 PM at Sterling Funeral Home. A service of remembrance will be held at 2:00 PM with interment to follow in Magnolia Park cemetery. Hensley

Danny L. Hensley, 70, of Liberty, a retired high school and middle school choral music teacher for the Liberty ISD, died Saturday Dec. 27, 2008 in a Fort Worth hospital.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday January 10, 2009 at Heights Baptist Church in Liberty.

Mr. Hensley was born March 20, 1938 in Wichita, Kansas to Lee R. and Ruth Pack Hensley. He married Marilyn Martin on June 15, 1968 in Cleburne. He was a member of Heights Baptist Church in Liberty where he served as a deacon and sang in the choir. He also enjoyed traveling, music, and reading.

Dan is preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Juanita Myers.

Dan leaves behind his Wife, Marilyn Hensley of Liberty; daughters, Danna Hafner and husband, Brad of Palestine, Holli Hensley of Austin; brothers, Edward L. Hensley and wife, Arlene of Apopka, Florida, Bill Hensley of Lombard, Illinois; sister, Shirley Bradford and husband, Wendell of Harriman, Tennessee; brother-in law, Roy Myers of Bellavista, Arkansas; granddaughters, Jordan, Kelsey, and Megan Hafner and numerous nieces and nephews.

Roach

Eugenia Delzell Roach, 63, of Daisetta, died Tuesday December 23, 2008 in Beaumont, TX.

A native of Liberty, she lived in Daisetta, most of her life and was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her granddaughter; Madison Roach.

Survivors include Mother; Julia Mae Delzell of Daisetta. Sons; John Vernon Lowe of Williamsburg Va., Joseph Andrew Roach Jr. wife Karen of Daisetta and James Allen Roach of Daisetta. Daughter; Elizabeth “Cissy” Villarreal, husband Henry of Daisetta. Grandchildren; Geovany Pescador, Nathan Lunday Jr. of Daisetta, Ashton Pescador and husband Jose, of Smith Point, Colton Roach of Daisetta and Alyssa Villarreal of Smith Point.

Funeral service was held Saturday December 27, 2008 at 1:00 P.M. At First Baptist Church in Daisetta with Reverend Larry Luster and Lonnie Jordan officiating, interment followed at Oakdale cemetery. Visitation was held Friday December 26, 2008 from 4:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. at the church.

Florence Jessie Daniel, 94, of Batson, died Monday December 22, 2008 in Beaumont.

Funeral service will be held Wednesday December 24, 2008 at 2:00 P.M. At Batson Prairie Baptist church with interment to follow at Guedry cemetery in Batson.

A gathering will begin at 10:00A.M. Also Wednesday at the church.

Born to Jesse and Mary Sarah Young in Daisetta, she was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years Esthel Tusan Daniel, daughter; Mary Josephine Daniel, brother; Carl Young, Cleve Young. Sisters; Ida McNeil, Margaret Goodrum, Bea McCreight, Jessie Lee Fregia, Audrey Fregia. Survivors are Son; Jesse Daniel Sr. of Batson. Grandchildren: Jesse Daniel Jr, and Jennifer Daniel. Great grandchildren; 3 and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Zylks

Melvin G. “Pete” Zylks, Sr., 76, of Dayton, died Wednesday, December 17, 2008, at his residence.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 23, 2008, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Ladder Day Saints in Liberty. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., Monday, December 22, 2008, at the funeral home. Local arrangements are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton. Services will also be held Wednesday, December 24, 2008, with Gorsulowsky Funeral Home in Vivian, LA, with burial following at the Slaughter cemetery in Rodessa, LA.

Pete was born July 23, 1932, in Rodessa, LA, to parents; Samuel G., Sr. and Viola Shaw Zylks, a former resident of Hooks, and has resided in the Dayton area for the past 34 years. He was a graduate of the Rodessa High School class of 1950, a retired dairy, rice, and soy bean farmer, member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Ladder Day Saints, and enjoyed training Tennessee Walking Horses, golf, gardening, and raccoon hunting.

Mr. Zylks was preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter: Makenna Jo Bales, two brothers, and four sisters. He is survived by his wife of 56 years: Bobbie Alford Zylks of Dayton, daughters: Patti Bales and husband Mark of Hawaii and Cathy Majors and husband Clint of Hamilton, MT, son: Melvin G. “Pepper” Zylks of Power, MT, son-in-law: Kenneth Lack of Hooks, brother: Roy Don Zylks of Zylks, LA, sisters: Faye Thompson of Zylks, LA and Dorothy Keener of Zylks, LA, 12 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
