Nettles

James Edward Nettles of Smith Point died at his home September 11, 2008 with his beloved family by his side.

He was born May 7, 1937 in Lincoln County, Mississippi the son of Walter Edward Nettles and Elizabeth Norwood Nettles. He worked a variety of jobs, last working in the Oil Field Production Industry, he was the proudest however, of his years with Coca-Cola. James was an active member with his wife of the First Baptist Church in Anahuac.

He was preceded in death by his father, Walter Edward Nettles, son Richard Nettles, daughter Debra Cobb and a sister Joyce Butler.

He leaves behind his beloved wife, Betty Joyce Gau Nettles of Smith Point, sons Patrick and Paul Nettles, mother Elizabeth Nettles, brother Jeff Nettles, sisters Peggy Smith, Kathleen Garren, and Becky Furlow. In addition he leaves five grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

A graveside service will be held 1pm Thursday at Jackson cemetery, Smith Point with Rev. Gary Hillyard officiating. The Sterling Funeral Home, 1201 S. Main St. Anahuac, TX have been entrusted with the arrangements.

Shuler

Harold E. Shuler, 62 or Crosby, Texas died Wednesday at his home. A funeral service to be held Saturday, August 23, 2008 at Huffman Church, 25306 FM 2100, Huffman, TX at 10:30 AM with Brother Joe Kearse officiating.. Burial to follow in Huffman cemetery.

Harold was born on July 14, 1946 in San Antonio, Texas to parents Dale and Lily Shuler

Harold was the self employed owner of the Harold Auto Repair in Crosby/Huffman area. He was heavily involved with the Little League baseball teams of Huffman and received honors and community recognition for his years of participation.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Daleene Poledge. He leaves behind his wife of 40 years, Patricia Hayes Shuler. Daughter, Cynthia Helms and her husband John of Dayton. Sons, Richard Prater and wife Julie of Huffman, Arthur Prater and wife Aleisha of Colorado. In addition, Harold leaves his nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Sterling Funeral Home, 602 N. Main, Dayton, Texas 77514.

Moreau

Leo D. “Blackie” Moreau, 85, of Dayton, died Tuesday, August 19, 2008.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, August 25, 2008, at the Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel with burial following at VA National cemetery in Houston. Visitation held from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday, at the funeral home. Services under direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.

Blackie was born December 4, 1922 in Mallett, LA, to parents; Leon and Ludy Sonnier Moreau, a former resident of Cleveland, retired welder, veteran of the US Army/Air Force and enjoyed fishing, dancing, playing poker, and barbequeing.

Mr. Moreau was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Harry and Litten Moreau, Sr., sisters: Della Guillory and Ethelene Cahanin, godchild: Delores Cormier, son-in-law: James H. Goss Jr, David C. Ferguson, Daryl W. Dreahn, and grandson: Daryl W. Dreahn, Jr. He is survived by his wife: Maisie A. Crockett Moreau of Dayton, sons: Michael Moreau of Shepherd and Charles Moreau of Groesbeck, daughters: Mary Gail Rowe of Fordyce, AR, Theresa Ferguson of Dayton, Patricia Henderson of Channelview, Darlene Klinger of Wichita Falls, Regina Bryant of Joshua, and Andrea Dreahn of Dayton, brothers: Gus Moreau of Tyler and Edward Moreau of Houston, sisters: Lucille Foret of Ville Platte, LA, Joyce DesHotel of Eunice, LA, and Rita Syers of Galveston, 23 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, one great great-grandchild on the way, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends

Burney

Donald Lloyd Burney died August 19, 2008 in Houston, TX at the Michael E. DeBakey V.A. Medical Center.

Services will be held on Saturday, August 23, 2008 at 2 P.M. at Allison Funeral Service Chapel in Liberty. A visitation will be held on Friday, August 22 from 5-8 P.M. at the funeral home.

Donald was born in San Angelo, TX to parents Lloyd Burney and Ada Smith. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War receiving a Purple Heart, Bronze Star and a Silver Star. He spent twenty years as a truck driver before becoming the owner of the Komputer Shoppe in Livingston, TX. He was a Computer engineer. He loved to fish, read and play the guitar. Donald was a member of the Liberty Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, VFW Post 5621, were he served as Quartermaster, Elks Lodge, Lions Club of Livingston, and the Vietnam Veterans of America.

He is preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his wife, Linda Sue Burney of Liberty; daughter, Cathy Kristopher and her husband, Daniel of Dayton; son, Christopher Dale and his wife Natasha Burney of Africa. Also surviving is one sister, Freddie McMullen and husband, Fred of Branson, MO, and six grandchildren: Nicholas Jay Anderson, Kyle Norman Parrin, Tyler Thomas Couch, Kayla Dianne Anderson, Alexandra Burney and Danielle Burney.

Rumsey

Howard Noel Rumsey, 80, of Liberty, Texas died Monday, August 18, 2008.

He was born on December 9, 1929 to Robert Mitchel and Linnie Loy (Manning) Rumsey. Howard loved bluegrass music, dogs, and children. He is a veteran of the Army Air Force. He was a kind compassionate person that could play any form of the guitar. He was in a band called “The Good ‘ol Boys”.

Howard is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dorothy Rumsey; brothers, Calvin Lee Rumsey, Arnold Rumsey, and Kenneth M. Rumsey; and sister, Barbara Loy Matte. He is survived by his sisters, Mary “Dean” Swift of Orange, Betty Jean Montgomery of Lake Charles, LA, and Vernadine Montgomery of Houston.

A visitation for family and friends will be from 5:00 until 8:00 PM Thursday, August 21 at Sterling Funeral Home. A service of remembrance will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, August 22 at Sterling Funeral Home with interment to follow in Palms Memorial Park. Stokes

Maudry Mary Breaux Stokes 84, of Anahuac died Tuesday August 19, at The Arboretum of Winnie.

She was born September 22, 1923 in Sulphur, LA to O’Neal and Regina Breaux. A former resident of Port Arthur, she has lived in Anahuac for the past 51 year.

She is proceeded in death by her parents, husband William Stokes, son Marvin Stokes, daughter Miriam Stokes, grandson Chad Thompson, son-in-law Tommy Thompson and brother Wilbert Breaux.

Her Survivors are daughter Cheryl Thompson of Anahuac, daughter in law Sheila Stokes of Pasadena; grandchildren; Wayde Thompson of Anahuac, Keith Albritton, and Anissa and husband Jorge Arvizu of LaPorte; great grandchildren Krista Thompson of Anahuac, Kirstie Thompson of Winnie, Michael Albritton, Aaron Albritton, Brianna Albritton and Ian Arvizu of LaPorte, a host of nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.

Maudry was devoted to her family. She was also a devout member of Our Lady of Light Catholic Church. She was also know for her sewing, her delicious gumbo, fried chicken, divinity, watching soap operas, and her great sense of humor. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

A visitation of family and friend will be Thursday, August 21 from 6:00 until 9 p.m. with a Rosary being recited at 7 p.m. at Sterling Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, August 22 at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Light Catholic Church in Anahuac, with interment to follow in Anahuac cemetery.

For those who wish to make donations in memory of Maudry the family has requested Our Lady of Light Catholic of Anahuac.

Noack

Wayne James Noack, 71, of Las Vegas, Nevada died Wednesday, August 13, 2008 at Mike O’Callaghan Federal Hospital.

He was born May 31, 1937 in Dayton to parents Ernest Gephart Noack and Lou Anna LaBuff Noack. He was a long time resident of Dayton before moving to Houston where he worked for Varco International before retiring to Las Vegas. Wayne served in the US Army and enjoyed bowling.

Service for Mr. Noack will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, August 23, 2008 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Lyndol Kinser officiating. Interment will follow at Ryan cemetery. Visitation for will be 5:00 to 9:00 p.m., Friday evening at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home.

Mr. Noack is preceded in death by his parents and his brother: Willie Paul Noack. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Vivian gray Noack of Las Vegas, Nevada; his daughters: Debbie Monahan and husband David of Houston; his daughter: Chris Smith of Weatherford; Louanna Walker and husband Clint of McKinney; Terry McCan and husband David of Crossroads; his son: Larry Hidalgo of Taylor; 11 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; his sisters: Ernestine Wright and husband Paul of Dayton, Pam Domini of Montgomery County; his brother: Curtis Noack and wife Ruth of Dayton; also numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Kennedy

Melissa Miller Kennedy, 36, of Liberty, TX., died Friday, August 15, 2008 at her home.

Melissa was born on August 3, 1972, in Liberty, TX., to parents, Gary Lynn Miller and Jenni Jones Miller. Melissa lived in the Liberty area most of her life. She was well known and liked . She will be missed by family and friends.

Melissa is preceded in death by her father, an infant daughter; Meagan Rushing, brother; Brian Miller, maternal grandfather; Joseph J. Jones Jr., paternal grandparents Virgil and Bobbie Miller.

Melissa is survived by her son; Brett M. Rushing, daughter; Ashley R. Rushing, mother; Jenni Jones Miller; maternal grandmother; Emagene C. Jones, uncles; Jeff Jones and wife Jerry Sue, Virgil Miller and wife Ann, aunt, Linda Laird and husband Arthur.

Donations may be made to the Melissa Kennedy Benefit Fund at the Hull State Bank. No services are planned at this time.

Tems

James Michael Tems, 50, of Anahuac, Texas died on August 17, 2008.

Better known as “J.T.” to his friends and co-workers, he died of injuries sustained in an automobile accident Saturday night.

J.T. was born in Anahuac, Texas May 8, 1958 to George and Genevieve (Brugger) Tems. He started school at Amelia Elementary in Beaumont and graduated from Weatherford High School in 1976. J.T. worked odd jobs for awhile. He met the love of his life, Vicki Stewart, while working at Master Shield in Weatherford. J.T. and Vicki both moved to Anahuac in 1983. J.T. was employed for years with the Chambers County Parks and Recreation. J.T. and Vicki, the Avon Lady, were married on April 1, 1989 and made their home north of Anahuac on 563.

J.T. was preceded in death by his wife Vicki; his father George Tems; sister, Sherrill Howard; and grandparents, James and Cannie Tems and Arthur and Dorothy Brugger.

He is survived by his mother, Genevieve Henley of Baytown; special friend, Trella Pennington; daughter Michele Sullivan and her children, Heather and Cody of Anahuac; niece, Penny Howard and her children, Preston, Geordan, Christopher, and her companion Carter and his son, Chris and his aunt, Carolyn Hebert all of Baytown; and numerous more relatives and friends.

A visitation for family and friends will be from 5:00 until 8:00 PM Wednesday, August 20, 2008 at Sterling Funeral Home in Anahuac. A service of remembrance will be held at 3:00 PM Thursday, August 21 at Sterling Funeral Home in Anahuac with interment to follow in Anahuac cemetery.

Matthews

Frankie O. Vann Matthews, 90, of Evergreen, died Saturday, August 16, 2008, at Mary’s Private Healthcare Center in Cleveland.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 19, 2008, at the Pace-Stancil funeral Home Chapel with burial following at Hayman cemetery in Coldspring. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., Monday, at the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.

Frankie was born June 11, 1918, in San Jacinto County, to parents; Tom F. and Sallie Lilly Vann, and has resided in the Evergreen area throughout her life. She was a graduate of the Coldspring High School class of 1934, a retired insurance company secretary, homemaker, member of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and the Order of Eastern Star, a former Democratic Party election judge, and enjoyed gardening.

Mrs. Matthews was preceded in death by her parents, husband: William P. Matthews, one brother, and five sisters. She is survived by her daughter: Gayle Carter and husband Coleman of Kenefick, grandchildren: Marshall Loyd Reed of Evergreen, Boyd Glenn Reed and wife Cindy of Baytown, and Matthew Carver and wife Teresa of Cypress, seven great-grandchildren, four great great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Anderson

Leroy Anderson died peacefully after a lengthy illness on Friday August 15th, 2008 at the Magnolia Place Health Care nursing home.

Leroy was born March 11, 1941 in Liberty to parents Oscar Anderson and Velma Moss Anderson. He had resided in Liberty County all his life and worked previously in the oilfield industry but his true passion was living the cowboy way. Leroy enjoyed working cattle, riding horses and traveling the rodeo circuit as a calf roper and saddle bronc rider. In his later years Leroy enjoyed bingo, telling stories of years past and spending time with his nieces and nephews who were so special to him.

Leroy was preceded in death by his parents and Brother James Robert Anderson.

He is survived by his sister Agnes Garrison and husband Allen, aunt Emily Oglesbee of Baytown, sister-in-law Linda Anderson, nieces Evelyn Killion and husband Tim, Tisha LeJeune and husband Mike, nephews Joe Lee Tousha and wife Tammie, Eric Garrison and wife Katrina, Jim Bob Anderson and wife Brenda.

Great nieces and nephews; Josh, Kaci and Kody Watts, Garrison and Kara Tousha, Trent LeJeune and Hunter, Brooklyn, Madison and McKenzie Anderson. Leroy also leaves behind numerous family members, many close friends and a special group of residents and staff at Magnolia Place & Liberty Health Care nursing homes that were an important part of his last years.

Pallbearers will be Allen Garrison, Joe Lee Tousha, Eric Garrison, Josh Watts, Jim Bob Anderson and Tim Killion. Honorary pallbearers will be his great nephews; Kody Watts, Hunter Anderson, Garrison Tousha and Trent LeJeune.

Visitation will be held Sunday evening August 17, 2008 in Liberty at Allison Funeral Service, from 5:00-8:00pm. with services on Monday August 18, 2008 at 2:00pm at Allison Funeral Services with Reverend V.R. Hylton officiating, followed by internment at Norris cemetery on FM 563.

Browning

William Larry Browning Sr 63, of Tarkington Prairie died Thursday August 14, 2008 at Cleveland Regional Hospital.

A native of Brownwood Texas he had lived in Tarkington Prairie and was a truck driver.

William is survived by his Son; William Browning Jr of Tarkington Prairie. Daughter; Tammy Fregia and husband Alton of Hardin. Grandchildren are; Britanie Cameron, Michael Posey, Marc Browning, Cheyenne Browning, Candace Posey Bush and husband Chris.

Funeral service was held Sunday August 17, 2008 at 3:00 P.M. At Hope Apostolic Church of Tarkington Prairie with Pastor Jerry Matthews officiating. Interment followed at Guedry cemetery in Batson.

Kirkwood

Funeral service is pending for Robert Kirkwood, 81, of Liberty, Texas. He died at Spring Creek Nursing Home, Beaumont, TX.
