Davis

John Thomas “Tommy” Davis died at the age of 68 on July 20, 2008 following a massive stroke.

He was a 1958 graduate and star athlete of Liberty High School. In 1962, he graduated from Lamar University with a degree in business administration. His teaching career began 1964 with Clear Creek Independent School District and then began his career with Liberty Independent School District in 1966 and served as teacher, coach, athletic director, business manager, and assistant superintendent of business administration. After retirement he continued his public service by being elected to the LISD Board. Tommy was born on April 17, 1940 in Liberty, Texas. He is preceded in death by his parents, George Milton Davis and Mary Gajdosik Davis.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Beverly Phillips Davis. Other survivors include a sister Mary Alice Tate and husband Norman, sister Betty Kolb and husband Kenneth, brother Jimmy Davis and wife Barbara, brother Gus Davis and wife Chris, nephews Joe Costanza, Kevin Kolb and wife Heather, Michael Sanford, Jason Sanford, nieces, Holly Baker and husband Phillip, Kristen Phillips, Shelley Paquette and numerous great nieces, nephews and cousins. The family will receive friends Tuesday, July 22 at Allison Funeral Home from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Services will be held at the First Baptist Church of Liberty Wednesday July 23 at 2:00 pm. Interment will be at Fairlawn cemetery in Liberty, Texas. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Liberty Independent School District Education Foundation, The American Stroke Foundation and the Medical Missions of Herman Hospital.

Beasley

Kermit Edwin Beasley, age 66, died Saturday July 19, 2008 in Beaumont.

He was born in Liberty, March 13, 1942 the son of the late William Kermit Beasley and Lois Evelyn Tanner Beasley. Edwin retired in 2004 from Jackson & Jackson where he worked for ten years in construction. He attended Blinn College, an avid reader, who enjoyed hunting and fishing as well as a gun collecting.

He leaves behind his sister Zonna Craig of Livingston; brother John H. Beasley of Liberty; cousin Roland Dodd; aunt Marian Jackson; nephews Lance Craig and Stewart Beasley; niece Tara Craig Owens; grand nieces Gracen and Hope Owens; grandnephew Tyler Beasley; special friend Carolyn Wakefield and a host of other close friends and family. Edwin will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. Funeral arrangements will be private.

Allison Funeral Services, 1101 N. Travis, Liberty, Texas have been entrusted with the arrangements.

McCulley

Dorothy Mae (Arrant) McCulley, 82, of Anahuac, Texas died Sunday, July 20, 2008 after her courageous battle throughout the years of illness.

She was born on August 26, 1925 to Byron and Thelma (Eitel) Arrant in Alto, Texas. Dorothy was a true southern lady. She was a charter member of the Bayside Hospital Auxiliary and Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority. Dorothy worked for over 39 years for Chambers County before she retired as Chief Deputy Clerk. She was an active member of First United Methodist Church in Anahuac.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her father, Byron Arrant; mother, Thelma Martin; beloved step-father, Lester Martin; grandmother, Ella Knox; and uncle, Donald Eitel. She is survived by her loving husband 63 years, Robert McCulley; son, Richard McCulley of Washington, D.C.; and a host of other relatives and friends.

A visitation for family and friends will be from 6:00 until 8:00 in the evening on Tuesday, July 22 at Sterling Funeral Home. A service of remembrance will be held on Wednesday, July 23 at 10:00 in the morning with Pastor Randy Carrion officiating. Those honored as pallbearers are Bill Bryant, Bobby Hall, Victor Mamich, Mark Schultz, David Vucinch, and David Kirkham.

Nugent

William Robert Nugent 87, of Liberty died July 16, 2008 in Baytown, TX.

Services will be held on Saturday, July 19, 2008 at 10 A.M. at the Pentencostal Tabernacle in Liberty. A visitation will be held on Friday, July 18 from 5-8 P.M. at the church. Burial will be in the Cooke cemetery in Liberty.

Jesse was born July 26, 1920 in Liberty, TX to parents John Nugent and Celeste Fregia. He was a farmer who enjoyed working with his cattle, chickens, pigs, gardening and hunting. He worked at Graves Farms for years. He and his wife Myrtle were members of the Pentecostal Tabernacle of Liberty.

Preceded in death by his parents; seven brothers; four sisters and one granddaughter, Ashley Sue Nugent, Jesse is survived by his wife, Myrtle King Nugent; two sons, William Robert Nugent and his wife, Dorothy and Chester Fregia. Also, surviving are grandchildren, Robbie Nugent, Tandy Clements, Melinda Ray, Jeremy, Justin, Jessica, and Jake Nugent as well as many great-grandchildren, nephews and nieces.

Garza

Nicholas Daniel Garza, 27, of Crosby was born on November 24, 1980 in Baytown to Roberto and the late Audrey Garza of Dayton and died Monday, July 14, 2008 in Crosby.

He was a loving husband, father, son, brother and uncle who loved his family. He enjoyed fishing, four-wheeling, hunting and spending time with his family and friends. He was the owner of N. Garza Trucking since 2005.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Audrey Garza and grandparents Charles Kornita, Gertrude Siegel, Jose Maria Garza, and Maria de la Luz Martinez de Garza. He is survived by his wife, Leah Garza, son Nicholas Garza Jr., daughters Kaylee and Peyton Garza all of Crosby; father Roberto Garza of Dayton; brothers and their wife, Robbie and Dina Garza of Baytown, Tony and Christie Garza of Dayton, Carlos and Sarah Garza of Deer Park; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Larry and Kara Earley of Conroe; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, HJ and Kija Willis of Conroe, Shane and Beth McClenny of Baytown, Jared and Courtney Bryant of Baytown, Larry and Chanel Earley of Conroe; nieces and nephews Marissa, Lil Rob, Joshua, Kaleb, Chasidy, River, Brooke, Gavin, Zachary, Ashton, Ian, Alyssa, Jay, Kamron, Taylor, Hunter, Savannah and Madeline; and numerous other family members and a host of friends. Serving as pallbearers will be Robbie Garza, Tony Garza, Carlos Garza, Larry Earley lll, Shane McClenny, and Jared Bryant.

Honorary pallbearers will be Roberto Garza, Larry Earley Jr., Elton Cryer, Ben Cryer, Dale Fussell, Mike Hanly and Derrick Hynum.

His family will receive friends at Navarre Funeral Home in Baytown, Texas on Thursday, July 17, 2008 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be Friday, July 18, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens cemetery in Baytown, Texas.

The family requests in lieu of flowers that donations may be made at any Amegy Bank c/o Nicholas Garza Memorial.

Mills

Billy Ray Mills, 66, of Liberty died July 15, 2008 in Baytown, TX.

Services will be held on Friday, July 18, 2008 at 10 A.M. at the Allison Funeral Service Chapel in Liberty. A visitation will be held on Thursday, July 17 from 6-8 P.M. at the funeral service. Burial will be in the Guedry cemetery in Batson.

Billy was born in Houston, TX to parents Aubrey C. Mills and Edna Quinn Mills. He graduated from Milby High School. After high School he joined the United States Air Force. He served in the Air Force from 1960 to 1964 in London, England. After the service he attended college and then began his life long career in the oil field industry. Billy was an active member of the Liberty Elks Lodge, VFW, Hardin Breakfast Club, San Jacinto High Rollers and the Houston Live Stock Show and Rodeo.

He is preceded in death by his father, Aubry Mills.

Billy is survived by his wife, Bernadine Mills of Liberty, mother, Edna Mills of Magnolia, TX.; two daughters, Christi Johnson and her husband Stacy, Michelle Moyer and husband “Robbie” all of Liberty; two sons, Robert Wayne Mills and wife Glenda of Tarkington and Mark Mitchell of Tennessee; two brothers, Clifton Mills of Magnolia, and Robert Mills of Friendswood and one sister, Theresa Burnett. Also surviving are grandchildren, Nikki and Mitchell Moyer, Alice, Patrick, Rhonda, Hunter, and Ellis Mills, Mason Johnson and Rylie Johnson.

Jouette

B. E. “Ed” Jouette, Jr., 81, of Dayton died Monday, July 14, 2008 in Baytown after an extended illness. He was born April 13, 1927 in Forest Hill, Louisiana to parents: Beverly Edward Jouette, Sr. and Ruth Butter Jouette, graduating from Forest Hill High School in 1945 and attended Louisiana Business College. He served in the Merchant Marines, had been a resident of Houston for many years where he was superintendent for Arco Chemical and a former Real Estate Broker. The Jouette family moved to Dayton in 1981 where he was owner and operator of The Trinity Valley Nursery, winning the hearts of all of his local customers. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, enjoyed fishing, hunting and loved being with his family. Services for Mr. Jouette will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, July 18, 2008 at Elwood Baptist Church in Forest Hill, Louisiana with Rev. Don Stephens officiating. Interment will follow at Butters cemetery in Forest Hill. Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Thursday, July 17, 2008 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home, Dayton, Texas. Mr. Jouette was preceded in death by his parents, his grandson: Earnest A. Koehler, son-in-law: Michael Adrian, and his sister: Constance “Connie” Butter. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years: Duthel Fairchild Jouette of Dayton; his son: Steve Jouette and wife Donna of Dayton; his daughter: Pam Adrian of Forest Hill, LA; his grandchildren: Jamie Nash, Misty Brock, Maggie Adrian, Stacey Allsbrooks, and Casey Jouette; his great-grandchildren: Emily Koehler, Isadora Adrian, Ella Brock, and one on the way; his brothers: Kelly Jouette of Forest Hill, LA and Carlos Jouette of Baton Rouge, LA.; also numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Broussard

Audrey Mary Broussard was born on March 1, 1921 in Moss Bluff, Texas and died on July 12, 2008 at the age of 87.

She was the fifth of Phillip and Blanche Broussard’s 12 children. She grew up working on the family farm in Raywood, Texas. Upon leaving school, she worked as a housekeeper. She married Alton (Bay) Donatto on February 5, 1946 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Raywood. They started their married life in Chocolate Bayou, Texas. A year later, they moved back to Raywood to start their family.

Audrey was devoted to her family. She was always ready and willing to help her parents, siblings, friends, and neighbors. She was also a devout member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She was a founding member of the Altar Society and served as its original vice president, an office she held for four terms. Audrey took pride in making sure the altar linens were always perfect and everything was polished. She was in charge of the church housekeepers as well. Audrey was also active in the Ladies’ Auxiliary of St. Peter Claver. Even with this busy life of service to her family and community, she found time to continue her education and earned her GED by attending night school in 1975.

Audrey was known for her sewing abilities and her delicious gumbo, fruit cake, and pecan candy. Some of her favorite things were word puzzles, Wheel of Fortune, peppermint candies, soap operas, and her daily phone calls with her sisters. She enjoyed showing visitors her collection of plates from all over the world. It became a family tradition to give “Aunt Audrey” a graduation picture to put on the piano. She took pride in her flower beds, especially the lilies.

Audrey was preceded in death by her parents Phillip and Blanche; her husband Alton, Sr.; siblings Claude, Warren, Alvin, Peter, Melva, Doris, and Bernice.

To cherish her memory, she leaves her children: Agatha (Edward “Tick” deceased) Briscoe of Sacramento, CA, Alton, Jr. of Los Angeles, CA, Aaron (Goldie) or Baytown, TX, Frank “Al” of Kemah, TX, Phillip (Dana) of Los Angeles, CA, and Cheryl (Randall) of Humble, TX; grandchildren Allison (Michael) Smith of Oakland, CA, Robyn Donatto of Pasadena, TX, and Adam Donatto of Baytown, TX; step-grandchildren Kurt, Pam, Deirdre, Valerie, and Keith; and seven step-great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind her sisters Myrtle Eaglin, Rosalie Briscoe, and Anna Mae Kelly; her brother Allen, Sr. (Yvonne); sisters-in-law AliceKibbe, Anna Guillory, Rita Verette, Emily Broussard, Ora Donatto, and Vieva Broussard; and a host of nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations in Audrey Donatto’s memory to the Sacred Heart Altar Society, P.O. Box 430, Raywood, TX 77582.

A visitation for family and friends will be Wednesday, July 16 from 6:00 until 9:00 PM with a rosary being recited at 7:00 PM at Sterling Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, July 17 at 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Raywood, Texas with interment to follow in Sacred Heart cemetery. Stephens

Vernon Allen Stephens Sr. 68, of Dayton, Texas died July 12, 2008 at his home in Dayton

Vernon was born on September 13, 1939 in Dayton, Texas to Harrell and Gladys (Mosley) Stephens. Vernon was a heavy equipment mechanic by trade and has lived in the Dayton area all of his life. In his spare time he enjoyed hunting, fishing, shrimping, working on equipment and spending time with his family. Vernon was a very quiet and caring man that loved his family very and will be missed by all that knew him. He is preceded in death by his parents Harrell and Gladys Stephens, son Darrell Eugene Stephens, brother John Henry Stephens, and sister Gladys (Lynn) Wirick. He is survived by his son Vernon Allen Stephens Jr. and wife Darlene, son Dalton Carl Stephens, daughter Crystal Stephens Moore and husband Richard, brother Harold Stephens and wife Billy, brother Steve Stephens and wife Sandra, husband-in-law Charlie Mathews, mother of his children Linda Mathews, grandchildren; Felicia, Darryl, Vernon III, Ariel, Lynn, Montana, Nicole, great grandchildren; T.J., James, Amber, and many other relatives and friends.

A visitation for family and friends will be held Monday July 14, 2008 from 5-8pm at Sterling Funeral Home.

Graveside services will be held Tuesday July 15, 2008 10am at Magnolia cemetery in Dayton, TX.

Lowe

George Willy Lowe 64 of Saratoga died Friday July 11, 2008 in Beaumont.

Born in Scrapping Valley he lived in Saratoga most of his life and was an oilfield worker.

His wife Louise Morris Lowe preceded him in death.

Survivors are, Sons; Chris Lowe and wife Alex, James Lowe, George Lowe Jr. all of Saratoga. Daughter; Christy Loughridge and husband John of Saratoga. Brothers; Richard Lowe of Saratoga, Lewis Lowe of Goodwell La. Sisters; Belinda Parson of Saratoga, Sarah Boyd of Jasper. Eleven grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be Monday July 14, 2008 at 12:00 P.M. At Roadside Memorial Baptist Church of Saratoga. Visitation will be Sunday July 13, 2008 starting at 3:00 P.M.at the church. Interment will be at Oilfield cemetery in Saratoga.

Arrangements are under the direction of Faith and Family Funeral Services of Batson, TX.

Fregia

Sorrell R. Fregia, 24, of Hardin, died Friday, July 11, 2008, at the Liberty-Dayton Community Hospital in Liberty.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, July 15, 2008, at the North Main Baptist Church with burial following at the Guedry cemetery in Batson. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., Monday, at the Liberty Fire Station. Services are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.

Sorrell was born November 12, 1983, in Beaumont, to parents; George E. “Eddie” and Denni Melancon Fregia, and has resided in the Hardin area throughout his life.

He was a home school student, graduate of the Lamar University Fire Academy, Firefighter and EMT for the Liberty Fire Department with four years of service, member of the Racers for Christ, and auto racing driver. He also enjoyed auto racing, skiing, hunting, fishing, and going to museums.

Mr. Fregia was preceded in death by his great-grandfather: R. W. Nelson, grandmother: Marie Ray Fregia, and uncle: Donnie Simmons. He is survived by his parents: George E. “Eddie” and Denni Melancon Fregia of Hardin, sister: Vicki Tannos and husband Paul of Conroe, brother: Jamie Fregia of Devers, grandmother: Christine Hodges and husband Earl of Houston, grandfathers: James E. Fregia and wife Mae of Batson and J. E. Melancon and wife Judy of Arp, great-grandmother: Vivian Nelson of Dayton, girlfriend: Brittanee Templeton of Dayton, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Sthram

Evelyn C. Sthram 64 of Batson, died Saturday July 12, 2008 in Beaumont.

A native and life long residence of Batson she was a homemaker.

Evelyn is survived by her Husband; Gurvis Sthram Sr. of Batson, Sons; Gerald Davis and wife Pat of Liberty, Gurvis Sthram Jr and wife Nancy of Oak Island TX, Glen Sthram and wife Kitten of Batson. Daughters; Angie Collier and husband DeWayne of Saratoga, Betty Jo Sheffield and husband Lewis of Warren, Georgia Manning and husband David of Hardin, Martha Kitsmiller and husband Bobby of Colorado. Brother; Dearl Dees of Batson, Sisters; Claudine Fregia of Hull, Ann Lee and Pearl Tanner both of Batson. Grandchildren; twenty-six, great-grandchildren: thirty-one.

Funeral service will be held Tuesday July 15, 2008 at 10:00A.M. At Daisetta United Pentecostal church. Visitation will begin Monday July 14, 2008 from 4:00 P.M. Until 9:00P.M at the church. Interment will follow at Guedry cemetery in Batson.

Arrangements are under the direction of Faith and Family Funeral Services of Batson, TX.

LeBleu

Linda Sue Nixon LeBleu, 65, of Huffman, died Friday, July 11, 2008, at the North West Medical Center. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, July 14, 2008, at the Huffman cemetery in Huffman with burial following thereafter. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m., Sunday, at the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton. Linda Sue was born September 28, 1942, to parents; Robert Jolly and Mary Kathleen Slover Nixon, and has resided in the Huffman area for the past 25 years. She was a retail sales clerk for Wal-Mart in Atascocita and enjoyed fishing, hunting, sewing, and crocheting. Mrs. LeBleu was preceded in death by her parents, husband: Louis LeBleu, and sister: Lela Jo Johnson. She is survived by her son: William Reid LeBleu of Lufkin, brother: Al Nixon of Los Angeles, CA, nephew: Raymond Johnson of Dayton, friend: Jane Allen and husband Jimmy of Dayton, and numerous other relatives, and friends.

McMullan

Joseph “Jody” Denton McMullan, Jr., 74, of Devers, Texas, died Thursday, July 10, 2008.

He was born on December 31, 1933 to Joseph Denton and Althea Marcella (Cox) McMullan in Sulfur Springs, Texas. Jody was a hunter and fisherman. He enlisted as an MP in the United States Army from 1956 until 1958. While serving, one of Joseph’s duties was to fire the cannon every day, but one day he put too much gun powder in the cannon and it caught the General’s yard on fire which caused him to become a Private again. Joseph liked to be known as a “yellow dog democrat”.

Joseph was preceded in death by his parents; former-wife, Mary Davis McMullan; son, Randy McMullan; and grandson, Blaz McMullan. He is survived by his loving wife, Sue McMullan; children, Becky Kaemmerling and husband Charles of Hull, Kathy McGlasson and husband Kenny of Liberty, Jay McMullan and wife Robin of Humble, Jeff Huckaby and wife Lorilyn of Nome, Jay Huckaby of Orange, and Joy Melancon and husband Coy of Devers; brothers, Tommy McMullan and wife Ruth of Devers, Danny McMullan and wife Deborah of Dubach, Louisiana, and David McMullan of Mt. Belvieu; 17 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

A visitation for family and friends will be from 5:00 until 8:00 PM Sunday, July 13 at Allison Funeral Service. A service of remembrance will be held at 10:00 AM Monday, July 14 at Allison Funeral Service with interment to follow in Stacy cemetery in Devers.
