Loretta Lois Gilmore Votaw, 71, of Dayton, Texas, died Friday, December 14, 2007, at San Jacinto Hospital in Baytown. Services will be held Tuesday, December 18 2:00 pm at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel, Dayton. Interment will follow at French cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm Monday evening at the funeral home. Loretta was born, February 13, 1936, in Harris County, Texas, to parents Authur and Vera Lamb Gilmore. She was a lifelong resident of the Dayton area. Loretta was a homemaker and a devoted wife and mother. Mrs. Votaw was preceded in death by her parents and husband, James Junior Votaw. She is survived by her sons: David Votaw and wife Theresa, of Cleveland; Ronald Votaw and wife Wanda of Kenefick; Richard Votaw and wife Tina, of Kenefick; daughter Cindy Votaw of Kenefick; sisters: Charlotte Oslow of Baytown; Patricia Nance of Baytown, Glenda Rush of Baytown, grandchildren, Christina Sanford, Maryanne Cooper, Angie Hardin, James Votaw, Tom Votaw, Nikki Votaw, Jacob Votaw, Hannah Votaw and Wayne Votaw. Ten grandchildren and an eleventh on the way.

Campbell

Lucille “Johnnie” Terrell Campbell, 72, of Tarkington Prairie, died Friday, December 14, 2007, at the Liberty-Dayton Community Hospital in Liberty. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, December 17, 2007, at the Ryan cemetery in Tarkington Prairie with burial following thereafter. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to noon, Monday, at the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton. Johnnie was born January 9, 1935 in Tarkington Prairie, to parents; Luther and Shirley Kay Berry Terrell, and has resided in the Tarkington Prairie area throughout her life. She was a homemaker and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Mrs. Campbell was preceded in death by her parents, husband: J. C. Henderson, and brothers: Cecil Ross Terrell and Bennie Terrell. She is survived by her son: Ralph Campbell of Dayton, daughter: Abbie Campbell of Tarkington Prairie, nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, sisters: Ruby Diehl of Dayton and Edith Noack of Marque, brothers: Luther Terrell of Tarkington Prairie and Lloyd Terrell of Baytown, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Abshere

Little Rebecca Ann Abshere, the three year old daughter of Ella Cates and James Abshere died Saturday afternoon, December 8, 2007. Little Rebecca was born in Cleveland, Texas, on December 29, 2007. She was a very affectionate child with two shining eyes and a beautiful smile.

The family she leaves behind are parents; grandparents, Ruth and Glen Cates, Betty Spurlock, Bobby Spurlock, Walter Emerson; sister, Shelby Leann Abshere; uncles, T.J. Abshere, Dennis Jordan, Billy Heck, James Cates, Jess Cates, Derrick Foster, Jacob McGough, Jammie, Dee Cleveland; aunts, Rachel Evans, Glenda McGough, Jammie Abshere, Brandi Abshere, Amanda Foster, Lori Lane; brothers, Cameron Lee Cates Drissel, Charles Dean Drissel, Jr.; cousins, Shay-Shay, Deann, Kassidy, Cora, Olivia, Madison, Micky, Adrean, Jolynn, Makaylah, Michael, Matthew, Bradly, and Hay-Hay.

Pastor Peggy Sue Wright conducted memorial services held Thursday, December 13, 2007, 4:00 p.m. at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel.

Sirman

Helen Jewel Sirman of Liberty, died December 11, 2007 at the Liberty Health Care Center in Liberty, TX. She was a seamstress by trade and work with the Dixie Casket Company for many years. She enjoyed spending her time for the last few years coloring and playing Bingo. She was born in Provencal, LA. where she completed her schooling. She was a member of the Assembly of God Church.

Helen is preceded in death by her parents, Alex and Annie Michwich. She is survived by her children, Julie Beckman and husband David of Hardin, David Sirman of Pearland, TX and Betty Germany Long and husband Doug of Dayton and step-children, Maureen McCafferty of Houston and Gene Sirman of Houston. Grandchildren, Rachael Sirman, Terra Barclay, Justin Beckman, Vanessa Everett and David F. Sirman and great-grandson, Trey Everett, as well as 6 step-grandchildren also survive.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, December 13, 2007 at 10 A.M. at the Hardin Chapel cemetery in Hardin.

Fregia

Gladys Doucette Fregia of Batson, went home to be the Lord on Tuesday, December 11, 2007 at Christus Saint Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont, TX.

She was a homemaker and enjoyed canning, cooking, especially her Banana Pudding, holidays with the family and watching her favorite games show on television. Gladys was a member of the First Baptist Church of Batson.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Rosie Doucette and her husband, Dan Fregia. She is survived by her children, James Russell Fregia and wife Maxine of Rockport, TX, W.P. “Bill” Fregia and wife Nel of Batson, Walter Glen Fregia of Baytown, David Earl Fregia and wife Marsha of Batson, Ina Mae Whiteley and husband Butch of Batson, Thomas Dan Fregia and wife Ruth Ann of Batson and Jeanette Mosley and husband Randy of Batson. Nineteen grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren, friends and other relatives also survive.

Services will be held on Friday, December 14, 2007 at the Batson Prairie Baptist Church in Batson at 11 A.M. Burial will follow at the Guedry cemetery in Batson. Rev. James Coots and Rev. Lee Gruver will officiate. There will be a visitation for family and friends held on Thursday, December 11 from 5 P.M. to 8 P.M. at the Batson Prairie Baptist Church.

Fielder

Guy Edward Fielder, 97, of Liberty, Texas, died December 7, 2007 at the Liberty-Dayton Community Hospital.

Guy was born on October 26, 1910 in Batson, Texas, to parents Richmond and Stella Kingsberry Fielder. Guy had lived in the Liberty area all of his life. He was a retired pipeline worker in the petrochemical industry. Guy was of the Baptist faith and a very devoted member of the Masonic Lodge in Hull, Texas. In his spare time he enjoyed woodworking and photography.

Guy is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Hazel Jordan Fielder, brothers, Richard Glen Fielder and Curtis Virgil Fielder and sister Barbara McNeil. He is survived by his nephews Kenneth Fielder and wife Bessie, Wesley Curtis Fielder and wife Linda, nieces Glenda Kneblic, Janice Fielder and many other relatives and friends.

Visitation for family and friends will be held Monday night December 10, 2007 at the Allison Funeral Service, Liberty, Texas, from 5pm until 8pm. Funeral Services will be Tuesday, December 11, 2007 at 10:00am at Central Baptist Church in Daisetta, Texas, with Reverend Jimmy Van Dorn officiating. Interment will follow in Guedry cemetery, Batson, Texas.

Sherman

Gerald C. Sherman, Jr., 72, of Wallisville, died Saturday, December 8, 2007, at his residence.

Memorial services will be held at 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 11, 2007, at the Crespo-Jirrels Funeral Chapel in Baytown.

Visitation will be held from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., Tuesday at the funeral home prior to services.

Services are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral in Dayton.

Gerald was born March 16, 1935 in Evergreen, to parents; Gerald C., Sr. and Jewel E. Wilkerson Sherman, a former resident of Baytown, and has resided in the Wallisville area for the past 46 years.

He was a graduate of the Robert E. Lee High School class of 1954, attended Lee College, was a retired millwright from USX Steel of Baytown, and Birmingham, AL, member of the Eminence Baptist Church, a 32nd degree member of the Cedar Bayou Masonic Lodge #321 AF & AM, and enjoyed his grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Mr. Sherman was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years: Shirley Stepleton Sherman of Wallisville, sons: Billy Earl Sherman and wife Lucille of Wallisville, David L. Sherman and wife Kimberley of Hankamer, and Lance D. Sherman of Wallisville, seven grandchildren: Stephanie Sherman Brasher, Heather Sherman Lanferman, David Logan Sherman, Kathryn Sherman, Cort David Sherman, Madison Sherman, and Conrad Sage Sherman, six great-grandchildren, brother: Billy D. Sherman and wife Jan of Baytown, brother-in-law: P. G. Stepleton and wife Judy of Blanco, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

In lieu of usual floral remembrances, the family requests that donations be made to the Eminence Baptist Church Building Fund at HC 2 Box 127A, Liberty, Texas 77575.

Tipton

John Charles Tipton, 68, of Liberty, Texas, died Friday, December 07, 2007. He was born on October 27, 1939 in Washington, D.C., to Emmitt and Lucille (Ennis) Tipton. John loved to fish, tend to his garden, and cook. He was a member of the Moss Bluff Volunteer Fire Department. He was also an avid football fan.

John is preceded in death by his parents and son, Gary Stacy Tipton. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary (Luckenbaugh) Tipton; children, Kim Wills and husband Wynn of Nederland, Donald Troy Tipton and wife Paula of Vidor, Donna Evans and husband David of Devers, Tracy Allen Tipton and wife Karen of Vidor; sister, Betty Mae Garner of Fredericksburg, Virginia; brother, Robert Sumbury; grandchildren, John Jennings and wife Erica, Christopher Jennings and wife Megan, Gary Tipton and wife Alisa, Wesley Tipton, Sarah Tipton, Kari Evans, Bryan Evans and wife Shanda, Steven Tipton, and Jessica Tipton; great-grandchild, Blake Tipton; and numerous more nieces, nephews and friends.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, December 12, 2007 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Liberty, Texas.

Brents

Thomas Boyd Brents, 89, of Liberty, Texas, died Thursday, December 6, 2007. He was born on October 29, 1918 near Whitefield, Oklahoma, at the bottom of Beaver Mountain to Jeff Otto and Ola (Grace) Brents. Thomas was an athlete growing up. He played football and baseball in high school and in college at Texas Wesleyan. After college he even played some semi-pro baseball. After living through the tough times of the depression, Thomas joined the United States Army. He was a drill sergeant that trained troops during WWII. After serving in active duty, Thomas then served three years in the Army Reserves. Thomas was employed as a special tools operator at Halliburton for 43 years. Later in life, Thomas liked to barbecue and fish with his grandchildren. He was a loving father and husband, and was a member of Heights Baptist Church.

Thomas is preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Forest Brents, Louie Brents, Herman Brents, and Leon Brents; sister, Yvonne Lusk; and daughter, Colleene Adair Brents. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Jewel (Perkins) Brents; children, Yvonne Rodgers of Baytown, Steve Brents and wife Margaret of Liberty, Jeff Brents and wife Lee Ann of Liberty, Jerry Brents of Baytown, Rockney Brents of Liberty, and Rodney Brents of Liberty; grandchildren, Shonna Osborn and husband Casey of Hardin, Thomas B. Brents and wife Whitney of Liberty, Tara Lee Rodgers of Pasadena, Jerry Frank Brents of Liberty, Jeffery Brents of Liberty, Michael Brents of Liberty, Meghan King, and Dawn Wilson; two great-grandchildren; and numerous more nieces, nephews and friends.

A visitation for family and friends will be from 5:00 until 8:00 PM Saturday, December 8, at Allison Funeral Service.

A service of remembrance will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, December 9, at Heights Baptist Church in Liberty, with Rev. Tim Gruver and Rev. Lee Perkins officiating.

Marquardt

Margarette (Craven) Marquardt, 88, of Liberty, Texas died December 6, 2007 in Liberty.

Margarette was born on November 27, 1919 in Liberty, Texas, to Buford and Ruby (Luckey) Craven. Margarette has lived in the Liberty area all of her life and was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Liberty. Margarette worked as a cashier for a local grocery store for many years and in her spare time she enjoyed crocheting, walking, taking care of people and spending time with her family. Margarette was a very honest and sincere person who was very dedicated to her family and her church; she will be missed by all that knew her.

Margarette is preceded in death by her parents Buford and Ruby Craven, husband Robert “Bob” Marquardt and grandson David Williamson. She is survived by her daughter Juanita Mosley and husband James A., son Herman Marquardt and wife Iris, daughter Carrie Williamson and husband Don, son William Marquardt and wife Linda, sister Reta Craver, grandchildren; Janet Pee-Wee, Debbie, Kenneth, Larry, Theresa, Melanie, Daniel, Bryan, Jody, great grandchildren; Christi, Randy, Danielle, Tyler, Leah, Ethan, Jessica, Caitlin, great great grandchildren; Noah, Paige, and many other relatives and friends. A visitation for family and friends will be held at Allison Funeral Service Sunday December 9, 2007 from 5-8pm with a rosary at 7pm. A funeral mass will be held Monday December 10, 2007 10am at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Liberty, Texas with interment following at the Catholic cemetery in Liberty.

Stidham

Justin Ryan “JuJu” Stidham, 23, of Trinity, died Wednesday, December 5, 2007, in Lovelady.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, December 8, 2007, at the First Baptist Church of Crosby, with burial following at the White cemetery in Highlands.

Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., Friday, at the Sterling-White Chapel Funeral Home in Highlands.

Services are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton. Justin was born February 22, 1984, in Houston, to parents; Billy Stidham and Kimber Anderson, a former resident of Crosby, and has resided in the Trinity area for the past six months.

He was a graduate of the Crosby High School class of 2002, a correctional officer for the TDCJ Lovelady Unit, member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles #3098, and enjoyed volunteering for TDCJ activities, 4-wheelers, playing games, hunting, fishing, and his dogs.

Mr. Stidham is survived by his wife: Angela Sheppard-Stidham of Trinity, father: Billy Stidham and wife Jackie of Crosby, mother: Kim Oravetz and husband Ed of Friendswood, siblings: Jared Stidham of Crosby, Amy Stidham of Crosby, Ian Oravetz of Friendswood, Trey Stidham of Crosby, and Coleman Oravetz of Friendswood, grandparents: Billy and Pat Stidham of Jacinto City, Sharon Hart of Hill Top Lakes, Madeline and Herman Najera of Jacinto City, and Lynda Tanner of Baytown, aunt: Sheryl Orn of Friendswood, and numerous aunts, uncles, other relatives, and friends.

Berryhill

Elizabeth Berryhill, age 71, died Wednesday at San Jacinto Methodist Hospital with her family by her side.

She was born in Dayton, TX, August 14, 1936 the daughter of the late Jim and Mernervia (Brown) Crockett. She last worked at Liberty/Dayton Hospital as a cook where she retired in 1997 with over twenty years of service. She continued to maintain her strong support of the Texas High School Rodeo Association.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband Jim Berryhill, son Jim Edward Berryhill, brother Davy Crockett, sister Sue Reed and two great-grandchildren.

She leaves behind her children Renee Woodin of Hardin, John Berryhill of Dayton and Billy Berryhill of Hardin. In addition she leaves a brother J.L. Crockett of Dayton, ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held Friday from 5pm-8pm at the Sterling Funeral Home, 602 N. Main St., Dayton, TX. Funeral services to be held at the funeral home Saturday 10am with burial to follow in Hardin Chapel cemetery.

Hane

Robert ‘Bob’ Allen Hane, age 60, of Liberty, died Saturday, December 1, 2007 at his home in Liberty. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

A native of West Jefferson, Ohio, he was born on June 6, 1947 to Hughie McDowell and Viola Shockley McDowell. He joined the military after high school and located in south Texas several years later. Bob was a pipe fitter fabricator before becoming disabled. He enjoyed fishing hunting and a good cold drink.

Bob is preceded in death by his parents and his best friend: Fred E. Meshell.

Survivors are his children: Dwayne Hane of Corbin, KY, Pam Gaudill of Corbin, KY, Michael Rhodes of Columbus, OH, Shirley Bowen and Stephanie Dobbs, of OH, sisters: Jerri Righter, of Columbus, OH, Barbara Brown of Corbin, KY, Linda Halley of Columbus, OH., Sarah Hulitt of Delaware, OH, Diane Weaver of Columbus, OH., brothers: Ron Slagle of Athens, OH, Hughie McDonald of Athens, OH, Ted McDowell, of Columbus, OH, and Jim McDowell of Columbus, OH, and a host of other family members and friends.

Hancock

Norma Mae Hancock, 92, of Cleveland, died Monday, December 2, 2007 in Livingston Convalescent Home.

Norma was born December 22, 1914 to parents James and Leah Laid in Angelina County, Texas.

Norma was blessed with a long life. She was an active member of Bethel Assembly of God in Cleveland. She loved reading and had an active mind. She worked many years in restaurants and dry cleaning establishments.

She is preceded in death by three husbands, Tom Hodge, Wood Sweeney, and John Hancock. Also, by three sons Tom Clayton, Hardy, and John R. (David) Hodge, 5 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren.

She is survived by her loving daughter Leah Mae Ormsbee and husband Billie, her devoted son Gerald Hodge and wife Brenda, and daughter-in-law Mary Ann Hodge, 23 grandchildren, 62 great grandchildren, and 30 great-great grandchildren. Also survived by one brother O B Laird and wife Faye, and only sister Natha Lee Parrot. And numerous nieces and nephews, and a host of good friends.

Visitation will be at the Rosewood Funeral Home in Porter on Tuesday, December 4, 2007 from 5 – 9PM with services at Bethel Assembly of God Church in Cleveland at 10:30 Wednesday, December 5, 2007 interment to follow at Pace Stancil Memorial Gardens in Cleveland.

Burney

J. D. Burney Jr., age 83, of Liberty, TX, died Friday, November 30, 2007 in a Houston Hospital.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 3, 2007, at the Allison Funeral Service Chapel 1101 North Travis Street, Liberty, Texas 77575 at 10:00 A, .M., with the Reverend Harold Pope officiating, with burial in the Oakdale cemetery, Daisetta, TX.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, December 2, 2007 at Allison Funeral Service from 5:00 P.M., until 8:00 P.M.

J. D. was born on February 10, 1924 to J. D. Burney, Sr., and Doris Mary Paxton Burney in Hull, TX. He graduated from the Hull-Daisetta High School in 1941 and joined the Army serving in the south Pacific area. He worked in the oil field as a pipe fitter out of Union 211 of Houston, TX.

J. D. is preceded in death by his parents, and a brother: Robert P. Burney. The survivors are his wife of 14 years, Charleen Elizabeth Smith Burney, of Liberty, Children: Edreae Hufford of Hardin, TX., Linda Ellis of Houston, TX., Kathye Taylor and husband Robert of Virginia, Eddie Hughes and wife Shari of Houston, TX., a brother V. E. Burney and wife Shirley of Liberty, TX, a sister-in-law: Rita Burney, and numerous grand children and great grandchildren and a host of other family members and friends.

Martin

William Carlos “W.C.” Martin, 65, of Dayton, died Wednesday, November 29, 2007, at his residence.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, December 1, 2007, at the Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel with burial following at a later date in Selma, AL. Services are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.

W.C. was born October 21, 1942 in Lamison, AL, to parents; Carl R. Martin and Irene Dyson, and has resided in the Dayton area for the past 25 years. He was a former millwright, and a retired carpenter, veteran of the US Army, and enjoyed woodworking and collecting knives.

Mr. Martin was preceded in death by his father: Carl R. Martin, mother: Irene Dyson Mosley, and brother: Richard G. Martin. He is survived by his daughter: Michelle Folse and husband Dwayne of Des Allemands, LA, son: Brian Martin, five grandchildren: Dakota, Cierra, and Kanyon Folse, and Austin and Tyler Martin, and numerous other relatives, and friends.
