Linnie Mae Key, 88, of Liberty, Texas died Sunday, November 11, 2007. She was born on March 26, 1919 in Mount Rose, Texas to Eli Hugh and Susan Samantha (Richardson) Alcorn. Linnie loved to quilt, fish, and can foods.

Linnie is preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband of 32 years, Howard Key; daughters, Vallie McDonald, Norma Jean Leonard, and Sue McGraw. She is survived by her sons, John Odom and wife Barbara of Liberty and Craig Odom and wife Hazel of Port Neches; daughters, Connie Lopez of Dayton and Patsy Vacha and husband Kevin of Liberty; seventeen grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and numerous more nieces, nephews and friends.

A visitation for family and friends will be from 5:00 until 8:00 PM, November 12 at Allison Funeral Service. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM, November 13 at Allison Funeral Service with interment to follow in Holly Grove cemetery in Holly Grove, Texas.

Tristan

Josephine “Josie” Canales Tristan, 54, of Liberty, Texas died Tuesday, November 13, 2007. She was born on March 19, 1953 in Portland, Texas to Manuel and Eva (Salazar) Canales. Josie liked to paint, sew and do crafts. She was a member of Mount Calvary Baptist Church. Above all, she loved to take care of her children and grandchildren.

Josie was preceded in death by her parents; loving husband, Hilario Tristan, Jr.; brothers, Valentine Canales and Antonio Canales; and sister, Janie Gonzales. She is survived by her sons, Hilario Tristan III and wife Sylvia of Hardin, Micheal Tristan and wife Roxanne of Deer Park, Benito Tristan and wife Dyleena of Hardin, and Nathaniel Tristan and fiancé Lauren of Liberty; daughters, Sandy Sizemore and husband James of Moss Hill and Renee Tristan and fiancé Daron of Vidor; sisters, Hilda Romero and husband Joe of Brazoria, Odelia Brown and husband John of Moss Hill, and Elizabeth Sandate of Corpus Christi; brothers, Pete Canales and wife Josephina of Portland, Jesse Canales of Bay City, and Gilbert Lozano of Frankfurt, Indiana; grandchildren, Matthew, Bryan, Josh, Manuel, Dylnn, Gerardo, Robert, Dameon, Hilario IV, Brittney, Hillary, Hannah, Anna, Shanice, Dinah, Krystie, and Elyssa; great-grandchildren, Kyleisha and Kayleish; and numerous more nieces, nephews and friends.

A visitation for family and friends will be Thursday, November 15 from 6:00 until 9:00 PM at Sterling Funeral Home. A service of remembrance will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, November 16 at Sterling Funeral Home with interment to follow in Palms Memorial Park cemetery.

Huffman

Ida Pearl Huffman, age 91, of Porter, Texas, died Saturday, November 10, 2007. She was born in Latexo, Texas on October 2, 1916 to Robert and Minnie Stapp. She is preceded by both parents; and her loving husband, Dell E. Huffman.

Survivors included her daughters, Patsy Lois Wilkinson, Betty Baker and husband, Frank; grandchildren, Patty and husband, Johnny Thibodeaux, Sharlett and husband, Mike Buckner, Rhonda and husband, Joe Acrey, Terri and husband, Terry Weeks, Sandy and husband, Scott McKinney, Rhonda and husband, Chuck Lange, Greg Williams, James and wife, Zule Hill, Frank Jr. and wife, Kim Baker, Brandy and husband, Sergio Battlistella; nineteen great-grandchildren; eleven great-great-grandchildren; sister, Jewel Manning; brother, Jesse Stapp; numerous nieces and nephews with many other loving and caring family members and cherished friends.

Visitation will be held Monday, November 12, 2007, 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home, Cleveland, Texas. Funeral services were held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 13, 2007, Triumph Christian Center, Porter, Texas with interment New Zion cemetery, Trinity, Texas.

Williams

James “Doug” Williams, 61, proud veteran of the Vietnam War, died Veteran’s Day, Sunday, November 11, 2007.

He is preceded in death by his father, James Williams, mother, Gladys Williams, and sister, Margaret Ann Buchanan. Survivors include his loving wife, Lynda Williams; children, Andy Williams of Magnolia, Dennis Williams and wife, Kellie of Tomball, Caroline Williams, Hayley Williams of Magnolia, James Bible of Cleveland, Michelle Bible of Cleveland, Melissa Bible of Spring; and six grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Yvonne Bowman and husband, Tom of Colorado.

Visitation will be held 5:00 to 9:00 Tuesday, November 13, 2007, Pace-Stancil Funeral Home.

Bro. Carl Lundberg will conduct funeral services at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel, 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 14, 2007 with interment following at Houston National cemetery 2:15 p.m.

Sosa

Sofia Sosa, 66 of Cleveland, Texas, died Monday, November 5, 2007.

She is survived by her devoted and loving sons, Arturo Sosa and wife, Rosario, Esteban Sosa, Francisco Sosa and wife, Tamara, Miguel Sosa and wife, Rachel; sister, Jovita Villanueva; grandchildren, Ryvers Soledad Sosa, Steven Sosa; numerous nieces, nephews and many other loving and caring family members and cherished friends.

She was born in Mexico on August 20, 1941. Memorial services were held Saturday, November 10, 2007, 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Cleveland, Texas.

Jackson

Millie Jackson, 93, died, Wednesday, November 7, 2007. She was born in Manning, Texas on May 27, 1914.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Daniel Jackson; and her son, James Mitchell Jackson.

She is survived by her sister, Dollie Wilson; sister-in-law, Bobbie DuBose; nephews, Dickie DuBose, Carl Mills and wife, Sammye Kay, B.J. DuBose and wife, Diana, Tom Cruz, James Edward Lum; niece, Judy Maness and husband, Rick; grandsons, Daniel Jackson, Michael Jackson; granddaughters, Jackie Jackson, Suzanne Jackson; numerous cherished friends.

Graveside services are being held at Poland cemetery, Zavalla, Texas on Friday, November 9, 2007, 2:00 p.m.

Hopkins

Funeral Service for Brian Keith Hopkins, 29, of Anahuac, Texas will be held Saturday, November 10, 2007 at 11:00 A.M. at St. James Methodist Church in Anahuac, with burial in Raymond cemetery, Wallisville, Texas.

A native of Anahuac he was a laborer. He died October 31, 2007 at Triumph Hospital in Houston after an illness.

Visitation will be held at the church from 9:A.M. until time of service.

He is survived by his father: Raymond E. Bailey, his mother Wilma A. Hopkins; two brothers: Lee M. Hopkins and Darian Jackson; one sister: Antoinette Hopkins, his Godmother Etelen Balackshire, his grandfather Alfred Ricks and a host of other relatives and friends.

White

Funeral Service for Ceola Huery White, 82, of Dayton, Texas, will be held Monday, November 12, 2007 at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Dayton, Texas, with the Reverend R. J. Revels, Sr. officiating with burial in Wells Memorial cemetery.

A native of Madisonville, Texas, she was a security guard, and a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church.

She died Monday, November 5, at her residence after an illness.

Visitation will be held at the church Monday from 9 Am until time of service.

She is survived by three daughters: Linda S. Dugat of Dayton, Patsy C. St. Julian of Houston, and Margaret A. Brown of Missouri City; three brothers: George Huery, Jr. and Ennis Jones, both of Dayton and Gene Huery of Houston and a host of other relatives and friends.

Smikal

Eleanor “Yvonne” Smikal, age 68 died peacefully November 05, 2007.

She was born Oct. 4, 1939 in Houston, TX the daughter of the late Elic Theodore Bryan Sr. and Will Eleanor Edwards Bryan.

Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband Jessie in 1991 and a brother Teddy Bryan.

She was raised in Channelview and later moved to Dayton. She enjoyed traveling, gardening and designing her home. She leaves behind her son Paul Smikal, cousin Melvin Edwards and a close friend Patsy Wells, in addition she leaves numerous other family members and friends.

A graveside service will be held Saturday at 10am in Palms Memorial Park, with Anton Smikal officiating.

Higginbotham

Harold Levon Higginbotham, age 79, of Dayton, TX., died Monday, November 5, 2007 in a Baytown Hospital.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 8, 2007 at the Sterling Funeral Home in Dayton, TX., with the Pastor Randy Piatt and Rev. Toby Ratcliff officiating. Burial will follow in the Magnolia Park cemetery, Dayton, TX., with full military honors under the auspices of the Noland D. Pickett Post # 5621 VFW, of Liberty, TX. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 07, 2007, at the Sterling Funeral Home from 5 pm until 8 pm.

Mr. Higginbotham was born on August 6, 1928 in Philadelphia MS., to Marshall B. Higginbotham and Macy Myrtle Clark Higginbotham. He joined the U.S. Marines. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Dayton, TX., and was a Tool Pusher for the Trans World Company of Morgan City, LA.

He is preceded in death by his parents and five brother and sisters. He is survived by his wife: Florence H. Ricks Higginbotham, two sons: Marshall B. and wife Charlene Higginbotham II, Terry and wife Lanell Higginbotham, daughter: Suzy Ratcliff and husband Toby, a brother: Ernest Higginbotham, three sisters:Maureen Harris, Beatrice Odom, and Ardell Bozarth, eight grandchildren: Brady Higginbotham, Heith Higginbotham, Kacey Sandefur, Sherelyn Johnson, Lonnie Ratcliff, Chris Ratcliff, Stephen Ratcliff, and Shawn Ratcliff, and five great grandchildren: Lillian Ratcliff, Luke Johnson, Levi Johnson, Landon Johnson, and Cody Allen Sandefur, and a host of other family members and friends.

Krenek

Born March 6, 1918 in Devers, TX the third of nine children born to Allie Lee Callihan and Era Clayton Callihan Norma Rhea Callihan Krenek died Wednesday, November 7, 2007 at the Liberty-Dayton Hospital in Liberty, TX.

Norma went to work at Yettie Kersting Memorial Hospital in 1949 in the admitting office the year before the “new” hospital, now known as Liberty-Dayton Hospital, opened in 1950. She loved hospital, the work and the friendships she made during that time. She was in charge of the Medical Records Department when the hospital became accredited by the Joint Commission for the first time. This honor is given to hospitals that attained excellence in all departments. She worked hard for this accreditation and achieved it every year prior to her retirement in 1983. She retired after 34 years of service.

She is preceded in death by her husband Victor Krenek, her parents, three sisters and two brothers.

She is survived by one brother, A.O. Callahan and wife Bonnie of Amelia; sister Evelyn Markby of Beaumont, Iris Whittington and husband Horace of Devers; two sisters-in-law, Marie Beck and Evelyn Zeigler and husband, Rusty of Houston, in addition to one brother-in-law, Walter Krenek of Columbus. Norma is also survived by two sons, Rodney Baldwin and wife Jimmie Dell of Beaumont, Vic “Peanut” Krenek and wife, Kathy and one daughter, Sharron Farris all of Liberty. four grandchildren; James Harris and fiancé’, Patti of Austin, Paul Harris of Seabrook, Kim Haddock, Greg Baldwin and wife Kelly of Katy; great-grandchildren, Michael Wells, Preston Harris, Rheagan Haddock and Grant Baldwin. Numerous nieces and nephews as well as many special friends, Susan Williams, Beth Harwell and Deborah Williams from Angels Above Us as well as her “adopted in heart” children, Linda Mann, Sharon Dunn, Gene Leake and David Miller.

A visitation will be held at Allison Funeral Home in Liberty, TX from 6 P.M. to 8 P.M. on Thursday, November 8 with a graveside service at 2 P.M. on Friday, November 9 at Stacey’s Memorial cemetery in Devers. Rev. Ron Davis of the First Baptist Church of Liberty will officiate.

Richards

G B Richards, 84, of Splendora, Texas, died Sunday, November 4, 2007. He was born in Bedias, Texas on January 5, 1923.

Survivors include his daughters, Sheila Cunningham and husband, Leonard, Katrina Sapegin and husband, Alex; sons, Ray Richards, Clint Richards and wife, Sandy; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other loving family members and caring friends.

Visitation starts Tuesday, November 6, 2007, 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 7, 2007, 2:00 p.m. at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel, Cleveland, Texas with interment at Methodist cemetery in Bedias, Texas.

Rodriguez

George Luis Rodriguez, Jr., 21, of Huntsville, Texas died Saturday, November 3, 2007. He was born on April 3, 1986 to George Luis Rodriguez and Cynthia (Ellis) Murton in Houston, Texas. George served his country in The United States Navy. He was a music lover that liked to play video games and play on his computer. In junior high and high school he was active in the L.O.T.C. and R.O.T.C.

George is preceded in death by his step-grandfather, Harry Thompson and aunt, Maggie Rodriguez. He is survived by his wife, Jillian Robinson Rodriguez; parents, Cynthia and John Murton, Jr.; brothers, David Rodriguez, Charles Hogan, John Murton III, and baby brother Nicholas George Murton; sisters, Vanessa and Brianna Rodriguez; biological father, George Luis Rodriguez; grandmother, Alicia; grandparents, Patricia and Bob Mullen and Johnny and Corliss Ellis; great-grandmother, Vivian; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

A visitation for family and friends will be from 5:00 until 7:00 PM Tuesday, November 06 at Sterling Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, November 7 at Sterling Funeral Home with interment to follow in Palms cemetery.

Koonce

Nina R. Koonce, 79, of Cleveland, Texas, died Saturday, November 3, 2007. She was born in Tarrent Co., Texas on October 19, 1928.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Leo Koonce; parents, Lionel and Zula Pittman; brother, Hubert Pittman. Survivors include his sons, Carl Newman, Jr., Milton Newman; grandchildren, Brandi Chapman and husband, Jeff, Jake Newman, Nikki Metzler and husband, Jason; great-grandchilden, Carlie Brooke Chapman, Ryley Staton, and Kelley Chapman; sisters, Nona Morgan and husband, Terry, Charlie Ipes and husband, Don, Lynell Brooks and Rick Soltis, Dorothy Boucher and husband, James; brothers, Herbert A. Pittman and wife, Mary, Joann Nelson; numerous nieces and nephews along with many other loving and caring family members and cherished friends.

Visitation starts Tuesday, November 6, 2007, 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home, Cleveland, Texas. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 7, 2007, 11:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church, Cleveland, Texas with interment at Morgan cemetery.

Hawthorne

Edna Hawthorne, 95, of Shepherd, Texas, died on Tuesday, October 30, 2007. She was born in Shepherd, Texas and was a lifetime resident of Shepherd born on July 8, 1912. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Harvey Arthur Hawthorne; daughter Clara Eloise Hawthorne, grandson, Harvey Edward Hawthorne, Jr.; sisters, Elvie Viola Reeves, Alice Gertude Hood, Mattie Irene Beene, Mary Agnes Hawthorne, Vera Mae Sammons; brothers, Charlie Monroe Taylor, Robert Hardin Taylor, Joe Hubert Taylor.

Survivors include her son, Harvey Edward Hawthorne, Sr. and wife, Faye; grandchildren, Donald Gwen Hawthorne and wife, Glinda Yvonnne, Carla Renee Hoard and husband, Carol Denise; great-grandchildren, Holly Renee Harrison and husband, Jason Warron, Erin Yvonne Goad and husband, Roy Dean, II, Scott Allen Hoard, Brandi Leann Hoard, great-great-grandchild, Ally Nicole Fountain; her loving caregivers, Kathy Booker, Geneva Goodwin; numerous nieces and nephews, other loving family members and a host of friends beyond measure.

Jones

Funeral Services for Nellyne Tebo Jones, 73, of Houston, Texas, will be held Thursday, November 1, 2007 at St. Miles Missionary Baptist Church, Ames, Texas, with the Reverend Dwight Pruitt, officiating with burial in Wells Memorial cemetery.

A native of Liberty, she was a nurse, a graduate of Liberty Training High School, and a member of St. Miles Baptist Church.

She died Sunday, October 28, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Houston after an illness.

Visitation will be held at the church Thursday from 9 Am until time of service.

She is survived by two daughters: Gloria Tebo Childress and Julia Tebo Nearing both of Houston; three step-daughters: Beverly Cooper, also of Houston, Alicia Jones, and Carolyn Siner, of Liberty; three brothers: Rogers Braxton, Sr., Lawrence Braxton and Marcellis Braxton all of Liberty; three sisters: Audrey Lane, Carol Arceneaux, and Rosiland Medlow all of Houston; and a host of other family and friends.

Funeral Services for Charley Marks, 71, of Opelousas, Louisiana, will be held Saturday, November 3, 2007 at Trinity Valley Missionary Baptist Church, Liberty, Texas, with the Reverend Marvin Etheridge officiating with burial in Wells Memorial cemetery.

A native of Opelousas, Louisiana, he was a construction worker.

He died Wednesday, October 24, 2007 at Orange Baptist Hospital in Orange, Texas.

Visitation will be held Saturday from 9 am until time of service at the church.

He is survived by his wife Cinderella Williams, of Beaumont, Texas; two sons: Patrick Williams of Liberty and Jerome Williams of Beaumont; two daughters: Juanita Boone of Missouri City, Texas and Latonya Williams of Beaumont. two brothers: Dallas Williams of Baton Rouge, Louisiana and James Johnson of Port Arthur, Texas; six grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
