Young

Funeral Service for Dorothy Jean Prater Young, 71, was held Saturday, October 27, 2007 at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Dayton, Texas, with the Reverend R. H. Gilmore, officiating Eulogy delivered by Rev. Dwight Pruitt, with burial in Acie cemetery, Dayton, Texas.

A native of Dayton, she graduate from Colbert High School.

She retired from Dayton Independent School District where she worked for 46 years.

Visitation was held from 9 am until time of service at the church.

She is survived by four sons: Rickey Young, Larry Young, Richard Young and Christ Young, all of Dayton; three daughters: Lynda Young, Charlotte Butler and Consuella Young, all of Dayton; two brothers: Riley Moss of Ames and Kelvin Moss of Dayton; nineteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

Dobbins

Billy Dobbins, 66, of 133 Forest Dr., Liberty, Texas, formerly of New Lexington, Ohio died in the early morning, Sunday October 28, 2007 at his residence.

Born September 14, 1941 in Sunbury, Ohio, he retired from Texas Eastern (Duke Energy) where he was a supervisor. Bill was Free Methodist by faith, he had served his country in the US Navy and was a member of Masonic Lodge #0678 in Mason, Ohio.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Connie Barringer Dobbins; two sons, Billy (Lisa) Dobbins, Jr. of Findlay, Ohio and Brian Dobbins of Vidor, Texas; three sisters, Shirley(Donnie) Hinkle, Betty(Dick) Anderson all of New Lexington and Dorothy(Roger) Sprankle of Crooksville, Ohio; one brother, Bob(Maxine) Dobbins of Huber Heights, Ohio; seven grandchildren, Brittany, Clayton, Kaitlynn, Billy, Kryssa, Bridgette, and A.J.; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Ed and Sandy Barringer of Crooksville.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents Hugh Dobbins and Sella Childers Dobbins; his sister, Nellie Anderson and brother-in-law, Gary Anderson.

Friends may call 2-4 & 6-8 P.M., Friday, November 2 at Goebel Funeral Home, 36 N. Buckeye St., Crooksville where Masonic Services will be held at 8:00 P.M. with Peerless Lodge 591 conducting services. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, November 3 at the funeral home with Rev. Dan Greer officiating. Burial will follow in New Lexington cemetery with full military honors.

Palermo

Virginia Mae Palermo, age 87, died October 29, 2007 with family by her side.

A visitation will be held Thursday, November 1, 2007, from 5 P.M. until 8 P.M. at Sterling Funeral Home in Dayton, Texas. Funeral services will be held Friday, November 2, 2007, at 11:00 A.M at Sterling Funeral Home with Reverend Wayne Hardin officiating. Burial will follow in Palms cemetery in Dayton, Texas.

Virginia was born in Garden City, Kansas to parents Clyde and Abby Drake. She married Carl Dixon Ashby and moved to Texas. Carl died of a tragic accident in 1957. Virginia was married to Joe Palermo in 1967, until his death in 1989. She then went to live with her daughter and son-in-law. They moved to Dayton in 1995 and joined Grace Community Baptist Church. Virginia retired from Gentleman’s Barber Shop in Pearland, Texas in 1998 after thirty-eight years of barbering.

Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, two sons, Glenn and Clyde Ashby, grandson, Clyde Ashby Jr., son-in-law, Daniel Green, two brothers, Clyde and Stewart Drake and three Great-Great Grandchildren.

Survivors include her daughter Deloris Green, son Larry Ashby and wife Shirley, sisters, Mary Perry, Helen Minor, Leona Janzen and husband Elmer, Geraldine Durbin, brother, Gerald Drake and wife Joan, ten grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren and fifteen great-great-grandchildren.

Griffin

Margie Nell Griffin, age 77, died Friday, October 26, 2007, at her home in Liberty, TX.

Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 30, 2007 at 2:00 P.M. at the Allison Funeral Service with burial in the Fairlawn cemetery. A visitation will be held on Monday, October 29, 2007 at Allison Funeral Service from 5 pm until 8 pm.

Margie was born in Bono, TX on September 20, 19930 to William Bart Payne and Alice Davis Payne. She was a graduate from the Arlington TX. high school. She was a home maker and enjoyed working with ceramics, crafts, knitting and fishing. Margie married Henry Lee Griffin on March 30, 1953 in Fort Worth, TX. They made Liberty their home in 1982.

Margie is preceded in death by her parents, and four sisters: Lois Thomas, Luciel Rhodes, Claudia Compton and Norma Hooper.

She is survived by her husband Henry Lee Griffin of Liberty, TX., three sons: Henry Lee Griffin Jr., and his wife Gleda, Bruce Griffin, and Randal Griffin, a sister Tommy Jean Amarine and two grandsons: Bryan and Randal Griffin, and a host of other family members and friends.

Griffin

Glover

William Franklin Glover, 67, of Moss Hill, Texas died Wednesday, October 24, 2007.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 27, 2007 at 2 P.M. at Allison Funeral Service in Liberty. Visitation will be held on Friday, October 26, 2007 from 5-8 P.M. at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Oakdale cemetery in Daisetta, Texas.

He was born on October 11, 1940 in Hull, Texas to parents John William Glover and Brello Nugent. He enjoyed hunting with his hunting buddies and making homemade sausage, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family. He worked as a truck pusher for Watson Trucking Co.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, William F. Glover Jr., three sisters, and seven brothers.

William is survived by his wife Judith Ann Glover, daughters: Charlene Rogers and husband Randy, Mickie Rumsey, Regina Brown, Veronica Glover, and Cyndi Eubank; sisters, Margie LeBouef, and Lorine Fregia; brothers, Wiley, James Donald and Larry Glover. Grandchildren: Kade Fregia, Koady and Kristen Herron, Jayce and Ashlyn Rumsey, Wesley Brown, Emily, Nathan and Lauren Eubank; one great-grandchild, Jacob Phillips and many other relatives and friends.

Glenn

G.A. Glenn, 80, died on Tuesday, October 23, 2007 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s.

Born October 21, 1927, in Texas to Graves and Vera Glenn. He was one of six children. A devoted Christian husband and father, he lived most of his life in the Calallen area of Corpus Christi, Texas. He attended Calallen High School and played on the first Wildcat football team. He later graduated from high school in Lampasas, Texas and then served in the Army. He was employed by Reynolds Metals for over twenty-five years in security and retired from Reynolds in 1988. He and his family were members of Annaville Baptist Church in Corpus Christi and later were among the first families to become members of the Central Baptist Church mission in Calallen which later became River Hills Baptist Church. He was a deacon and also helped to contract and build the first sanctuary building for River Hills (then Central Baptist). He had a passion for people in general, never met a stranger and loved music.

Mr. Glenn was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Edna M. Brothers Glenn, sisters, Juanita Ware, Irene Rusher, brothers, Elgin Glenn and Bobby R. Glenn.

He is survived by two daughters, Loretta Lanphier and her husband Robert, Denise Glenn, one granddaughter, Brandi Contreras and her husband Rigo, one great-granddaughter, Baily Ashlynn Contreras, one brother, Richard Glenn and his wife Marie, and a host of special in-laws, nieces, nephews and many friends

Graveside services will be held Friday, October 26, 2007 at 2:00 P.M., at Guedry cemetery in Batson, Texas. Robert Lanphier, son-in-law, of The Woodlands, will officiate.

Williamson

Ethel Marie Williamson, 86, of Hull, died Tuesday, October 23, 2007 at the Liberty-Dayton Community Hospital.

Visitation will be Friday, October 26, 2007, from 5pm until 8pm at Allison Funeral Service, Liberty, Texas. A graveside funeral service will be held, Saturday, October 27, 2007 at 10:00am at the Moss Hill Community cemetery in Moss Hill with Reverend Robert Martin officiating.

Mrs. Williamson was born on February 19, 1921 in Sour Lake, Texas to parents Rex Tucker and Josephine Marie Tucker. She was a member of the Mt. Calvary Baptist Church of Marysee in Moss Hill, Texas. She was a homemaker and enjoyed working on crafts and spending time with her family and friends.

Mrs. Williamson was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Clarence DeSha, a son Clarence Cole DeSha, and an aunt, Lorelei Tucker Lana.

She is survived by her husband, George Anson Williamson, one son, Robert Michael DeSha and wife Sonia, three daughters, Josephine Peardon and husband Robert, Claudette Faulkner and husband Orvin, Loretta Andress and husband Robert, ten grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren, and twenty great-great-grandchildren.

Taff

Dr. W.N. Taff, also know as “Judge Taff” to many in our community, died on Monday morning, October 22, 2007 at his home in Cleveland.

He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Jane, whom he married in August of 1950. Together they had 5 children: Brenda Taff Gardner of Devine, Texas, Janie Taff Prather of Cleveland, Texas, Norris Taff, Jr. of Tomball, Texas, Michael S. Taff of Houston, Texas and Allison A. Taff of Cleveland, Texas. Their union also produced 10 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Four loving caregivers made Judge Taff’s last years more enjoyable: Joan Burnett, Mattie Runyon, Cynthia Allen and Nora Marsh.

Funeral services will be held for Judge Taff at Westside Church of Christ, Wednesday, October 24, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. with interment at Cleveland Memorial Park cemetery.

Judge Taff was born on March 21, 1926 in Gilmer, Texas to Herbert and Fay Taff.

Just before his high school graduation, Norris Taff Joined the United States Air Force on March 6, 1944 and served during WWII until his Honorable Discharge on October 31, 1945.

After his time in the Air Force, he attended Baylor University and received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Science in 1948.

The University of Texas Dental School was his home for the next four years. This is where he met the girl of his dreams, Mary Jane Allison.

After receiving his D.D.S., he and Mary Jane set up their first dental practice in Longview, Texas in 1952.

In 1955 he and Mary Jane and family moved to Pittsburg, Texas to practice dentistry, and then to Houston.

In Houston he opened a dental practice and taught at the University of Texas Dental School.

It was in 1961 that he and his family moved to Cleveland, Texas to practice dentistry on Bonham Street.

In 1970 Dr. Norris Taff began a real estate business, and later in 1984 became the City Judge of Cleveland.

Judge Taff retired in December 2003 after serving as the Municipal Judge in Cleveland for 20 years.

During his last several years, he and Mary Jane enjoyed many weekends at his farm in Rayburn where he raised Longhorn cattle.

The only thing that made him happier than going to “the farm” was spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren.

He was happiest when they were all together at birthdays and holidays and other special occasions.

Judge Taff was a member of the Westside Church of Christ. We will all miss him dearly.

Boudreaux-McKnight

Lacey S. Boudreaux-McKnight, 18, of Huffman, died Sunday, October 21, 2007 in Dayton.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, October 25, 2007, at the First Baptist Church of Dayton with private family interment following. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., Wednesday, October 24, 2007, at the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.

Lacey was born February 14, 1989 in Humble to parents; Mike Boudreaux and Sherri Dawn McKnight, a former resident of Dayton, and has resided in the Huffman area for the past three years. She was a leasing agent for Fair Lake Crossing in Huffman, graduate of the Marque Christian Academy class of 2007, and enjoyed photography, dancing, and spending time with her friends.

Miss McKnight was preceded in death by her grandparents: W. C. Averitt, Elvina Corrick, and Robert W. Matthieu, great-grandmother: Emma Gene McKnight, aunt: Sandra Fish, and cousin: Carolyn Stentz. She is survived by her mother: Dawn Young and fiancé Jim Maxwell of Huffman, father: Mike Boudreaux and wife Tammy of Cypress, brothers and sisters: Jacob Thompson of Shreveport, LA, Breeanna Thompson of Cypress, Dalton Boudreaux of Montgomery, Lyndsi Woods of Huffman, Kristin Maxwell of Huffman, Drew Maxwell of Huffman, Michaela Boudreaux of Cypress, Mason Boudreaux of Cypress, and Graci Young of Huffman, grandparents: Sherry Matthieu of Huffman, Luanne Kopecky and husband Larry of Houston, Benny McKnight of North Shore, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Smith

Hazel D. Nelson Smith, 93, of Beaumont, died Monday, October 22, 2007 peacefully at her residence. She was born February 11, 1914 in Dayton, Texas to parents, Carl D. and Anna K. Seaberg Nelson and graduated from Dayton High School in 1931. She was a resident of High Island for over 50 years, a member of the High Island ISD PTA, worked as tax collector for the High Island ISD, and was a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Winnie where she was active in the choir. Mrs. Smith enjoyed gardening, tending her flowers especially her roses, the piano, playing dominos, and canasta.

Services for Mrs. Smith will be 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 24, 2007 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel in Dayton with interment to follow at Magnolia Park cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00 to 9:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 23, 2007, at the Funeral Home.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband: Louis J. Smith; her grandsons: Lanny McBride, Jr., and Danny Smith, Jr. and four sisters. She is survived by her daughter: Judy Meaux of Beaumont; her sons: Donny Smith and wife Velma of Groves, and Marvin Smith and wife Penny of Winnie; her brothers: James Nelson and Silas Nelson both of Dayton; 14 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and 6 great great-grandchildren; numerous other relatives and a host of friends.

Taff

Dr. Willeford Norris Taff, age 81, of Cleveland, Texas, died peacefully at his home Monday, October 22, 2007. Dr. Taff was born in Gilmer, Texas on March 21, 1926 to Herbert S. and Fay Taff who preceded him in death.

Visitation begins Tuesday, October 23, 2007, 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel, Cleveland, Texas. Funeral services will be held at Westside Church of Christ, Wednesday, October 24, 2007 at 2:00 p.m.

Survivors include his loving wife, Mary Jane Taff; daughters, Brenda Taff Gardner, Janie Taff Prather, Allison A. Taff; sons, Norris Taff, Jr. and Michael S. Taff; ten grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; his Aunt Alta Helms and so many other cherished family members and friends.
