Lacy Eugene Nugent, 80, of Daisetta, died on August 24, 2007 at San Jacinto Methodist Hospital in Baytown, TX.

Funeral services will be held at Allison Funeral Service on Sunday, August 26 at 3 P.M. A gathering of family and friends will be held prior to the service from 1-3 P.M. at the Allison Funeral Service, 1101 North Travis, Liberty, TX.

L.E. was born on April 09, 1927 in Daisetta, to parents Eugene and Maude Taylor Nugent. He worked security for C.D. Well Service.

He is preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Delores Downs Nugent, second wife, Juanita Faye Nugent; sons: Ronnie Nugent, Donnie Nugent and brother Odell Nugent.

He is survived by his sons, Overton Charles Nugent, Randy Nugent and wife Carol; ; daughters, Pamuela Joy Smart and husband Michael, Beverly Fregia and husband Marvin, Linda Sulllivan and husband Wayne, Cassondra Harris and husband David, and Mary Wright and husband Ronnie; brothers, Manuel and Ovie Lee Nugent and Carol Raymond and wife Ruby; and Lonnie Nugent, sisters, Iva Mae Able, , Opal Faye Grabboski and husband Henry, Myrtle Brewer and husband Darrell. Twenty-one grandchildren and thirty great grandchildren also survive as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Patterson

Eugenia Bequita Patterson, age 21, of Cleveland, Texas, died Sunday, August 25, 2007. She was born in Wichita Falls, Texas on June 21, 1921 to Choteau A. and Emma G. Blakeney who preceded her in death along with her loving husband, George B. Patterson; and brother, Thomas Gill Blakeney. Survivors include her sons, Richard Patterson and wife, Ann, Lawren Patterson and wife, Lynnette; daughter, Susan Rosebraugh and husband, Roger; grandchildren, Michael McDaniel and wife, Enjoli, Alice Ann Sebring and husband, Russell, Kimberly Patterson and husband, Chuck, Zachary Patterson, Tyler Ryn Patterson, Nichole Weling and husband, David, Joseph Blake Rosebraugh; great-grandchildren, Kaylee Patterson, Savannah Patterson, Kathryn Werling, and Ian Michael Weling; along with many other cherished family members and caring friends.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 31, 2007, 11:00 a.m. at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel, Cleveland, Texas with interment at Oak Shade cemetery.

Moody

James Kenneth Moody, age 53, of Huntsville, Texas, died Wednesday, August 29, 2007. James was born in Cleveland, Texas on July 26, 1954 to Bobby Joe and Eula Mae Moody who precede him in death.

Survivors include his fiancé, Gail Keiser of Huntsville, Texas; brother, Tommy Lynn Johnson of Trinity, Texas; son J.K. Moody of Trinity, Texas; step-father, Buck Buchanan of Trinity, Texas; step-sister, Susie Sanders of Tomball, Texas; niece, Rena Johnson of Trinity, Texas; three great-nieces along with so many other cherished family members and caring friends.

Visitation will be Thursday, August 30, 2007, 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home, Cleveland, Texas. Funeral services will be held Friday, August 31, 2007, 2:00 p.m. at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Glen Mead officiating and interment at Morgan cemetery, Cleveland, Texas.

Kubes

James Edward Kubes, 61, of Dayton, Texas, died Tuesday, August 14, 2007 in Louisiana.

He was born on January 14, 1946 in Liberty, Texas to Joseph and Anna Kubes. James was a graduate of Dayton High School. He later attended and graduated from the University of Houston.

A memorial visitation will be held Wednesday, August 29, 2007 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Sterling Funeral Home, 602 North Main Street, Dayton, Texas.

Pearson

Joe A. Pearson, 59, of Dayton, died Monday, August 27, 2007 at East Houston Regional Hospital. He was born July 21, 1948 in Broken Bow, Nebraska to parents, Paul A. and Mary A. Bruce Pearson. He was a member of the class of 1966 SEM High School in Nebraska. He then attended McCook Jr. College and Cerney State University. Joe had lived in Houston since 1980, moving to Dayton 15 years ago. He was currently employed with Budweiser where he had worked for the past 17 years as a maintenance mechanic. He loved his family especially his kids and grandkids, enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling, reading, NASCAR, also digging, cleaning, and cutting gemstones.

Services for Mr. Pearson will be 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 29, 2007 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel and 2:00 p.m., Saturday, September 1, 2007 at Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington, Nebraska. Interment will follow at Greenwood cemetery in Lexington, Nebraska.

The family will receive friends Tuesday evening, 5:00 to 9:00 p.m., at the funeral home.

He was preceded in death by his father, one daughter: Tanya Jo Pearson. He is survived by his wife of 38 years: Marsha Naprstek Pearson of Dayton; his sons: Mike Pearson and wife Jennifer of Dayton; Monte Todd Florom of Glaskow, Kentucky, and William Florom and wife Cerissa of Cleveland; 4 grandchildren: Brandy Florom, Calynn, Taylor and Ricky Owens; mother: Mary A. Bruce Pearson of Oconto, Nebraska, sister: Lori Pearson of Oconto, Nebraska; brothers: Duane Pearson and wife Sandy of Linden, Alabama, Jerry Pearson and wife Julie of Andover, Minnesota, and Gil Pearson of Oconto, Nebraska; also numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Jones

Ruby McCreight Jones, age 95, died in a Nursing Home, in Groves, TX, Sunday, August 26, 2007.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 29, 2007 at 2:00 P.M. at the Allison Funeral Service 1101 North Travis Street, Liberty, Texas 77575, with the Reverend Dr. Harry McDaniel officiating, with burial in the Guedry cemetery, Batson, TX. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 28, 2007 at 5 to 8 pm, at Allison Funeral Service .

Ruby was born on December 29, 1911, to Joe Dark McCreight and Eva Ann Boothe McCreight, in Moss Hill, TX. She married to Clarence Edgar Jones on August 1, 1933 in Liberty, TX and they were married for 45 years before his death in 1978. She was a resident of Devers for 67 years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Devers, TX. and she enjoyed sewing, crafts, and doing ceramics.

She was preceded in death by five of her siblings: John Wesley McCreight, James McCreight, Stella Jones, Annie Mae Jordan, and Myrtle Collins.

She is survived by her three children: J. B. Jones and his wife Elsie, of Mesquite, TX, Virgina Ann Tatum and her Troy, of Devers, TX, Myrtle Vines of Zavalla, TX, four siblings: Earl McCreight of Moss Hill, TX, J. D. McCreight of Hardin, TX, Sam McCreight of Livingston, TX, and Edith Madden of Moss Hill, TX, nine grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren and fourteen great great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

Nugent

Gatewood

Herman L.Gatewood, 80, died peacefully after a brief battle with cancer at the San Jacinto Methodist Hospital in Baytown, TX. August 24, 2007.

He was born on October 15, 1926 in Burkburnett, TX to parents, R.L. (Doc) and Thelma Coleson Gatewood. He was a 58 year member of Gladewater Masonic Lodge. Herman’s greatest joy was his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Herman was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, R. L. Gatewood, and his, daughter-in-law, Colleen Gatewood.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary Gatewood of Liberty; his children, son, Guy and wife Gail, of Sour Lake, TX, and daughter, Gail Benson of Fargo, North Dakota; brothers, Clinton Gatewood and wife Gert of Ft. Worth, and Jack Gatewood and wife Wanda of Hampshire. Three grandchildren, Michael Benson of Dallas, Christie Gatewood of Arlington and Lisa Shaw and husband Jason and two great-grandchildren, Deana Shaw and Elizabeth Shaw also survive.

The family will receive visitors to share fond remembrances at Allison Funeral Home, 1101 North Travis in Liberty on Monday, August 28, 2007 from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P. M. Services will be held at 2 P.M. in at the funeral home chapel. Interment will take place at the Rosedale cemetery in Sour Lake, TX. following the service. Friends and family are invited to the home of Guy and Gail Gatewood following the graveside service in Sour Lake.

Evans

Karen Lee Evans, age 65, of Wells, Texas, died at Woodland Heights Medical Center in Lufkin, August 21, 2007. Karen was born in Houston, Texas on July 2, 1942.

Survivors include her fiancé, David Tolman, children, Butch Phillips and wife, Linda, Sandra Kay Dadovich, Terry Kelly and husband, Gordon, Jerry Phillips and wife, Sonya; grandchildren, Tammy Samuelson, Christopher Daniels, Grace and Trace Kelly, Anastasia Dadovich, C.G. Phillips, Mary Helen Phillips, Mariah Phillips, Nichole Phillips; great-grandchildren, Madalynne Samuels, Brandon Lee Lujan; brother, Ronnie Butler and wife, Terry; her special pal and devoted friend; her dog, “Nicki”; along with many other loving family members and caring friends.

A memorial service was held 10:00 a.m., Friday, August 24, 2007 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel, Cleveland, Texas.

Clemmons

Dr. Jimmie Lee Clemmons, age 61, died Tuesday, August 21, 2007 at his home in Liberty.

He was born May 23, 1946 in Marlin, TX and attended Crosby High School, Lamar University, and Southwestern Theological Seminary. He was the founding pastor of North Main Baptist Church in Liberty and served as the Senior Pastor for the past 20 years. He was a loving son, husband, father, and grandfather. He is preceded in death by his father, Ivan Lee Clemmons.

He is survived by his wife, Vicki Clemmons of Liberty; mother, Hazel Clemmons of Crosby; children, Angela Bruyneel and husband, David, of Brenham, Jimmie Clemmons of Bastrop, Jeffrey Clemmons and wife, Leslie of Pflugerville, Kristi Sterling and husband, Dean, of Uvalde, and Kevin Smith and wife, Carri, of Humble; ten grandchildren, Christopher Neuendorff,
Natalie Neuendorff, Emily Neuendorff, Jesse Neuendorff, Madison Sterling, Pearson Sterling, Jace Zett, Sophie Clemmons, Carson Smith, and Cameron Smith; two brothers, Gary Clemmons and wife, Arlene, of Highlands and Randy Clemmons of Crosby; one sister, Peggy Satherley and husband, John, of Huffman; and numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Visitation will be held between 4:00 P.M. and 8:00 P.M. on Thursday, August 23, 2007 at North Main Baptist Church and a Memorial Service at 6:30 P.M. on Friday, August 24, 2007, at North Main Baptist Church, 4709 North Main, Liberty, TX.

Penick

L.A. “Buster” Penick died Friday, August 17, 2007. He was 84. Buster was born in House, New Mexico on July 20, 1923.

His family came to Anahuac in 1923, where he attended school. He went to Sam Houston University in 1942 and joined the Naval Air Corps later that same year. Buster flew the F4U Corsair off the carrier INTREPID, in the Pacific war against Japan in 1944. After flying jets in the Naval Reserve a few years, he came back to Anahuac to become an Ag-Pilot and rice farmer. He had farmed rice from 1946 to 2005, 55 years.

Buster was preceded in death by his loving wife of over 50 years, Faye Penick, who died in April of this year, and his parents Robert and Cecil Penick. He is survived by three sons, Larry, Garry, and Leslie Penick; two sisters, Maybelle Burch and Gwen McConnell; and many nieces and nephews.

A brief memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, August 21 at First United Methodist Church of Anahuac. In lieu of Flowers and for those desiring, memorial contributions may be directed to Mid Chambers Christian Caring Center of Memorial Fund at First United Methodist Church. Arrangements have been entrusted to Sterling Funeral Home, 1201 South Main Street, Anahuac, Texas 77514.

Hazlip

Henry Randall Hazlip, age 40, of Moss Bluff died Wednesday, August 15, 2007 at his home in Moss Bluff.

There will be a graveside service on Saturday, August 18 at 10 A. M. at the Fairlawn cemetery in Liberty.

Mr. Hazlip was born March 8, 1967 in Houston, Texas to parents, Henry Hazlip, Jr. and Billye Lawson Hazlip. Randy was a fun loving person who enjoyed being with his family and friends.

Randy was preceded in death by his father, Henry Hazlip and one brother, Kelly Hazlip. He is survived by his longtime companion, Shirley Dagle, his mother, Billye Hazlip, two daughters, Christina Hazlip, Angela Hazlip, two brothers, Douglas Hazlip, Rodney Hazlip, two granddaughters, Aubrey Hazlip, Madison Hazlip, and many other relatives and friends.

Sutton

James Truitt Sutton, age 59, of Cleveland, Texas, died Sunday, August 19, 2007. He was born in Livingston, Texas on August 7, 1948 to Sherman and Katherine Sutton who preceded him in death along with his Aunt Lamore.

James was former owner of AVS Muffler Shop in Livingston and well liked throughout the community.

Survivors include his loving wife, Barbara Sutton; two sons, Joshua Sutton and Jacob Sutton; three daughters, Lisa White, Paula Ashen, and Sheryl Lawrence. His cherished grandchildren, Casey Barrett, Lacy Barrett, Courtney Barrett, Harley White, Jeff Ashen, Hannah Ashen, Jeremy Ashen, Douglas BeeBee, Morgan Lawrence, Remington Lawrence; his great-grandchild, Hunter Brown; along with numerous nieces, nephews and many other loving and caring family members and friends.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, August 21, 2007, 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home, Cleveland, Texas. Graveside services will be Wednesday, August 22, 2007, 12:00 Noon at Peebles cemetery, Goodrich, Texas.

Johnson

Jerry Dwain Johnson, age 66, died peacefully at his home, surrounded by his family, on August 16 2007.

Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, August 19, 2007 at 3 P.M. at the First Baptist Church in Liberty. Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 18 from 5 to 8 P.M at the Allison Funeral Service.

He was born on October 21, 1940 in Mart, TX to his parents, R.C. and Loraine Johnson. Jerry was a graduate of Mart High School, Baylor University and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He pastored in several Texas towns before coming in 1981 to First Baptist Church Liberty, where he served for 25 years. Jerry bravely fought kidney cancer for four years.

Rev. Johnson is survived by his wife, Brenda; his sons, Jeffrey, Kerry and wife Sandy and Timothy. His grandchildren, Haley, Seth, and Emily Grace were his pride and joy. He is also survived by his brothers, Ronald and Robert, and his sister, LaJuan Pessarra.

Wilkinson

Beatrice N. Wilkinson, age 81, of Splendora, Texas, died Thursday, August 16, 2007. She was born in Splendora, Texas on October 18, 1925 to Jessie and Nora Wiggins, who preceded her in death along with her husband, Carl Wilkinson; brothers Richard Wiggins, Robert Wiggins, Bennie Wiggins, and Frank Wiggins; sister, Nettie Goodrum and her sons, Charles Holder and Audrey Holder.

Survivor include her daughter, Barbara Walker of Splendora, Texas; son, Jimmy Holder and wife, Annette of Hearne, Texas; brothers, J.D. Wiggins and wife, Jennie, Darrell Wiggins and wife, Mary; grandchildren, Mike and Dina Walker, Greg and Jan Holder, Shannon and Michelle Walker, Steve and Bernice Holder, Brian and Mistie Walker, Eric Holder, Nathan Holder, Amber and John Reynolds; great-grandchildren, Scott, Drew and Zackary Walker, O’Ryan and Karlee Holder, Brady and Shea Walker, Bentley and Hagen Walker, Jared and Ross Reynolds; great-great-granddaughter, Adleigh Holder; along with so many other cherished family members and caring friends.

Visitation will be held Friday, August 17, 2007, 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home, Cleveland, Texas. Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 18, 2007, 2:00 p.m. at Splendora Assembly of God Church, Splendora, Texas with interment at Peebles cemetery, Goodrich, Texas.

Kelly

Frank S. Kelly, 75, of Dayton, died Tuesday, August 14, 2007 at home after an extended illness. He was born April 11, 1932 in Columbia, South Carolina to parents, Francis Patrick M. Kelly and Mary Margaret Sparkes Kelly. He had lived in Dayton since 1998, previously living in LaPorte and Houston. Before retiring he was an owner and operator of an appliance and air conditioning business. He had previously been a member of Lion’s Club, collected eagles and old cars, but most of all he worked a lot.

Services for Mr. Kelly will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, August 23, 2007 at The Crosby Church. Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Wednesday at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.

Mr. Kelly was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter: Charlene Kelly. He is survived by his wife Sylvia Kelly of Dayton; sons: Frank James Kelly of Dayton, Roland Robert “Bobby” Kelly of Dayton, George Kelly and wife Donna of Deer Park, Paul Kelly and wife Heather of Dayton, Joseph “Joe” Kelly and wife Amy of Dayton; daughters: Brenda White and husband Robert of Houston, Laurie Ann Simpson, Francis and Donna; adopted daughter: Donna Sue Aguilar of Houston; step-daughter: Angel Gay of Louisiana; step- son: Anthony Gay of Atascocita; sister: Mary Boyd of Virginia; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; numerous other relatives and a host of friends.
