Ina Jane Powell, age 89, of Vidor, TX, died Friday, May 18, 2007 in a Beaumont Hospital.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 22, 2007 at 11:00 A.M., at Allison Funeral Service Chapel 1101 North Travis Street, Liberty, TX, with the Reverend Ron Davis officiating, with burial in the Cooke Memorial cemetery, 1910 Lakeland Drive, Liberty, TX.

Ina was born in Lovelady, Trinity County, Texas on February 18, 1918, to Cater Franklin Sanders and Mary Lucinda Bledsoe Sanders.

She was a homemaker, and member of the Baptist Church. She enjoyed her grandchildren and her pet cats and dog.

Ina is preceded in death by her parents, a daughter: Sherry Lea Cleveland, and son: Robert Neal, Jr. Survivors are a son and daughter-in-law: John and Katherine Majors of Liberty, three daughters and son-in-law: Janice Morgan, of Vidor, TX, Joyce Hughes of Livingston, TX, and Sylvia and Bruce Lunt of San Jose’, CA., 17 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

Smith

A Memorial Service of Jerry Wayne Smith, 49, of Houston Texas will be held Friday, May 25, 2007 at 11:00 A.M. at Berean Tabernacle Baptist Church with the Reverend Hurley Clayton officiating

A native of Liberty, a graduate of Hull-Daisetta High School and Prairie View A & M University he was an electrical engineer.

He died May 8 in Houston, Texas.

He is survived by two brothers: Trent Smith of Raywood, Texas and Samuel Smith of Columbia, South Carolina; five sisters: Hattie LaFleur, Sandra Olasen, Bonnie Smith and Nelda Stelly, all of Raywood and Jennifer Smith of Houston and a host of other family and friends.

McKeand

Kalup James McKeand, age 23, of Dayton, died suddenly Thursday, May 17, 2007.

Family will receive friends and family 9:00am to 12:00pm, Saturday May 19, 2007 at the Sterling Funeral Home, Dayton, Texas. A graveside service will be held at 1pm at the Palms Memorial Park cemetery, Dayton, Texas.

Kalup was born September 10, 1983 the son of Billy James McKeand and LeAnn Zeigler in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Kalup attended the Dayton School System he last worked as a rigger operator for Starcon in Pasadena.

He is survived by: Father: Billy James McKeand of Dayton, Mother: LeAnn McKeand of Cleveland, Maternal Grandmother Margaret Jean Hall of Montgomery, Alabama, Paternal Grandmother Betty Ruth McKeand Newman of Dayton, Step Mother: Stacie Hemphill McKeand of Dayton, Sisters: Connie Ann McKeand Green of Dayton, Heather Jean McKeand of Cleveland, and Kimberly Kay McKeand of Mobile, Alabama, Step-Sister Christina Isabell of Dayton, Step-Brother Brody Isabell of Dayton, Niece: Skylee Ann Green, Nephew: Hance Garrett Green, Aunts: Tammy McKeand, Tina Guidry, Kim Hall, Arleen Zeigler, Sandra Norris, Great Aunt Helen Weldon, Uncles Ricky Lee McKeand, Travis Lynn McKeand, Wayland Zeigler, Randy Hall and Jimmy Norris. Great Uncles Wyman Weldon and Donald Snodgrass.

Kalup will be remembered for his love of fishing, hunting, playing Xbox, Jet skiing and most importantly playing baseball with his niece and nephew.

Smallwood

Bettie Jane Smallwood, 84, a resident of Commerce, Texas died on April 30, 2007. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Bettie was born April 22, 1923 in Kemp, Texas. She was preceded in death by her brother, Vernon Otto Smallwood, and her parents William Orville and Willie Phillips Smallwood. She is survived by Dorothy Smallwood of Florida, wife of William O. (Bill) Smallwood her nephew. She is also survived by three great nephews Robert Smallwood and wife Kelly, James Smallwood and wife Carrie and Daniel Smallwood and wife Karin.

Bettie Smallwood graduated in 1945 from East Texas Teachers College in Commerce known today as Texas A&M at Commerce. She was one of the few chosen students of the Training School which was part of the East Texas Teachers College. Although she had no children of her own, she was a loving and caring mom to many of her students during her thirty three years of service as an arts and crafts teacher in Dayton, Texas. She retired from teaching in July, 1978. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and was one of the Founders of the Children’s Museum in Commerce.

Funeral Services were held Saturday, May 5, 2007 at the First United Methodist Church, 1709 Highway 50, Commerce, Texas. Interment followed in Rosemont cemetery.

For all those that knew Bettie Smallwood, her loving smile and kind heart extended not only to people but also to animals in need.

Anderson

Shrée Juanita Anderson, 67, of Dayton, Texas, died Wednesday, May 16, 2007. She was born in Luling, Texas on October 9, 1939 to Ruben William and Airrie Lea Spencer of whom preceded her in death.

She is survived by her loving husband John Garner Anerson; daughters, Diana Anderson Bolton and husband, Robert, Mary Anderson Pfenninger and husband, Walter; sons, John Garner Anderson, II and wife, Julie; brother, Franklin Spencer; sisters, Mary Chambers and Joyce Becker; her cherished grandchildren, John Bolton, Spencer Pfenninger, John Garner Anderson, III, Amanda Bolton, James Anderson, Jeremy Pfenninger, Kelsie Pfenninger, Julien Anderson along with many nieces, nephews, and other treasured family members and countless friends.

Funeral services will be held Monday, May 21, 2007, 1:30 p.m. at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel, Cleveland, Texas. Bro. Reeves conducted the service with interment at Ryan cemetery, Cleveland, Texas.

Davis

Larry Albert Davis Jr., 43, of Liberty died as the result of an automobile accident in Crosby on Tuesday, May 15, 2007.

Funeral services will be held at Allison Funeral Service on Saturday, May 19, at 2 P.M. A gathering of family and friends will be on Friday, May 18 at the funeral home from 5-8 P.M.

Larry was born on July 13, 1963 in Liberty to parents Larry Albert Davis and Beatrice M. Hargraves Davis. He graduated from the Liberty High School in 1981 and was a member of the Baptist Church. He was also a member of the Liberty Lions Club and enjoyed golf and fishing.

He is survived by his parents; son, Trey Davis of Batson; daughter Holly Fraire of Round Rock, TX; sister, Lisa Heim and husband Randy and brother, Lance Davis. Larry is also survived by his only grandson Caleb Fraire as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Sills

Holden Wilder Sills (Infant) of Splendora, Texas, died May 16, 2007. Parents are Brian and Christi Sills along with other survivors, sister, Chloe Sills, Gracen Sills; maternal grandparents, Wanda Johnson and husband, Charles; paternal grandmother, Kay Sills; aunt, Hailey Johnson; uncle, Damon Sills and wife, Angela, Justin Sills; great-grandmother, Gladys Loge; great-grandparents, H.L. and Bea Acker; great-uncles, James Loge and wife, Elise, Larry Loge and Junie, Walter Loge and wife, Jimmie, Chester Loge and wife, Martha; and numerous other loving and caring family members.

Graveside services will be held Friday, May 18, 2007, 3:00 p.m. at Pace-Stancil Memorial Rest Gardens “Babyland” with visitation prior to the service from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home, Cleveland, Texas.

Young

Mrs. Lillie Mae Young, of Romayor, TX. died on May 14, 2007 at Happy Harbor Methodist Home in La Port. She had previously resided at Mountbatten House in Highlands, and St. James House in Baytown.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Jessie Milton Young; father, John B. Fowler; mother, Mary Ann Williams; brothers, Ben Fowler and Burton Fowler; sister, Clara Fowler and survived by her daughter, Barbara Grace Efurd; son, Jessie Milton Young, Jr.; brother, Willie Lee Fowler; nephew and niece, John Fowler and Billie Ruth Hinze; sister-in-law, Virgie Cromer and a host of other cherished family members and caring friends.

Funeral services will be at 1:00pm Thursday May 17, 2007 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel, with interment at Holly Grove cemetery.

Terrell

Bertha Mae Terrell, 88, of Jacksonville, Texas, died on May 15, 2007.

Services for Bertha were held on May 17, 2007 at 2:00 PM at Ryan cemetery, Tarkinton Prairie, Texas. Rev. David Hallum officiated under the direction of Autry Funeral Home in Jacksonville.

Bertha was born August 23, 1918 in McAlister, New Mexico to Miner and Quirl Thompson. Bertha was a homemaker & bookkeeper by trade. Bertha attended the Church of Christ and was also a member of several bowling teams in Jacksonville & Palestine which participated in state & national tournaments.

Bertha is preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Ross Terrell; her parents, Miner & Quirl Thompson; granddaughter, JoAnn Heard; sisters, Mary Jane Thompson & Imogene Wilson; and brothers, Ernest and Alvin Thompson. Bertha is survived by her sons, Loyd and wife Gail Terrell, Jacksonville and Roy and wife Glenda Terrell, Kosse; 3 grandchildren, James Terrell, Reuben Terrell & Wayne Terrell; 4 great-grandchildren, Ty Terrell, Autumn Terrell, Misty Dodson and Josh Heard, and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers: H.B. Smith, Bill Richardson, James Terrell, Rueben Terrell, Wayne Terrell & Ty Terrell.

Visitation for the family was held on Wednesday, May 16, 2007 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Autry Funeral Home in Jacksonville.

Heiman

Velma R. Heiman, 81, of Liberty died Sunday, May 13, 2007 at Liberty Health Care Center in Liberty, TX.

A native of Orange, she lived in Beaumont, Texas and Jasper, Texas until the death of her husband 11 years ago. She moved to Liberty, Texas to be closer to her children Linda Heiman Orand of Liberty, TX and Larry Heiman of Hardin, TX, Grandchildren, and Great Grandchildren. She was a retired Sales Clerk with Bealls Department Store, and a homemaker. She was a member of the South Park Eastern Star Chapter in Beaumont, TX.

Funeral Services will begin at 2:00 pm. on Thursday, May 17, 2007 at Memorial Funeral Home in Vidor, TX, with burial to follow at Mansfield cemetery in Vidor, TX.

Visitation will begin at 6:00 pm. on Wednesday, May 16, 2007 at Memorial Funeral Home in Vidor.

She was preceded in death by her husband Marion Walter (M.W.) Heiman, Jr., daughter Rebecca (Becky) Heiman McCown, brother Kenneth C. McManus. She is survived by her son Larry A. Heiman of Hardin, TX, and daughter Linda Heiman Orand and husband Ronnie of Liberty, TX, brother Gerald McManus and his wife Sue of Pearland, TX, eleven grandchildren, twenty-eight great grandchildren, and five great great grandchildren.

Vestal

Bobby Vestal Sr., 71, of Hull, Texas, died Monday, May 14, 2007 at his home.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 17, 2007, at 10:00AM at Sterling Funeral Home, Dayton, Texas with Reverend Vernon Parsons officiating. A visitation will be held Wednesday, May 16, 2007 from 5pm until 8pm at Sterling Funeral Service.

Mr. Vestal was born January 17, 1936, to parents, Hugh Vestal and Hazel Ellen Cooper in Pineland, Texas. He was a retired supervisor for Dow Chemical. He enjoyed car racing and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Mr. Vestal was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, James Vestal, Michael Vestal, two daughters, Linda Vestal Witt and Connie Vestal

Mr. Vestal is survived by his wife, Bette Yvonne Vestal, three sons; Bobby Vestal Jr. and wife Wanda, Dennis Vestal and wife Debbie, John Vestal and wife Christina, three daughters; Debra Lavonne Whitehead and husband Wayne, Debbie Kay Campbell and husband Garry, Pat Warren and husband Ronnie, son-in-law; Perry Witt, five brothers, Donald Lee Vestal and wife Linda, Lonnie Vestal and wife Genese, L.B. Vestal, Johnny Ray Vestal and wife Lela, Leonard Vestal and wife Cheryl, two sisters, Katherine Bentley and husband George, Hazel Morehead and husband W.J., twenty-one grandchildren, thirty-three great-grandchildren and numerous other relatives and friends

Ball

Marie Ball, 87, of Federal Way, Washington was born February 19, 1920 in Baytown, Texas and died Saturday, April 28, in a Washington hospital.

She was a 1938 graduate of Robert E. Lee High School and was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon E. Ball. They were longtime residents of Baytown, Channelview, Palestine, Grapeland and recently she lived with her daughter in Federal Way, Washington. While living in Channelview she was an active librarian, a member of Old River Terrace Methodist Church and a 4-H leader. She was involved in other clubs and activities in the towns where she lived. Marie enjoyed traveling and now has taken her last trip.

A family interment will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, May 18 at San Jacinto Memorial cemetery. Memorial Services will be held the following day, 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 19th at First United Methodist Church, Dayton with Rev. Jon Stouffer officiating.

Mrs. Ball was preceded in death by her parents: W.P. and Ethel Wright, brother: Bill Wright; and husband: Gordon Ball. She is survived by her children: Charlott Krigar and husband Lee; Robert Ball and wife Wanda, and Claudia Fulkerson, Washington; her brother: Robert Wright and sister: Ethel Davidson; Grandchildren: Brian Krigar and wife Tina; Michaela Guppy and husband Tim, Major Brandon Teague and wife Katherine, and Kimberli Mulrooney; her great-grandchildren: Chris Krigar, Ashley Cooper, Yehoskua Ball, Marrissa Atterbury, Abraham Atterbury, Bailey Teague, Nicholas Teague, Adriana Guppy, and Dillion Guppy.

Morgan

Helen Jean Morgan, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, died May 14, 2007.

She always put God first in her life; however, family ran a close second. Those who knew her loved her and knew her love for them was unconditional. Visitation will be Wednesday, May 16th from 5-8 pm at North Main Baptist Church in Liberty. Funeral services will be Thursday, May 17th at 11:00 am at the North Main Baptist Church under the direction of Navarre Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Baytown.

She was born in Eastland, Texas, March 14, 1929, the first of six children of L.V. and Helen Simmonds. She attended many schools as her dad was a chaplain in the U.S. Army. She graduated from Calvert High where she met and married Bob Morgan three days after they graduated. They have been happily married for sixty-one years this month. Raising their four sons and lovely daughter was a full time job as their ages spanned 18 years from the oldest to youngest. In her “spare” time, she proudly earned her Registered Nursing Degree with the very first class of RNs to graduate from Lamar University. Her career included nursing in a doctor’s office in Beaumont to Nurse Administrator at a Nursing Home in Dayton, to her favorite assignment, surgery.

She loved the outdoors. Camping, fishing, and traveling were among her favorite activities. She could swap fishing stories with the best of them. All the children have fond memories of camping at Huntsville State Park as youngsters. She was always happiest when traveling in a motor home either with family or going to visit family. She steadfastly supported her husband as his ministry called him to serve many churches in the southeast Texas area.

She was preceded in passing by her parents L.V. and Helen Simmonds and her baby brother Bobby Don.

She is survived by her loving husband Bob Morgan; sons Mike and wife Jan, David and wife Shelley, Brian and wife Anna, Joe and wife Sandra, and daughter Kathy; grandchildren: Michael and wife Jenni Morgan; Jennifer Zett; Lisa and husband Jonathan Miller; Wes Morgan; John Morgan; Jeremy and Sarah Morgan; great-grandchildren: Halie West, Anthony Morgan, Jace Zett, Jordyn Morgan, McKenna Zett and Austin Morgan; sisters: Joyce Ann Simmons, Sue Beth and husband Gerald Bendele; sister-in-law Dorothy Smith; brothers: Lou Simmonds and wife Pat; Jimmy Simmonds and wife Phyllis; brother-in-law Ray and wife Willie Mae Morgan as well as a host of nieces and nephews and many friends and loved ones.

Foster

Lillie M. Foster, 92, of Cleveland, Texas, died Friday, May 11, 2007 at Cleveland, Regional Medical Center. She was born in Romayor, Texas on December 9, 1914 to Will and Jennis Grimes.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Emmett Daniel Foster; son, Mitchell Dean Foster. She is sons, Kenneth L. Foster and wife, Billie Jean, Myron R. Foster and wife, Sandra; daughter-in-law, Jackie Foster Solsvig; grandchildren, Diane and Pete, Kay and husband, Ron, Myra and husband, Bruce, Kenneth Jr. and wife, Sharon, David and wife, Melinda, Laurie and husband, Ray, Lisa and husband, Michael, Stevie and wife, Janet, Cindy, Mickey and wife, Betsy, Timmy, Chrissy and husband, Matt, Susie and husband, John, Jennie and husband, Luke; twenty-eight great-grandchildren, fifteen great-great-grandchildren; her church family at Calvary Baptist Church and numerous other loving family members and a host of friends beyond measure.

Bro. Carl Williamson will conduct funeral services held Tuesday, May 15, 2007, 3:00 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church, Cleveland, Texas with interment at Cleveland Memorial Park cemetery.

Curry

Joann Curry, 81, of Dayton, died Thursday, April 26, 2007 after an extended illness. She was born January 15, 1926 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida to parents Robert and Mabel Tenbrook Reynolds. She had been a lifelong resident of this area and was a member of the Assembly of God Church. Mrs. Curry enjoyed her church, yard and crochet. She previously owned and operated Jo’s Resale Shop and will be remembered as a loving dear friend to many.

Services for Mrs. Curry will be Sunday, April 29, 2007 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Charles Pierce officiating. Interment will follow at Magnolia Park cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday evening, 5 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband: Jimmie Curry; two grandchildren: Sandra R. Shanks and Norman K. Shanks, Jr.; and one brother. She is survived by her daughter: Dianna C. Ashby and husband C.D. of Kennedale, TX.; her sons: Jimmy Curry of Dayton, Donnie L. Curry of Dayton, and Bobby Curry and wife Carolyn of Skiatook, OK; seven Grandchildren, ten Great-grandchildren, and three Great Great-grandchildren.
