Clements

Merrill Dean Clements, age 76, of Hardin, TX, died at his home Thursday, April 12, 2007 after a long illness.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 14, 2007 at the Allison Funeral Service, 1101 North Travis Street, Liberty, TX. with the Reverend Joe Fregia officiating. Burial will follow in the Hardin Chapel cemetery, Hardin, TX. A visitation will be held on Friday, April 13, 2007 at Allison Funeral Service from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M.

Merrill was born on January 26, 1931, in Indianapolis, Indiana to Fred and Minnie Clements. He was a U. S. Army veteran, Methodist by faith and a member of the Elks Club. Merrill was a road construction superintendent before moving to Texas. He enjoyed working on wind chimes, saw horses, and crafts.

Merrill is preceded in death by his parents. The survivors are: his wife, Beatrice Clements of Hardin, TX; daughter, Stephanie Johnson; sister, Arlene Bales; and three grandchildren: Christopher Johnson, Carrie Alam, and Lisa Speed. Three great grandchildren: Kiley Speed, Cody Speed, and Zayd Alam and a host of friends of friends also survive.

Pevehouse

Terry Gene Pevehouse, age 57, of Smith Point, TX, died Thursday, April 5, 2007, in a Baytown Hospital.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, April 10, 2007 at 2:00 P.M., at the Allison Funeral Service, 1101 North Travis Street, with the Reverend Bob Morgan officiating, with burial following in the Guedry cemetery, Batson, TX. A visitation will be held on Monday, April 9, 2007 from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at the Allison Funeral Service.

Terry was born in the Dayton City Hospital on September 5, 1949 to Kenneth Gene Pevehouse and Betty Jean Flower. Terry attend the Daisetta schools and served in the U.S. Army, before becoming a commercial fisherman, working out of Smith Point, TX. He was a Baptist and a member of the Anahuac Masonic Lodge A.F. & A. M. He enjoyed hunting, other sports and his family.

Terry is preceded in death by his father: Kenneth Gene Pevehouse, and a brother: Billy Pevehouse.

Survivors are his mother and step-father: Betty Jean Childress and W. F. Childress of Smith Point, TX. Children: Bobby and Sarah Pevehouse of Anahuac, Haley Pevehouse and Clinton W. Pevehouse, of Anahuac, TX, a brother: Kenneth Pevehouse, and two sisters: Donna Pevehouse and Ann Baird and husband Everett., and a host of other family and friends.

Masonic burial rites will be under the auspices of the Anahuac Masonic Lodge.

Morris

Joan Morris, 68, of Anahuac, Texas died Thursday, April 5, 2007 at Bayside Community Hospital in Anahuac.

Visitation will be Friday, April 6, 2007 from 6pm until 8pm at Anahuac Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 7, 2007 at 10:00am at the Church of Christ of Anahuac with Reverend Mickey Bertrand officiating. Burial will follow in Anahuac cemetery.

Joan was born on December 7, 1938 in Anahuac, Texas to parents Joe G. Morris and Lois Rogers Morris. She graduated from Anahuac High School. She helped take care of her step-father, helping him with his garden. She enjoyed taking drives with her family, spending time with family and friends, and reading her Bible.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her step-father J.W. James, one brother, James H. Morris and other relatives and friends.

Memorials may be made to Anahuac Church of Christ, or the charity of your choice.

Gants

Funeral service for Christopher Oneal Gants, 36, of Dayton, will be held on Friday, April 6, at 2 pm at Kingdom Hall, Liberty, Texas, with Elder David LaFeur, officiating with burial in Wells Memorial cemetery.

A native of Dayton, he was a graduate of Dayton High School.

He died on April 3, in Dayton as a result of an accident. Visitation will be held Thursday at Wells Funeral Home from 6 to 9 pm.

He is survived his parents, Fletcher Gants of Ames, Texas and Ruth Gants of Dayton; one sister; Alaishia Streater of Las Vegas, Neveda; one brother; Douglas Gants of Susanville, California and Grandmother: Mrs. Audrey Ford of Dayton and a host of other relative and friends.

Smith

Margaret “Peggy” Smith, 66, of Dayton, died Wednesday, April 4, 2007 at the San Jacinto Methodist Hospital in Baytown.

She was born September 17, 1940 in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania to her late Parents: Vincent Paul Schultz and Thelma Bagley Schultz. Peggy was an active member of the Grace Community Baptist Church, where she also served as church secretary for the last 11 years. She was retired from the Dayton Independent School District having served as the Stephen F. Austin Elementary School Cafeteria Manager and she and her husband had hosted the church Easter Egg Hunt for the last five years at their house.

Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, April 6, 2007 at the Grace Community Baptist Church in Dayton with Rev. Wayne Hardin officiating. Burial will follow at the Palms Memorial Park in Dayton.

She is survived by: Husband: Buck Smith of Dayton; Daughters: Diane Natale of Pennsylvania and Becky Dressel of Pennsylvania; Step-Daughter: Debbie Nolen of Silsbee; Granddaughter: Nissa Burch of Sour Lake; Grandsons: Michael Nolen of South Carolina and Christopher Nolen of Sugarland; Sisters: Doness Artman of Pennsylvania, Vanessa Mitchell of Florida, Beverly Jerry of San Antonio and Shirley Villarreal of Texas City and Numerous Nieces, Nephews, Grandchildren and other relatives. Pallbearers will be: Delbert Estep, Bill O’Neal, Chris Nolen, John Rhodes, Bill Statum and Gene Boultinghouse.

Honorary pallbearers will be the members of Grace Community Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Thursday, April 5, 2007 at the Grace Community Baptist Church in Dayton.

Walker

On March 31, 2007, in the quietness of his home, surrounded by his family, Don Walker died. Don was born to Al and Mamie Walker on October 29, 1916 in Coleman, Texas.

He graduated from Coleman High School and attended Long Beach Jr. College. Upon graduation he volunteered for services in the U.S. Navy during WWII.

After returning home from the Navy, he went in the automobile business with his brother.

Later in 1939, he came to Liberty while working with Austin Bridge Co. They built and widened the bridges between the county lines.

In April, 1940, he met and married Helen Marie Sanford (the love of his life). When Helen’s mother became ill, Don took over her sewing machine business. He also opened “The Coffee Cup” café. Don enjoyed his customers and was an excellent cook.

After selling the Coffee Cup, he went to work for Texas Gulf Sulpher. After 12 years, he began a career in insurance. He worked for Great American Reserve Insurance out of Dallas, Texas. Those that knew Don knew how much he enjoyed talking. So taking and selling insurance went hand in hand. He was named “Salesman of the Year” many times. It was not just selling; it was having a concern and compassion for what his customers needed.

He was an active member of First Baptist Church, where served as a deacon since 1955.

Don enjoyed his family, fishing and hunting upon this retirement in 1976. He was a wonderful family man and devoted husband, father and Papaw. He bound his family with unconditional love.

Don Walker peaceably joined his parents, four brothers and one sister in heaven.

He is survived by Helen, his loving wife of nearly 67 years. Four children: Donna Robbins of Liberty, Jay Walker and wife Carol of Hattiesburg, MS, Al Walker and wife JoAnn of Houston, Debbie Overton of Liberty. Nine grandchildren: Dean Fay and wife Julie of Ft. Worth, Chad Fry and wife Amy of Kingwood, Kim Wood and husband Quinn of Dayton, Jason Walker and wife Caroline of Memphis, Tennessee, Julie Tator and husband Corey of Purvis, Mississippi, Lisa Horton and husband Jerry of Hewitt, Amy Jo Walker of Katy, Scott Overton and wife Kerry of Winnie and Darin Reinhardt of Liberty. Eighteen great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and friends also survive.

Pallbearers will be; Dean Fry, Chad Fry, Scott Overton, Darin Reinhardt, Jason Walker and Jerrell Clay. Honorary pallbearers are: the Deacons of First Baptist Church, Tom Warner, John McCain, Norman Dykes, Charles McManus, Nicky Vance, Paul Henry, Richard Perry, Gene Bracewell, Kay Lanier, Ed Lee and Bill Cauthorn.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 3, 2007 at the First Baptist Church of Liberty at 2 P.M. Visitation for friends and family will be held on Monday, April 2 at the Allison Funeral Service in Liberty. Burial will follow at Cooke cemetery in Liberty.

Norris

Clarence Lee Norris, age 60, of Liberty, TX. died Friday, March 30, 2007, at his home with his family and friends at his side.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, April 1, 2007, at 2:00 P.M., in the North Main Baptist Church, 4709 North Main Street, Liberty, TX, with the Rev. Jimmie Clemmons officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairlawn cemetery in Liberty. The visitation will be held on Saturday evening from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at the North Main Baptist Church. Clarence was born on October 30, 1946 in Liberty, TX, to Joe Norris and Gertrude McCollum Norris. He lived in the Liberty area all of his life and married Linda J. Smart. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He attended Lee College for two years, and enjoyed sports, family and the grandchildren. He was a member and very active at the North Main Baptist Church for years. Clarence was an electrician for the Targa Resources in Mont Belvieu, TX for more than twenty five years.

He is preceded in death by a sister: Nancy Bonner.

The survivors are his wife: Linda J. Norris, of Liberty, TX, two daughters: Karen and Randy Humber, and Rhonda and Donnie Golleher, both of Liberty, TX, three grandchildren; Haley Regian, Madison Regian, and Gracie Golleher, six brothers: Joe Norris, of Huntsville, Aubrey Norris of Pinehurst, TX, Robert Norris, of Macedonia, Donnie Norris, of Hardin, TX, James Norris, of Liberty, and Marvin Norris, of Hull, TX, two sisters: Mary Lue Chesson, of Hardin, TX, and Susan Norris, of Liberty, TX.

Cowan

Charles E. Cowan, Jr., 65, of Dayton, died Saturday, March 31, 2007, at the San Jacinto Methodist – Alexander Campus in Baytown.

Mass of Christian burial will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, April 2, 2007, at the St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church with burial following at St. Anne’s Catholic cemetery.

Visitation will be held Monday, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. with Rosary services at 10 a.m., at the church. Services are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.

Charles was born April 11, 1941 in Lake Cormorant, MS, to parents; Charles E., Sr. and Marriett McElhaney Cowan, and has resided in the Dayton area for the past 24 years.

He was a graduate of the Sacred Heart Catholic High School, security officer for Pinkerton and Wells Fargo, a former pro wrestler, and enjoyed guitar, poetry, gardening, and raising birds.

Mr. Cowan was preceded in death by his parents and sons: James and Charles Michael Cowan.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years: Linda Cloninger Cowan of Dayton, daughter: Janie Wendell and husband Phillip of Crosby, son: Carl Cowan and wife Anna of Dayton, six granddaughters: Heather, Taylor, Chasity, Jamie, Mandie, and Kellie, sister: Sheryl Stovall and husband Larry of MS, nephews: David and Jason Stovall of MS, and numerous other relatives, and friends.

Herrington

M. W. “Bill” Herrington, 65, of Dayton, died Thursday, March 29, 2007, at the San Jacinto Methodist Hospital in Baytown.

Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 3, 2007, at the Pace-Stancil Funeral Home with burial following at a later date in Kansas. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., Monday, at the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.

Bill was born April 19, 1941 in Coffeyville, KS, to parents; Lawrence and Jane Everett Herrington, a former resident of Pasadena, and has resided in the Dayton area for the past 25 years. He was a veteran of the US Navy, retired millwright from C.C.C. Construction, had attended the Coffeyville Junior College, and enjoyed sports, working with horses, fishing, hunting, growing tomatoes, and spending time with friends and family. He will always be remembered, as a man who never knew a stranger.

Mr. Herrington was preceded in death by his parents, daughter: Sherri Lea Herrington, brother: Larry “Rusty” Herrington, father-in-law: Shorty Walker, and son-in-law: Neil Heighton. He is survived by his wife of 46 years: Juanita Walker Herrington of Dayton, son: David Herrington and wife Cyndi of Dayton, daughters: Lori Heighton of South Coffeyville, OK and Crystal Lee and husband Dwayne of Baytown, five grandchildren: Kevin King, Christopher Heighton, Brandi King, Ryan Herrington, and Ashley Heighton, sister: Linda Simpson and husband Jerry of Highlands, brother: Wendell “Skip” Herrington and wife Sandy of Grasston, MN, mother-in-law: Ruth Walker of Coffeyville, KS, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

James Doil Clay Jr.

James Doil Clay Jr. of Dayton, TX, died Tuesday, March 27, 2007at Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston, TX.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, March 30, 2007 at the North Main Baptist Church in Liberty, TX with Rev. Jimmie Clemmons officiating. Interment will follow at Menard Chapel cemetery in Schwab City. Visitation will be Thursday, March 29 from 5 PM until 8 PM at the church.

James was born in to parents, James D. Clay Sr. and Willie McInnis on May 11, 1925 in Malakoff, TX. He was terminal manager for J.H. Rose Trucking and also worked for National Pipe and Tube. James graduated from Malakoff High School and attended Texas A. & M.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Bruce Clay; sister, Bobbie Rogers; son, Jack V. Stovall and granddaughter, Stephanie Boothe.

James is survived by his wife of forty-nine years, Lucille Clay; son, James W. Stovall of Livingston; two daughters, Diane Boothe and her husband, Wade of Dayton and Suzzane Meisenheimer and her husband Carter of Burleson and one brother William Thomas Clay and wife Elizabeth of Lipan, TX.

Killen

William “Willie” P. Killen, 68, of Dayton, passed away Tuesday, March 27, 2007 after a sudden illness. He was a native of Arkansas and had lived in the Dayton area for over 30 years where he had worked as a welder before retiring. Willie had a great love for fishing, hunting and gardening. He most of all enjoyed watching his grandchildren playing ball. He was a member of the First Baptist Church.

Services for Mr. Killen will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, March 30, 2007 at First Baptist Church in Dayton with the Rev. Randy Piatt officiating. Interment will follow at Magnolia Park cemetery under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Thursday evening, 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers. He is survived by his wife, Mary Killen of Dayton; his daughter: Kimberly Renee Killen of Crosby; his son: Melvin C. Medlin of Dayton; his daughter-in-law: Julie Medlin of Dayton; three grandchildren: Blake, Hunter, and Kaitlynn of Dayton; brothers: Houston Potter and wife Eula of Louisiana and Harold Baxter Killen and wife Kathleen of Clear Lake; sisters: Virginia of and Catherine both of Arkansas.

Ross

Baby Jenna Y. Ross, infant daughter of Alicia Y. Ross, died March 23, 2007, at her residence.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, March 29, 2007, at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home with burial following at Palms Memorial Park cemetery in Dayton. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Thursday at the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.

Jenna was born September 15, 2006, in Baytown, and was a resident of Dayton.

Miss Ross was preceded in death by her maternal great-grandfathers: Wash Ross and Arthur Gordon. She is survived by her mother: Alicia Y. Ross of Dayton, brother: Jonathon M. Denson of Dayton, maternal grandfather: Johnny Ross and wife Cheryl of Raywood, maternal grandmother: Jerlester Ross of Kinder, LA, maternal great-grandmothers: Rachel Pruitt of Jacksonville, FL. and Lizzie B. Gordon of AR., and numerous aunts, uncles, and other relatives.

Rives

Allen Wallace Rives, 79, of Spring, Texas, died March 26, 2007, at Northwest Medical Center in Houston, Texas.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 29, 2007 at 2 P.M. at Hardin Methodist Church in Hardin, Texas with Reverend Gideon Watson and Reverend Brian Harkness officiating. Interment will follow at Hardin Chapel cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, March 28, 2007, from 6 PM until 8 PM at Allison Funeral Service, in Liberty, Texas.

Mr. Rives was born November 17, 1927, in Hardin, Texas to parents, Wallace Oliver Rives and Ella Pet Cessna. He served in the United States Army during World War II, and upon discharge from the Army he joined the Air Force Reserves. He married Letha Mae Shauberger on February 5, 1949, and together raised three children. He was a member of the Klein United Methodist Church of Spring. He was a fifty year member and past Master of the Liberty Masonic Lodge #48 A.F.&A.M. He was a Shriner, and a member of the Scottish Rite, and the Lions Club of Hardin. He retired from Exxon as an operator. He loved reading, feeding and watching birds and gardening and enjoyed sharing his vegetables that he would grow.

Allen was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Letha Mae Rives, one son, Allen Kent Rives and wife Patti, two daughters, Pamela Kay Eakin and husband Jimmy, Karen Lynn Gnagey and husband Fritz, six grandchildren, Robin Marie Rives, Natalie Rose Miller and husband Kevin, James Eakin III and wife Heather, Robert Allen Eakin, Laura Elizabeth Gnagey, Kathryn Kay Gnagey, one great-grandchild, Caleb Rives Miller, two brothers, James Byron Rives and wife Bobbie, Carroll “Bennie” Rives and wife Norma, four sisters, Florence Kaufman, Ruby Lee Price, Annie Jo Davis, Janell Hunt and husband Dowell, and many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
