Loyd Garner, 58, of Dayton, died Friday, February 23, 2007 at his home in Dayton.

He was born October 27, 1948 in Morgan City, Louisiana to parents, Loyd, Sr.and Pearline Lawrence Garner. He had been a resident of this area for the past 3 years, previously living in Houston. Loyd was a carpenter by trade. Loyd enjoyed fishing, working on his land and working with horses. He was an outdoorsman at heart.

He was preceded in death by his father, and is survived by his wife: Beverly Garner of Dayton; his sons: Jathan Garner of Alexandria and Michael Griffith and wife Candy of Mabank, Texas his daughter: Shaina Garner of Alexandria; his mother: Pearline Garner of Alexandria; his brothers: Geral Garner and wife Terri of Dayton, William Garner of Alexandria and Ronnie Laurent of Montgomery, LA; his sisters: Remona Blood and husband Lester of Colfax, La, Karen Sue Hall and husband Danny of Boyce, LA, Amanda Silmon and husband Tony of Bastrop, LA, Virginia Rominger and Margo Johnson of Alexandria; brothers in law: Lynton Ellisor and Aaron Ellisor of Houston and grandchildren: Dalton Phillips, Trevor Garner, Crystal Garner, Kaylee Griffith, Averie Griffith and Faith Griffith; numerous nieces and nephews.

Arrangements under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home, Dayton. Family requests memorial contributions be made to: The American Cancer Society.

Scarbrough

Jolynn Scarbrough, 59, of Dayton, died Friday, February 23, 2007 in Houston at Memorial Hermann Hospital.

She was born March 12, 1947 in Houston to parents, Sam and Dane Norman Giannukas. She had been a resident of this area for the past 18 years, previously living in Houston. JoLynn had worked for 13 years as an operator with the Houston Metro and was currently employed by Renzenberger, Inc. shuttling for the railroad. She was a former member of the Transport Workers Local 260. She enjoyed her animals, going on trail rides, driving, dancing and cooking for her family.

Graveside Services will be 2:00 p.m., Monday, February 26, 2007 at Hardin Chapel cemetery in Hardin with Rev. Rex Forsyth officiating. The family will receive friends 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Sunday, February 25, 2007 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home, Dayton.

She was preceded in death by her father, Sam Giannukas and her brother, Nick Giannukas and is survived by her husband: Victor Wessels of Dayton; daughter: Janet L. Schraer of Waco; sons: Tommy Edwards and Patrick Schraer of Waco; her mother: Dane Norman Joyce of Houston; her brothers: Norman Giannukas and Tommy Joyce of Houston; four grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Davis

Funeral service for Velee Davis, 80, will be held on Saturday, February 24, at 11 am at St. John Missionary Baptist Church, the Rev. Edwin Hardy officiating with burial in Wells Memorial cemetery.

A native of Liberty, he was a construction worker, a former student of Liberty Training High School, he was a member of St. John Baptist Church.

He died on February 20, at Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston, Texas after a brief illness.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 am until time of service at the church.

He is survived by two daughter: Barbara Gants and husband Earl Jr. and Vanessa Clark and husband Glenn, both of Liberty, Texas; one son: Kevin Antoine, of Beaumont, Texas; one brother: Homer L. Davis of Houston, Texas; a special friend: Geraldine Ford of Liberty and a host of other relative and friends.

Vinson

Victoria Vinson, 53, of Liberty, died due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident Thursday, February 22, 2007.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 24, 2007 at 10 A. M. at the First Baptist Church in Liberty. Rev. Don Shannon will be officiating. Interment will follow at Cooke cemetery in Liberty. Visitation will be Friday, February 23 from 5 PM until 8 PM at the Allison Funeral Service in Liberty.

Victoria was born on October 19, 1953 in Liberty, TX to parents, Richard David and Evelyn Marie Kitchen Richardson. She worked as a legal secretary in the Busby Law Firm in Humble. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Liberty. Victoria enjoyed music, singing and playing the guitar as well as crafts and walking.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Evelyn Marie Richardson and her brother Stephen David Richardson.

Victoria is survived by her father, Richard David Richardson of Liberty; daughter, Lindsay McBride and her husband Michael and their daughter, Taylor Marie McBride all of Fort Worth; two sisters, Kathryn Louise Knight of Liberty and Beverly Ann Shannon of Coldspring. She is also survived by Lindsay’s father, John Vinson of Liberty; nieces, Jamie Randolph and Emma Randolph; nephew, Kevin Knight and grand-nephew Xavier Randolph.

McMullan

Blaz Denton McMullan of Muldrow, Oklahoma, was born November 2, 1987 in Humble, Texas to Jay D. and Dina (Peters) McMullan and died on Tuesday, February 20, 2007 in Azle, Texas at the age of 19 years.

He is survived by his mother and step-father Dina Edwards and Randy Edwards of Muldrow, OK; three sisters, Krishina McMullan, Kasha McMullan and DiRan Edwards all of the home; two brothers, Shandall Edwards of Fort Smith, AR and Troy Edwards of Muldrow, OK; grandparents, Ava and Harold Peters of Muldrow, OK and Joe D. McMullan of Devers, TX.

Blaz attended Muldrow High School with the class of 2006, he played football and golf for four years and was working as a Heavy Equipment Operator when he was accepted to attend Blinn College in Brenham, Texas.

Funeral services will be held Monday, February 26, 2006 at 2:00 pm at the First Assembly of God Church in Muldrow, Oklahoma with burial at Blackjack cemetery in Muldrow, Oklahoma under the direction of Mallory-Martin Funeral Home in Sallisaw, Oklahoma.

Brown

Ocie Brown, 95, of Houston, died Sun., Feb. 18, 2007.

Born July 4, 1911 in Hardin, Texas to parents, Thomas and Sarah DeVore Miller. A long time resident of Houston, she was a member of the Eastern Star and Central Baptist Church of Bellaire.

Services for Mrs. Brown will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 22, 2007 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Randy Piatt officiating. Interment will follow at Guedry cemetery in Batson, Texas.

Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Brown; daughter, Glenda Boyd; daughter-in-law, Patricia Bronw; granddaughter, Cheri Brown; brothers, Thomas, Herbert and W. D. Miller; sister, Hilda Van Dorn. She is survived by son, Ralph Brown of Dallas; grandchildren, Patrick Brown, Sandra Wittwer and husband Chris, Kenny DuCharme, Melanie Page, Debra Yzaguirre and husband Kevin, and René DuCharme; fourteen great-grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and sister-in-law, Norene Miller.

Jackson

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Owen Joseph Jackson, 57, of Raywood, Texas, on Friday, February 23, at 10 am at Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church, Ames, Texas, with The Reverend Father Ikeokwu Nduh M. S. P., Celebrant, with burial in Ames Catholic cemetery.

A native of Liberty he was a truck driver. A veteran of the United States Army he died, February 18. 2007, at his residence in Raywood after an illness.

Visitation will be held Friday at the church from 8am until time of service.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Glenn Jackson of Raywood; one son: Andre Nakia Fountain of Raywood; three daughters: Ramona A. Jackson and Owennette R. Jackson, both of Raywood and Unjoli S. Fountain of Houston, Texas; one brother: Earl Jackson, Jr. of Ames; one sister: Joyce Montgomery of Houston, Texas and a host of other relatives and friends.

Cleveland

Sherry Lea Cleveland, 63, of Caldwell, Texas, died February 17, 2007 in Houston, Texas.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 21, 2007 at 10 a.m. at the Allison Funeral Service Chapel in Liberty. Reverend Tim Gruver will officiate. Visitation will be Tuesday, February 20, 2007 from 5 PM until 8 PM at Allison Funeral Service.

Sherry was born August 7, 1943 in Tyler, Texas to parents Johnny Leonard Majors and Ina Jane Sanders. She attended Kingwood Community College. She was a home healthcare provider. She was involved with Toys for Tots, and scout mother for the Boy Scouts, and clowned for parties at the Liberty Go-Cart track. She enjoyed shopping and going to flea markets.

She was preceded in death by her father, one brother, Robert Neal, and one grandson, Tony Rivas.

Sherry is survived by her mother, three daughters, Terrie Threet, Clara Rivas, Pam Meadows, two sons, Calvin Wood, David Cleveland, One brother, John “Bud” Majors, three sisters, Janice Morgan, Sylvia Luntz, Joyce Hughes and many other relatives and friends.

Arreozola

Ignacio Arreozola, 46, of Liberty, died February 19, 2007 in Dayton, Texas.

Visitation will be Monday, February 19, 2007 from 5pm until 8pm at Allison Funeral Service. Rosary will be recited at 7pm at Allison Funeral Service Chapel. The funeral service will be Tuesday, February 20, 2007, at 2:00pm at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Liberty, Texas. Rev. David Edwards and Deacon Luther Wells will officiate. Burial will follow in the Liberty Catholic cemetery.

Ignacio was born May 5, 1960 in Acuna Mexico to parents Margarito Arreozola and Maria Del Refugio De La Rosa. He had been a resident of Liberty since 1986. He was employed by Martin Marietta Railyard in Dayton, Texas. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Liberty.

He is survived by his parents, his wife, Josefina Arreozola, one son, Jorge Arreozola, two daughters, Karla Arreozola, Mayra Arreozola, brother, Margarito Arreozola, one sister, Digna Hernandez and many other relatives and friends.

Beal

Karen K. “K.K” Beal, 38, of Deer Park, died Friday, February 16, 2007, in Baytown.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 20, 2007, at the Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel with burial following at Magnolia Park cemetery in Dayton. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.., Monday, at the funeral home. Services are under the direction Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.

Karen was born February 13, 1969 in Pasadena, to parents; Ronnie Beal, Sr. and Linda Cryer, a former resident of LaPorte, and has resided in the Deer Park area for the past four years. She was a graduate of the Dayton High School class of 1988, member of the Clear Point Church, and was previously employed as an accounting clerk. She also enjoyed drawing and cooking.

Miss Beal was preceded in death by her father: Ronnie Beal, Sr. and stepfather: James Eubank. She is survived by her mother: Linda Cryer Tidwell of Deer Park, sisters: Kimberly Johnston and husband Jason of Deer Park, Lori Eubanks of Katy, Deanna Miller and husband Mark of Tomball, and Lynn Clark of Austin, brother: Ronnie Beal, Jr. of Dayton, companion: Richard Street of Baytown, nine nieces, two nephews, and numerous other relatives, and friends.

Umfrid

Jewel D. Fowler Umfrid, 64, of Dayton, died Friday, February 16, 2007, at the Methodist Hospital in Houston.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 21, 2007, at the Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel with graveside services at 1:00 p.m., at the Allison cemetery in Warren. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., Tuesday, at the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.

Jewel was born December 2, 1942 in Jigger, LA to parents; Robert Fowler and Carrie Williams, was a former resident of Crosby, and has resided in the Dayton area for the past 11 years. She was a graduate of the Ft. Necessity High School, received certification in nursing from the Baytown Technical School, and a retired home health nurse after 10 years of service with the Physicians Visiting Nurses of Dayton. She also enjoyed cooking, sewing, and her yard work.

Mrs. Umfrid was preceded in death by her husband: Raymond A. “Buck” Umfrid, father: Robert Fowler, and brother: Walter Lee “Buck” Fowler. She is survived by her daughters: Rene Russell and husband Robert of Dayton, Shannon Strybos and husband Gabe of Dayton, and Sherry Hynum and husband Everette of Dayton, son: Charles Roy Wallace and wife Brandi of Dayton, mother: Carrie Williams Lishman of Longview, sisters: Bobbie Jean Arnold of Gilbert, LA, Margaret Campbell of Crosby, and Maxine Campbell of Ore City, brother: Robert Fowler of Longview, eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Hickman

Florence Hickman, 92, of Batson died at her home on Friday, February 16, 2007.

Funeral services will be held Monday, February 19, 2007 at 2 P.M. at the Batson Prairie Baptist Church in Batson. Rev. Lee Gruver and Rev. Butch Perkins will officiate. Visitation will be Sunday, February 18 from 5 PM until 9 PM at the church. Interment will follow at the Guedry cemetery in Batson.

Florence was born on May 8, 1914 to parents, Charles Finch and Esther Smith Daniel. She worked as a Dietician for West Hardin CISD for twenty-one years. She was the oldest living charter member of Batson Prairie Baptist Church at the time of her death. She was always very faithful in her attendance to church. She served as Sunday School Secretary for twenty years. She enjoyed working in her garden and sewing.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, James Godfrey “Boots” Hickman; son, Cordell Hickman; granddaughter, Kimberly Ann Loftin; daughter-in-law, Linda Hickman; brothers, Ernest, Nathan and Donald Daniel and sisters, Coliste Ray and Opal Edward.

Florence is survived by her son, Travis Hickman of Conroe; daughters, Jimmie Warner and husband Tom and Vivian Henry and husband Walter all of Batson; brother, Basil and wife Beth Daniel and sister, Jewel Hales. Also surviving are eleven grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Mavis Daniel and Helen Daniel and niece Billie Hughes.

Van Dyke

Mamie Eliza (Frankland) Hawkins Van Dyke was born in Galveston, Texas on July 9, 1927 to Colville and Annie (Davis) Frankland. She died at her home in Tyler, Texas on February 13, 2007 after a short illness.

She was the widow of A. D. (Dan) Hawkins and Jon Van Dyke. The family will receive friends on Friday, February 16, 2007 from 5:00 P. M. until 9:00 P. M. at Sterling Funeral Home in Anahuac.

She is survived by her Daughter: Jesse Lyn Hawkins; Grandchildren: Dan Meyer, Mamie Edwards, and Annie Donnell; Great-Grandchildren: Michael, Ronnie and Megan Meyer, Brendon, Bradley, Samantha, Savannah, Taz and Mena Edwards; Brothers-in-law: Loney Babineaux of Jennings, LA. and J. H. (H’ee) Harris of St. Rose, LA.; Sister-in-law: Nettie Frankland of Anahuac as well as two generations of nieces and nephews to whom the word’s “Aunt Mamie” still mean magic. She was a 50 year member of the First Baptist Church in Anahuac and a present member of the First Baptist Church in Tyler. Mrs. Van Dyke had a life long love for the written word and while still in high school wrote the society column for the Anahuac Progress News and later became its editor. She is the author of the novel, “Jennifer’s Rainbeau”. She was a graduate of Anahuac High School, and attended Baylor University. She was also a graduate of San Jacinto College with degrees in both Publishing and Photography.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A. M. on Saturday, February 17, 2007 at Sterling Funeral Home in Anahuac with Father William Tomlin officiating. Burial will follow at Anahuac cemetery in Anahuac.

Cooper

Sonya Fredricka Ellison Cooper, 56, of Dayton, died February 13, 2007 at Kingwood Medical Center after an extended illness. She was born August 11, 1950 in Sylacauga, Alabama to parents Fred and Omitter Guinns Ellison. She had lived in this area for the past twenty years and had been owner/operator of Sonya’s in Huffman. She enjoyed crocheting, especially for her grandchildren.

Memorial Service for Mrs. Cooper will be 4:00 p.m., Friday, February 16, 2007 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel in Dayton.

She was preceded in death by her parents and is survived by her husband: James Cooper of Dayton; her son: Steven Cooper and wife Krishna of Baytown; her daughter: Anglea Reeves and husband Chris of Kingwood; her granddaughters: Savannah Reeves of Kingwood, Ericka Cooper of Alabama and Breanna Van Bloem of Kingwood; her grandsons: JoeDee Reeves of Kingwood and Kaden Cooper of Baytown.

Boatman

David L. Boatman, 39, of Huffman, died Monday, February 12, 2007, at his residence. He was born September 3, 1967 in Nacogdoches, to parents; William “Bill” Boatman and Jessie Franklin, a former resident of Baytown, and has resided in the Huffman area for the past six years. He was a former offshore electrician for the International Electric Company of Houston, member of the Cypress Point Baptist Church, and enjoyed fishing and the beach.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, February 17, 2007, at the Huffman cemetery, with burial following thereafter. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Friday at the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.

Mr. Boatman is survived by his wife of 18 years: Tonya Arnold Boatman of Huffman, son: Cody Arnold of Huffman, daughters: Amber Arnold of Humble, Ashley Arnold of Atascocita, and Jessica Boatman of Huffman, one grandchild: Brayden Yester, father: William “Bill” Boatman and wife Inez of Houston, mother: Jessie Dillard and husband Ray of White House, sister: Jeanne Foxworth and husband Billy of Nacogdoches, brothers: Glen Shippey and wife Lisa of Livingston, Lynn Shippey and wife Kathy of Longview, and George Shippey and wife Wendy of Texarkana and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
