Potetz

John Paul Potetz, Sr., 88, of Liberty, died Sunday, March 26, 2006, at home after an extended illness. He was born March 11, 1918 in Shady Side, Ohio to parents, Louis and Theresa Sinko Potetz, European immigrants. He grew up in Ohio and served in the U. S. Army during World War II.

After returning from the war, John Paul moved to Florida, and on to Liberty in 1950. It was five years later when he co-created P & H Construction Company and in 1968 he created Potetz Home Center. He enjoyed hunting and fishing although he was a workaholic. He was quoted as saying, “If it is worth doing-it is worth doing right”.

Services for Mr. Potetz will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 28, 2006 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home with Mr. Roy Bennett officiating. Interment will follow at Cooke cemetery in Liberty.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister: Theresa Francis and his brother: Max Potetz. He is survived by sons: Louie Potetz and wife Susan of Liberty, Mike Potetz and wife Robin of Liberty, Johnny Paul Potetz and wife Donna of Liberty; daughters: Theresa Potetz of Liberty, Ruth Cain of Liberty and Kerry Dillard and wife Glyn of Old River; Fourteen Grandchildren and Seventeen Great-grandchildren; sisters: Ann Devendra of Bellaire, Ohio and Coletta Sbrockey of Shady Side, Ohio.

The family will receive friends Monday, March 27, 2006, 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton, Texas.

Quimby

Johnny Cain Quimby, age 73, of Liberty, died at his home Wednesday, March 1, 2006.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 4, 2006 at 10:00 A. M., at Allison Funeral Service 1101 North Travis Street, Liberty, TX. A visitation will be held on Friday, March 3, 2006, at Allison from 5:00 P. M. until 8:00 P. M.

Johnny was born on June 29, 1932 in Tuscaloosa, AL, to John and Estelle Moore Curtis. He graduated from the Tuscaloosa High School in 1950, and joined the Navy and served during the Korean conflict. He was a truck driver for the Buckeye Pipeline Inc of Liberty, TX. and a member of the Baptist church. He enjoyed traveling in the Smokey Mountains.

Johnny is preceded in death by his parents, a sister: Margaret Burba, two brothers: Wallace and Gerald Quimby. Survivors are his wife of 51 years: Louise Bracewell Quimby, of Liberty, TX. a son and daughter-in-law: Bill and Stephanie Quimby, of Liberty, TX, a daughter and son-in-law: Cindi and David Alvey of Alvarado, TX, brother: Thomas Shirley Quimby of Tuscaloosa, AL., brother and sister-in-law: Carl and Audrey Bracewell, brother and sister-in-law: Eugene & Priscialla Bracewell, sister-in-law: Dorothy Nugent, sister and brother-in-law: Anne and David Skagga, sister-in-law: Carolyn Maddox, brother-in-law: John Bracewell, and Barney Bracewell. Seven grand children: Tessa & Greg Joyner, Kisna Quimby, Tony & Chantay Alvey, Joshua Alvey, and Justin Quimby. And seven great grandchildren: Gregory Joyner, Taylor Alvey, Chandler Joyner, Cayden Joyner, Joey Alvey, Trinity Alvey, and Peyton Alvey, and a host of other family member and friends.

Byrne

Roy Edward Byrne, loving husband, father, brother and friend, died on February 27, 2006.

He was born on October 29, 1947, in Kansas City, Kansas, graduated in 1965 from Shawnee Mission West High School in Overland Park, Kansas, served his country in the Army from 1966 to 1968 and was a devoted employee with Union Pacific Railroad for 32 years. Upon retirement, he and his wife enjoyed life through travel, love of animals and gardening.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Joan Byrne, and survived by his loving wife of 20 years Renee Byrne, children Molly, Amy, Thomas and Megan Byrne, their mother Mary Byrne, brother David Byrne, sisters Diane Szezygiel, Jodi Utterback and Shelly Seay, and his loyal dog Buddy.

Service will be Saturday 2pm at Sterling Funeral Chapel in Dayton with burial at Linney cemetery. Visitation 5-9pm Friday at Sterling Funeral Home. “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” II Timothy 4:7.

Thompson

Bernice Ailene Lilley Thompson, 79, of Liberty, died Saturday, February 25, 2006 at Magnolia Place after an extended illness.

Mrs. Thompson was born Feb. 9, 1927 in Livingston to parents E.R. and Cora Collins Lilley. Bernice lived in the Saratoga area for 50 plus years, and Dayton for two years, before moving to Liberty. She was a retired florist, loved working in her yard and gardening. She played the piano and was a member of the Central Baptist Church in Kountze.

Mrs. Thompson was preceded in death by her late husband and father of her children: A.J. Castilaw, her parents, and brother: Alvin Lilley.

Mrs. Thompson is survived by her husband: Bill Thompson of Kountze, daughters: Gale Morrison and husband John of Nederland, Elaine Wells and husband Calvin of Saratoga, Kay Carmichael and husband Hugh of Dayton; sons: Wayne Castilaw and wife Kay of Saratoga and Donnie Castilaw and wife Rhonda of Saratoga; brother: J.T. Lilley of Saratoga, sister: Faye Wilson of Saratoga; twelve grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren.

Graveside service will be held 2 pm, Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2006 at Big Sandy cemetery in Dallardsville, Texas. Visitation will be held, Monday, Feb. 27, 2006 from 4pm to 8pm at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel in Dayton.

Youngblood

James Grady Youngblood, 96, of Hull, died Saturday, Feb. 25, 2006 at Fairy’s Landing in Hull.

Mr. Youngblood was born April 29, 1909 in Humble, Texas to parents: Robert and Bertha Youngblood. He was a resident of the Hull area over 50 years. He attended Rice Institute and worked with wildcatter-Jim West. He later retired from Texaco after 41 years and also worked in Bogata, Columbia in the oilfield over 18 years. He was a lifetime member of the Lions club.

Mr. Youngblood was preceded in death by his parents; brother: Bobby and sister: Hilda. He is survived by his loving wife of 70 years: Gladys Cole Youngblood of Hull, three nieces and one nephew.

Graveside service will be Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at Rosewood cemetery in Humble, Texas.

Moore

Necie Moore, 89, of Liberty, died February 20, 2006 at Magnolia Place Nursing Center in Liberty, Texas.

Funeral services will be held at 10 A.M., Thursday, February 23 at the Allison Funeral Service Chapel in Liberty, TX. Reverend Randy Fitzgerald and Reverend Gideon Watson will officiate. Burial will follow in the Guedry cemetery in Batson, Texas.

Mrs. Moore was born in Milam, TX on April 10, 1916 to parents Hatley Coward and Pearl Griffin Coward. She graduated high school in Saratoga, Texas and later went to Beauty School and became a Cosmetologist. She was a member of Batson United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Clyde J. Moore, and a daughter, Sharon Ruth Moore.

Mildred is survived by her nieces and nephews.

Brand

Kenneth Paul Brand, age 34, of Dayton, died Friday, February 17, 2006, in The Hermann Memorial Hospital in Houston, TX.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 20, 2006 at the First United Methodist Church 539 Main Street, Liberty, TX. At 2:00 P. M., with Burial in the Liberty City cemetery. A visitation will be held on Sunday, February 19, 2006 at Allison Funeral Service, from 4; 00 P. M., until 7:00 P.M.

He was born on November 11, 1971, in the Hermann Memorial Hospital in Houston, TX. To Kenneth Ward Brand and Katherine (Paasch) Scherdick Brand. He was a Liberty High School graduate in the class of 1990. He was very artistic, and enjoyed working in math and science. He was a U.S. Naval Academy nominee and had a scholarship to UT Pan American University. He received the Spanish II Award Jacket and was all State Track 1600 meter and 3200 meter district champion in 1989 and 1990.

Kenneth was a switchman for the CMC Rail Road Inc in Dayton and a member of the United Methodist Church. Kenneth enjoyed playing the guitar, snowboarding, BBQ-grilling and listing to music.

Kenneth is preceded in death by his grandparents: Blanch Cartright Scherdick and Anton Paasch Scherdick, his best friend: Shawn Michael Murphy. Survivors are his Wife: Rebekah Leigh Ann Brand of Dayton, TX, One daughter: Jenna Kay Brand and, parents: Kenneth Ward Brand of Liberty, TX and Katherine Paasch Scherdick Brand, brother: Marcus Travis Brand, grandparents: Travis Ward and Ruth Donnette Brand, of Liberty, TX, parents-in-law: Tom and Brenda Martin, aunt and uncle: Donna Kay and Johnny Paul Potetz, sisters-in-law: Rachael and Andrea Martin, and Kristi Lynn Brand Baucum. And a host of nephews and nieces and other Family members.

Byrom

Minnie LaVerne Byrom, 63, of Double Bayou, died Saturday, February 18, 2006 at the Silver Springs Nursing Home in Houston.

She was born October 2, 1942, in Orange, Texas, to her late Parents: Leonard L. Johnson and Eleanor Moore Johnson. LaVerne had lived in the Double Bayou area for the last 30 years attended the Anahuac Assembly of God Church and formerly worked as a beautician at the Lemon Tree and Lake Anahuac Beauty Salons in Anahuac. She also enjoyed fishing and playing dominos and cards.

Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 22, 2006 at the Anahuac Assembly Of God with Rev. Bob Lawrence officiating. Burial will follow at the Jackson cemetery in Double Bayou under the direction of Sterling Funeral Home in Anahuac. She is survived by: Husband: Nathan Byrom of Double Bayou; Children: Carol Redding of Anahuac, Benita Rubado and her husband David of Lake George, New York, Deborah Cooper and her husband Thomas of Double Bayou, Emmette Byrom and his wife Danielle of Baytown and Natalie Bull and her husband Ken of Kemah; Sisters: Betty Mooney of Anahuac and Grace David of Clancy, Montana; 16 Grandchildren and 2 Great-Grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her Parents: Leonard L. Johnson and Eleanor Moore Johnson. Pallbearers will be: Thomas Cooper, Sean Shaw, Marc Redding, George Randolph Lagow, Derrick Trahan and Glenn Byrom.

Honorary Pallbearers will be: Kenneth Bull, Mitchell Mooney, Joel Mooney, David Rubado and Ryan Rubado. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 21, 2006 at the Sterling Funeral Home in Anahuac.

White

Linda M. Ulkie White, 51, of Dayton, died, Saturday, February 18, 2006, at the MD Anderson Hospital in Houston.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 3 Pm, Monday, February 20, 2006, at the St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church with burial following at Linney cemetery in Dayton. Visitation will be held from 5 Pm to 9 Pm, with rosary services at 7 Pm, Sunday, at the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.

Linda was born October 9, 1954 in Dayton, to parents; L. J. and Sadie Gregory Ulkie, and has resided in the Dayton area throughout her life. She was a farmer, graduate of the Dayton High School class of 1973, Liberty County Master Gardner, member of the St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church and former Alter Guild member, member of the American Rose Society, former Dayton High School employee, and enjoyed gardening, rose gardening, crocheting, and cooking.

Mrs. White was preceded in death by her parents, brother: James Ulkie, and sister: Dorothy Graves. She is survived by her husband of 32 years: Pat White of Dayton, daughter: Kristie Marcontell and husband Ronnie of Dayton, son: James P. ŒJimmy‚ White, Jr. of Dayton, brothers: Johnny Ulkie and wife Shirley of Dayton and Archie Ulkie and wife Patsy of Dayton, sister-in-law: Donna Ulkie of Dayton, three grandchildren: Jordan, Elanie, and Brittanie, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Wilson

Jerry L. Wilson, 57, of Dayton, died Friday, February 17, 2006, at his residence.

Memorial services will be held at a later date in Lufkin. Local arrangements are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.

Jerry was born November 5, 1948 in New Willard, to parents; Willie D. and Wanda L. Malone Wilson, a former resident of Pasadena and Crosby, and has resided in the Dayton area for three months. He was a millwright for Nabisco Brands of Houston for 19 years, member of the Millwrights Local #2232, and enjoyed collecting and games.

Mr. Wilson was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 14 years: Katherine L. Hallford Wilson of Dayton, stepchildren: Daniel Johnson of Crosby, Scott Weatherly of Baytown, and Samuel Johnson of Crosby, Christie Weatherly of Pasadena, Shirley Compton of Deming, NM, Brandy Weatherly of CA, and Dana Donnalley of ID, brother: Willie D. Wilson of IL, sisters: Linda Cole of Houston and Judy Trayler of Crystal Beach, 13 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Radley

J. Howard Radley, 74, of Sour Lake, died February 16, 2006 at his home.

A native of Hull, Texas and a lifelong resident of the area, he was the owner and president of Radley Electric and other family businesses. He graduated from Sour Lake High School in 1948 and was a member of First Baptist Church of Sour Lake. Achievements he accomplished in his life were, he was a fireman and assistant chief with the Sour Lake Volunteer Fire Department, was awarded Sour Lake Old Timer of the Year in 2003 and was self proclaimed as the "Ambassador of Smiles" Along with his achievements he also had many hobbies he enjoyed like going to the beach and was an avid photographer.

He is survived by his wife of fifty-seven years, Lois Johnson Radley of Sour Lake; children, Don Radley and his wife Julie, Joe Radley and Terry Radley and his wife Kerry all of Sour Lake; son-in-law, Guy Gatewood and his wife Gail of Sour Lake; brothers, Charles Radley and his wife Sue of Canyon Lake, Texas, Glen Radley and his wife Joyce and Rhea Radley and his wife Beverly all of Sour Lake; grandchildren, Ashley Radley Harvey and her husband Derek of Sour Lake, Christie Gatewood of Arlington, Alicia Radley Hughes and her husband Dave of Porter, Noel Radley Kurtzman and her husband Jeff of Austin, Lisa Gatewood Shaw and her husband Jason of Beaumont, Ava Radley of San Marcos, Carmen Radley of Austin, Andrew Radley of College Station, Whitney and Anna Radley of Austin, Joleen Radley of Silsbee, Bailey and Hannah Radley of Sour Lake and Steven Radley of Kountze; great grandchildren, Delaney Harvey of Sour Lake, Deana Shaw of Beaumont and Blake Hughes of Porter; and many other close relatives and friends.

Mr. Radley was preceded in death by his parents, E.E. and Ruth (Ferguson) Radley and his daughter, Colleen Radley Gatewood.

Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, February 18, 2006 at First Baptist Church of Sour Lake under the direction of Broussard's, 1605 North Major Drive followed by burial at Rosedale cemetery.

A gathering of family and friends will be Friday evening February 17, 2006 from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at the mortuary.

The family wishes to express gratitude to Dr. Elizabeth Rogg and the staff at The Diagnostic Clinic of Houston and the staff of Professional Health Care. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 5144, Beaumont, Texas 77726-5144 or First Baptist Church of Sour Lake, 325 West 7th Street, Sour Lake, Texas 77625.

Jordan

Barbara Jean Jordan, age 74, of Hull, died Monday at her home.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 16, 2006 at Allison Funeral Service 1101 North Travis Street, Liberty, Texas 77575 at 2:00 P. M. with the Reverend Jimmy Van Dorn officiating with burial in the Guedry cemetery, Batson, TX.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 15, 2006 at Allison from 5:00 P. M. until 8:00 P. M.

Barbara was born in Batson, TX, to Charlie McCreight and Myrtle Hickman McCreight on October 6, 1931.

Barbara was the manager and first cook for the Hull-Daisetta ISD School cafeteria. She was an outstanding cook, and her cakes and pies could not be beaten. She enjoyed crocheting and making jellies also. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW Post 5621 in Liberty and the Baptist church. She is preceded in death by her parents, two husbands: Jeff Vandia and Kenneth ‘Jack’ Jordan, three brothers: Wayne, Charles, and A. W. McCreight.

Survivors are her brothers: Jess Willard McCreight of Hull, TX, and George Shane McCreight of Liberty, TX, a sister: Joyce E. Deckert of Hull, TX, two step sons: Harold Wayne and wife Laura Jordan of Liberty, TX, and Kenneth Klein and wife Pam Jordan of Liberty., and Six Step Grandchildren: Aaron Jordan, Elizabeth Jordan, Leah Jordan, Heather Jordan, Kelly Jordan and Kolin Jordan, and a host of other family and friends.

Burks

Lester Burks, 88, of Dayton, died Monday, February 13, 2006 at the Cleveland Regional Hospital in Cleveland.

He was born June 22, 1917 in Houston to his late Parents: James Burks and Elizabeth Jones Burks. Lester resided in Dayton for the last 2 years after moving from Houston, where he had spent most of his life. He was a retired Inventory Manager from the Ford Motor Company after 24 years of service and was a U.S. Navy veteran.

Services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, February 16, 2006 at the Sterling Funeral Home Chapel in Dayton with Rev. Bill Giles officiating. A graveside service and Military Honors will be held at the Brookside Memorial Park in Houston at 3:00 p.m., Thursday, February 16, 2006.

Survivors include: Daughter: Jan Kennedy and her husband Jim of Dayton; Grandchildren: John Kennedy of Louisiana, Jeff Kennedy of Washington, Justin Kennedy of Houston and Jill Kennedy of Houston and several Nieces and Nephews.

Visitation will be Thursday, February 16, 2006, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., at the Sterling Funeral Home in Dayton.

Fatherree

Charles Robert Fatherree of Liberty, 77, died Saturday, Feb. 11, 2006, at Magnolia Place in Liberty. He was born December 2, 1928 in Ovett, Mississippi to parents Charles Longre and Marie Walters Fatherree. He served in the U. S. Navy and the U. S. Marines. He enjoyed fishing and racing cars. He had lived in this area for over 20 years.

Mr. Fatherree was preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 47 years: Claudia J. Holder Fatherree. He is survived by his sons: Mike Chambers and wife Sandra of Norman, Oklahoma, Don Lotspeich and wife Beth of Baytown, Jim Lotspeich and wife Kathy of Port Aransas, and Robert Fatherree, Jr. of Dayton; Daughters: Pat Petty and husband Jack of San Antonio, Jean Keeler and husband Dennis of Indiana, Karen Stroter of Houston and Ann Henscey and husband Pat of Dayton; twenty grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren; also numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A memorial service will follow at a later date in Henderson, Texas.
