Hamilton

Marcus L. Hamilton, 17, of Kenefick, passed away Saturday, June 28, 2003 in Tarkington Prairie.

He was a native of Houston, lived most of his life in the Dayton area and was a stocker at Thrif-Tee. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 1, 2003 at the Faith Tabernacle Pentecostals of Tarkington Church with Rev. Ken Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Ryan cemetery under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.

He is survived by: Parents: Harry and Phyllis Hamilton of Kenefick; Brothers: Titus Hamilton and his wife Janice of Kenefick, Lucas Hamilton and his wife Leslie of Dayton and Tomas Hamilton of Kenefick; Sisters: Zilke Clapp and her husband Billy of Dayton, Debbie Blank and her husband Neil of Kenefick and Christy Rogers and her husband Jimmy of Dayton; Grandparents: Melba Rae Hamilton of Halletsville, Dorothy Boyld of Houston and Wallace Jewett of Groves; Special Niece: Kristi Clapp of Dayton and numerous Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, Nieces and Nephews.

Pallbearers will be: Titus Hamilton, Lucas Hamilton, Tomas Hamilton, Billy Clapp, Neil Blank and Jimmy Rogers. Visitation will begin at 12:00 noon, Monday, June 30, 2003 at the Faith Tabernacle Pentecostals of Tarkington Church.

Neal

Jennifer Melton Neal, 34, of Huffman, passed away Saturday, June 28, 2003 at the Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston.

She was a native of Marks, Mississippi, a longtime resident of Huffman and worked in Automobile Sales.

A Graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 2, 2003 at the Eastgate Catholic cemetery with the Rev. David Miller officiating. Services will be under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.

She is survived by: Parents: Bobby Melton of Tarkington Prairie, Charlotte Jones Little of Mississippi, Margie Little Taylor and her husband Jeff of Highlands and Harold Neal of Mississippi; Son: Cody Jackson of Huffman; Brothers: Eddie Webb of Pasadena, Junior Neal of Mississippi, Mike Melton of Houston, Albert Neal of Mississippi and Michael Gaines of Mississippi; Sisters: Debbie Melton Neal Jones of Mississippi, Theresa Fitzpatrick of England and Stephanie Hugo of Brenham and Grandparents: Audrey Melton of Mississippi, Sammy Earl Little and his wife Maxine of Mississippi and Rita Stansberry of Mexia.

Visitation will begin at 5:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 1, 2003 at the Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel in Dayton.

Parker

E. Alan parker, 51, of Willis, Texas, died Thursday, June 26, 2003, at his residence.

Born in Liberty, Texas, on July 26, 1951 he attended Liberty Schools and graduated from Lamar University. He worked in oil field services.

His father, E. C. Parker, precedes him in death.

He is survived by his son Ryan Alan Parker of Houston; mother Ruth Parker of Liberty; sister and brother-in-law, Carolyn and Grey Wilkinson of Conroe; sister and brother-in-law, JoBeth Pete Willoughby of Liberty; nephew, Grey Wilkinson of Atlanta, Georgia; nieces, Melanie Steitle of Houston, Amy Whitehead of Clute, Becky Mayes of Flower Mound; and other relatives and friends.

Visitation for family and friends will be Sunday from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Allison Funeral Service in Liberty. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, June 30, 2003 at Cooke cemetery in Liberty with Rev. Lynn Davis officiating.

Reavis

Vera C. Jacobson Reavis, 83, of Dayton, passed away Sunday at her residence. Visitation will be held from 5pm-9 p.m. on Tuesday at Sterling Funeral Home in Dayton. Funeral Services will be held at 10am on Wednesday at Sterling Funeral Home in Dayton. Interment will follow at the Guedry cemetery in Batson.

Vera was born on November 25, 1919 in El Campo, Texas to parents Jacob Herbert Jacobson and Sarah Anderson. She has been a resident of Dayton for the last 3 years and had also lived in the Baytown and Raywood / Devers area.

Vera was a homemaker most of her life. She was a former member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Baytown, Devers First Baptist Church and Cornerstone Church in Liberty. For the last 3 1/2 years she attended Whispering Meadows Baptist Church in Dayton. Known for her giving nature she was a volunteer for Spirit of Sharing in Liberty for many years, received an award for volunteering the most hours and was the head of their Operation Noel program. She cleaned at her church and also visited nursing homes and ran errands for the residents. She received the Citizen of the Year Award from the Liberty Chamber of Commerce. She will be remembered as a kind and loving mother and grandmother who loved to cook and care for her family. She loved the Lord and spent most of her life serving the Lord.

Vera was preceded in death by her parents; husband, J.D. Reavis in 1981, her brothers, Paul and Clarence Jacobson and sister Alice Jacobson. She is survived by her daughters Betty Gregurek and husband Ed of Hearne, TX, Diane Robinson and husband Ronnie of Dayton, Beth Zagone and husband Chris of Shreveport, LA, her son Dale Reavis and wife Karen of Liberty and sisters Irene Ashwood and husband Gordon of Baytown, Margaret Hartzog of Sugarland and sister-in-law Velma Blanks. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Downs

Margaret Dearman Downs, 76, of Anahuac, died Sunday at her residence.

Visitation will be held from 5pm-9 p.m. on Wednesday at Sterling Funeral Home in Anahuac. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30am on Thursday at Sterling Funeral Home in Anhuac. The Rev. Nolan Taylor will officiate. Interment will follow at Hardin Chapel cemetery in Hardin.

Margaret was born on June 14, 1927 in Meridian, Mississippi, to parents Oscar Dorman and Mary Elize. She has been a resident of the Anahuac and Hardin area for over 40 years. She had worked as a waitress at the City Café in Anahuac during the 70’s. She enjoyed fishing and watching television. She was know to speak her mind and loved and worked very hard raising her children and grandchildren.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents and husband Lloyd Downs. She is survived by her daughters, Mary (Jan) McCartney and her husband Benny of Hardin, TX, and Margaret Ann Ojedia of Anahuac, TX, her sons Dale Dearman and wife Linda of Oak Island, TX, William Downs of Oak Island, TX and Jimmy Downs of Florence, CO.

She is also survived by 13 Grandchildren and 18 Great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Nichols

Mary Wells Nichols, 95, of Tarkington Prairie, died Friday, June 20, 2003, at the Liberty Healthcare Center in Liberty.

Memorial graveside services will be held at a later date, at the Wells Family cemetery in Cleveland. Services are under the direction of Sterling Funeral Home in Dayton.

Mary was born June 18, 1908 in Cleveland to parents; William A. and Mary Squire Wells, a former resident of Galena Park and New Jersey, and has resided in the Tarkington Prairie area for several years. She was a graduate of the Tarkington Prairie High School class of 1925, homemaker, member of Central Baptist Church, former volunteer for the American Heart Association, and also played the Hawaiian steel guitar for a radio show in Houston in the 30’s. She also enjoyed painting and writing poetry.

Mrs. Nichols was preceded in death by her parents, husband: Paul B. Nichols, and nine brothers and sisters. She is survived by her daughter: Mary L. Huhn of Tarkington Prairie, granddaughter: Donyale Sykes of Houston, and numerous other relatives and friends.

Rhodes

Charlotte Faye Rhodes, 53, of Thicket, passed away in a Beaumont, TX Hospital on Tuesday.

Visitation will be held from 5pm-9 p.m. on Wednesday at the Center Baptist Church in Thicket. Funeral Services will be held at 3pm on Thursday at Center Baptist Church in Thicket. Pastor Alvin Tomlinson will officiate. Interment will follow at Concord cemetery in Rye. Services are under the direction of Sterling Funeral Home in Dayton.

Charlotte was born on July 18, 1949 in Dayton to parents Alton M. Jones and Doris Faye Votaw. She had lived as a homemaker in Thicket for the last 28 years. She was a member of Center Baptist Church in Thicket. In her free time she enjoyed camping and reading, however, being a full time grandmother kept her busy most of the time.

Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents and her son Alton David Rhodes. She is survived by her loving husband I.D. Rhodes of Thicket, son Charles Rhodes and his wife Donna Sue of Conroe, daughters Pamela Patterson of Thicket and Donna Patterson and her husband Wayne of Thicket, brother Lawrence Jones and wife Martha of Eastgate, Texas, daughter-in-Law Elizabeth West Rhodes of Hull, and her grandchildren Brandon, Richard and Lydia Rhodes, Garrett, Wyatt, Morgan and Desi Patterson, Joshua, Mason and Gary Lynn Patterson, Garrett Fant and Malloreigh Rhodes. She is also survived by numerous nieces nephews other relatives and friends.

Porter

Earnest V. Porter, 83, of Cleveland, died Wednesday, June 18, 2003 at home after a lengthy illness.

He was born in Winfree, Texas and was a long time resident of Winfree, Mt. Belvieu, and Centerville. He had lived the last 18 years in Cleveland and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Mt. Belvieu. He served during World War II in the United States Army.

Services for Mr. Porter will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 21, 2003 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel in Dayton with Rev. Doug Williams and Rev. Jake Porter officiating. Interment will follow at Magnolia Park cemetery, Dayton.

He is survived by his wife Hazel Porter of Cleveland; Brothers: Earl Porter and wife Marion of Mt. Belvieu and Earcel Porter of Mt. Belvieu; Sister: Erma Adam and husband Terry of Cypress; Brother-in-law: Abbie Lee Green of Dayton.

Visitation will be 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Friday evening at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home, Dayton.

Jones

Leonia P. Jones, 89, of Dayton, died Wednesday, June 18, 2003, at the Crockett Care Center in Crockett.

Graveside services will be held at 1 Pm, Friday, June 20, 2003 at the Greenville cemetery in Kenefick with Rev. Wayne Hardin officiating. Visitation will be held from 10 Am to Noon, Friday at the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Sterling Funeral Home in Dayton.

Leonia was born May 16, 1914 in Rocky Hill, to parents; Jesse and Minnie Jones, a resident of Dayton for 51 years and has resided in the Crockett area for the past three years. She was a graduate of the Rocky Hill High School, attended Angelina Co. College and obtained her teacher's certificate, homemaker, member of the First Baptist Church, and enjoyed flower gardening and reading.

Mrs. Jones was preceded in death by her parents, husband: Albert A. Jones, sons: Larry w. Jones, Jessie B. Jones, and Willie Don Jones, Daughter-in-law: Minga Jones, and son-in-law: Joe Knight. She is survived by her daughters: Mini Worley of Dayton, sue Knight of Crockett, and Dee Canon and husband Eugene of Montgomery, sons: George Jones and wife Linda of Dayton and Roy Jones of Cuero, 20 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, and numerous friends.

Campbell

Christian Malachi "Ky-Ky" Campbell, 3, of Moss Hill, passed away Monday, June 16, 2003 at Hermann Hospital in Houston.

Little Malachi was the son of Michael and Julie Campbell of Moss Hill.

He is survived by his parents; brother: Micah Alexander Campbell of Moss Hill; sister: Makala Annette Campbell of Moss Hill; grandparents: Bobby and Connie Potter of Moss Hill; C.W. "Bill" and Teresa Campbell of Batson; great-grandparents: Loyd and Audrey Damrell of Moss Hill, Winiford and Wanda Cook Silsbee, Beulah Campbell of Beaumont and Martha Potter of Romayor; Uncles and Aunts: Shawn and Lisa Shoemake of Moss Hill, Crystal and Brandon Barnhart of Lumberton, Barbara and Doug Hughes of Batson;

Services will be 4:00 p.m., Thursday, June 19, 2003 at The New Life Assembly of God Church in Batson. Burial will follow at the Damrell Family cemetery under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home, Dayton.

Visitation will be 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., Wednesday, at The New Life Assembly of God in Batson.
