Kopecky

Robert Gene “Bob” Kopecky, 56, of Dayton, passed away Saturday November 9, 2002 at a Houston, TX hospital. A wake service will be held at 5pm Friday at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Dayton. A Memorial Mass will be held at 1pm Saturday at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Dayton. Services are under the direction of Sterling Funeral Home in Dayton.

Bob was born on November 24, 2002 in Mercedes, Texas to parents Joseph M. Kopecky and Elizabeth Ann Plessel. He served in the Air Force during Viet Nam where he worked on F-4 an F-5 fighter jets. He was a longtime resident of Dayton where he worked for Hughes-Christensen as an Electronics Technologist. He was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Dayton. He enjoyed reading Tom Clancey novels and fishing. He was also an accomplished woodworker who loved making different types of furniture.

He was preceded in death by his father and his son Shawn Curtis Kopecky. He is survived by his loving wife Linda B. Kopecky of Dayton, mother Elizabeth Ann Kopecky of Weslaco, son George Kopecky and wife Sherry of Cleveland, TX, daughter Elizabeth Moore and husband Toby of Splendora, TX, brothers Joseph Kopecky of San Antonio, TX, George Kopecky of Terrell, TX, Richard Kopecky of Dayton, TX, Paul Kopecky of Dayton, TX and Thomas Kopecky of Weslaco, TX, and three grandsons Clayton Vicars, Austin Vicars and Sean Moore. He is also survived by many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Baker

J. F. "Jack" Baker, 56, of Dayton, died Sunday, November 10, 2002 at home after a lengthy illness.

He was a native of El Campo and had lived the past 23 years in the Dayton Area. He was a member of the Baptist Church and the Dayton Masonic Lodge #825. Jack was also a former Liberty County Sheriff's Deputy and had worked as a heavy equipment operator.

Services will be 10:00 AM, Wednesday, November 13, 2002 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bill Bross officiating. Interment will follow at Ryan cemetery in Tarkington.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Felton and Dessie Martin Baker and sister: Eva Jean Baker.

He was survived by his wife of 32 years, Debbie Eddleman Baker of Dayton; Mother and Father-in-law, Joe and Dorothy Eddleman of Baytown; Daughters: Jackie Lea Baker of Liberty; Dessie Marie Hebert and husband Doug of Cannon AFB, N.M.; and Lisa Ann Irwin and husband Tim of Baytown; Brother: Bluford Irvin Baker and wife Earline of Baytown; Sisters: Mickey Duke and husband Ronnie of Baytown and Marie Robins and husband Gary of Blanchard. Four Grandchildren, Elisabeth, Rachel, Brianna and Lauren. Also numerous nieces and nephews.

Cooper

Fairly Lee Cooper, 79, of Humble, died Sunday, November 10, 2002 at her daughter's home after a lengthy illness.

A native of Crockett, she had lived al of her life in South East Texas. Services for Mrs. Cooper will be 3:00 PM, Tuesday, November 12, 2002 at Pace Stanicl Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ellis Marcus officiating.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Earl Cooper and daughter, Fannie Viola Cooper.

She is survived by her sons: Edward Leon Cooper and wife Patricia of Liberty; Samuel Lloyd Cooper and wife Joy Jean of Crosby; Arthur Glen Cooper and Kathy Lynn of Channelview; Dennis D. Cooper and wife Pam of Mexia; Billy Wwayne Cooper and wife Danele of Channelview; Terry Lynn Cooper and wife Janice of Houston; Gerald Franklin Cooper of Channelview; Raymond Keith Cooper of Channeliew; Daughters: Ruby Edward and Husband Billy of Humble and Carolyn Marie Saintes and husband Bernie of Livingston; Sisters: Pearl Tims of Belot and May Ashley of Huffman; Brothers: Earl Blackmon of Clover Leaf and Samuel Blackmon of Patton Village. 34 Grandchildren and 36 Great-Grandchildren.

Visitation will begin Tuesday morning at 10:00 AM and continue until 3:00 PM service time. A service will also be held at Starr Funeral Home in Hemphill, 2:00 PM, Wednesday. Burial will follow at Bronson cemetery in Bronson, Texas.

Carroll

Ann Carroll, 76, of Liberty, passed away in Longview on Wednesday, November 6, 2002 after a courageous fight with cancer.

Services will be held at 2:00 Pm, Saturday, November 9, 2002 at the Bethel Assembly of God in Liberty, with Bro. Harvey Drake and Bro. Darrell Brown officiating and interment following at Fairlawn Memorial Park in Liberty, Texas. Visitation will be held from 5 Pm to 9 Pm, Friday, at the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Sterling Funeral Home in Dayton.

Ann was born September 1, 1926 in Douglas Wyoming, to parents; Ira Eatherton and Lucy Rodgers Eatherton and has resided in the Liberty area for many years. She was a member of Bethel Assembly of God in Liberty and also a member of Wesley-McCabe United Methodist Church in Longview. She was an inspiration to her family and a joy to everyone who knew her and will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Mrs. Carroll was preceded in death by her parents, husband: A. B. Carroll, sisters: Ila Mae Horton, Gene Kelly, Dorothy Ripkowski, and Nelleye Eatherton, and brothers: Ben Eatherton, Bobby Eatherton, and Neil Eatherton. She is survived by her daughter and her husband, Rev. Carl and Pam Lundberg of Longview, her son and his wife; John and Merit Viles of Cleveland and son: Larry Carroll of Victoria, daughter: Mary Ann Carroll, brother and sister-in-law, Garland and Katie Horton of Huffman, eight grandchildren, Melissa and Chris Ausburn, Shawn and Connie Ramsey, Jennifer and Neil Greer, Ryan Viles, and Evan Viles; and five great grandchildren Brittany Denais, Dakota Denais, Cassie Ramsey, Dustin Ramsey, and Coby Ramsey; numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

Heartfelt thanks go to Hospice of Longview, Dr. Lewis Duncan and Dr. Rick Earnest for their loving care of our mother.

Kathan

Keith Kathan, 71, of Anahuac, died Tuesday, November 5, 2002, at his residence.

Funeral services will be held at 2 Pm, Friday, November 8, 2002, at the First United Methodist Church in Anahuac with Rev. Wayne Hargraves and Mr. Bobby Scherer officiating and burial following at Anahuac cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 Pm to 9 Pm, Thursday, at the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Sterling Funeral Home in Anahuac.

Keith was born July 2, 1931 in Galveston to parents; Kenneth Kathan and Anna Mae Reynolds Kathan, a former resident of Winnie and Dallas, and has resided in the Anahuac area for the past 25 years. He was a graduate of the North Dallas High School class of 1947, Southern Methodist University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Journalism in 1956 and was Editor of the Park Cities-North Dallas News during his studies.

He began his journalism career after being honorably discharged from the US Air Force as a correspondent for United Press in New Orleans, was a reporter for the Dallas Times Herald covering the Dallas County court system and the Dallas Police department, a Film Editor/Writer for Channel 5 'Texas News' in Ft. Worth [the first 7-night a week news program in Southeast Texas], he spent several years in Washington D.C. as an editor for the Life Line Foundation, then came to the Anahuac area and was employed by Thornton Marine Service and also worked as a wire editor for the Beaumont Enterprise, and in 1985 was hired as the Editor for the Anahuac Progress. He served his community as President of Crime Stoppers, the Optimist Club, and the Computer Club, was Publicity chairman of the new Chambers County Emergency Medical System, and served as an Election Judge. He also starred as Fagin in the chambers County Players production of Oliver, and enjoyed fishing, playing golf, reading, and writing poetry.

Mr. Kathan was preceded in death by his parents: Kenneth Kathan and Anna Mae Thornton. He is survived by his wife of 54 years: Sarah McBryde Kathan of Anahuac, son: Kenneth Kathan of Houston, brother: Andy Thornton of Winnie, sister: Marilyn Adams of Beaumont, sister-in-law: Mary Margaret Moore and husband Don of Argyle, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Tousha

Tommy Gene Tousha, 61, of Hull, died November 4, 2002 in Beaumont after a lengthy illness.

A native of Monroe City, Texas and a long time resident of the Hull area, He had worked as a crane operator. He was affiliated with the Pentecostal Tabernacle in Liberty.

Services for Mr. Tousha will be 3:00 PM, Thursday, November 7, 2002 at the Pentecostal Tabernacle with Bro. J. O. Hendricks officiating. Burial will follow at Guedry cemetery in Batson under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home, Dayton, TX.

He was preceded in death by son, Johnny Tousha and brother, Frank Tousha. He is survived by his wife Doris Tousha of Hull; Sons: Tommy Earl Tousha and wife Renee of Liberty, Shaun Tousha and wife Jodie of Hull; Step-son: Andy Anderson of Port Arthur; Daughters: Becky Edwards and husband David of Dayton and Step-daughter: Kristina Kendirck and husband Donovan of Nederland; Brothers: Jack Smalley and wife Ima of Hull, Chester O. Tousha, Sr. and wife Doris of Batson and Harold Edward Tousha of Dayton.

Visitation will be at 4:00 PM, Wednesday at the Pentecostal Tabernacle Church in Liberty.

Syphrett

Pauline Hughett Syphrett, 92, died August 1, 2002 in Beaumont, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donley and survived by daughters Donna Price and husband Paul of Beaumont, Linda Wood of Nashville and grandson Paul Price III of Houston.

She was born in LaVita, Texas on October 30, 1909 and was the first graduation class of Texas Tech University in 1929 and remained a staunch supporter all of her life. After moving to Liberty, Texas in 1948 she became active in her community, church and school system. She taught school for 26 years. She was a lifetime member of the Liberty Women’s Trivium Club, the W.S.C.S., The Faith Class of Liberty United Methodist Church and The Liberty Garden Club, serving on the various boards in many capacities. She was a volunteer for many organizations including P.T.A., Friends of the Library and American Association of University Women. After moving to Beaumont in 1996 she remained a loyal member and listener to the Methodist Ministries of Liberty. Although in later life poor sight and hearing limited her physical participation, her enthusiasms were widespread and she faithfully followed the exploits of her beloved Red Raiders, The Houston Astros & Rockets and The Dallas Cowboys.

Family and Friends are asked to meet at the Funeral Home at 2:00 PM, graveside services will be held in Liberty, Texas on Sunday, August 8, 2002 at Fairlawn cemetery, FM 563 Liberty, Texas. In lieu of Flowers, memorial gifts may be sent to Friends of The Library, 1710 Sam Houston Street, Liberty, Texas 77575. The American Heart Association or a charity of one’s choice

Arrangements are under the direction of Allison Funeral Service, 1101 North Travis, Liberty, TX 77575.

Jeffrey

John Barrett Jeffrey, 35, of Liberty, died Wednesday, July 31, 2002 in Devers.

Funeral service will be held at 10am, Friday, August 2, 2002 at First Baptist Church Liberty with Rev. Jerry Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn cemetery in Beaumont. Visitation will be from 5pm until 9 p.m. on Thursday at Allison Funeral Service.

John was a life long resident of Liberty. He was a rice farmer and a member of First Baptist Church of Liberty, Magnolia Ridge Country Club, American Rice Growers Co-Op Assn., Sons of the American Revolution, Ducks Unlimited and served on the board of directors for Southeast Texas Agricultural District and the Texas Rice Producers. He enjoyed hunting, golf, and he worked and played outdoors.

He is preceded in death by his father Barry Neil Jeffrey; grandparents Mr. & Mrs. C.B. Jeffrey. He is survived by his wife Kristal Rose Jeffrey; daughter Georgia Jeffrey both of Liberty; step-daughter Lacey Hancock of Jasper; mother Joan Jeffrey of Liberty; sister Julia Rathgeber of Austin; grandmother Mrs. J.W. Green Timpson.

Pallbearers will be Mark Stoesser, Stevie Devillier, Grayson Pipkin, Jeff Johnson, Trevor Neale, Culley Devillier, Richie Devillier, and Chris Hacker. Honorary pallbearers will be Billy Devillier, Ron Chess, Ford Frost, Ross Rathgeber, and Edward B. Pickett. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 602 Main St, Liberty, TX 77575.

Eddlemon

Patsy Clarice Eddlemon, 63, of Tarkington Prairie, Texas, died Monday, July 29, 2002 at the Kingwood Medical Center in Kingwood.

A native of Macedonia, she had lived in the Liberty County area her entire life. She is a member of the Joy Fellowship Church in Tarkington Prairie and was a retired custodian for the Tarkington Independent School District.

Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, August 2, 2002 at the Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel in Dayton with the Rev. Malcolm Land officiating. Burial will follow at the Ryan cemetery in Tarkington Prairie.

She is survived by here Husband: Thurman Eddlemon of Tarkington Prairie; Brother: Joe Smith and his wife Faye of Dayton; Sisters: Pearl Vandver of Jacinto City, Gladys Franklin of Macedonia, Amy Crippens and her husband Lloyd of Jacinto City, Charlene Gregory of Dayton and Norma Hicks and her husband Gene of Crosby; 17 Nieces and Nephews, 27 Great-Nieces and Great-Nephews and 7 Great-Great Nieces and Great-Great-Nephews.

The family will receive friends both Wednesday and Thursday evenings from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.

Cain

Mason John Cain, age 99, of Moss Hill, died Tuesday, July 30, 2002, at the Cleveland Regional Medical Center in Cleveland.

He was a native and lifelong resident of the Polk and Liberty counties area. He was a former grocery store owner0perator and was a member of the New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, where he was a deacon for the last 70 years. He was also a lifetime member of the Arizona Creek Wildlife Association, member of the Masonic Lodge of Warren, a past deputy game warden, a logger and a cattle rancher. He was the son of the late Maxie Cain and the late Dora (Gay) Cain.

He is survived by his Daughters: Alline (Cain) Kyle & husband bill of Vidor and Kathleen (Cain) Harris & husband Carroll of Fort Worth; Sons: Garthel Cain and wife Pauline of Broaddus, Norman Cain & wife Margie of Moss Hill, Bowen Cain of Moss Hill and Donald Cain & wife Linda of Lumberton; Sisters: Henrietta Burris of Moss Hill and Edna McCormick of Hardin; Brother: Forman Cain & wife Cassie of Deer Park; Daughter-in-law Shirley Barnhart of LaPorte; 23 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his Parents; Wife: Pearl Geneva (Kervin) Cain; Son: Arvil Cain and Grandsons: Larry Cain, Mickey Cain and Rickey Cain.

Arrangements are being handled by Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton, where the family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 9:30 PM Wednesday, July 31, 2002. Funeral services will be at the Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel in Dayton at 10:00 AM Thursday, August 1, 2002 with the Rev. Gene Gardner officiating. Interment will follow at the Holly Grove cemetery in Holly Grove with Masonic graveside services.
