Davis

Services for Dora Lee "Patsy" Burleson Davis, of Dayton, will be at 10:00 AM, Saturday, May 18, 2002 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Randy Piatt officiating. Interment will follow at Magnolia Park cemetery.

Dora Lee "Patsy" Burleson Davis attended school in Dayton and was associated with the Baptist Church. She was one of Dayton’s earliest successful businesswomen and co-founder of several businesses. Dayton Auto Parts, P & B Salvage, and owner of several commercial shrimping boats. "Aunt Patsy" was not only an astute businesswoman; she was also an avid fisher woman and deer hunter.

The two loves of her life were C. W. "Bill" Burleson whom she married January 19, 1944, and who died September 7, 1969 and E. Milton Davis whom she married December 26, 1970, and who passed away January 23, 1944. She was a very lucky lade how had two husbands that absolutely adored and cherished her. The rest of her family consisted of her eight nephews and nieces who she claimed as her own children and several stepchildren. She was also devoted to her two cats, Baby and Peanut.

She was preceded in death by her parents – James Henry and Alice Maudine Mosley: brothers – Codie, Buddy, Lollis, Chester, Arvil, and sisters – Odell, MaeBell, and Irene. Also one nephew, John H. Stephens. She is survived by nieces and their spouses, Gladys M. "Lynn" Wirick and Dora Mae Green; nephews and their spouses, Chester M. Anderson, Edward D. Anderson, H. Lloyd Stephens, Vernon A. Stephens, Sr., Steve E. Stephens and several great and great-great Nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Friday evening from 6:00 PM until 9:30 PM at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home, Dayton, Texas.

Acker

Claudine Hale Acker, 85, of Liberty, died peacefully at her residence on Tuesday, May 14, 2002.

Her services are planned for Thursday, May 16, 2002 at Allison Funeral Service Chapel. Burial will follow in Village Mills, Texas. Visitation will be from 5 PM until 9 PM on Wednesday, May 15, 2002 at Allison Funeral Service with Jerry Johnson Officiating.

She is survived by one granddaughter Regan Centono of Austin, TX and by close friends Paul Baillio and Bo Harrison both of Liberty, TX. Mrs. Acker is preceded in death by her parents and by her husband H. L. Acker and by one son Clifford Acker.

Jannise

Julian James Jannise, Sr., age 73, of Crosby, died Sunday, May 12, 2002, at Golden Charm Nursing Home in Liberty.

He was a native and longtime resident of Liberty, a Life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Nolan Pickett Post 5621 in Liberty and was a U. S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was also a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Liberty and was a retired Truck Driver. He was the son of the late Thoebert Jannise and the late Evalina (Blanchard) Jannise.

He is survived by Four Daughters: Laura (Jannise) Morris of Crosby, Barbara (Jannise) Owens of Crosby, Brenda Jannise of Liberty and Mary (Jannise) Williams of North Carolina; Two sons: Julian "Cisco" Jannise, Jr. of Liberty and Toby Jannise of Liberty; Two Brothers: Pete Jannise of Highlands and Dennis Jannise of Port Arthur; Eleven grandchildren and Three great-grandchildren.

Arrangements are being handled by the Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton, where the family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until 9:30 PM Tuesday, May 14, 2002. Funeral service will be at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel at 10:00 AM Wednesday, May 15, 2002 with Father Danny Parcon officiating.

Franklin

Carol Gwendolyn (Clark) Franklin; age 56, of Liberty, died Thursday, May 9, 2002, at her residence in Liberty.

She was a member of the Pentecostal Faith and had lived in Liberty most of her life. She was the daughter of the late Earl Clark and the late Jessie Hales Clark.

She is survived by: Daughter: Kelly Denice Barsley of Liberty; Three Sisters: Martha Tanton of Liberty, Freddie Tanton of Liberty and Shirley Barker of Azle, Texas; Cousins: Bernice Groda of Willis, Nadine Dunigan of Liberty and Patsy Lockett of Willis; Special Friend: Ronnie Jenkins and numerous nieces and Nephews.

Arrangements are being handled by Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton where the family will receive friends Friday afternoon May 10, 2002. A graveside service will be at Linney cemetery at 2:00 PM Saturday, May 11, 2002 with Rev. Harold Davis officiating.

Carter

Bennie E. Carter, 48, of Anahuac, died Wednesday, May 8, 2002, at his residence.

Funeral services will be held at 2 Pm, Friday, May 10, 2002, at the Assembly of God Church in Anahuac with Rev. Harvey Drake and Rev. J.C. Durham officiating and burial following at Anahuac cemetery in Anahuac. Visitation will be held from 5 Pm to 9 Pm, Thursday at the funeral home.

Bennie was born April 11, 1954 in Baytown to parents; J.C. Carter and Mildred 'Christine' Hatfield Carter, and has resided in the Jasper and Anahuac areas throughout his life. He was a Welder for KIVA Construction and previously Brown and Root in Oak Island. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, and will be remembered as a giving and helpful person.

Mr. Carter was preceded in death by his father: J. C. Carter, Sr. and great-niece: Shashonie Dunman. He is survived by his wife: Yvonne Carter of Anahuac, daughters: LaDonna Beck and husband Jimmy of Anahuac, Michelle Carter of Anahuac, Beverly McDaniel and husband T-Don of Anahuac, Jinifer Morelock and husband Bryan of Anahuac, Jennifer Malone and husband D.J. of Channelview, and Stephanie Karr of Anahuac, son: Ben Carter of Arkansas, four grandsons: Sean and Nolan Estes and James and Logan McDaniel, mother: Christine Carter of Jasper, sisters: Dian Duhon and husband Raymond of Anahuac and Brenda Carter and husband Wendell of Jasper, brother: J.C. Carter, Jr. and wife Judy of Kirbyville, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

In lieu of usual floral remembrances the family requests that donations be made to the Assembly of God Church at 1100 Oak St.; Anahuac, Texas 77514.

Woods

Wanda Sandifer Woods, 64, of Liberty, died Saturday, May 5, 2002 at her residence in Liberty.

Services will be held at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, May 8, 2002 at the Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel in Dayton with Father Danny Parcon officiating. Burial will follow at the Fairlawn cemetery in Liberty.

She is preceded in death by her sister: Geraldine Alston. She is survived by her husband: Buddy Woods of Liberty; Son: Donald Rawson of Port Arthur: Daughters: Debbie Keaton and her husband Ike, Lori Rees and her husband James and Heidi Woods all of Liberty: 12 Grandchildren and 7 Great-Grandchildren. Pallbearers will be James Rees, Mike Alston, James Helstom, Jr., Bobby Kuykendall, Jim Sisco and Ernest Rives.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday May 7, 2002 from 5:00 PM until 9:30 PM at the Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.

Williams

James Jerome "J.J." Williams, 59, of Madisonville, died May 4, 2002 at home after an extended illness.

He was born in Dayton, where he was a long time resident before moving to Madisonville, where he had lived for the past few years.

Services for Mr. Williams will be at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, May 8, 2002 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel in Dayton, with Rev. Charles Pierce officiating. Interment will follow at Magnolia cemetery in Dayton. He was preceded in death by his parent, James Elbert and Ellene Williams. Mr. Williams is survived by his wife Bonnie Williams of Madisonville; Two sons: Darrell Williams of Dayton and Don Williams of Nashville, Tennessee: One Grandchild: Bryce Williams of Dayton; Brother: Cecil Williams of Dayton; Five Sisters: Rickie Beard of Dayton; Mary Landrum of Dayton: Ada Mire of Houston: Bonnie Byerley of Cade, Louisiana; Angelia Williams of Emory. Pallbearers are Lynn Frances, Claude Chapman, David Hornsby, Jim Williams, C. D. Williams, and Arron Landrum.

Visitation will be Tuesday evening, 6:00 PM until 9:30 PM at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.

Sparks

Vernice John Sparks, 81, of Dayton, died Saturday, May 4, 2002 in Houston. A native of Bearden, Arkansas, Mr. Sparks had been a long time resident of Dayton. He had served during WWII in the US Army. He was the former owner and operator of the Dayton Muffler Shop.

Services will be at 3:00 PM, Monday, May 6, 2002 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel in Dayton with Rev. Kelly Brumaster officiating. Interment will follow at Magnolia Park cemetery in Dayton. Mr. Sparks was preceded in death by his parents Dave and Ada Sparks; three children, Judy, Hervy and Baby Sparks; also brothers: Teddy and Herbert Sparks and sisters: Rachael and Odesa Sparks.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Annie Auteen Sparks of Dayton; Daughters: Jane James and husband Bill of Kenalia, Texas, Redia Clovia Butcher and husband Henry of Dayton, Brenda Kay Burmaster and husband Kyle of Hardin, and Cathy Elaine Grant of Dayton; Son: Richard Lynn Sparks and wife Kay of Dayton. Twelve Grandchildren, Sandra, Marci, Billy, John, Wendy, Keith, Krystal, Michael, Roy, Amanda, Ryan and Daniel.

One Step Grandchild, Eleven Great-Grandchildren and Four Step-Great-Grandchildren. Brothers: Hershel Sparks and wife Minnie Arnold of Mont Clair, California and Calavin Sarks and wife Bessie of Sparkman, Arkansas: Sisters: Vernia Reed and Husband Sydney of Arkansas: Geraldine Wolfe and husband James Arthur of Springhill, Louisiana. Visitation will begin Sunday at 4:00 PM at Pace Stancil Funeral Home, Dayton.

Nash

Norma Lurline Nash, 76, of League City died Saturday, May 4, 2002.

A native of Boling, Texas, she had been a resident of Dayton since 1963.

She was preceded in death by her husband Abe in 2001. Mrs. Nash’s service will be 1:00 PM, Tuesday, May 7, 2002 at the Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel with the graveside service to follow at 3:00 PM at Rosewood cemetery in Humble.

She is survived by her two sons: Michael Nash and wife Sandra of League City and Donald Nash and wife Diana of Crosby; Twelve Grandchildren and Six Great-grandchildren. Visitation will begin Sunday at 6:00 PM at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.

Rice

Larry D. Rice, 52, died Thursday, May 2, 2002 at home in Tarkington.

A native of Tipton, Oklahma he had lived the past 24 years in Tarkington Prairie. He had served in the U. S. Army and was employed by Brown and Root for the past 20 years. Graveside services will be at 2:00 PM, Sunday, May 5, 2002 at Ryan cemetery with Rev. Gene Walker officiating. Services are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home, Dayton, Texas.

Mr. Rice is survived by his wife Judy Rice of Tarkington; Son: Shane Rice and wife Neely of Anahuac; Daughter: Deniece Porter and husband Jason of Tarkington: Brothers: David Rice of Dallas; Tommy Rice of Little Rock, Arkansas: and Kevin Rice of Searcy, Arkansas; Sisters: Juanda Williams of LaGrange and Jerry Rice of Dallas: Also seven Grandchldren.

Visitation was held Saturday evening at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.

Walls

Carolyn Jo Walls, 55, of Tyler, died Thursday, May 2, 2002 at the Hospice Homeplace Center in Tyler.

She was a native and longtime resident of Liberty and had resided in Tyler for the past seven years. Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, May 6, 2002 at the Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel in Dayton with the Rev. James Walls officiating. Burial will follow at Palms Memorial Park cemetery in Dayton.

She is survived by her Son: Roy Walls, Jr. and his wife Mary of Tyler; Daughter: Tracy Snider and her husband James of Tyler; Brothers: Tommy LaFrance of Austin, Buddy LaFrance and his wife Peggy of Liberty, Rusty LaFrance of Austin, George LaFrance and Pete LaFrance both of Liberty; Sisters: Hazel Snider and her husband Donald, Gladys Duff and her husband Terry and Samantha Stuckey and her husband Bubba all of Liberty. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 9:30 PM Saturday, May 4, 2002 and from 9:00 AM until 9:30 PM, Sunday, May 5, 2002 at the Pace Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.
