James Howard “Jimmy” Reily, 39, of Daisetta, died Saturday, July 21, 2001 in Liberty, Texas.Visitation will be Monday, July 23, 2001 from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM at the funeral home. Services & Interment will be private.

Jimmy was a native of Gallipolis, Ohio and had moved to Daisetta, from Crown City Ohio in 1986. He was an Electrician. He enjoyed hunting & fishing.

Jimmy is survived by his wife: Rhonda Reily; Daughters: Jamie Reily and Katelyn Reily; Parents: James & Sandra Reily of; Sister: Deborah Reily; Grandmother: Rose Reily; Nephews: Christopher Reily & Zeran Neal; Niece: Summer Neal; Brother-In-Law: Jack Neal Numerous Aunts, Uncles & Cousins and other relatives and friends.

Services are under the direction of Allison Funeral Service, 1101 N. Travis, Liberty, TX 77575.

Gardner

Rennie V. Gardner, 98, of Liberty, Texas died Sunday, July 22, 2001 at Golden Charm Nursing Home in Liberty.

Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM at Allison Funeral Service in Liberty, Wednesday, July 25, 2001 with Rev. Mark Payne officiating. Burial will follow at Gardner cemetery in Warren, TX. Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 24, 2001 at Allison Funeral Service from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM.

A native of Rosedale, Texas she had lived in Liberty many years. She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Gardner is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and other friends.Services are under the direction of Allison Funeral Service, 1101 N. Travis, Liberty, TX 77575.

Jenson

Eugene Truman Jenson, 79, of Anahuac, died Sunday, July 22, 2001, at the Baycoast Medical Center in Baytown. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM, Wednesday, July 25, 2001, at the First United Methodist Church in Anahuac with Rev. Wayne Hargraves officiating and burial following at Anahuac cemetery in Anahuac. Visitation will be held from 5 PM to 9 PM, Tuesday at the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Sterling Funeral Home in Anahuac.

Eugene was born September 12, 1921 in Fairy, TX. to parents; J. Justin Jenson and Helen Rohne Jenson, a former resident of Winnie, Crosby and Barbers Hill, he has resided in the Anahuac area since the late 1940's. He was a retired Attorney for Chambers County after serving for 34 years, a veteran of the US Navy with service during WW II, graduate of the Barbers High School class of 1939 and attended the University of Houston, Lee College and the South Texas School of Law, member of the First United Methodist Church of Anahuac, American Legion, Lions Club and the Texas State Bar Association. He enjoyed reading, travel, helping others, and also was a steer wrestler in his younger years.

Mr. Jenson was preceded in death by his parents, wife: Dorothy Jenson, and brother: Myron Jenson. Survivor include his sister: Junelle Jenson Kubik and husband William of Baytown, sister-in-law: Jackie Jenson of Baytown, special friend and caretaker: Linda Smith of Anahuac, and numerous other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In Lieu of usual floral arrangements the family requests that donations be made to the First United Methodist Church of Anahuac or a charity of one's choice.

Mitchell

Services for Mrs. Flora Lee Mitchell, 78 of Dayton will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, July 26, 2001 at the Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton with Rev. Charles Pierce officiating. Interment will follow at Linney cemetery. Pallbearers are Richard Burge, Sonny Faulk, Jim McGahey, Glen David Hale, Frenchie Pare, Calvin Westscott and Lester Ray Wisegerber. Honorary pallbearers are the Dayton Pioneer Student Association.

Mrs. Mitchell died Saturday, July 21, 2001 after a lengthy illness. She was born January 10, 1923 to parents Glery (Bo) Wood and Rosa Lee Griffin Wood in Dayton. She was a long time resident of Dayton, a member of the Church of Christ, and the Dayton Pioneer Student Association. She was retired from the Telephone Company where she had worked as a business agent.

Preceded in death by her husband Edwin D. "Speedy" Mitchell, she is survived by her son Edwin D. Mitchell, II of Dayton: Brothers: Bo Wood of Houston, John Wood of Grangerland, and Clint Wood of Grangerland; Sisters: Ila Mae Threlkeld of Kingwood and Jimmie Stearns of Grangerland; Two Grandchildren; John D. Mitchell and Kathy F. Mahdoubi.

In lieu of flower donations, for those who desire, donations may be made to the Pioneer Scholarship Fund c/o Adeline Stevens, 607 South Main, Dayton, Texas 77535 or Linney cemetery Association, c/o Shirley Haidusek, P. O. Box 607, Devers, Texas 77538. Visitation will be 6:00 PM until 9:30 PM at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home.

Hicks

Louise Hicks, 71, of New Caney died Wednesday, July 18, 2001 at her residence. Mrs. Hicks was born in Batson, Texas and lived most of her life in Beaumont. She was fondly known by all as "Granny" and had worked as a nurse's aide. Her services will be 11:00 AM, Friday, July 20, 2001 at Pace-Stancil funeral Home in Dayton with the Rev. Ray Morris officiating. Burial will follow at Guedry cemetery in Batson.

She was preceded in death by her Parents: Ben Storey and Beatrice Fabriguze Storey, her Brothers: Riley, James and Roy Johnson, and her Daughter: Edna Louise Gibson: and two Grandchildren: Kimberly Michelle Thibodeaux and James D. LeJune.

She is survived by her man and best friend of 16 years: Arvis Wayne Diehl of New Caney; Sons: Ernest Ray Henson of Tulsa, OK, Edwin Lawrence Henson of Mineral Springs, AK; Daughters: Mary J. Brannon of Vidor and Janie Ruth Clark of New Caney: Brothers: Dwayne Johnson of Splendora, Dickey Johnson of Daisetta, and Johnny Johnson of Daisetta; Sisters: Dianne McCormick of Liberty and Corine Knight of Sea Drift; 12 Grandchildren and 22 Great-Grandchildren. Pallbearers are John E. Clark, Jr., Michael J. Barber, Perry Post, Pedro Guzman Ramos, Randy Fuselier, and Charles Herndon. Honorary Pallbearers are Ronnie Martin and Tommy Martin. Visitation for Mrs. Hicks will be Thursday, July 19, 2001, 8:00 AM until 9:30 PM at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home, Dayton, Texas.

VanDeventer

L. Q. (Bubba) VanDeventer, 76 of Liberty, Texas, died Monday July 9, 2001 at his residence. Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM, Thursday, July 12, 2001 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Liberty with Rev. Frank Paduch officiating. Interment will follow at Liberty Catholic cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 PM until 9 PM on Wednesday with a vigil service at 7:30 PM at Allison funeral Service in Liberty.

Mr. VanDeventer was a life long resident of Liberty. He was owner of VanDeventer Real Estate. (Bubba) was an Army Air Force veteran, member of Immaculate Conception Catholic church, Knights of Columbus charter Member, City of Liberty Tax Assessor & Collector, Asst. City Manager, City Manager, Liberty Lions Club Past President, Charger member of Magnolia Ridge Country Club, Past President of Liberty Chambers of Commerce, Secretary of Liberty-Dayton Chamber of Commerce, Director of Liberty of Liberty-Dayton Chambers of Commerce for 13 years, 1978 Liberty-Dayton Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year, Chairman of City Planning commission, President of Liberty Chamber of Industry & Commerce, and Manager of The Humphreys Foundation (a charitable corporation) for approx. 30 years.

He is preceded in death by his parent Lloyd "Bud" & Nita LaCour VanDeventer; brothers Jimmy & Charles VanDeventer; step-son Timothy P. Gaudet; step-grandson Sean Richard.

Survivors include his wife Venola M. VanDeventer; sons Gary VanDeventer & wife Melissa; Daniel VanDeventer & wife Gigi; step-son Robert Gaudet & wife Kathy; step-daughter Peggy Gaudet-Richard & husband Dennis; all of Liberty; brother Arthur VanDeventer & wife Mary of Mission, Texas; grandchildren Kim Drennan, Holly Tolleson, Jessica Richard, Amy Coulter, Allie & Adam VanDeventer, Morgan & Shelby VanDeventer; great grandchildren Hailey George, Valoree Coulter, Colemon Drennan, Megan Tolleson, Angel Richard. Numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Pallbearers will be Edward Pickett, J. D. Root, Marshall Crawford, Ronnie Jones, William "Bill" Warner, Charles Fisher, Haywood Cress, and Robert Davis. Honorary pallbearers will be Ben Picket, Arthur VanDeventer, Clifford Mire, Morris Mire, Richard OÕQuinn, Don Taylor and r. Reese Brown.

King

Joyce Merlene King, 66 of Liberty, Died Monday, July 9, 2001 at Golden Charm Nursing Home in Liberty.

Graveside services will be at 10 AM, Thursday at Cooke Memorial cemetery in Liberty with Dr. bill Newcomb Officiating. Visitation will be from 5 PM until 9 PM at Allison Funeral Service.

Mrs. King was a native of Hull and had moved back to Liberty in 1992 after living in Houston. She graduated from Liberty High School and was a homemaker. She was a member of the First Methodist Church in Liberty and various other clubs and organizations. She enjoyed reading and painting.

She is preceded in death by her parents Minor Lee, Sr. &Eula; Mae Baucham Wise; brother; M. L. Wise, Jr.

She is survived by her husband Phillip N. King, Sr. of Liberty: daughters Kelly smart of Liberty, Cindy King of Houston; son Phillip King, Jr. and wife Susan of Cypress; granddaughter Frances Jean-Marie Smart, grandson Nathan Smart, Jr.; aunt Odessa Owen of Liberty. Numerous nieces & nephews and other relatives.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Mettlen

Carolyn Ann Simpson Mettlen, 50, of Devers, passed away Saturday, July 7, 2001 at Liberty Dayton Hospital in Liberty.

Funeral services were held at 2 PM Tuesday, July 10, 2001 at Allison Funeral Service in Liberty.

Mrs. Mettlen was born July 20, 1950 in Pasadena, TX to her parents Sid and Louise Simpson. She graduated from Liberty High School in 1968. She had lived in the area for 33 years where she owned and operated Printed Impressions in Liberty with her husband Terry. She had served as a Director of the Liberty-Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce, served on many committees with the T.V.E. and had been a member of the Optimist Club. Carolyn was known as a real people person, who enjoyed shopping and computers, acted as a mother to everyone and enjoyed adopting and caring for different families around the holidays.

She was preceded in death by her father Sid Simpson.

She is survived by her husband Terry Mettlen, her mother Louise "Grandma" Simpson, of Hardin, and sisters Jean (Jo) Davis, of LaPorte, TX, Pattie (Eddie) Ray of Overton, TX, and Arlene (Larry) Hutson of Liberty. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be made to Bridgehaven Hospice or to the American Cancer Society.

Stephens

Harrel R. Stephens, 94, of Dayton, died Sunday, July 8, 2001 in Dayton. A native of Shepherd, Texas he had lived in the Dayton area for over 60 years and was a member of the Dayton Masonic Lodge A. F. & A. M. Services will be held at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, July 11, 2001 at the Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel in Dayton. Interment will follow at the Magnolia Park cemetery.

He is preceded in death by his Wife: Gladys Odell Stephens; son and Daughter-in-law: John Stephens and Norma Jean Stephens; Grandchildren: Darrel Stephens and Rodney Stephens; Great-grandchildren: Samuel and Bailey Wirick.

He is survived by his Sons: Lloyd Stephens and his wife Billie, Vernon Stephens and Steve Stephens and his wife Sandra all of Dayton; Daughter: Gladys Marie “Lynn” Wirick and her husband Hal of Dayton; 13 Grandchildren, 20 Great-Grandchildren and numerous Nieces and Nephews. Visitation will be held at 3:00 PM, Tuesday, July 10, 2001 at the Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.
