GILMER - Graveside services for Carson William Jones, 61, of Gilmer will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, March 14, at City cemetery with the Rev. J.C. Henderson officiating. Arrangements are by Grubbs-Loyd Funeral Home. Mr. Jones died Wednesday, March 11, 1998, at LSU Medical Center. He was born April 18, 1936, in Gilmer. He retired from the military and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1183, Gregg County Memorial Post. Mr. Jones was preceded in death by his father, William Frank Jones, and a brother, Douglas Ray Jones. He is survived by his mother, Hazel Jones of Gilmer; one son, Stephen William Jones of Dallas; one daughter, Cynthia Diana Lanther of Lewisville; one grandchild; a brother, Tex Dan Jones of Big Sandy; and a sister, Judy Maynard Sires of Sulphur Springs. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Dumond 'Mon' Mason
HUGHES SPRINGS - Services for DuMond "Mon" Mason, 19, of Daingerfield will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Daingerfield High School Auditorium with pastor L.E. Webster officiating. Burial will be in Whitmore cemetery. Arrangements are by Reeder-Davis Funeral Home. A wake will be held 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Mon, a member of Victory Temple Pentecostal Church, died Monday.

Viola Watts
GILMER - Services for Viola Watts, 86, of Gilmer will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Croley Funeral Home Chapel with Bill Blackstone officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park. Mrs. Watts, a homemaker and member of Pritchett Church of Christ, died Thursday. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Survivors include her daughters, Mary Jean Shepperd and Marianne Watts.

Mrs. O.L. (Beatrice) Young
Services for Mrs. O.L. (Beatrice) Young, 88, of Longview will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 14, 1998, at the Welch Funeral Home Chapel in Longview with the Rev. John R. Taylor and Dr. David A. Massey Sr. officiating. Graveside services will follow at 3:30 p.m. in the Vivian cemetery in Vivian, La. Mrs. Young died Thursday, March 12, 1998, in the Summer Meadows Nursing Home in Longview. She was born Aug. 14, 1909, in Calhoun, Ark. A former resident of Vivian, La., and Magnolia, Ark., she was a member of the First Baptist Church in Vivian, La. Mrs. Young was preceded in death by her husband, Lockey Young, and a daughter-in-law, Shirley Young, of Vivian, La., and three sisters and two brothers, all of Magnolia, Ark. Mrs. Young is survived by a son, Bill Young of Vivian, La.; two daughters and a son-in-law, Katherine and Reeder Bissell and Florine Conner, all of Longview; four grandchildren and their spouses, Craig and Lisa Conner, Beth and David Green, Marsha and Tommy Fotopoulos and Kristy Conner; three great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Tyler Green and Olivia Fotopoulos; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Dayton Baker of Magnolia, Ark.; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at 6 p.m. today, March 13, at Welch Funeral Home.

Harold Owens Barnes
MARSHALL - Services for Harold Owens Barnes, 72, of Hallsville will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the Travis Street Chapel of Sullivan Funeral Home. Graveside services with military honors will be held with Barksdale Air Force Base officiating and the Marshall Masonic Lodge 22 assisting. Mr. Barnes died Friday at his residence. He was born July 25, 1925, in Benoit, Miss.

Sheila 'Sam' Evans
Services for Sheila "Sam" Evans, 41, of Gladewater will be held in the Lakeview Funeral Home Chapel at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 14, with the Rev. John Harp officiating. The family received friends 7-9 p.m. Friday, March 13, at the funeral home. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, March 16, at Brookside Memorial Park in Houston under the direction of Lakeview Funeral Home. She passed away Wednesday, March 11, 1998, in Gilmer. Ms. Evans was born Nov. 28, 1956, in Houston. She was a member of the Baptist faith. She is survived by her mother, Cordie May Evans of Gilmer; companion, Margie Alvey of Gladewater; sister and brother-in-law, Glee and Glenn Saylor of Gilmer; brother and sister-in-law, Frederick and Christine Evans of Spring, Texas; a sister-in-law, Nancy Evans of Sealy, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, J.T. Maxwell Evans, and two brothers, Marcus Eugene Evans and Andy J. Evans.

Carmen Holland
Graveside services for Carmen Holland, 88, of Longview will be held at 11 a.m. today, March 14, in the Old Jacksonville City cemetery with Welch Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Holland died Monday, March 9, 1998. She had been a resident of Longview since 1947. Mrs. Holland was a Methodist. She had worked in sales at J.C. Penney and Perkins Bros. department stores. Mrs. Holland was preceded in death by her husband, Marshall Robert Holland Sr., in January 1990. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Marshall Robert Holland Jr. of Longview; grandchildren, William Holland of Tyler and Kathleen Holland of Denton; sister, Sadie Murray of Plymouth, Mich.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Oscar E. Kelly Sr.
HUGHES SPRINGS - Services for Oscar E. Kelly Sr., 78, of Desoto, formerly of Daingerfield, will be held at 10 a.m. today at Mt. Zion C.M.E. Church in Daingerfield with the Rev. C.D. Mitchell officiating. Burial at Springhill cemetery in Naples will be directed by Reeder-Davis Funeral Home. Mr. Kelly died Thursday. He was a former Lone Star Steel employee and a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Mary McCaghren
OVERTON - Services for Mary McCaghren, 97, of Overton are scheduled for 1 p.m. today, March 14, at the Cottle-Pearson Funeral Home Chapel in Overton with the Rev. Ray Eastridge and the Rev. George Helton officiating. Mrs. McCaghren died Wednesday, March 11, 1998, in an Overton nursing home. She was born Jan. 21, 1901, in Smith County to R.H. Williams and Etta Arnold Williams. She attended Arp schools. A resident of Overton since 1967, Mrs. McCaghren was a homemaker and a member of the Overton Missionary Baptist Church. Mrs. McCaghren was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas J. McCaghren, in 1987 and by a son and daughter-in-law, Emmett O. McCaghren and Iantha McCaghren, in 1989. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Betty McCaghren of Houston; a grandson, Michael McCaghren of Houston; a great-grandson, Laken McCaghren; very special friends, Herman and Ruby Yancy of Arp; and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Fred McCaghren, Johnny Wright, Roy Goodrum, Steve York, Kenneth Boren and Tyler Kirkpatrick. Honorary pallbearers will be Herman Yancy, Claude McAfee, Hugh Phinny, J.A. Ingram, Reuben McCaghren, Dr. James Hamilton, the Rev. George Helton, Bill Wall and Bob Martin. The family received friends at the funeral home 6:30-8:30 p.m. Friday, March 13.

Donald Herbert Miller
Memorial services for Donald H. "Smoke" Miller, 77, will be held at 3 p.m. Monday at the First Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Longview with the Rev. Mark Horner officiating. Cremation arrangements are by East Texas Funeral Home of Longview. Mr. Miller died Wednesday. He was born in Holstein, Iowa, and was retired from the U.S. Air Force and the U.S. Postal Service.

Alfred Jennings Parker
CARTHAGE - Services for the Rev. Alfred Jennings Parker, 80, of Carthage will be held at 2 p.m. today, March 14, at Don Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Earl Moore and the Rev. Carrol Brooks officiating. Interment will be in the Pine Hill Baptist cemetery in Rusk County. Arrangements are under the direction of Don Lipsey Funeral Home. Rev. Parker died Thursday, March 12, 1998, in Carthage. He was born in the Pine Hill community in Rusk County on March 22, 1917, the son of Charles Vinson and Elizabeth Louisa Otwell Parker. He served in the United States Army and the United States Air Force during World War II and the Korean War. When discharged, he was a technical sergeant with the Air Force. He moved from Gilmer to Panola County in 1967 and was a Baptist minister for more than 30 years. He had worked with the Texas Highway Department in Carthage and Henderson for over 15 years. He was a member of the Carthage Masonic Lodge and the Pine Hill Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite and York Rite Bodies, and the Sharon Temple Shrine of Tyler. The Rev. Parker was also a past chaplain and charter member of the Carthage chapter of Sons of Confederate Veterans, Carthage Noon Lions Club and Central Baptist Church in Carthage. Survivors include his wife, Nelwyn Brown Parker of Carthage; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Alan Dale Parker of Dallas and Mike and Karen Parker of Carthage; a brother, J.C. Parker of Nederland; three sisters, Winnie Davie Jeter of Tennessee, Adele McRae of Henderson and Ouida Stallings of Carthage; seven grandchildren, Paul Parker, Christopher Parker, Alana Parker, Matt Parker, Dan Parker, Jennifer Spradlin and Justin Spradlin; and two great-grandchildren, Stefan Parker and Ty Parker. Pallbearers will be Jimmy Parker, Donnie McRae, Doug Young, Jerry Stallings, Jimmy Ray Parker, Gene Parker and Michael Godfrey. The family received friends 5-7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. The family suggests that memorials may be sent to the Pine Hill Baptist cemetery Association, P.O. Box 1011, Carthage, TX 75633; to Shriners Hospital for Children, 3100 Samford Ave., Shreveport, LA 71103; to Panola County Historical and Genealogical Association, 213 N. Shelby St., Carthage, TX 75633; or to an organization of the donor's choice.

GILMER - Services for Ruth Strange, 83, of Gilmer will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at First Assembly of God in Gilmer with the Rev. Ronnie Shipman and the Rev. Bruce Wike officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill cemetery in Pittsburg, directed by Grubbs-Loyd Funeral Home. Visitation is 2-4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Mrs. Strange, a preacher, died Thursday.

HENDERSON - Services for Ethel G. Tate, 94, of Henderson will be held at 2 p.m. today at Crawford-A. Crim Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Maurcie Hill officiating. Burial will be in Crims Chapel cemetery. Mrs. Tate died Thursday at a local retirement home. The lifelong resident of Rusk County was born Dec. 6, 1903. She was a homemaker and a member of Trinity Baptist Church.

He was an aviation instructor during World War II and the former owner of East Texas Aviation Co. at Gregg County Airport.
