Charles Christian

Services for Charles Christian, 76, of Montalba, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Montalba Baptist Church with the Rev. Rod Skelton officiating. Burial will follow in Brushy Creek Cemetery under the direction of Bailey & Foster.
Mr. Christian died Sunday night at Spring Season Nursing Home in Elkhart.
He was born Nov. 15, 1925, in Texarkana, Ark. to S. “Vestor” and Margaret Hampton Christian.
Mr. Christian was reared in Brushy Creek. He attended school there and at Frankston High School where he played football and was active in FFA. He attended  Texas A&M and Sam Houston State University where he obtained a degree in agriculture.
Mr. Christian served in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific during World War II. He earned several medals including the Purple Heart.
Mr. Christian’s job in petroleum management took him to Arcadia, La., where he lived for 25 years. He owned a Sears store and was active in the Lion’s Club, Baptist church and other community activities. He retired from Chevron before returning to East  Texas.
He was active at Montalba Baptist Church where he went to Honduras on his 74th birthday with the Baptist Men’s organization. He helped rebuild houses after Hurricane Mitch in 1999.
Mr. Christian was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Betty Jean Christian.
Mr. Christian is survived by sons, Charles Wade Christian Jr. of Wimberly, Danny Christian of Onalaska and Robert H. Christian of Algona, Iowa; brothers, John E. Christian of Palestine and Fred L. Christian of Shreveport, La.; sisters, Clara “Totsy” Christian Linnard of Tyler and Mary Christian Moore of Palestine; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Mark Norman, Arvil Patton, Brady Brownlow, Will Brownlow, Walter Dunavent and Don Blount.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today and Wednesday at the funeral home.

Bill Kindred

Services for Bill Kindred, 61, of Grapeland, were at 11 a.m. today at Grapeland Baptist Church with the Revs. W.C. Willis and the Harvey  Taylor officiating. Burial was in Augusta Cemetery under the direction of Callaway-Allee Funeral Home, Crockett.
Mr. Kindred died Saturday at John Sealy Hospital in Galveston.
He was born Dec. 7, 1940 in Palatka, Fla. and had lived in Grapeland for the past 24 years.
Mr. Kindred worked in auto parts sales and was a member of Grapeland Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by a son, Joseph Cameron Kindred; and a grandchild, Amberly Kay Salmon.
Mr. Kindred is survived by his wife of 39 years, Sue Kindred of Grapeland; daughters, Kim Salmon of Grapeland and Karen Berber of Westbrook; a son, William Kindred Jr. of Palestine; his mother, Connie Crouch of Houston; sister, Suzanne Thibodeaux of Houston; brothers, Charles Kindred of Yoakum and Mike Kindred of Houston; and eight grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to University of  Texas Medical Branch in Galveston.

Lula Day Kendrick

Services for Lula Day Kendrick, 65, of Crockett, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Calvary Baptist Church in Crockett with the Rev. Lynn Stephens officiating. Burial will follow in Enon Cemetery under the direction of Callaway-Allee Funeral Home in Crockett.
Mrs. Kendrick died Monday at East  Texas Medical Center in Tyler.
She was born April 27, 1937 in the Plain community and lived most of her life in Houston County. She was a retired LVN and a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
Mrs. Kendrick is survived by her husband, Arnold Kendrick of Crockett; children, Susan Armstrong of Palestine, John Day of Palestine, Janet Day of  Louisiana and Tome Oxford of  Louisiana; stepchildren, Debbie Winfield of Crockett and Ken Kendrick of Nacogdoches; seven grandchildren; eight stepgrandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Calvary Baptist Church Building Fund.

Glen Mattern

Funeral arrangements for Glen Mattern, 45, of Palestine, are pending at Bailey & Foster.
Mr. Mattern died Monday at his home.

Douglas Melvin Cutler

Services for Douglas Melvin Cutler, 70, of Grapeland will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Davey Ray Hobson officiating. Burial will follow in Grapeland City Cemetery under the direction of Bailey & Foster, Grapeland.
Mr. Cutler died Sunday at Spring Seasons of Elkhart.
He was born Sept. 11, 1932, in Sheppard to Roscoe and Lama Lee Owens Cutler.
Mr. Cutler was a carpenter and worked for many years with the Hollywood Overhead Door Company in Houston. He was a member and deacon of Muse Baptist Church.
Mr. Cutler was preceded in death by two brothers, Chester Odell Cutler and Gerel Cutler.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Cutler of Grapeland; daughter, Lanita Cutler Weisinger of Houston; son, Dennis Cutler of Grapeland; sisters, Owena Miles and Carolyn Bates, both of Tyler; brothers, Butch Cutler of Houston and Doyle Kirkpartick of Manvel; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Jamie Hogan, Boyd Ray, Charles Abernathy, Nathan Dyess and Glen Bowman.
Condolence calls will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Burdell Dawkins

Services for Burdell Dawkins, 64, of Buffalo will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the C.L. Boulden Family Life Center at the First St. Holland Baptist Church in Buffalo. Burial will follow in Sand Hill Cemetery in Buffalo under the direction of Emanuel Funeral Home of Teague.
Mrs. Dawkins was born July 9, 1938, to Henry James Hopkins and Arle Tubbs in Buffalo. She was the oldest of eight children.
She attended and received her education at G.B. Bennett High School.
Mrs. Dawkins accepted Christ into her life as a child, and united with New. St. Holland Baptist Church. She served as a choir member, teacher of missions, Deaconess and financial secretary.
Mrs. Dawkins was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Auanell Hopkins; and two brothers, Gerald Hopkins and Johnny Hayes.
She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Eddie Dawkins of Buffalo; sons, Edgar James Dawkins of Buffalo and Victor Ray Dawkins of Houston; daughters, Marilyn Bundage of Houston and Teresa Woodson of Jewett; brothers, Otis Hopkins of Dayton, Samuel Hayes Jr., and Donald D. Hayes, all of Buffalo; sister, Julia Ann Scott of Buffalo; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Betty Joyce Willis

Services for Betty Joyce Willis, 50, of Dew were at 1 p.m. today at Miracle Christian Center in Buffalo with Lloyd and Cheryl Lane officiating. Burial followed at the Dew Cemetery under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home of Buffalo.
Mrs. Willis died Saturday at St. Paul Hospital in Dallas.
She was born May 30, 1952 in Teague.
Mrs. Willis was a homemaker and lifetime resident of Dew. She was a Baptist.
She was preceded in death by her father, Leonard Roy Allen.
Mrs. Willis is survived by her husband, David Howard Willis of Dew; mother, Josie Price of Dew; son, Joey Willis of Dew; daughter, Jenifer Blind of Euless; brothers, Jerry Allen, Donald Allen, Harold Allen, Clyde Allen and Robert Allen, all of Dew; and three grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Jerry Allen, Donald Allen, Harold Allen, Clyde Allen, Robert Allen and Michael Allen.
Honorary pall bearers were Melvin Lanningham, Randy Shelton, Gene Pruitt and Bob Noland.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.

H. Eleanor Easley

Funeral arrangements for Eleanor Easley, 79, of Elkhart are pending at Bailey & Foster.
Mrs. Easley died Sunday at King’s Daughters Hospital in Temple.

Penny Jo Arthur

Funeral arrangements for Penny Jo Arthur, 51, of Grapeland are pending at Bailey & Foster, Grapeland.
Mrs. Arthur died this morning at her residence.

Maurine Brooks

Funeral arrangements for Maurine Brooks, 76, are pending at McCoy Funeral Home.
Mrs. Brooks died Saturday evening at Palestine Regional Medical Center.

Ed Bedre Jr.

Services for Ed Bedre Jr., 84, of Palestine, will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Jeff Cover and the Rev. Doug Blanton officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery under the direction of Bailey & Foster.
Mr. Bedre died Monday at Cartmell Home for Aged.
He was born Feb. 15, 1918 in Anderson County to Ed Bedre Sr. and Martha Selime Nessour Bedre.
Mr. Bedre was an electrical contractor and worked for Vernon Calhoun for over 30 years. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in Germany.
Mr. Bedre was a member of First Presbyterian Church and was a long-standing member of the Men’s Bible Class.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Pace; two brothers, Jack Bedre and Raymond Bedre; a granddaughter, Jeanna Pearl Weeks; and two great-grandchildren, Alicia Ann Miller and Jacob Kole Miller.
Mr. Bedre is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ona Pearl Bedre of Palestine; daughter, Selina Janice Burris of Palestine; sons, Eddie Ray Bedre Sr. and H.E. Scooter Bedre, both of Palestine; sister, Inez Goodwin of Wortham; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Barry Bedre, Kelly Carroll, Brian Bedre, E.R. “Bubba” Bedre Jr., Eric Carroll and Woody Johnson.
Honorary pallbearers will be Vernon Calhoun, Lane Ludtke, Donnie Oxford, Robert Brown, Jerry Gilmore, Mike Oxford, William George Sr. and families and members of the Men’s Bible Class of the First Presbyterian Church.
Condolence calls will be received from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, Hospice of East  Texas or the First Presbyterian Church of Palestine.

Clyde Ashley

Services for Clyde Ashley, 88, of Palestine, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Herrington/Land of Memory Chapel with the Rev. Mike Parker officiating. Burial will follow in Ferguson Cemetery.
Following the service there will be a lunch for friends and family at Memorial Missionary Baptist Church in Elkhart.
Mr. Ashley died Tuesday at Palestine Regional Medical Center.
He was born July 4, 1913 in Anderson County to Joe W. and Julia I. Camp Ashley.
Mr. Ashley was a lifelong resident of Anderson County and a Christian. He worked as a roofer for many builders during his life.
Mr. Ashley is survived by his wife of 66 years, Lela Hamby Ashley of Palestine; son, Kenneth M. Ashley of Austin; daughters, Arlene Long and Elwanda Dunnam, both of Elkhart; brother, John Wesley Ashley of Mesquite; one granddaughter, six stepgrandchildren, 12 stepgreat-grandchildren and six step-great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Gary Ashley, Doug Ashley, Virgil Williams, Darrell Huddleston, Bobbie Joe Crawford and Buckshot Johnston.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Bobby Reed Boykin

Services for Bobby Reed Boykin, 46, of Centerville, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at North Creek Baptist Church with the Revs. Kenneth Stone and Wayne McNeil officiating. Interment will follow in North Creek Cemetery under the direction of Walters Funeral Home.
Mr. Boykin died Monday in a Grapeland heathcare facility.
He was born Dec. 6, 1955 in Teague to James Wesley and Jean Simmons Boykin.
Mr. Boykin was a 1974 graduate of Oakwood High School and lived most of his life in Centerville and Trinity. He worked for the  Texas Department of Criminal Justice for 15 years as a correctional officer. He served in the U.S. Army for three years and in the  Texas Army National Guard for three years. He was a member of North Creek Baptist Church.
He is survived by his parents; sons, Bobby Reed “B.J.” Boykin Jr. and Richard Allen Boykin, both of Crockett; daughter, Becky McMillan of Plantersville, Miss.; brothers, Johnny Boykin and Benny Boykin, both of Centerville; sisters, Jaime McFarland of Palestine and Mary McGehee of Keller; and a granddaughter.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m.

Gwendolyn Norris Page

Services for Gwendolyn Norris Page, 81, of Palestine, will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in the Bailey & Foster Chapel with the Rev. Jay Abernathy officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Park.
Mrs. Page died Tuesday at Palestine Regional Medical Center.
She was born Aug. 31, 1920 in Anderson County to Leonard A. Norris and Mignon Harris Norris.
Mrs. Page was a member of the First Baptist Church. She and her husband owned and operated Andy Page Food Market in Old Town for many years. At the time of her retirement she was a supervisor for Curtis Mathis Manufacturing Co. in Athens.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Andy Page, in 1991; two brothers, Alton Norris and Chandler Norris; and a sister, Cleo Norris.
Mrs. Page is survived by sisters, Louise Owens and Gera Crampton, both of McKinney; and a brother, Leo Norris of Spring.
Condolence calls will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Doris Hall

Services for Doris Hall, 78, of Palestine, are pending at Bailey & Foster.
Mrs. Hall died this morning at Carmell Home for the Aged.

Refugio Nunez

Services for Refugio Nunez, 95, of Montalba, and formerly of Mexico, will be at 5 p.m. today at Middle Cemetery with the Rev. Les Bauer officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Mrs. Nunez died this morning at her residence.
She was born July 4, 1906 in El Grullo Jalisco, Mexico. She was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church.
Mrs. Nunez was preceded in death by her husband.
She is survived by a son, Roberto Sierra; five grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
