James Cannon Arnold
Funeral services for James Cannon Arnold, 18, of Longview will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 14, at the Rader Funeral Home Chapel in Longview with Pastor Tom Roberson officiating. Interment will follow in Rosewood Park cemetery. Jim died Monday at his residence. He had been a Longview resident since 1990 and attended Spring Hill High School. He was born in El Paso on Aug. 14, 1979, was a student, a member of the ROTC, attended the U.S. Marine Military Academy in Harlingen and was a member of the Oakland Heights Baptist Church. Jim was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Clem R. Cannon and Holley H. Arnold. He is survived by his parents, Jim and Jerrye Arnold of Longview; his sisters, Michelle Whitten of Gilman City, Mo., Jamie Moran of Round Rock and Robin Lee Arnold, also of Round Rock; his grandmothers, Mary Cannon of Karnes City and Amyl Arnold of Longview; his aunts, Christy Champagne of Corpus Christi and Lisa Theriot of Karnes City; and his nephew, Lee Moran, and his nieces, Miranda Whitten and Holley Moran. The family asks that those desiring to do so may make memorial contributions to the Oakland Heights Baptist Church Family Life Center.

Barney Bodiford
CARTHAGE - Graveside services for Barney S. Bodiford, 75, of Jefferson will be held at 10 a.m. today at Woodlawn cemetery in Timpson with the Rev. Rex Humphreys officiating. Arrangements are by Jimerson Funeral Home. Mr. Bodiford died Monday at a Longview hospital. Born Nov. 24, 1922, in Wood County, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II and retired from Rhom & Haas in Deer Park, Texas. Survivors include his wife, Linda L. Bodiford; brother, John W. Bodiford of Timpson; son, Barney R. Bodiford of Las Vegas, Nev.; daughters, Linda D. Page of Humble, Judy G. Mills of Conroe and Teri L. Bodiford of Houston; seven grandchildren; five great-grand- children; and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins. He was preceded in death by son Keith Bodiford.

Edward Ferrell
Services for Edward Ferrell, 77, of Longview will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, May 14, at Rader Funeral Home Chapel in Longview with Dr. Harry Lucenay and the Rev. Dewayne Beaty of the First Baptist Church officiating. Entombment will be at Rosewood Park Mausoleum. Mr. Ferrell died Tuesday, May 12, 1998, in Longview. Born June 24, 1920, in Glenwood, Ark., Mr. Ferrell had been a leading real estate developer in Longview since the 1950s. He moved to Longview in the mid-1930s and was a graduate of Longview High School, the University of Texas at Austin and the University of Texas Law School. He was married to Helen C. Ferrell of Georgetown on July 4, 1942, and was a B-29 navigator for the U.S. Army-Air Force 1942-1946 during World War II. Mr. Ferrell returned to Longview to practice law in 1949. During his career, he was owner of Ferrell Realty and Construction, Central Title Co and Moffett-Ferrell Lumber Co. He was a practicing attorney and a widely known home builder and residential and commercial developer. His developments include Brookwood Village Shopping Center, Judson Plaza Office Building, Tall Pines Center, Northwest Hills, Hampshire Place, Brookwood Place and Sherwood Place. He was a past district governor and president of Longview Lions Club and a charter member and past president of the Longview Board of Realtors as well as the Longview Home Builders Association. Survivors include his wife, Helen Ferrell of Longview; a daughter and son-in-law, Ann and David Ritchie of Edmond, Okla.; son and daughter-in-law Dick and Tracy Ferrell of Dallas and son John Ferrell of Longview; and his grandchildren, Christie, Drew and Lisa Ritchie, Alek Ferrell and Jennifer Ferrell. Visitation is 5-7 p.m. today, May 13, at Rader Funeral Home.

Sarah Gill
Graveside services for Mrs. Sarah Gill, 86, of Longview will be held at 2 p.m. today, May 13, at Lakeview cemetery with the Rev. Joe Kannampuzha officiating. Interment will be in Lakeview cemetery under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview. Mrs. Gill died Saturday, May 9, 1998, in a Longview hospital. A native of Wilburton, Okla., she was born May 4, 1912, and had lived in Longview for the past 20 years, having moved from Maryland. She was a phone operator for Jeleff's Department Store, a member of the Catholic church and the AARP. Survivors include her husband, Raymond E. Gill Sr. of Longview; two sons, William Nathan Gill of Longview and Raymond E. Gill Jr. of Crofton, Md.; a sister, Cecila K. Ross of Longview; and six grandchildren.

George Vernon Keen
Memorial services for George Vernon Keen, 83, of Longview, formerly of Odessa, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 15, 1998, at the Odessa Gospel Lighthouse. Mr. Keen will be cremated under the direction of Welch Funeral Home. He died Tuesday, May 12, 1998, in a local hospital. Local survivors include one daughter, Merijo Pitman of Longview.

Mack Kerr
HUGHES SPRINGS - Services for Mack Kerr, 79, of Hughes Springs will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 14, at the Turkey Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Charles Russell and the Rev. Dale Carter officiating. Burial will be in Turkey Creek cemetery, directed by Reeder-Davis Funeral Home. Mr. Kerr died Tuesday, May 11 at his residence. He was born July 15, 1918. He retired from Lone Star Steel and was a member of Turkey Creek Baptist Church. Mr. Kerr was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, He is survived by his wife, Velma Kerr of Hughes Springs; two daughters and sons-in-law, Bettie and Gene McCord and Annette and Joe Stephens, all of Hughes Springs; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Jean and Bill Darrow and Vernelle and Kenneth Spurgeon, all of Shreveport, La.; three grandchildren and their spouses, Mark and Monica McCord, Debbie and Van Hall and Cole and Missie McCord, all of Hughes Springs; eight great-grandchildren; one stepson and stepdaughter-in-law, Derial and Quincy Green of Bettie; three stepgrandchildren; and four stepgreat-grandchildren. Visitation is 7-9 p.m. today, May 13, at the funeral home.

CORSICANA - Services for Les Kitchens, 88, of Barry will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home Chapel in Blooming Grove with the Rev. Virginia Bassford officiating. Burial will be in Cryer Creek cemetery. Mr. Kitchens died Tuesday, May 12, 1998, at a Corsicana nursing home. He was born Jan. 30, 1910, in Spring Hill, Texas. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Tots Kitchens of Barry; a daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Ronnie Germany of Longview; a brother, N.A. Kitchens of Mansfield; his sisters, Mary Barham of Mansfield, Pearlie Lile of Mansfield and Ellie Meek of Grandview; and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Don Kitchens, Bill Kitchens, Thomas Kitchens, Jimmy Waldrop, Glen Kitchens and Jerry Kitchens. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home in Blooming Grove. Memorials may be made to the Barry United Methodist Church.

Louis Nelson Jr.
Services for Louis Nelson Jr. of Longview will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Citizens Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jimmy Nelson and the Rev. Travis Stinson officiating. Burial will be in Grable cemetery. Mr. Nelson, a lifetime resident of Gregg County, was a self-employed mechanic. Survivors include his wife, Vera Nelson, and two sisters. Viewing at the funeral home is 2-9 p.m. today with family visitation 7-8 p.m.

MARSHALL - Graveside services for James David "Dave" Phelps, 84, of Hallsville will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Colonial Gardens cemetery with the Rev. Kenneth Flanagan officiating. Arrangements are by the Sullivan Family of Funeral Directors. Mr. Phelps died Tuesday in Longview. He was born Jan. 15, 1914. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home's Travis Street location.

Lloyd A. Read Sr.
KILGORE - Services for Lloyd A. Read Sr., 86, of Kilgore will be held at 2 p.m. today, May 13, at the Rader Funeral Home Chapel in Kilgore with the Rev. Sonny Selden officiating. The burial will follow in the Kilgore cemetery. Mr. Read died Monday, May 11, 1998, in Longview, Texas. He was born March 13, 1912, in Ben Hur, Texas. Mr. Read was a member of Saint Luke's United Methodist Church and also attended the Eastview Baptist Church. He retired as a mechanic from the International Harvester Co. in Waco. Mr. Read received his 50-year pin as a Mason in 1996. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Ina Mae Read; two sons and daughters-in-law, Bill V. and Kay Read of Kilgore and Lloyd A. Jr. and Pat Read of Kilgore; a daughter, Candace Read of Kilgore; seven grandchildren, Terri Ken- nedy of Watauga, Brad Read of Tyler, Steve Green of Longview, Lonnie and Tony Read of Kilgore, Jay Day of Denton and Chris Jones of Kilgore; three great-grandchildren, Justin and Tyler Kennedy of Watauga and Whitney Green of Longview; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Read was preceded in death by grandsons Jimmy Read and Trey Jones. The family received friends 6-7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Eastview Baptist Church.

MARSHALL - Mass of Christian burial for Mae Margaret Touhey, 86, of Marshall will be 10 a.m. Friday, May 15, at St. Joseph Catholic Church cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Sullivan Funeral Home. Ms. Touhey died Tuesday, May 12, 1998, in a Marshall nursing home. She was born on Aug. 15, 1911, in Harrison County.

Charlene White
PITTSBURG - Services for Charlene White, 71, of Pittsburg will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 14, at Erman Smith Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. DeWayne Bolton officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill cemetery. Mrs. White died Sunday, May 10, 1998, at East Texas Medical Center in Tyler. She was born March 16, 1927, in Arkansas and had resided in Pittsburg 60 years. She was a member of the Church of the Nazarene and the retired owner and operator of a child care business in Pittsburg. She was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar White Jr., on Aug. 16, 1990, and by her parents, W.O. Dunlap and Virgie Marshall Dunlap. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Marilyn White of Lake Jackson; her daughter and son-in-law, Gayla and Van Davis of Pittsburg; a brother, Sonny Dunlap of Jacksonville; a sister, Juanita Banard of Livingston; five grandchildren, Dana Leverton, Jeff White, Alan White, Melanie Gryder and Traci Davis; and three great-grandchildren, Bradley Reinhart, Paige White and Kaley White. Visitation is 7-9 p.m. today, May 13, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the National Leukemia Research Association or the Camp Ambulance Service, 122 E. Church St., Pittsburg, TX 75686.

She was a member of the Christian Church and over the years had been a director of many youth groups and women's organizations.
