Wilbur D. Duffey
GILMER - Funeral services for Wilbur Duffey, 85, of Gilmer will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, May 15, at Croley Funeral Home Chapel in Gilmer with Larry Osborne officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Park cemetery. Mr. Duffey died Wednesday, May 13, 1998, at Longview Regional Hospital. He was born Oct. 6, 1912, in Upshur County. He retired in 1977 as senior manager of the civil division of Brown and Root Construction Co., where he had worked for 38 years. He was a life member and former president of the AGC and a member of the Bethesda Lodge #142 AF&AM;, the First Baptist Church and the Fellowship Sunday School Class. He married the former Mabel Dean Isbell on Dec. 26, 1931, and she survives him. Other survivors, all of Gilmer, are his daughter and son-in-law, Patsy and Edwin R. Kent; his granddaughter and her husband, Rene and Phil Dyer; a grandson and his wife, Eddie and Debbie Kent; and his great-granddaughter, Brooklyn Rene Dyer. Bill Ballard of Gilmer was a special friend. He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Etta Duffey, and a sister, Lorene Taylor. Pallbearers are Leon Elliott, Paul Hall, Bill Dean, D.B. Parker, Conrad Coppedge and Frank Breazeale. Honorary pallbearers are the Fellowship Sunday School Class. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Cecilia Ann Ponder Elswick
Memorial services for Cecilia Ann Elswick, 53, of Gilmer, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 15, at Grace Baptist Church in Gladewater. Mrs. Elswick was born Feb. 20, 1945, in Pasadena, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents, Cecil and Oneta Ponder. She is survived by one daughter, Lisa Valle of Madison, W.Va.; two sons, Phillip Richard Elswick Jr. of Morganton, N.C., and Samual E. Elswick of Van, W.Va.; six grandchildren; two sisters, Virginia Granger of Gilmer and Kay Roberts of Port Barre, La.; two brothers, William A. Ponder and Jesse A. Ponder II, both of Baton Rouge, La.; one special niece, Jessica Ann Baker; and several other nieces and nephews. Arrangements are by East Texas Funeral Home.

Robert Allen Galloway
GLADEWATER - On May 11, 1998, our beloved Brother Robert Allen Galloway entered the Kingdom of Heaven in the presence of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. After a 14-year battle with cancer, he approached death with courage and dignity and will be missed by his loving family and friends. Services for Robert Allen Galloway, 44, of Big Sandy will be held at Calvary Baptist Church of Gladewater on Friday, May 15, at 2 p.m. with his brother Stephen Galloway and Dr. J. Prentis McGee officiating. Burial will follow at the Galloway-Horn cemetery. The arrangements are under the direction of Croley Funeral Home of Gladewater. Born on Nov. 15, 1953, in Owensboro, Ky., to Robert Bertran Galloway and Olive Marie Galloway, he moved with his family to Angleton, Texas, where he attended school and later began his trade as a millwright with Lubrizol Industries of Pasadena, Texas. In 1993, he moved to Big Sandy to share the rest of his life with his family and friends. Survivors include his daughter, Michelle Louis Everett of Big Sandy; grandson, Alec Darby Robbins of Big Sandy; mother, Olive Marie Chada of Big Sandy; brothers and sisters-in-law Stephen Oniel and Sandra Galloway of Big Sandy and Daniel Arthur and Debbie Horn of Big Sandy; brothers Rick Horn of Angleton and Michael Bergstresser of Louisville, Ky.; sisters and brothers-in-law Molly and John Siegler of Freeport, Lillie and John Thomas of Angleton and Carol and Mike Austin of Hemet, Calif.; and sisters Teri Latriece Stephens of Angelton and Linda Bosarge of Rosenberg. Pallbearers will be Kevin Galloway, Christina Marie Galloway, Jason Horn, Kimberly Horn, Guy Laughlin and Grace Grayson. Honorary pallbearers will be Vance St. Clair, Donald Miller and Bobby Everett. Memorial contributions may be made to the Homeplace Hospice of Tyler, 3800 Paluxy, Suite 560, Tyler, TX 75703, or to Calvary Baptist Church, 1228 U.S. 80, Gladewater, TX 75647. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. today, May 14, at Croley Funeral Home of Gladewater.

Gertrude Grant
KILGORE Ñ Services for Gertrude Grant, 92, of Kilgore will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 15, at the Rader Funeral Home Chapel in Kilgore with the Rev. David Hampton officiating. Burial will follow in the Kilgore Memorial Gardens cemetery. Mrs. Grant died Tuesday, May 12, 1998. She was born Oct. 5, 1905, in Indian Territory, Okla. Mrs. Grant moved to Kilgore in 1930. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, where she worked in the nursery department for 46 years. Mrs. Grant and her husband owned and operated Grant Tire Co. in Kilgore for 30 years. Mrs. Grant is survived by her son, Dr. Jim H. Grant of Nine Mile Point, La.; one daughter, Patsy Hardaway of Kilgore; a grandson and his wife, Brant and Virginia Hardaway of Hallsville; three great-grandchildren; and many friends and loved ones. She was preceded in death by her husband, V.L. Grant, and her parents, Samuel and Maudie Parsons. The family will receive friends between 6 and 8 this evening at Rader Funeral Home in Kilgore. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church Nursery Fund, P.O. Box 1206, Kilgore, TX 75663-1206.

Mack Kerr
HUGHES SPRINGS - Services for Mack Kerr, 79, of Hughes Springs will be held at 10 a.m. today, May 14, at the Turkey Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Charles Russell and the Rev. Dale Carter officiating. Burial will be in Turkey Creek cemetery, directed by Reeder-Davis Funeral Home. Mr. Kerr died Tuesday, May 12, 1998, at his residence. He was born July 15, 1918. He retired from Lone Star Steel and was a member of Turkey Creek Baptist Church. Mr. Kerr was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He is survived by his wife, Velma Kerr of Hughes Springs; two daughters and sons-in-law, Bettie and Gene McCord and Annette and Joe Stephens, all of Hughes Springs; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Jean and Bill Darrow and Vernelle and Kenneth Spurgeon, all of Shreveport, La.; three grandchildren and their spouses, Mark and Monica McCord, Debbie and Van Hall and Cole and Missie McCord, all of Hughes Springs; eight great-grandchildren; one stepson and stepdaughter-in-law, Derial and Quincy Green of Bettie; three stepgrandchildren; and four stepgreat-grandchildren. Visitation was held 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

James Rosser McGrath
James Rosser McGrath, born in Dallas, Texas, March 24, 1907, passed away March 17, 1998, just one week before his 91st birthday. Beloved husband, father and grandfather, he is survived by his wife of 67 years, Ednajo McGrew McGrath; a son, James R. McGrath Jr. and his wife, Dorothy, of Wilmington, Del.; a daughter, Barbara McGrath Stoddard and her husband, Richard, of Dallas; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He graduated from Forest Avenue High School in Dallas. He worked for Lybrand, Ross Bros. and Montgomery accounting firm for many years. The family moved to Monterrey, Mexico, when he became the comptroller of Cia. Minera y Meturlurgica de Penoles, S.A. He served in this capacity for the company both there and in Mexico City until his retirement. He was an active member of the Masons for 50 years in Dallas; Monterrey, Mexico; Mexico City, Mexico; and Longview, Texas. During that time he achieved the 32nd Degree and received the honorary 33rd Degree while serving as Grand Master of the York Grand Lodge of Mexico. He was a noble of the Anezeh Temple of the Shriners of Mexico City, and he belonged to Commanderey No. 1 of the Tempico, Mexico, Knights Templar. He received an honorary award from the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants for serving 50 continuous years as a certified public accountant. After his retirement he and his wife moved to Longview, where they lived for about 25 years before moving to the Christian Care Center in Mesquite, Texas, two years ago to be near their daughter. Visitation was held 6-8 p.m. Thursday, March 19, and funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 20, at Sparkman/Hillcrest Northwest Highway Chapel with Dr. Dudley Dancer officiating. Interment was in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Ednajo McGrew McGrath
Ednajo McGrew McGrath, born in Pulaski, Tenn., June 29, 1911, departed this life April 26, 1998, after an extended illness. She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, James R. McGrath, on March 17, 1998. Beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she is survived by her son, James R. McGrath Jr. and his wife, Dorothy, of Wilmington, Del.; a daughter, Barbara McGrath Stoddard and her husband, Richard, of Dallas; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grand- children. Jo graduated from Forest Avenue High School in Dallas and married Jim in 1931. She moved with her family to Monterrey, Mexico, where she was a loving and devoted homemaker. After her husband's retirement, they moved to Longview, Texas, where they lived about 25 years before moving to the Christian Care Center in Mesquite, Texas, two years ago to be near their daughter. Ednajo was a kind, good-natured and caring person who will be sorely missed by all who were lucky enough to know her. Visitation was held 6-8 p.m. Thursday, April 30. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 2, at Sparkman-Hillcrest Northwest Highway Chapel. Interment was in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Paul Wayne Shankles
Funeral services for Paul Wayne Shankles, 40, of Kilgore will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Trinity Baptist Church with the Rev. Gary Orr and the Rev. Edward Williamson officiating. Burial will follow in Crims Chapel cemetery under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview. Mr. Shankles died Tuesday after a lengthy illness. He was born Aug. 29, 1957, in Texarkana, Ark. He had been a resident of Kilgore for the past 23 years. He was an industrial technician for Longview Inspection for 20 years. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church. Mr. Shankles was preceded in death by his father, Ferris Ray Shankles. He is survived by his wife, Brenda Shankles of Kilgore; a daughter, Wendy Shankles of Kilgore; a grandson, Brent Shankles of Kilgore; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Steve and Sharon Shankles of Diana, David and Debra Shankles of Longview, Randy Shankles of Florida and Ricky and Sato Shankles of Duncanville; his stepsisters, Jacqueline LeLand of California, Sheila Boyett of Orange and Deena Coulombe of Grand Prairie; a stepsister and stepbrother-in-law, Kimberly and Wil Fails of Ore City; his stepmother, Delores Harris of Orange; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Ulas Ray 'Snuffy' Arnold
GILMER - Services for Ulas Ray "Snuffy" Arnold, 50, of Hallsville will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 16, at Croley Funeral Home Chapel in Gilmer with the Rev. Randy Hageman and the Rev. Jim Hilton officiating. Burial will be in Soules Chapel cemetery. Mr. Arnold died Wednesday, May 13, 1998, in Hallsville. He was born Oct. 14, 1947, in Pittsburg, Texas. On July 16, 1982, he married Kathy Stevens in Gilmer. He was a truck driver. He was preceded in death by his father, Barney Ray Arnold. He is survived by his wife, Kathy Arnold of Hallsville; one son, Heath Hill of Hallsville; two daughters, Tori Armstrong of Kilgore and Stacy Griffith of San Antonio; one brother, Jesse David Arnold of Keller; his mother, Janie Arnold Julian of Gilmer; and two grandchildren. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Brigham Reed Bingham
Services for Brigham Reed Bingham, 75, formerly of Longview, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 16, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Longview with Bishop Charles Wagley and Bishop Doug Bell officiating. Entombment will be in Memory Park in Longview. Arrangements are under the direction of Lakeview Funeral Home. Mr. Bingham died Monday, May 11, 1998, in Yelm, Wash. Mr. Bingham was born Dec. 29, 1922, to Eva Viola Stratford and Brigham Albert Bingham in Honeyville, Utah. During World War II, he was a private 1st class in the U.S. Army, with a specialty in sharp-shooting skills. Serving on the European front, he was wounded in Germany and received the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. He was a member of and a high priest in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Mr. Bingham is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Brigham R. and Rose Bingham of Dallas, Richard N. and Gay Bingham of Dallas, and Ray and Lisa Bingham of Sacramento, Calif.; his daughters and sons-in-law, Viola and John Watt of Longview, Naomi and Ken Woods of Aurora, Ill., and Juanita and DeWayne John of Yelm, Wash.; four brothers, B. Albert Bingham and Earl Bingham, both of Honeyville, Utah, Clifford Bingham of Corrine, Utah and Marriner Bingham of Napa, Idaho; one sister, Beth Richins of Coleville, Utah; 24 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Mr. Bingham's grandsons, Ray Watt, Robert Watt, Terence Watt, Carey Watt, Allen Muckleroy and Larry Cahill. Honorary pallbearers will be Brigham Bingham III, David Bingham and Benjamin Bingham. Visitation is 6-8 this evening, May 15, at Lakeview Funeral Home in Longview.

Winfred Elwin 'Al' Bracher
Memorial services for Winfred Elwin "Al" Bracher, 73, of Gilmer will be held at a later date. Mr. Bracher died Thursday at his home. He served in the U.S. Army, achieving the rank of sergeant. He was a trucker, living many years in the Gilmer area. Area survivers include his wife, Beverly; son Leslie Bracher of Hallsville, and daughter Barbara Bearden of Mount Pleasant.

Alton E. 'Dugan' Bridwell
Graveside services for Alton Edward "Dugan" Bridwell, 92, of Longview will be held at 3 p.m. today, May 15, at the Caladonia cemetery, between Mount Enterprise and Timpson, with the Rev. J.S. ÒSlimÓ Sullivan officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Welch Funeral Home. Mr. Bridwell died Wednesday, May 13, 1998, in a local nursing home. He was born June 23, 1905, in the County Line community in Rusk County, Texas, and had been a resident of Longview since 1946. Mr. Bridwell was a Baptist and a member of the Mount Enterprise Masonic Lodge No. 1378. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and attending baseball and football games. Mr. Bridwell was a steel mill crane operator. Mr. Bridwell is survived by one daughter, Nell Huey; one son and daughter-in-law, John Haley and Elaine Nix; grandchildren, Pam Huey Salter, Freida Evans, Rick Huey and Eddie Nix, all of Longview; eight great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter.
