CARTHAGE -Ñ Services for James Shirley McDaniel, 69, of Carthage will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Jimerson Funeral Home Chapel with Bruce James and Al Neal officiating, with burial in Antioch cemetery. He died Thursday. A member of Northside Church of Christ, he served in the U.S. Army in Korea and retired from Panola County Road and Bridge Department.

Michael Wayne Merritt Jr.
KILGORE - Services for Michael Wayne Merritt Jr., 21, of Kilgore will be held at the First Baptist Church in Kilgore, Texas, at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 16, 1998, with the Rev. Dr. Mark McClelland and the Rev. Herb Spady officiating. The burial will follow in the Danville cemetery in Kilgore. Michael died Wednesday, May 13, 1998, in Longview, Texas. Michael was born Aug. 5, 1976, in Longview and lived in Kilgore with his parents. Michael was a 1995 graduate of Kilgore High School, where he played fullback on the Bulldog soccer team. His team won district, bi-district and area championships. Michael was an accounting major at LeTourneau University. He enjoyed weightlifting, jogging, soccer, hunting, fishing, studying and being with his friends and family. He attended and is a member of the First Baptist Church of Kilgore. Michael is survived by his parents, Mike and Teresa Merritt; a sister, Lacy Merritt; grandparents, Margaret Merritt and Herb and Bonnie Dyer; aunts and uncles, Bob and Merita Barbee and A.P. and Susie Merritt, all of Kilgore, Frieda Henderson of Dallas, and Tommy and Janet Merritt of Longview; his close friend of many years, Tiffany Owen; and cousins, Lonnie Henderson, Tiffany, Tara, Robert, Julyann, Missy, Meredith and Thomas, and six second cousins. Memorial contributions may be made to LeTourneau University of Longview.

William C. 'Bill' Peyton
Private family services for William C. Peyton, 88, will be held at the Greenwood cemetery in Teague, Texas. Mr. Peyton passed away May 9, 1998, at his residence following a sudden illness. He was born on Dec. 2, 1909, in Fairfield, Freestone County, Texas. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in the South Pacific during World War II. He was manager of Longview Automatic Gas Co. from 1946 until his retirement in 1987. Mr. Peyton is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ruth Hendrix Peyton of Longview; his son, Don F. Peyton of Longview; his grandson, Jeremy C. Peyton of Nacogdoches; and his granddaughters, Alecia R. Peyton and Ashlie A. Peyton, both of Longview In lieu of the usual remembrances, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association. Family friend George McGrede with East Texas Funeral Home handled all arrangements.

CARTHAGE - Services for James Mikell Pigott, 50, of Longview, formerly of Portland, Texas, will be held at 2 p.m. today in the Hawthorn Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Sandy Hook Baptist cemetery in Sandy Hook, Miss., at 2 p.m. Saturday.

Alton Ervin Proctor
GLADEWATER - Funeral services for Alton Ervin Proctor, 66, of Longview will be held at Croley Funeral Home Chapel in Gladewater at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 16, with the Rev. Jim Barksdale and the Rev. Bill Hardage officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at Gladewater Memorial Park. Mr. Proctor was born on July 25, 1931, in Marshall, Texas, to the late Alton Irvin and Myrtle Gertrude Proctor. He died on Wednesday, May 13, 1998, at a Longview hospital. He was a retired master sergeant of the United States Air Force after 22 years of service, and he was a member of the Valley View Baptist Church in Longview. Mr. Proctor is survived by his wife, Deloris Proctor of Longview; two sons, Kenneth Proctor of Hixson, Tenn., and David Proctor of Belvedere, Ill.; four daughters, Jan Good of Amboy, Ill., Karen Sarginson of Grapevine, Sheryl Soto of Corpus Christi and Cathy Rockwell of Capron, Ill.; three stepsons, John Daniel of Gladewater, Alfred Daniel of Longview and Ron Daniel of Euless; two stepdaughters, Mary Goodwin of Lawrence- ville, Ga., and Sherry Owens of Longview; 22 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; one brother, Edmond Proctor of Graham; and two sisters, Corine White and Juanita Ford, both of Gladewater. Visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. today, May 15, at Croley Funeral Home of Gladewater.

Claudia Jan Reed
Graveside services for Claudia Jan Reed, 56, of Longview will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Pleasant Grove cemetery in Sulphur Springs with the Rev. Frank Kuhl officiating. Burial will be under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview. Visitation will be 7-9 this evening at the funeral home. She died Thursday, May 14, 1998, in a local hospital. Mrs. Reed was born April 11, 1942, in Memphis, Texas, and had been a resident of Longview for the past 22 years, moving from Hale Center, Texas. She was a homemaker and a member of the Woodland Hills Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband, Morris A. Reed of Longview; her daughter and son-in-law, Jana and Richard Byford of Marshall; her sons and a daughter-in-law, Allen Reed of Harleton and Faron and Jacqueline Reed of Longview; one sister, Sonja Perkins of Lubbock; two brothers, Michael O'Hair of New Boston and Fred O'Hair of Longview; her mother, Artie Faye O'Hair of Bovina, Texas; and her grandchildren, Reed, Cole and Kailyn.

Services for Darren Keith Reese, 30, of Longview will be held at 10 a.m. today at Lakeview Mausoleum Chapel in Longview with the Rev. Randy Pitts officiating. Mr. Reese was born June 3, 1967, in Longview and lived here all his life. He is survived by his parents, Gerald and Nola Reese; three brothers, Bruce Reese Jr., Jimmy R. Reese, and Billy Reese; a sister, Denise Finley; his grandmother, Pearl Reese; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Letha Adelle Smith
MARSHALL - Graveside services for Letha Adelle Morris Simmons Smith, 83, of Hawkins will be held at 2 p.m. today, May 15, at Liberty cemetery in Harleton with the Rev. Johnny J. Joiner Jr. of Marshall officiating. Arrangements are by the Sullivan Family of Funeral Directors. Mrs. Smith died Wednesday, May 13, 1998, in Tyler after an extended illness. Mrs. Smith was born Feb. 18, 1915, in Harleton to Julia Ada Herring and John Allen "Al" Morris, both of Georgia. She was educated at Smyrna School near Harleton and was a member of the Second Baptist Church of Marshall. She married Jack Simmons on March 15, 1933, in Harleton. He died June 17, 1969. She later married Leslie Jewell Smith on Dec. 8, 1969, in Marshall. He died Nov. 19, 1987. From the early 1960s to the mid-1970s, Mrs. Smith was a nurse's aide at the Shady Pines Nursing Home. Previous employment included the State Line Cafe in Waskom and managing the Highway Cafe in Marshall. Mrs. Smith is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Bobby Gene Simmons and Pat Simmons of Hawkins; a grandson and his wife, Rickey Lynn and Sheila Simmons of Kilgore; a granddaughter and her husband, Sharell Sue and Floyce Eason of Paris; and four great-grandchildren, Raylon Eason of Beckville, Misty Dawn Eason of Paris, Patrick Simmons of Kilgore and Lara Simmons, also of Kilgore. Visitation was 5-7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home on Travis Street.

Burial will be in Woodlawn cemetery in Woodlawn. Ms. Wood died Thursday at her residence. She was born April 11, 1917, in Pittsburg, Kan.

GILMER - Services for J.C. Yandle, 72, of Hawkins will be held at 2 p.m. today at the Liberty Baptist Church in Wood County. Burial will be in Liberty cemetery. Arrangements are by Croley Funeral Home of Gilmer. Mr. Yandle died Wednesday in Quitman. Born Aug. 6, 1925, in Greenville, Texas, he lived most of his life in Wood County and was a retired rancher.

Raymond E. Gill Sr.
Graveside services for Raymond E. Gill Sr., 87, of Longview will be held at 11 a.m. today, May 16, at Lakeview cemetery with Father Joe Kannampuzha officiating. Interment will be in Lakeview cemetery under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview. Mr. Gill died Friday, May 15, 1998, in a Longview hospital. A native of Ashdown, Ark., he was born Feb. 8, 1911, and had lived in Longview for the past 20 years, moving from Maryland. He was a retired sergeant in the U.S. Capital Police Department and a member of the Catholic church, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Survivors include two sons, William Nathan Gill of Longview and Raymond E. Gill Jr. of Crofton, Md., and six grandchildren.

Burial will be in Daingerfield cemetery, directed by John R. Harmon Undertaking Co. Mr. Gilstrap died Tuesday in Atlanta. He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church and had worked for the Pilgrim's Pride Corp.

He served in the U.S. Army in the Vietnam War and was a parts salesman and a Baptist.
