Lesley Brock
Services for Lesley Brock, 84, of Elkhart will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Bailey & Foster Chapel with the Rev. Michael Mynatt officiating. A military graveside service will be held at Crawford Cemetery in Elkhart following the chapel service.

Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey & Foster.

Mr. Brock died at 3:10 p.m. Tuesday at Spring Season Nursing Home in Elkhart.
He was a twin, born Feb. 4, 1919 in Gordonville,  Texas to Martin and Etta Brock.

Mr. Brock was a member of the Norwood Heights Baptist Church. He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3907 and the Disabled American Veterans. He was a veteran of the United States Army and served in the Battery A 96th Antiaircraft Artillery Gun Battalion during World War II.

He married his wife Myra on March 28, 1994. He was a loving husband, friend and companion to Myra and adopted her family into his heart as his own.

Mr. Brock was preceded in death by sister, Pearl McCoy LaBeth; brothers, Haskell, Buddy and Richard Lee; and twin brother, Wesley.

He is survived by his wife, Myra Brock of Elkhart; sister, Lucille Foster of Beaumont; brother, Manuel Brock of Noonday; five children; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be his brothers in service of the Disabled American Veterans.

Honorary pallbearers will be Archie Brock, Bobby Brock, Dickie Brock, Gary Brock, Billy Prock and Kenneth Skaggs.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight at the funeral home.

Mary Marie Harris

Services for Mary Marie Harris, 36, of Mexia, will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at  Taylor Chapel Church of God in Christ in Wortham. Burial will follow at Wortham Cemetery under the direction of Emanuel Funeral Home of Teague.

Mrs. Harris died Sunday in Mexia.
She was born Nov. 20, 1966, in Corsicana to Melvin and Varla Mae Goodson Harris.
Mrs. Harris received her education from the Wortham public schools and McKinney Job Corp. She was employed as a home health care provider. She was a member of Taylor’s Chapel COGIC.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Davion D. Harris; and sister, Callie May Harris.

Mrs. Harris is survived by her fiancé, Kenneth Gardner of Mexia; daughter, Tamika N. Harris of Mexia; god-daughter, Felicia Jones; brother, Jay Goodson; sister, Cathy Harris; and one grandchild.
Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Jimmie H. Tubbs

Services for Jimmie H. Tubbs, 82, will be at noon Saturday at Lone Star Baptist Church in Oakwood. Burial will follow at Lone Star Cemetery in Oakwood under the direction of Emanuel Funeral Home.

Mr. Tubbs died Thursday at Dogwood Trails Nursing Center in Palestine.

He was born Aug. 15, 1920, to Oliver Hughes and Annie Mae Parks.

Mr. Tubbs was reared by Jim Tubbs of Buffalo. He attended Buffalo public schools. He was a member of New St. Holland Baptist Church and later joined lone Star Baptist Church. He was employed by Missouri Pacific Railroad for 43 years before retiring.

He was married to the late Bessie Mae Gilford and later married Lee Bertha Durham in 1957.
Mr. Tubbs was preceded in death by his first wife; and daughter, Jimmie Ann Tubbs.

He is survived by his wife, Lee Bertha Tubbs of Oakwood; sons, Donald Ray Tubbs of Dallas, Mack Edward Tubbs of DeSoto, Jimmy Tubbs Jr. of Norman, Okla. and Jerry Tubbs of Temple; brother, Largel Tubbs of Cleveland, Ohio; sisters, Vera Jenkins of Cleveland, Ohio and Marceal Williams of Buffalo; stepsister, La Pearl Landers of Kansas City, Mo.; and 14 grandchildren.

Willie Draton

Services for Willie Draton, 85, of Centerville, will be at noon Saturday at Pleasant Spring AME Church. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Spring Cemetery with the Rev. Kenneth Donalson officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Emanuel Funeral Home, Crockett.

Mrs. Draton died Friday at her residence.
She was born Feb. 14, 1917, in Centerville to Johnnie and Pearlie  Jackson Rains.

Mrs. Draton attended school in the Pleasant Spring community. She was a member of Pleasant Spring AME Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, R.K. Draton; and siblings, Polly Johnson, Robbie Rains, Gertrude Davis, Nillie Ard, James Rains and twin Will Rains.
Mrs. Draton is survived by a host of nieces.

Hoyt Johnston

Services for Hoyt Johnston, 79, of Palestine, will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at Bailey & Foster Chapel with Dan Manuel officiating. Burial will be Roselawn Park.
Mr. Johnston died Thursday at East  Texas Medical Center in Tyler.
He was born June 10, 1922 in Sand Springs to V.M. Johnston and Morelle Cone Johnston.
Mr.  Johnson was a 1939 graduate of Palestine High School. He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving from September 1942 to 1945, and then with the Marines from 1950 to 1953. During his service to his country he earned numerous medals, including the Distinguished Flying Cross, Presidential Unit Citation, and the Navy Commendation Ribbon.
Mr.  Johnson graduated from Baylor Law School in 1954. He practiced law in Palestine from 1954 until his death.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Joan Johnston, in 1961; and a brother, Cone Johnston.
Mr.  Johnson is survived by sons, Robert David Johnston and James Hoyt Johnston, both of Palestine; a sister, Lillie Mathison of Palestine; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Jim Liles, Donald Seale, Raymond Dowdy, Guy Alford, Bascom Bentley, and Christopher Kolstad.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jack Schwab, Jim Crook, William George and members of the Anderson County Bar Association.
Condolence calls will be received from 6 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Jessie R. Wallace

Services for Jessie R. Wallace, 76, of Tyler, and formerly of Palestine, will be held under the direction of Herrington/ Land of Memory with Ross Dickerson officiating.
Mrs. Wallace died Thursday at East  Texas Medical Center in Tyler.
She was born Sept. 27, 1925 in Electra to Tom Smith and Lillie Mae Collins Smith.
Raised in Breckenridge, she lived in Palestine until she moved to Tyler two years ago.
Mrs. Wallace was member of the Westwood Baptist Church in Chandler. She was a housewife.
She was preceded in death by her husband, J. Brown Wallace, in 1990.
Mrs. Wallace is survived by sons, Jim Bob Wallace of Wichita Falls and John Paul Wallace of Seguin; daughter, Sondra Dickerson of Palestine; sisters, Lucile Heitt of Fort Worth and Ruby Squyers of Wellington; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Honorary pallbearers will be Amanda Wallace, Joel Wallace, Brian Wallace, Robert Wallace, Rose Dickerson and Jo Jo Dickerson.
Memorials may be made to the Palestine Christian School Library, 511 N. Sycamore, Palestine,  Texas 75801.

Lt. Col. Gwin Franklin Tackett

Services for Lt. Col. Gwin Franklin Tackett, 61, of Gaithersburg, Md., were held May 30 at Greenridge Baptist Church. Burial will be June 25 in Arlington National Cemetery.
Mr. Tackett died May 22 of a heart attack.
He was born Dec. 30, 1940 in Yazoo City, Miss.
Mr. Tackett was retired from the U.S. Army. He was a graduate of Mississippi College and the Air War College of New York. He held two master’s degrees. He was deputy brigade commander at Walter Reed Hospital during Desert Storm; operation officer at Fort Hamilton in New York; and held numerous Army achievement and commendation medals. He was a member of Greenridge Baptist Church in Clarksburg, Md.
Mr. Tackett was the outreach leader of the church’s men’s ministry. He was president of Mississippi College Alumni Association for many years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. P.A. Tackett Sr.; and a sister, Betty Skinner.
Mr. Tackett is survived by his wife, Judy Tackett; a son, Gwin “Chip” Tackett II; a daughter, Juliana Derbyshire of Warrington Cheshire, England; brothers, Pon Tackett of Palestine, Robert Tackett of Carrollton, Miss. and Marion Tackett of Sparta, Tenn.; sister, Lina Brown of Rudyard, Mont.; and two granddaughters.

Sheldon Dean Perkins

Services for Sheldon Dean Perkins, 57, of Dallas, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Muse Cemetery with the Rev. Benny Burlison officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey & Foster.
Mr. Perkins died Saturday at his residence.
He was born Aug. 13, 1944 in Quinter, Kan. to John Thomas and Rachel Adams Perkins.
Mr. Perkins was a postman. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the  Vietnam War. He was a member of Green Harvest Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Gary Dean Perkins, in 1999; and a brother, Delaine Perkins.
Mr. Perkins is survived by sisters, Mary Jo Trejo of Mineola, Brenda Jensen of Hutchinson, Kan. and Carolyn Wilk of Olathe, Kan.; and a brother, Delwin Perkins of Mineola.
Pallbearers will be Delwin Perkins, Tom Perkins, Tony Trejo Jr., Tony Trejo III, Tommy Kirk and Lloyd Jensen III.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of his Vietnam support group.
Condolence calls will be received from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Voncile Eloise Rister

Services for Voncile Eloise Rister, 76, of Palestine, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Chapel of the Air at Land of Memory Cemetery with the Rev. Theo  Johnson officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Herrington/Land of Memory Funeral Home.
Mrs. Rister died Tuesday at Cartmell Home for the Aged.
She was born Dec. 27, 1925, in Palestine to Arlie and Annis  Johnson Ritchey.
Mrs. Rister had lived in Palestine all of her life. She was a member of First Christian Church where she taught Sunday school and Bible school for many years. She was a 1942 graduate of Palestine High School and a graduate of Nixon Business College.
She worked many years at the General Office, was a teachers’ aide with Palestine Independent School District, and a housewife.
Mrs. Rister worked with the U.S.O. during World War II. She coached girl’s softball at the YMCA and was very active in PTA. She was a former secretary of the Palestine High School PTA.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon Rister, in 1979.
Mrs. Rister is survived by son, Coy Richard Rister of San Antonio; daughter, Lano Jo Rister of Palestine; and one sister.
Pallbearers will be nephews in the  Johnson and Rister family.
Honorary pallbearers will be her Gardner Drive neighbors.
Memorials may be made to First Christian Church; Montalba Christian Church; Hospice of East  Texas — Tyler; or to the Canine Society.

H.L. Wilbanks

Services for H.L. Wilbanks, 79, of Athens, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Caroll-Lehr Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Cecil Downing and Richard Palmer officiating. Burial will be in the Liberty Cemetery in Anderson County.
Mr. Wilbanks died Sunday in an Athens hospital.
He was born Oct. 2, 1922 in Lone Pine to Albert Thomas and Lillie Thornel Wilbanks.
Mr. Wilbanks was a resident of Athens for 34 years. He was a member of Sand Springs Baptist Church and Athens Masonic Lodge No. 165 AF & AM. He worked in commercial construction for 40 years before retiring from C.W. Berry Construction Co. in Tyler in 1987.
Mr. Wilbanks was preceded in death by a brother, Truitt Wilbanks; and sister, Ada Price.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mattie Costlow Wilbanks of Athens; son, Neil Wilbanks of Athens; daughter, Rebecca Wilbanks of Fairbanks, Alaska; sister, Zillah Buffalo of Palestine; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Tim Costlow, Kevin Costlow, Michael Costlow, Wayne Richardson, Steve Richardson and Orville Wilbanks.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Rev. Joe Smith, Howard Thomason, Bill Conway, Bill Harris, Kerry Harris and Kelly Harris.
Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 today at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to  Texas Baptist Home for Children, P.O. Box 309, Waxahachie,  Texas 75165.

Will Means

Funeral arrangements for Will Means of Teague are pending at Emanuel Funeral Home No. 2.
Mr. Means died early Monday morning at Parkview Regional Hospital in Mexia.

Odessa Hall Carr

Funeral arrangements for Odessa Hall Carr of Fresno,  Calif., and formerly of Palestine, are pending at Emanuel Funeral Home.
Mrs. Carr died Saturday in Fresno.

James C. Bunch

Funeral arrangements for James C. Bunch, 62, of Oakwood, and formerly of Houston, are pending at Bailey & Foster.
Mr. Bunch died this morning at Palestine Regional Medical Center.
