Rev. Lee David McNeal

Services for the Rev. Lee David McNeal, 73, of Emhouse, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Mount Olive Baptist Church in Tennessee Colony with the Rev. Billy Smith officiating. Burial will be in Jimmison Quarter Cemetery under the direction of Emanuel Funeral Home.
A wake will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at Mount Olive Baptist Church.
Rev. McNeal died Sunday at Navarro Regional Hospital in Corsicana.
He was born May 1, 1928 in Tift County, Georgia to Henry and Ruthie Williams McNeal.
Rev. McNeal received his education in Miami, Fla. at Booker T.  Washington High School. He was a member and ordained deacon at Mount Moriah Baptist Church. He became an ordained minister on July 10, 1964 at Greater Mission Baptist Church. He served as chairman of Zion Hill Association. He was a choral group singer in Miami and a member of Mount Moriah Baptist Church Choir. He was a member of Masonic Lodge in Miami.
He retired from Precision Hardware in Detroit as a foreman in 1992.
Rev. McNeal was preceded in death by six brothers and three sisters; a son, Glen McNeal; and a daughter, Loutricia McNeal.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years; Precious Smith McNeal of Emhouse; daughters, Shelia, Shirley and Deborah McNeal; sister, Lillie Mae Brooks of Savannah, Ga.; 13 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Edith Dominy

Funeral arrangements for Edith Dominy, 88, of Dallas, and formerly of Palestine, are pending at Bailey & Foster.
Mrs. Dominy died Wednesday at her residence. Condolence calls will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Joe Allen Hudgins

Services for Joe Allen Hudgins, 66, of Sioux City, Iowa, and formerly of Elkhart, are pending.
Mr. Hudgins died Saturday in Sioux City after a lengthy illness.
He was born April 16, 1936, in Nacogdoches to Walter O. and Beatrice Wedgeworth Hudgins.
Mr. Hudgins was a member of First Congregational Methodist Church of Elkhart. He had resided in Elkhart since 1974, before moving to Iowa.
He was preceded in death by eight sisters; four brothers; a son, David Allen; and grandsons, Michel Shawn and Joseph Allen.
Mr. Hudgins is survived by his wife of 45 years, Pat Hudgins of Sioux City; daughters, Deborah Thomas of Dutch Harbor, Ala. and Rhonda Coon of Sioux City; son, Kenneth Hudgins of Palestine; brothers, Alford Hudgins of Lone Star, E.F. “Slim” Hudgins of Saratoga and Frank Hudgins of Palestine; sisters, Louise Freeman of San Angelo, Clara Mittleman of Greensboro, N.C., Margie Starr of Palestine, Janie Norman of Crystal Lake and Barbara Coggin of San Antonio.

Ruby Raines Parrish

Services for Ruby Raines Parrish, 87, of Palestine, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Buffalo with the Revs. Rick Dees and Don  White officiating. Burial will be at Parker Cemetery in the Flo community.
Mrs. Parrish died Saturday at her residence.
She was born Aug. 17, 1914, in Buffalo to Will and Evalena Raines.
Mrs. Parrish was a member of Westwood Baptist Church in Palestine. She graduated high school in Corinth and Anderson County School of Cosmetology in Palestine. She was manager of the Dairy King in Buffalo and owner of M’Lady’s Beauty Shop in Buffalo before retirement.
Mrs. Parrish was preceded in death by her husband, A.P. “Buddy” Parish; son, A.P. Parrish; grandson, Derrick Roach; brothers, Bill Raines and Haynie Raines; and sisters, Irene  Jones and Annie Nora Wright.
She is survived by daughters, Parthena VanWey of Buffalo and Glenna Ellenburg of Palestine; sisters, Winnie Lamon of Palestine, Adeen McNiel of San Antonio, Bernice Bennett of Mexia and Ollie Kilgore of Buffalo; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Kent Raines, Willard Bennett, Jack McNiel, Bryan Jones, Bobbie Binnicker and Andre Schwab.
Condolence calls will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

William B. “Bill” Edwards Sr.

Services for William B. “Bill” Edwards Sr., 67, of Buffalo, were at 2 p.m. today at Buffalo Funeral Home in Buffalo with the Revs. Melvin Lowe and Mary Lowe officiating. Interment followed in the family cemetery .
Mr. Edwards died Friday at his residence.
He was born Oct. 29, 1934 in Spartemburg, S.C. to Nathan Charles and Dorothy Mae Case Edwards.
Mr. Edwards was employed by Gainey Transportation Services of Grand Rapids, Mich. as a truck driver for 48 years. He came to Buffalo from Mineral Wells in 1979. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was of a non-denominational faith.
He was preceded in death by two brothers.
Mr. Edwards is survived by his wife, Sheila Faye Edwards of Buffalo; sons, William B. Edwards Jr. and Keith B. Edwards, both of Roebuck, S.C., and Cassey C. Edwards of Buffalo; daughters, Cathy Hanna Harris of Minco, Okla., Samantha Waytt of Mesquite; and Hope Little of Grenada, Miss.; sisters, Juanita Codwell and Dot McGinn, both of Greenwood, S.C.; 13 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Hospital, I-240, Memphis, Tenn.

Ida Louise Smith Kothmann

Services for Ida Louise Smith Kothmann, 79, were at 1 p.m. today at Art United Methodist Church with the Rev. Leonard Foster officiating. Burial followed at Gooch Cemetery in Mason under the direction of Mason Funeral Home.
Mrs. Kothmann died Friday after a lengthy illness.
She was born Feb. 23, 1923, in Anderson County to Joseph and Freida Smith.
Mrs. Kothmann was a Methodist, a member of Art United Methodist Church and W.S.C.S. She married Andrew Kothmann on Oct. 19, 1945 in Houston. They lived their entire married life on the ranch in the Fly Gap area.
She was preceded in death by sister, Josephine Smith Kirkland.
Mrs. Kothmann is survived by her husband, of Art; son, Kenneth Kothmann of Mason; daughters, Judy Kothmann of Abilene and Sherry Clauson of Houston; brother, Joe Smith of Houston; sisters, Florence Moseley and Mildred Moseley, both of Palestine; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Kevin Kothmann, Brad Kothmann, Randall Clauson, Harvey Zesch, Tommy Reed and Larry Moseley.
If desired, memorials may be sent to Art United Methodist Church; the Gooch Cemetery Fund; or a charity of choice.

Marie McDonald

Services for Marie McDonald, 86, of Grapeland, were at 2 p.m. Sunday at Muse Baptist Church with the Rev. Max Smith officiating. Burial followed in Muse Cemetery under the direction of Bailey & Foster, Grapeland.
Mrs. McDonald died Friday at the Grapeland Nursing Center in Grapeland.
She was born Oct. 9, 1915 in Houston County to William  Jefferson  Jones and Canzada Oates Jones.
Mrs. McDonald was a member of the Sand Flat Baptist Church. She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, V.E. McDonald, in 2000.
Mrs. McDonald is survived by daughter, Joy Batts of Grapeland; sons, C.R. Chambers of Grapeland and Jerry D. Chambers of Dobbin; stepson, Barry McDonald of Humble; sister, Ruth Wooten of Dallas; 18 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.
Grandsons served as pallbearers.

Marjorie H. Broyles

Services for Marjorie H. Broyles, 98, of Palestine will be at 10 a.m. this morning at the Chapel of the Air at Land of Memory Cemetery with the Rev. Tom Grissom officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Herrington/Land of Memory.
Mrs. Broyles died Wednesday at Greebrier Nursing Center.
She was born Nov. 12, 1903, in Mexia to Sam and Lula Broadnaux Henderson.
Mrs. Broyles lived in Palestine most of her life. She was a lifelong member of Grace United Methodist Church. She was a housewife and a member of the Poetry Society in Palestine for many years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Walter B. Broyles in 1957; four brothers and one sister.
She is survived by sons, Walter B. Broyles, Jr. of Flint and Dan W. Broyles of Conroe; daughter, Nanette Byrd of Jacksonville; sisters, Billy Gusset of Austin and Dixie Gault of Lufkin; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Memorials can be made in her name to the building fund of Grace United Methodist Church located at 209 W. Kolstad, Palestine, TX 75801.

John R. O’Keefe

Services for John R. O’Keefe, 82, of Nacogdoches and formerly of Palestine, will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Bailey & Foster Chapel with Deacon Alex Kobar officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Park. Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey & Foster, Palestine.
Mr. O’Keefe died Friday at Nacogdoches Medical Center.
He was born Nov. 15, 1919 in Buffalo to Jesse Lee and Effie Page O’Keefe.
Mr. O’Keefe was a school teacher and taught for 34 years in the Palestine Independent School District. He was a life member of the PTA and TSTA. He was a member of the VFW Post 3907 and served as a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Bertha Thesera Francoeur in 1999; and sisters, Mattie Batson, Cleo Simon and Doris Dickey.
Mr. O’Keefe is survived by his daughter, Kitty  Jones of Nacogdoches; sister, Dale Key of Rosharon; brother, J. D. O’Keefe of Pasadena; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Condolence calls will be tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Juanita M. Mason

Services for Juanita M. Mason, 73, of Palestine, will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Palestine City Cemetery with the Rev. Mac Martin officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Herrington/Land of Memory Funeral Home.
Mrs. Mason died Thursday at Palestine Regional Medical Center.
She was born Oct. 27, 1928, in Palestine to Oliver and Irene Smith Unger.
Mrs. Mason was a Baptist. She was a bookkeeper and had operated an antique shop in Palestine for several years. She was reared in Palestine and had lived in the Houston and Beaumont areas.
She is survived by her husband, Lewis R. Mason; son, Bo Mason of Palestine; daughter, Brenda Joyce of Baytown; brothers, Bob Unger and Oliver Unger, both of Waco, and Douglas Unger of Silsbee; sister, Frances Evans of Palestine; and one grandchild.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Bonnie Kay Stephenson

Funeral arrangements for Bonnie Kay Stephenson, 44, of Palestine, are pending at Bailey & Foster.
Miss Stephenson died Friday morning at Greenbrier Nursing Home in Palestine.
Iola Cook

Services for Iola Cook, 82, will be at 1 p.m. today at New Fellowship Christian Church with the Revs. Vernon C.  Jackson and Norvie Cottingham officiating. Burial will follow at Bluff Springs Cemetery in Elkhart under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Mrs. Cook died Friday at Medical Center in Lancaster.
She was born April 30, 1920, in Elkhart to Crockett and Lelar Mosley Davis.
Mrs. Cook attended school at Cedar Branch, County Line and Boxie Creek. She united with Fulton Street Christian Church which later was named New Fellowship. She was the church mother and an usher for many years. She was a homemaker, midwife and seamstress.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Fred Lee Cook, on May 16, 1985; son, Fred L. Cook Jr.; brothers, Levard Davis, Woodrow Davis and Warren Davis; and two great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Cook is survived by daughter, Celestine Cook Morrison of Dallas; sons, Elbert L. Cook of Palestine, Frank J. Cook and John L. Cook, both of Dallas; brother, Willie Sam Davis of Palestine; 18 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Active pallbearers will be Rodney B. Cole, Lynwood Cook, Morris Cook, Jim Evans, Clinton R. Morrison and Kevin L. Morrison.
Honorary pallbearers will be grandsons and great-grandsons.

Charlie W. Davis

Services for Charlie W. Davis, 94, of Palestine, will be at 1 p.m. today at Bailey & Foster Chapel with the Revs. Bill Sheffield and Dean Easterling officiating. Burial will follow in Chambers Cemetery.
Mr. Davis died Thursday night at Spring Seasons in Elkhart.
He was born June 5, 1908, in Palestine to Joseph William and Myra Denson Davis.
Mr. Davis was a self-employed carpenter. He was a member of Walston Springs Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and former Sunday school superintendent.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Thomas Davis.
Mr. Davis is survived by his wife of 70 years, Mary Holmes Davis of Palestine; children, Joyce Ray and Virginia Walker, both of Palestine, Wayne Davis of Jacksonville, Dub Davis of Elkhart and Larry Davis of Palestine; sister, Mildred Malone of Palestine; nine grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Terry Walker, Randy Walker, Kevin Davis, Phillip Davis, Lane Davis, Heath Martin, Jackie Ford and Bryson Bean.
Honorary pallbearers will be Nathan Keel and Bill Grant.

Morris Jordan ‘Bud’ Sammons

Funeral arrangements for Morris Jordan “Bud” Sammons, 90, of Palestine are pending at Bailey & Foster.
Mr. Sammons died Friday afternoon at Palestine Regional Medical Center.

Eddie Q. Self

Services for Eddie Q. Self, 44, of Lake  Jackson will be at 2 p.m. Monday at New Haven Missionary Baptist Church.
Mr. Self died Dec. 16 at his home.
He is survived by his wife, Dorthy Ellis Self of Jacksonville; sons, William Brian Holman of Palestine, Quinnton R. Self of Jacksonville; stepchildren, Ellen Ellis, James Ellis and Tony Ellis; and brothers, Billy H. Self and Ray L. Self, both of Palestine.
