Mrs. Ashley died Wednesday at Memorial Hospital in Lufkin.
James Brown

Funeral arrangements for James Brown, 78, of Athens, are pending at Foster & Brown Funeral Home, Athens.
Mr. Brown died Thursday in Athens.

William Thomas “Tommy” Grigsby

Funeral arrangements for William Thomas “Tommy” Grigsby, 84, of Elkhart, are pending at Bailey & Foster.
Mr. Grigsby died Wednesday afternoon at Spring Season of Elkhart.

David Killgo

Services for David Killgo, 44, of Elkhart, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Bailey & Foster Chapel with the Rev. Howard Huhn officiating. Burial will follow in Star Cemetery.
Mr. Killgo died Monday at his residence.
He was born March 30, 1958 in Big Springs to James Artis Killgo and Marcelene Curry Walding.
Mr. Killgo attended the Tabernacle Baptist Church. He graduated from Elkhart High School in 1976 and was employed for 26 years at Vulcraft in Grapeland.
Mr. Killgo was preceded in death by his father; and a brother, Paul Johnson.
He is survived by his wife of five years, Andrea Martinez Killgo of Elkhart; his mother of Elkhart; stepfather, Jay Walding of Elkhart; and a son, Trent Wayne Killgo of Lebanon, Ore.
Pallbearers will be Ruben Gutierrez, Richard Spencer, Rudy Luna Jr., Simplicio Chapa, Rudy Luna Sr., Wayne Curry and Dobie  Schmidt.
Honorary pallbearers will be employees at Vulcraft.
Condolence calls will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Gladys Ferreira

Services for Gladys Ferreira, 84, of Palestine, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Hurley Funeral Home in Pleasanton. Burial will be in Rutledge Cemetery in Poteet.
Mrs. Ferreira died Monday in Palestine.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, James Strahan; and her second husband, John L. Ferreira.
Mrs. Ferreira is survived by a daughter, Elizabeth Louise Blackshear of Frankston; sons, Thomas David Strahan of Levelland and Samuel Wayne Strahan of Fort Worth; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren- and one great-great-grandchild.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Johnnie Tillery

Funeral arrangements for Johnnie Tillery, 66, of Palestine, are pending at Bailey & Foster.
Mrs. Tillery died Tuesday at Cartmell Home for Aged.

Junior Stene Brown

Services for Junior Stene Brown, 60, will be at noon Saturday at Haynes Chapel Church of God in Christ in Dallas with the Rev. Joe Turner Sr. officiating. A wake will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the church.
Arrangements are under the direction of Lomax Funeral Home of Dallas.
Mr. Brown died Saturday at Baylor Hospital in Dallas.
He was born Feb. 12, 1942, in Tennessee Colony.
Mr. Brown graduated from the Massey Lake High School in Tennessee Colony in 1960. He began his employment with Curtis Mathis Manufacturing Co. of Athens and worked as a truck driver with various companies.
He is survived by his wife, Iris Gail Brown; parents, Lynn and Vernia Brown of Palestine; sons, Steve, Dewayne and Sidney; daughters, Linda Brown Nelson and Latrine Brown Andrews; three brothers and one sister.

Johnnie Jean Wright

Funeral arrangements for Johnnie Jean Wright, 67, of Crockett, are pending at Emanuel Funeral Home, Crockett.
Mrs. Wright died Sunday in Houston.

Elton Brimberry

Funeral arrangements for Elton Brimberry of Grapeland are pending at Bailey & Foster, Grapeland.
Mr. Brimberry died today in Houston.

Edna Elizabeth Owens

Funeral arrangements for Edna Elizabeth Owens, 95, of Midland, and formerly of Grapeland, are pending at Bailey & Foster, Grapeland.
Mrs. Owens died Tuesday at Stanton Care Center.

Rev. Henry Vincent

Funeral arrangements for the Rev. Henry Vincent, 74, of Palestine, are pending at Bailey & Foster.
The Rev. Vincent died today at his home.

Theora Patricia Angton

Services for Theora Patricia Angton, 58, of Palestine, will be at 1 p.m. Friday at South Union Baptist Church with the Revs. Donald R. Lacy and Eric Lacy officiating. Burial will be in Fort Houston Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Mrs. Angton died Friday at Palestine Regional Medical Center.
She was born Feb. 20, 1944 in Palestine to Matthew and Lucille Trounds Arthur. She graduated from A.M. Story High School in 1962. She was a member of West Union Baptist Church. She served the church in various capacities.
Mrs. Angton was preceded in death by her mother; and a sister, Barbara McChristian.
She is survived by her husband of 38 years, Harvey Angton Sr.; her father of Athens; daughters, Paula Angton of Palestine; sons, Harvey Angton Jr. of Lufkin, Rodney Angton Sr., Jeffrey Angton, Eric Angton, Kevin Angton and Keith Angton, all of Palestine; sisters, Lula Mae Young of Desoto, Iris Demar of Arlington and Nedra Birdow of Palestine; and 11 grandchildren.
Active pallbearers will be nephews and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be Michael Birdow, L.C. Brown, James Curry, John McChristian and Van Turner.

Cherry Rice Mitchell

Funeral arrangements for Cherry Rice Mitchell, 41, of Fort Worth, and formerly of Palestine, are pending at McCoy Funeral Home. Mrs. Mitchell died Tuesday in Fort Worth. She was the wife of former Herald-Press reporter Mitch Mitchell.

Arthur LaVerne Bishop

Services for Arthur LaVerne Bishop, 65, of Houston, will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Bailey & Foster Chapel with the Rev. Chuck Bratz officiating. Burial will follow in Pilgrim Cemetery.
Mr. Bishop died Monday.
He was born Feb. 17, 1937 in Palestine to Jesse Bishop and Una Cooper Bishop.
Mr. Bishop was preceded in death by his father.
He is survived by his wife, Anita Bishop of Houston; his mother of Elkhart; and daughters, Janya Bishop and Jeanie Myers, both of Houston.
The family will receive condolence calls from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Pat H. Foley Funeral Home, 1200 W. 34th Street in Houston.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or the Multiple Sclerosis Society.

James Mayo Arnold

Funeral arrangements for James Mayo Arnold, 73, of Pert, will be announced later by Bailey & Foster Funeral Home.
Mr. Arnold died Friday at his residence.
He was born Dec. 7, 1928 in Kansas City, Mo. to Archibald and Lela McAdoo Arnold.
Mr. Arnold was an accountant and served in the U.S. Air Force.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jane Riedel Arnold.
Mr. Arnold is survived by a daughter, Patti Hartman of Houston; sons, Scott Arnold of Katy and Mark Arnold of California; and one grandchild.

Dr. John Edward Evans

Services for Dr. John Edward Evans, 77, of Montalba, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Philip’s Episcopal Church with the Rev. Mike Glenn officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Herrington/Land of Memory Funeral Home.
Dr. Evans died Tuesday at Palestine Regional Medical Center.
He was born July 14, 1925, in Sisseton, S.D. to the Rev. Leif Erling Evans and Mabel Florence Johnston Evans.
Dr. Evans was reared in Sisseton and later moved to Bemidji, Minn. He lived in Houston before retiring to Montalba.
He graduated from high school in Bemidji, and completed his Bachelor of Arts degree at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. He received a Master’s degree at the University of South Dakota and a Ph.D. degree in Microbiology at King’s College, University of London.
Dr. Evans was a tenured professor and researcher at the University of Houston for 34 years, retiring in 1992. He was a member of a number of professional societies, and spent his personal funds freely to keep an extensive library of booksand journals for his students’ use. He received numerous grants for his support of the graduate students and the research carried on in his laboratory.
He was active in church throughout his life and a member of St. Philip’s Episcopal Church in Palestine.
Dr. Evans served in the U.S. Navy in the Asiatic Theater during World War Ii from 1942 to 1946.
He published “Memories of Another Time,” a book of poetry, illustrated by a former shipmate, recording his thoughts of his military years. He wrote four plus volumes titled “A View from the Hill.” He was a Rotary Foundation Fellow, a National Institutes of Health Fogarty Senior International Fellow, and a Nato Senior Scientist. Luther College honored him with a Distinguished Service Award in 1991.
Dr. Evans was preceded in death by his brother, Dick Evans.
He is survived by his wife, Joann Evans of Montalba; sons, John Evans of Montalba and Tim Evans of Houston; daughter, Kirsten Knippers of Tennessee Colony; sister, Kathryn Barks of Des Moines; and two grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Travis Williams, Ted Maffitt, Jack Chase, Don Gordan, George Baldwin and James Parker.
Memorials may be made to the Dr. John E. Evans Scholarship Fund at Trinity Valley Community College, Palestine, or to the Dr. John E. Evans Scholarship Fund in Decorah, Iowa.

Charlie Walker

Funeral arrangements for Charlie Walker are pending at Davis Funeral Home in Palestine.
Mr. Walker died Friday at Galveston hospital.

Arzie Mae  Jones Morrow

Services for Arzie Mae  Jones Morrow, 88, of Houston will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Victory in Jesus Evangelistic Center in Houston with the Rev. Johnnie Lee Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Magnolia Cemetery in Palestine under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.

Mrs. Morrow died Friday in a Houston hospital.

She was born Sept. 9, 1914 in Atlanta, Ga. to William Henry  Jones and Mary Armstrong Jones.

Mrs. Morrow retired after working many years in hospitals as a licensed nurse. She was a member of Victory in Jesus Evangelistic Center.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Chauncey K. Morrow Sr.

Pallbearers will be the deacons of the church.

Honorary pallbearers will be Alfred Morrow, C.K. Morrow Jr., Oquien Morrow, Commodore Payne and Ranford L. Williams.

Victory in Jesus Evangelistic Center is located at 4740 West Orem Drive in Houston.

Zona Mae Russell

Services for Zona Mae Russell, 72, of Palestine will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Herrington/Land of Memory Chapel with the Revs. Perry  Jones and Mike Moore officiating. Burial will follow in Guiceland Cemetery.

Mrs. Russell died Saturday at a Palestine nursing home.

She was born May 27, 1930 in Houston County to Hub and Ella Gaines Starkey.
Mrs. Russell lived in Elkhart, Grapeland and Palestine. She was a member of Salmon Missionary Baptist Church.

Mrs. Russell was co-owner and operator of the Kozy Korner Beauty Shop and also worked for many years at an Elkhart nursing home.

She was preceded in death by husbands, L.B. Wilbanks and Jake Russell; sisters, Louetta Waller, Jessie Young and Edwena Prater; and brothers Hubbard Starkey and Harold Starkey.

Mrs. Russell is survived by a sister, Ruth Holt of Palestine; two grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Jerry Starkey, Don Starkey, Brian Willis, Raymond Ray, Chris Hall and Brian Saltzman.

Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of East  Texas.
