Era Elizabeth York

Services for Era Elizabeth York, 88, of Fairfield, were held at Ricks-Bowers Chapel in Teague on Oct. 13 with Paul Gauntt presiding.
Mrs. York died Oct. 11 at Fairview Manor Nursing Home in Fairfield.
She was born on May 5, 1914 in Freestone County.
Mrs. York was a lifetime resident of Freestone County. She was a homemaker and a Baptist.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Oliver York; daughter, Naomi Dee York; three sisters; and a brother.
She is survived by son, Lee York of Fairfield; daughter, Ann Webb of Cayuga; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Curtis Carroll, W.C. Barger, Rayford Barger, Carl Whitten, Rayford Dunlap and Roger Brooke.

J.R. Ivins

Services for J.R. Ivins, 79, of Palestine will be at 3 p.m. Sunday in Bailey & Foster Chapel with the Rev. Rick Dees officiating. Burial will be in the Neches City Cemetery.
Mr. Ivins died Thursday at Cartmell Home for Aged.
He was born Nov. 18, 1922, in Neches to William Walter Ivins and Mary Alma Roe Ivins.
Mr. Ivins was a member of the Westwood Baptist Church and the Woodmen of the World. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a clerk for the U.S. Postal Service for 27 years.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Marvin L. Ivins, in 1999; sisters, Ethylene Griffith, Alene Walding and Iris Tingle; and brother, Wilford Ivins.
Mr. Ivins is survived by his wife, Connie Yates Ivins of Neches; daughter, Sheila Ivins Prestridge of Palestine; sons, J.R. Ivins Jr. of Clovis, N.M. and Ernie Ivins of Frankston; sisters, Oleta Homan of Lousiana and Wanda Porter of Houston; brothers, Hub Ivins of  Louisiana, Rand Ivins of Neches and Ewell Ivins of Nederland; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Pallbearers will be Chris Little, Steve Prestridge, Heath Ivins, Lance Ivins, Carl Ivins and Tom Lucenay. Honorary pallbearers will be Becky Prestridge Little, Amanda Marie Ivins, J.L. Parkman, Walter Ivins, Wayne  Taylor and Ted Lucenay.
Condolence calls will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Lois Mock

Services for Lois Mock, 87, of Palestine are pending and will be announced later by Bailey & Foster.
Mrs. Mock died Friday afternoon at Palestine Regional Medical Center.

Marvin Lee “Sonny” Watson Jr.

Services for Marvin Lee “Sonny” Watson Jr., 69, of Fairfield, will be at 2 p.m. today at Calvary Baptist Church of Fairfield with Dr. Charles H. York, the Rev. Jim Gooch and Ralph Billings officiating.
Mr. Watson died Thursday at Trinity Mother Frances Hospital in Tyler.
He graduated from Fairfield High School in 1950 and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. He retired from  Texas Parks & Wildlife after 32 years and was a rancher. He served as master of Fairfield Masonic Lodge No. 103 for two years and as district deputy during his 50-year membership. He also held membership in the Scottish Rite Chapter & Council, York Rite. He was a member of the Fairfield Volunteer Fire Department for 25 years and served as chief for six years. He also was a lifetime member of the Fairfield VFW Post 5872.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Barbara Morris.
Mr. Watson is survived by is survived by his wife of 45 years, Joyce Watson; sister, Joyce Bonner of Fairfield; brother, John Watson of Houston; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Dr. John H. Keller, Gary Robinson, Warren Awalt, Rossie Pye, Ben Callaway, Gene Wilson, Jesse Earl  Jones and Steve James.
Honorary pallbearers will be employees of the  Texas Parks & Wildlife.

Evelyn Casey Floyd

Services for Evelyn Casey Floyd, 69, of Alderbranch, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Providence Cemetery with the Rev. D.O. Conditt. Arrangements are under the direction of Herrington/Land of Memory Funeral Home.

Mrs. Floyd died Friday at Palestine Regional Medical Center.

She was born Oct. 13, 1933 in Teague to Homer Earl and Ruth Lee Raines Casey.
Mrs. Floyd lived her entire life in Anderson County.

She was a member of Swanson Hill Community Church and a homemaker.
Mrs. Floyd was preceded in death by a son, James Carroll Floyd.

She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Wilbur “Bill” Floyd of Alderbranch; sons, John Floyd of Alderbranch, Casey Floyd and Clifton “Tip” Floyd, both of Elkhart; sister, Ann Pardee of Dallas; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Jim Bishop, Oscar Starr, Darren Farley, Lawrence Robinson, Jesse Sarminto and John Alexander.

Honorary pallbearers will be Billy G. Patrick and Chet Wendell.

Georgia A. Marshall

Funeral arrangements for Georgia A. Marshall, 90, are pending at McCoy Funeral Home.

Mrs. Marshall died Saturday at Greenbrier Nursing and Rehab Center.

Etta Lou Graves

Funeral arrangements for Etta Lou Graves, 88, of Palestine, are pending at Bailey & Foster.

Mrs. Graves died Saturday at her home.

H.E. “Shorty” McKay

Services for H.E. “Shorty” McKay, 75, of Grapeland, will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Felders Chapel Assembly of God in Grapeland with the Rev. Randy Shipman officiating. Burial will be in Refuge Cemetery in Houston County under the direction of Bailey & Foster, Grapeland.

Mr. McKay died Friday at  Whitehall Nursing Center in Crockett.

He was born May 10, 1927 in Beth Eden, Miss. to Bestus McKay and Eva Sue Kinard McKay.

Mr. McKay was a member of Felders Chapel Assembly of God Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a heavy equipment mechanic.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Ellis Leon McKay.

Mr. McKay is survived by sons, Kenneth Wayne McKay of Frisco and Jeffery Howard McKay of Crosby; sisters, Annie Bess Todd of Louisville, Miss., Nell Humphries of Harrison, Tenn., and Marie Prisock of Jackson, Miss.; a brother, O.D. McKay of Louisville, Miss.; and five grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Randy Sick, Steve Owens, Jack Shoultz, Terry Owens, Wes Lanston and Woody Woodall.

Condolences will be received from 4 to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Jason DeWayne Conley

Services for Jason DeWayne Conley, 22, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Providence Baptist Church in Montalba with the Revs. Jesse  Johnson and Michael Thompson officiating. Burial will follow in Providence Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.

Mr. Conley died Friday at his home.
He was born March 16, 1980 in Palestine to John and Evanger  Jackson Conley.

Mr. Conley attended Palestine schools. In 2002 he was enrolled in Gary Job Corps in San Marcos. He attended House of Prayer Church in Athens.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, J.T. and Myrtie Conley and Isaac and Pearla Mae Jackson.

Mr. Conley is survived by his mother of Tennessee Colony and his father of Montalba; sisters, Michele Conley of Palestine and Amanda Lewis of Tennessee Colony; brothers, Floyd Conley of Indiana, Jonathan Conley and Justin Conley, both of Tennessee Colony, and Jeremy Conley of Palestine.

Pallbearers will be Donald Barrett, Gerald Barrett, Joseph Jones, Terrence Lewis, Richard Swanson and Paul Williams.
Honorary pallbearers will be Ben Stevens and Demetrius Twine.

Geraldine Dixon

Services for Geraldine Dixon, 76, of Fairfield, were at 2 p.m. today at Bethany Cemetery in Spring Hill, Ark. Arrangements were under the direction of Capps Memorial Chapel of Fairfield.
Mrs. Dixon died Tuesday in Fairfield.
She was born Jan. 5, 1927, in Arkansas to Otis and Rebecca Murray.

Mrs. Dixon was an apartment manager and a Baptist.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Dixon; daughter, Penny Jo Dixon; and one grandchild.

Mrs. Dixon is survived by her daughter, Brenda Nell Dixon of Athens; sisters, Darlene Hogue of Overton and Melba Joan Spencer of New London; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Elva Barton Thornton

Services for Elva Barton Thornton, 88, of Athens, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church of Athens with the Rev. James F. Bond and Dr. Kyle Henderson officiating. Burial will follow in Judson Cemetery in Cayuga under the direction of Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home of Athens.
Mrs. Thornton died Tuesday at East  Texas Medical Center of Athens.

She was born Dec. 12, 1914, in Cayuga to Richard Earnest and Jewel Vesta Harton Barton.

Mrs. Thornton graduated from high school in Palestine, attended East  Texas Baptist College in Marshall and Sam Houston State Teachers College in Huntsville. She resided in Midland from 1951 to 1965 and in Houston from 1965 to 1969. She moved to Athens in 1970.

She was a member of First Baptist Church of Athens where she taught Sunday School and was the director of Women’s Missionary Union. She was a genealogist and historian.

Mrs. Thornton was preceded in death by her husband, C.L. “Ted” Thornton; an infant son; and grandson, Clark Thornton.
She is survived by sons, C.L. Thornton Jr. of Streetman and Richard Darrell Thornton of Athens; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Bill Cogdell, Ricky Simmons, David Hull, David Kelley, Dr. Bob Foster and Osborne Williams.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. David Bowles, Leroy Barton and C.W. Harton.
Visitation will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. tonight at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Judson Cemetery Association, 780 ACR 492, Athens,  Texas, 75751; or Judson Baptist Church, Cayuga,  Texas, 75832.

Betty Ann Speed

Services for Betty Ann Speed, 45, of Abilene, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church of Fairfield with the Rev. Mack Roller officiating.
Interment will follow at Lake Chapel Cemetery outside of Fairfield under the direction of Capps Memorial Chapel of Fairfield.

Mrs. Speed died Sunday at Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas.

She was born Aug. 18, 1957, in Fairfield to William Robert and Bessie Speed.

Mrs. Speed was preceded in death by her father; and brother, Bobby Speed.

She is survived by her mother, Bessie Speed; sisters, Jeanette Stark, Patsy Stark, Dixie Watson, Donna Kay Bishop, Carolyn Stark and Mary Stark; brothers, Robert Glen Speed, Jerry Speed and Johnny Speed; foster mother, Beverly Westbrook; foster sisters, Linda  Johnson and Tina Benefield; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Randy Stark, Robert Glen Speed II, Michael Speed, Matthew Stark, William Stark and Anthony Stark.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Henry Harvey Walker Sr.

Services for Henry Harvey Walker Sr., 67, of Palestine, were at 11:30 a.m. today at Magnolia Cemetery with the Rev. Ken Andrews officiating.

Mr. Walker died Monday at his home.
He was born June 26, 1935 in Anderson County to Henry Roy and Mary Ann Heath Walker.

Mr. Walker was a loader and worked for William George produce for many years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Ann Ima Parker Walker.

He is survived by a son, Harvey Walker Jr. of Palestine; sister, Elizabeth Lambert of Palestine; and brother, Leroy Walker of Palestine.
