Alvis William Norton
Services for Alvis William Norton, 80, of Elkhart, will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Westside Assembly of God with the Rev. Larry Tilmon officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Herrington/Land of Memory Funeral Home.
Mr. Norton died Saturday at Palestine Regional Medical Center.
He was born Feb. 1, 1922 in Clay City, Ill. to William and Oddia Norton.
Mr. Norton was a retired painter. He was a member of Westside Assembly of God. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans.
He is survived by daughters, Phyllis Lathrop of Palestine and Avis Easley of Tennessee; son, Charles Norton of Illinois; sister, Wilma Dunlap of Illinois; half-brother, Jim Norton of Illinois; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Littleton Sharpe
Services for Littleton Sharpe, 78, of Tennessee Colony, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Tennessee Colony Church with Barry Roberts officiating. He was cremated.
Mr. Sharpe died Tuesday at Palestine Regional Medical Center in Palestine.
He was born Sept. 22, 1924 in Alton, Ga. to Milton and Ida Sharpe. He was the owner of Chuck Wagon for more than 15 years.
Mr. Sharpe is survived by his wife, Sandra Lee Power Sharpe of Tennessee Colony; sons, Tom Sharpe of Grand Junction, Colo., Brian Noble and Alan Noble, both of Allen, and Mike Noble of Illinois; a daughter, Elizabeth Sharpe Overman of Jackson, Miss.; brother, Hurb Sharpe of Durango, Colo.; and a host of grandchildren.
Douglas L. Parsons
Funeral arrangements for Douglas L. Parsons, 85, of Palestine, are pending at Herrington/Land of Memory.
Mr. Parsons died Wednesday night at his home.
Janie Sustaita
Funeral arrangements for Janie Sustaita, 89, of Palestine, are pending at Earthman Funeral Home in Houston.
Mrs. Sustaita died this morning at Hospice Home Place in Tyler.
Tomy C. “Popeye” Wilson
Services for Tomy C. “Popeye” Wilson, 54, of Goodrich, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Huntsville Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Dodge Cemetery.
Mr. Wilson died Monday in Cleveland.
He was born April 1, 1948 in Huntsville.
Mr. Wilson was a U.S. Army veteran who earned a Purple Heart for his service during the Vietnam War. He was a construction worker.
He was preceded in death by his father, David Wilson; and grandparents, Charlie and Devilla Fourney and Willie and Hattie Wilson.
Mr. Wilson is survived by his mother, Loretta Wilson; sons, William “Billy” Wilson and Tomy A. “Andy” Wilson; daughter, Frances Ann Wilson; brothers, Tony Wilson, Jay Wilson and David Lee Wilson Jr.; and eight grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be William Wilson, Gary Fountain, Charlie Hill, Tommy Marshall, Bobby Baker and Steve Haynes.
Honorary pallbearer will be Larry Flourney.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Ernest Brown
Services for Ernest Brown, 78, of Grapeland, will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Church of Christ in Grapeland with Allen Sowders officiating. Burial will follow in Guiceland Cemetery under the direction of Bailey & Foster, Grapeland.
Mr. Brown died Wednesday at Palestine Regional Medical Center.
He was born Dec. 9, 1923, in Houston County to John Benjaman Kaiser Brown and Jane Carter Brown.
Mr. Brown was a self-employed farmer and rancher. He was a member of the Church of Christ of Grapeland. He served in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Nora Carnes Brown; sister, Rosa Lea Blackmon; and brother, L.C. Brown.
Mr. Brown is survived by brothers, Arthur Brown of Grapeland and Zack Brown of Alvin.
Nephews will serve as pallbearers.

Essie Beatrice Barrett Bishop
Services for Essie Beatrice Barrett Bishop, 68, of Houston, and formerly of Palestine, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Bethel AME Church in Palestine. Burial will be in Jerusalem Cemetery in Palestine.
There will be a wake from 6 to 9 p.m. today at First Baptist Church of Green Bayou in Houston.
Arrangements are under the direction of Robinson’s Community Funeral Home, Jasper.
Ms. Bishop is survived by her mother, Tenise Wilson of Palestine; sons, Cardell Jerkins, Clyde Jerkins, Rudy Jerkins, and Johnny Jerkins, all of Houston; daughters, Glenda O’Neal of Longview, Princella Smith, Thelma Gardiner, Erma Jerkins, Wanda Jerkins, Barbara Edmonson, all of Houston; brothers, Frank Barrett Jr. and Johnny Barrett, both of Houston, and Clint Barrett of Dallas; 30 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Willie Mae Smith
Services for Willie Mae Smith, 51, of Houston, and formerly of Palestine, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at New Canaan Baptist Church with the Rev. Dennis Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Price Cemetery under the direction of Emanuel Funeral Home.
A wake will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. tonight.
Ms. Smith died Tuesday in Palestine.
She was born July 16, 1950 in Palestine to Johnnie Marie Smith.
Ms. Smith attended Palestine ISD. She graduated from Palestine High School, and attended Prairie View A&M University, Texas Women’s University and Texas Southern University.
She received a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in nursing and education. She had credentials in fashion designing and food preparation. She was employed by Houston ISD, Herman Hospital for 20 years, and for Silver Spring Nursing Home.
Ms. Smith was a member of New Canaan Baptist Church. She later attended Holman Street Baptist Church in Houston. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
She is survived by a son, Randy Smith of Houston; her mother, Johnnie Marie Smith; brothers, Robert Smith and the Rev. Dennis Smith, both of Palestine, and Darryl Smith of Houston; sister, Jackson Simon; and one granddaughter.
Susan Cody Dunlap
Services for Susan Cody Dunlap, 88, of Oakwood, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Bailey & Foster Chapel with the Revs. Ron Hill and Barney Walker officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood City Cemetery under the direction of Bailey & Foster.
Mrs. Dunlap died Wednesday afternoon at Spring Seasons of Elkhart.
She was born Nov. 8, 1913 in Tennessee to John Mitchell Cody and Florence Idora Hill Cody.
Mrs. Dunlap was a homemaker and member of the Congregational Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard G. Dunlap, in 1988; and sister, Ellen LeFlore.
Mrs. Dunlap is survived by daughters, Myrtle Hamilton of Elkhart, Doreene Shay of Sulpher, La., Fay Smith of Oakwood; sons, Gene Dunlap of Wylie, Dwayne Dunlap of Slidell, La., and Raymond Dunlap of Elkhart.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Irene Bailey

Mrs. Bailey died Wednesday at East Texas Medical Center in Tyler.
She was born March 15, 1927 in Freestone County.
Mrs. Bailey was a homemaker and a member of Fairfield Christian Center.
She is survived by daughters, Mary Allen of Athens, Brenda Hampton of Jacksonville and Linda Caldwell of Palestine; sons, Don Bailey of Palestine and John Bailey of Corsicana; sisters, Lela Ward and Louise Graham, both of Fairfield; 10 grandchildren; and four great- grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Michael Grasty, Clayton Churchman, Dustin Churchman, Patrick Bailey, Matthew Hampton, Chip Silvey and Chris Cox.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Bobby G. Anderson
Services for Bobby G. Anderson, 63, of Elkhart, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Elkhart Church of Christ with Perry Jones officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey & Foster.
Mr. Anderson died Monday night at his home.
He was born May 9, 1939 in McGregor to Marshal Albert and Collie Riley Anderson.
Mr. Anderson was an optician for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. He was a Christian.
Mr. Anderson was preceded in death by his father; and three brothers, Junior Anderson, Jake Anderson and Billy Joe Anderson.
He is survived by his wife, Annie Chapman Anderson of Elkhart; his mother, Collie Riley Anderson of Elkhart; son, Bobby Wayne Anderson of Port Lavaca; sisters, Lillian Beaird, Lula Wilson, Mary Irwin, and Martha Callaway, all of Elkhart, and Barbara Pilkington of Grapeland; brothers, Albert Anderson of Tyler, Roy Anderson, Tillman Anderson, Robert Anderson and Morgan Anderson, all of Palestine; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Mrs. Honeycutt died Wednesday at Cartmell Home for Aged.
She was born July 13, 1920 in Pittsburg to R.C. and Maggie Laney Griffith.
Mrs. Honeycutt graduated from Elkhart High School and was a retired nurse working for 40 years at Memorial Hospital. She was a member of Long Lake Baptist Church.
Mrs. Honeycutt was preceded in death by her husband, W.D. Honeycutt, in 1976; brothers, Earl Griffith and Albert Griffith.
She is survived by her sons, Robert David Honeycutt and Kenneth Ray Honeycutt, both of Palestine; sisters, Christine Dancer, Mildred Boyer, Hazel Hamby and Dorothy Gentry, all of Elkhart; two grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
