Artie Clardy

Services for Artie Clardy, 93, of Jewett, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Bailey & Foster Chapel. Burial will follow in Broyles Chapel Cemetery.
Mrs. Clardy died Saturday at Madison St. Joseph Health Center in Madisonville.
She was born Aug. 15, 1909 in Gains, Okla. to Sam and Mattie Weaver Lee.
Mrs. Clardy was a homemaker and member of the Assembly of God Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel B. Clardy; sons, Harvey Lee Clardy and Nealy Edward Clardy; daughter, Katherine Benoit; brothers, Otis Lee, Odel Lee, Obie Lee, and Jack Lee; sisters, Bessie Morgan, Nettie Massey and Lula Bell Ivey.
Mrs. Clardy is survived by sons, Ervie Clardy of Jewett and Samuel Eugene Clardy of Midway; sisters, Betty Ellis of Palestine and Annie Mae Price of Weatherford; 10 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be grandchildren.

Rhodes Smith

Services for Rhodes Smith, 78, of Palestine, will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Bailey & Foster Chapel with the Rev. Lynn Stroud officiating. Burial will follow in Pilgrim Cemetery.
Mr. Smith died Sunday at Palestine Regional Medical Center.
He was born March 21, 1925 in Madison County to Hughie Newton and Dora Lee Rhodes Smith.
Mr. Smith was a barber. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Mr. Smith was in the lumber business from 1953 to 1964. He moved to Elkhart in 1983 and retired in 1991.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sue Rainey Smith, in 1996; son, Harvey Smith, in 1996; sisters, Juanita Smalley, Lillian Lilly, Lucille Streetman and Hazel Ferris.
Mr. Smith is survived by a son, Gary R. Smith of Palestine; seven grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
Pallbearers will be nephews and friends.
Condolence calls will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Henry Harvey Walker Sr.

Funeral arrangements for Henry Harvey Walker Sr., 67, of Palestine are pending at Bailey & Foster.
Mr. Walker died Monday at his home.

Hardy Seale

Funeral arrangements for Hardy Seale, 82, of Palestine are pending at Bailey & Foster.
Mr. Seale died Monday night at Palestine Regional Medical Center.

Maria G. Campos

Mass of Christian burial for Maria G. Campos, 66, of Killeen, will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church with the Rev. Edwin Kagoo officiating. Burial will be in Killeen Memorial Park under the direction of Killeen Memorial Funeral Home.
A Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Campos died Saturday morning at her home.
She was born Jan. 25, 1936 in Santa Clara Durango, Mexico, to Paulo Garcia and Fabila Garcia.
Mrs. Campos was a longtime resident of Killeen. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and a member of Legion of Mary.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Manuel Garcia; and a sister, Soledad Garcia.
Mrs. Campos is survived by her husband of 43 years, Francisco Campos; sons, Julian Campos and Frank Campos, both of Palestine, and Lionel Campos and Martin Campos, both of Harker Heights; a daughter, Connie Klotz of Sparks, Nev.; sisters, Consuelo Garcia, Ines Garcia and Luz Garcia, all of Mexico; brothers, Cadelario Garcia and Chavel Garcia, both of Mexico and Alejos Garcia of San Antonio; and nine grandchildren.

Mabel Johnson

Funeral arrangements for Mabel Johnson, 93, of Waco, and formerly of Palestine, are pending at Herrington/Land of Memory.
Mrs.  Johnson died Saturday morning in a Waco nursing home.

Roy Wilbur Stracener

Services for Roy Wilbur Stracener, 96, of Huntsville, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Richards United Methodist Church under the direction of Huntsville Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Holhausen-Darby Cemetery in Moscow.
Mr. Stracener died Sunday in Huntsville.
Mr. Stracener was a retired truck driver. After retirement he served for many years as chief of the Richards Volunteer Fire Department. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army who served in World War II.
Mr. Stracener was a member of Richards United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Ruby Stracener.
Mr. Stracener is survived by seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be grandsons.

Odessa Weisinger Porter

Services for Odessa Weisinger Porter, 85, of Houston, are pending. She will be cremated.
Mrs. Porter died Saturday in Houston following a lengthy illness.
She was born Feb. 25, 1917 in Houston County to William Monroe and Sadie Kate Phillips Weisinger.
Mrs. Porter attended school in Grapeland and Elkhart. She was married to Mark William Porter Jr. on June 10, 1938, and was a homemaker.
She was a member of Baptist Temple in Houston where she was active in the choir, the Ukelele Group, the Senior Singers and the Senior Sunday School class.
Mrs. Porter was preceded in death by her husband; and daughter, Ima Lee Higgins.
She is survived by daughter, Norma “Nicki” Lane of Palestine; son, Mark W. Porter III of Houston; sister, Ima Lea Pierce of Palestine; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
If desired, memorials may be made to a favorite charity.

Betty  Schmidt

Funeral arrangements for Betty Jean  Schmidt of Elkhart are pending at Herrington/Land of Memory Funeral Home.
Mrs.  Schmidt died Monday in a Dallas hospital.

Willie Mae Smith

Funeral arrangements for Willie Mae Smith, 51, of Palestine, are pending at Emanuel Funeral Home.
Mrs. Smith died this morning at her residence.

Andre’ Hall

Funeral arrangements for Andre’ Hall, 26, of Palestine, are pending at McCoy Funeral Home.
Mr. Hall died Monday at Greenbrier Nursing Home.

Dr. William Rupert “Bill” Stevens

Services for Dr. William Rupert “Bill” Stevens, 70, of Palestine, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Scott Dornbush officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Park under the direction of Bailey & Foster.
Dr. Stevens died Saturday at East  Texas Medical Center in Tyler.
He was born April 13, 1932, in Lubbock to Charles Rupert Stevens and Una  Jones Stevens.
Dr. Stevens was a member of First United Methodist Church. He was a graduate of  Texas A&M’s School of Veterinary Medicine and practiced for more than 45 years in Anderson County. Most of those years were in partnership with his brother-in-law Dr. Charles Williams.
Dr. Stevens served 12 years on the Palestine Independent School District Board of Trustees. He also served on the Lone Pine Water Supply Corporation Board. He was a longtime member of the choirs at First Baptist Church and later at First United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 31.
Dr. Stevens performed in many barbershop quartets and competitions and was an avid bridge player where he was a Bronze Life Master. He was dedicated to children and youth and spent his time involving himself as a coach, mentor and encourager.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Helen Thompson Stevens of Palestine; sons, David Stevens of Austin, Daniel Stevens of Montgomery and Darryl Stevens of Alvin; sisters, Marion Lawrence of Eldorado, Ark. and Martha Williams of Palestine; brothers, Dr. Charles Stevens of Athens and J.J. Stevens of Athens; and five grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be David Stevens, Daniel Stevens, Darryl Stevens, Charlie Williams, Mark Williams and Andrew Stevens.
Honorary pallbearers will be Stephen Bates, Steve Chionsini, Robert Follett, Charles Gregory, Joe Hardt, Jay Closner, Kenneth McConnell and George Wolcott.

Adolph Perry Shaver

Services for Adolph Perry Shaver, 88, of Palestine, will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday in the Bailey & Foster Chapel with the Rev. Tom Grisson officiating. Burial will be in the Palestine City Cemetery.
Mr. Shaver died Saturday at the Greenbrier Nursing Center.
He was born Sept. 30, 1914, in Elkhart to Clayton Homer Shaver and Annie May Perry Shaver.
Mr. Shaver was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church and was involved in the Methodist Men’s organization. He was a welder at a U.S. Navy shipyard in Houston during World War II. He worked 31 years for Glass Containers in Palestine.
He was a member of Palestine Kiwanis Club.
Mr. Shaver was preceded in death by a sister, Ione Skidmore; and brother, J.C. Shaver.
He is survived by his wife of 21 years, June Bars Shaver of Palestine; daughters, Fran Watts of Palestine and Marie Blount of San Antonio; sister, Opal Ashley of Palestine; brother, Rayford Shaver of Monahans; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Jay Hicks, Clarence Bice, Jerry Palmer, Wallace Southerland, Webb Bratz, Bill Copeland, Vic Lively and Larry Mack.
Condolence calls will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Jeffery Dave Walker

A memorial mass for Jeffery Dave Walker, 54, will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd in Terrell with a reception to follow in the fellowship hall. Arrangements are under the direction of Anderson Clayton Brothers Funeral Home of Terrell.
Mr. Walker died Saturday at Baylor Specialty Hospital in Dallas after an extended illness.
Mr. Walker was born March 21, 1948 in Corsicana, to Marie Shepherd and  Jefferson Davis Walker.
Mr. Walker was a jeweler for more than 30 years, and was an international master hand carver.
He worked as an engraver and hand carver. He received the National Salesman of the Year award from the Gordon Jewelers Corporation.
Mr. Walker worked for numerous customers and companies such as Nieman Marcus, Lady Primrose’s, Tiffany’s, Bachendorf’s, Zales, etc. He also created works for leaders in the United Nations, President Bush, Henry Kissinger, the British Royal Family, the King of Spain, the Dallas Cowboys, Dallas Stars and Dallas Mavericks.
Mr. Walker received a Bachelor of Business Administration from Southern Methodist University and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of  Texas at Tyler.
He worked at Jeffrey Walker Engravers Studio in Dallas.
Mr. Walker was a longtime member of the Episcopal Church. He was past president of the American Cancer Society, Carnegie Library as well as director of the Rotary Club International, United Way and the Palestine Chamber of Commerce.
He also served on various bank boards and private boards.
Mr. Walker is survived by his wife, Mary Elizabeth Walker of Terrell; son, Jeffrey Kolstad Walker of Chesapeake, Va.; stepdaughters, Tina and Summer Chartier of Austin; stepson, Joshua Chartier of College Station; and one stepgrandson.
Donations may be made to the Department of Neurology at the University of  Texas SW Medical Center, 5103 Harry Hines Blvd., Dallas,  Texas 75235.

A.Q. Hopper

Funeral arrangements for A.Q. Hopper, 78, of Palestine are pending at Bailey & Foster.
Mr. Hopper died this morning at Palestine Regional Medical Center.
