Woodie R. Ivey
Services for Woodie R. Ivey, 79, of Austonio, will be Tuesday at Memorial Funeral Home in Buffalo with Craig Graham officiating. Burial will be in the Sardis Cemetery under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Buffalo.
Mr. Ivey died Friday in Crockett.
He was born in Baird to Alfred C. and Lilla Beddingfield Ivey.
Mr. Ivey was a graduate of Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene. He taught distributive education at Thomas Jefferson High School in El Paso before going into business in the 1950s.
He was a regional executive with Travelers Insurance for many years before he built and managed the Weathervane Restaurant in Buffalo. He also built and operated a grocery and package store in Marquez. Prior to his death he bought and sold livestock for his land near Austonio.
Mr. Ivey was also a 32nd degree Mason.
He was married to Jean Talbott and later to Marie Carmichael of Abilene.
Mr. Ivey was preceded in death by an infant son, Roger; brother, Howard Ivey; sisters, Ona Belle Yancey, Lois Davis, Madris Barton and Vida Blalock.
He is survived by brother, Nathan Ivey of Duncanville; children, Linda Ivey of Boulder, Colo. and Greg Ivey of Jewett; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Terri Gable McElhaney
Services for Terri Gable McElhaney, 56, of Palestine, will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Bailey & Foster Chapel with the Rev. Larry Tilmon officiating. Burial will be in the Palestine Middle City Cemetery.
Mrs. McElhaney died Friday night at Palestine Regional Medical Center.
She was born Sept. 10, 1946, in Corsicana to Jack Gibbs and Virginia Sherrard Gibbs.
Mrs. McElhaney was a member of the Westside Assembly of God Church. She was a registered nurse and was director of nurses in Mexia and Corsicana for 27 years. She worked at Dogwood Trails Advanced Healthcare.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Mrs. McElhaney is survived by her husband, Paul E. McElhaney of Palestine; son, Bart Gable of Everett, Wash.; sisters, Jackie Knighten of Nacogdoches and Pennie Jenkins of Dallas; brother, Jimmie Goff of Ennis; and one grandchild.
Pallbearers will be Mark Jenkins, Bart Gable, J.P. McElhaney, Mack McElhaney, Wendell Whitaker and Craig Goff.
Condolence calls will be received from 6 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Art Davis
Services for Art Davis, 76, of Palestine, will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Cedar Creek Cemetery with the Rev. W.E. Shiflet officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Creek Cemetery under the direction of Bailey & Foster.
Mr. Davis died Saturday night at Palestine Regional Medical Center.
He was born May 27, 1926 in Indahoma, Okla. to Phillip Davis and Altha Mae McFarland Davis.
Mr. Davis was a Baptist and a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was a hot oil truck driver for Palestine Contractors.
He was preceded in death by two sisters and nine brothers.
Mr. Davis is survived by his wife, Mary Davis of Palestine; daughter, Phyllis Thompson of Palestine; son, Garry Davis of Palestine; sister, Juna Plunk; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Condolence calls will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Jane Stewart
Services for Jane Stewart, 73, of Texas City, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Strong Memorial Cemetery in Slocum. Emken-Linton Funeral Home in Texas City is handling arrangements.
Mrs. Stewart died Saturday at Clear Lake Regional Hospital in Webster.
She was born May 7, 1929 in Slocum.
Mrs. Stewart was retired from J.W. Weingarten’s Grocery after 32 years of service. She was a resident of Texas City for more than 47 years.
She is survived by her husband, James H. Stewart of Texas City; children, Glinda Berg Collins of Houston, Sharon Swain of Arkansas, Jimmy Stewart of California, John Stewart of Austin and Jerry Stewart of Texas City; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Larry Ernest Lee
Services for Larry Ernest Lee, 44, of Flo, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Buffalo Funeral Home with the Rev. Kenneth Stone officiating. Burial will be in Siloam Cemetery under the direction of Buffalo Funeral Home.
Mr. Lee died Saturday in a Houston hospital.
He was born Aug. 17, 1958, in Houston to Charlie Ernest and Alma Lynn Gore Lee.
Mr. Lee worked as a farm hand. He was a member of Garden Rose Baptist Church in Brookside Village near Pearland.
He is survived by his parents of Flo; brother, Mike Lee of Houston; and sister, Mary Lee Johnson of Slocum.
Pallbearers will be Billy Pate, Tommy Lee, Wendell LeGalley, Charlie Bob Newsom, Dempsey Pate and Royce Norton.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home with the family present beginning at 6 p.m.; and from 8 a.m. to time of service Tuesday.
Lola “Phoebe” Page
Services for Lola “Phoebe” Page, 95, of Palestine, will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at Hopewell Cemetery with the Rev. Jay Abernathy officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey & Foster.
Mrs. Page died today at Palestine Regional Medical Center.
She was born Oct. 18, 1906, in Cherokee County to Wylie and Mable Johnson.
Mrs. Page worked as a waitress. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Palestine.
She was preceded in death by son, Curtis Page, in 1959.
Mrs. Page is survived by daughter, Evelyn Elliott of Palestine; brother, Douglas Johnston of Jacksonville; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Condolence calls will be received from 6 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. The family requests that no condolence calls or food be sent to the home.
Nelda Jane Trimble
Services for Nelda Jane Trimble, 69, of Georgetown, and formerly of Palestine, were held March 29 at the Gabriels Funeral Chapel in Georgetown with Stuart Depew officiating. Burial was conducted at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Georgetown.
Mrs. Trimble died March 27 in Georgetown.
She was born April 4, 1932, in Magnolia, Ark. to Noble and Marie Boyd. Mrs. Trimble married Arnold Eugene “Gene” Trimble on April 22, 1950 in Kilgore.
She was preceded in death by her husband; and a brother.
Mrs. Trimble is survived by daughter, Teri Gooch of Georgetown; sons, Don Trimble and David Trimble, both of Palestine; sisters, Marge Pulley of Georgetown and Sue Bullington of Lovington, N.M.; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the Assistance League of Georgetown area development fund.
McClendon “Dipper” Spurlock
Services for McClendon “Dipper” Spurlock, 50, of Palestine, will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Grace Temple Church of God in Christ with Supt. Tommy Crosby officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Davis Funeral Home.
Mr. Spurlock died Wednesday at Palestine Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.
He was born July 7, 1951, in Palestine to T.J. Spurlock Sr. and Delphinia Hunter Spurlock.
Mr. Spurlock was disabled but worked part-time at Workshop Center. He attended Palestine school district. He was a member of Grace Temple Church of God in Christ.
He was preceded in death by brothers, James Edward Spurlock and Eugene Spurlock.
Mr. Spurlock is survived by his parents; brothers, T.J. Spurlock Jr., V.C. Spurlock, Willie Spurlock and Edward Spurlock, all of Palestine; sisters, Gloria Dial of Los Angeles, Calif., Alma Watson and Nancy Brisby, both of Palestine, and Marion D. Spurlock of Tyler.
Pallbearers will be Marcus Spurlock, Arburetha Spurlock, Toby Spurlock, Adrian Spurlock, Sheldon Watson, Alton Carr, Marcus Carr and Fabian Spurlock.
Honorary pallbearers will be church members.

Minnie Mae Matchett
Services for Minnie Mae Matchett, 51, will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at Southside Church of Christ in Midway with the Rev. M.C. Burns officiating. Burial will be at Southside Cemetery in Midway under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Mrs. Matchett died Tuesday in Palestine.
She was born Feb. 2, 1951, in Midway to Mary W. Bailey and Otis Simpson.
Mrs. Matchett was a lifetime member of Southside Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Mrs. Matchett is survived by her husband, James Glen Matchett of Grand Prairie; daughters, Centhia McNeil of Palestine, Donna Livingston of Houston and Sharon Matchett of Huntsville; son, Michael Simpson of Sherman; sisters, Nancy King of Humble, Betty Dunson Kelly of DeSoto, Mary Carter, Sarah Wiggins and Peggy Moore, all of Houston; brothers, James Nealey of Houston, Jesse Bailey of Dallas and Frank Bailey of Abilene; and five grandchildren.
Active pallbearers will be George Coleman, James Ivy, Elmer Josie, Lloyd Lewis, Michael McNeil and Claude Nealy.
Honorary pallbearers will be Keith Dunson, Rodrick Dunson, Anthony King, Mose King, Heron Livingston and Curtis McGilbra.
Thelma Grigsby
Services for Thelma Grigsby, 81, of Tyler, and formerly of Elkhart, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Myrtle Springs Cemetery with Perry Jones officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey & Foster.
Mrs. Grigsby died Thursday at Hospice Home Place in Tyler.
She was born Oct. 17, 1920, in Elkhart to Samuel Homer and Mary Myrtle Wall Lamb.
Mrs. Grigsby worked for Elkhart State Bank for 28 years before retiring. She was a member of Elkhart Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Coleman Grigsby, in 1987.
Mrs. Grigsby is survived by daughters, Diane Duitch of Tyler and Marilyn Woody of Elkhart; son, Richard Grigsby of League City; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Effie O. Groves
Services for Effie O. Groves, 91, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Luke Baptist Church in Crockett. Burial will follow in the Forest Lawn Cemetery under the direction of Emanuel Funeral Home, Crockett.
Mrs. Groves died Wednesday in Arlington.
She was born Jan. 5, 1911, in Brenham to Jim and Hattie August Evans.
Mrs. Groves attended school in Brenham. She was a member of Avenue L. Baptist Church in Galveston. She later moved to Crockett and united with St. Luke Baptist Church where she was an active member. She married Cecil C. Agent and later married the Rev. Julius Thomas Groves. She attended Mary Allen College and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Theology.
She was preceded in death by husband, J.T. Groves; children, Leroy Groves, Velma August, Addie Lee Gaines and two infants; siblings, C.B., Moses, Billy Evans, Katie Mae Jackson and Hattie Mae Johnson.
Mrs. Groves is survived by sons, Cecil Agent of Lufkin and Julius T. Groves of Houston; daughters, the Rev. Eunice Hightower of Arlington, Arzell Robbins of Crockett and Olivia Vonner of Waco; brother, Jacob Evans of Los Angeles, Calif.; sister, Juanita Reyes of Brenham; 63 grandchildren, 74 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
A wake will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. tonight at St. Luke Baptist Church.
Eugene R. Thomas
Services for Eugene R. Thomas, 90, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Smith Chapel AME Church in Dallas. Burial will follow at Restland Memorial Cemetery in Dallas under the direction of Emanuel Funeral Home.
Mr. Thomas died this morning in Dallas.
He was born May 3, 1911, in Bryan to Horace Thomas and Fannie Green Thomas.
Mr. Thomas attended school in Bryan. He was retired from Texas Instrument and was a member of Warren Chapel AME Church of Dallas and St. John Masonic Lodge No. 23.
He was preceded in death by sons, Vester Thomas Sr. and Hubert Ronnie Thomas.
Mr. Thomas is survived by sons, Adran M. Thomas of Lindale and Robert Thomas of Arlington; daughters, Marie Humphery of Duncanville, Ora B. Williams, Richa Smith, Celestine, Wallace and Christine Booker, all of Dallas, O’Dean Scott of Desoto and Tracey Jefferson of Brandon, Fla.; sister, Alice Turner and Johnnie Williams, both of Bryan; 51 grandchildren, 102 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.
A wake will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. tonight at Warren Chapel AME Church in Dallas.
Johnny Willis
Services for Johnny Willis, 33, of Spring, will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Muse Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey & Foster.
Mr. Willis died Sunday at Kingwood Medical Center in Kingwood.
He was born March 30, 1969, in Houston to John Richard Willis II and Judy Carolyn Clark Teague.
Mr. Willis was a salesman for Stubbs Cycle.
He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Richard (Judy) Teague of Spring; his father, John Willis of Spring; and son, Matthew McAllen Willis.
Pallbearers will be cousins.
