Katherine Rose Moore

Services for Katherine Rose Moore 78, of Palestine, will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Bailey & Foster Chapel with Dan Manuel officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Park.
Mrs. Moore died Sunday afternoon at Palestine Regional Medical Center.
She was born Feb. 2, 1924, in Palestine to Delbert M. and Bertha Moore Gatlin.
Mrs. Moore was a member of the Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by sister, Pat Amyett.
Mrs. Moore is survived by daughters, Kayeann Lowe of Palestine and Kerisue Bedair of Overton; sisters, Jackie Wilkinson of Quitman and Dorothy Smith of Dallas; brother, Delbert M. Gatlin of Lancaster; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Johnny Mack Brooks

Services for Johnny Mack Brooks, 68, of Oakwood, were at 2 p.m. Sunday at Capps Memorial Chapel of Fairfield with the Rev. Richard Gillet officiating. Burial followed at Lake Chapel Cemetery in Fairfield.
Mr. Brooks died May 28 in Lancaster.
He was born July 18, 1933, in Vernon.
Mr. Brooks was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife of more than 40 years, Mildred Brooks.
He is survived by son, Bradley Brooks of Cedar Hill; daughter, Johnna Lee Crum of Crowley; brother, Norman Brooks of Oakwood; and sister, Carolyn Fulton of North Carolina.
Pallbearers were Mike Graham, Allen Gardner, Bill Terry, Robert Ferguson, Craig McKissick and James Sacks.

Albert Jones

Services for Albert Jones, 61, of Buffalo, were at 1 p.m. today at First St. Holland Baptist Church in Buffalo with the Rev. Joseph Brown officiating. Burial followed in Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Oakwood under the direction of Emanuel Funeral Home in Teague.
Mr.  Jones died Thursday at East  Texas Medical Center in Tyler.
He was born Jan. 14, 1941 in Arkadelphia, Ark. to Cato and Mattie D. Perry Jones.
Mr.  Jones attended Mount Moriah Public School in Clark County and finished his education at South High School in Grand Rapids, Mich.
He was a member of First St. Holland Baptist Church in Buffalo.
Mr.  Jones is survived by his wife of 37 years, Arlie Collins  Jones of Buffalo; daughters, Doris Dawkins and Caroline Dawkins, both of Buffalo; sister, Irma Jean House of Grand Rapids, Mich.; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Rose Tyer

Services for Rose Tyer, 81, of Crockett, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in the Callaway-Alee Memorial Chapel in Crockett with the Rev. John Goss officiating. Interment will follow in Center Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Tyer died Oct. 7 at East  Texas Medical Center in Crockett.
She was born June 16, 1921, in Crockett to Martin and Kathryn Svoboda.
Mrs. Tyer had lived in Crockett most of her lifetime. She was a graduate of Lovelady High School and had worked in the grocery business. She was a member of Central Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Coleman Tyer; sisters, Georgia LaRue and Millie Steffek; and brother, Joe Svoboda.
Mrs. Tyer is survived by daughter, Barbara Carroll of Crockett; son, Albert C. “Cokie” Tyer; three grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

Robert Lee Hammonds

Services for Robert Lee Hammonds, 58, of Fairfield, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Kings Cemetery in Aley. Arrangements are under the direction of Capps Memorial Chapel.
Mr. Hammonds died Tuesday at his home.
He was born in Athens to Jack Hammonds and Vivian Vick Hammonds.
Mr. Hammonds was a Baptist. He was retired from Vought Aircraft and served in the U.S. Navy from 1961-64.
He was preceded in death by his mother.
Mr. Hammonds is survived by his father of Streetman; wife, Margie A. Dlabaj Hammonds of Fairfield; daughter, Brenda Kelsey of Waco; sons, Bobby Hammonds and Ronald Hammonds, both of Streetman, and Randy Hammonds of Dallas; brothers, Larry Hammonds of Kerens, Jackie Hammonds of Ennis and Michael Hammonds of Jewett; and nine grandchildren.
Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Derwin L. Lett

Funeral arrangements for Derwin L. Lett, 84, formerly of Athens, are pending at Foster and Brown Funeral Home in Athens.
Mr. Lett died Tuesday in Sherman.

Luna Anne Parker

Services for Luna Anne Parker, 94, of Elkhart, will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church in Elkhart with the Rev. Floyd Petersen officiating. Burial will be in Pilgrim Cemetery under the direction of Bailey & Foster.
Mrs. Parker died Wednesday at Spring Seasons in Elkhart.
She was born Oct. 3, 1908 in Houston to John W. Ellisor and Eunice Clark Ellisor.
Mrs. Parker was a member of the First Baptist Church and a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Jack C. Parker, in 2001; and seven siblings.
Mrs. Parker is survived by sisters, Allene Moran of Elkhart and Carty Keen Sutton of Grapeland.
Pallbearers will be C.J. Moran Jr., Truman Starr, Mike Moran, Curtis Starr, Joel Parker and Scott Nicholson.
Condolence calls will be received from 6 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church in Elkhart or Pilgrim Cemetery Association.

Marion (Oliver) Prater

Funeral arrangements for Marion (Oliver) Prater, 86, of Palestine, are pending at Bailey & Foster.
Mr. Prater died Friday at the Veterans Affairs Hospital in Temple.

Lawrence H. Crawford

Services for Lawrence H. Crawford, 82, of Palestine, will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Bailey & Foster Chapel with the Rev. Andy Ohman officiating. Burial will follow in Crawford Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey & Foster, Palestine.
Mr. Crawford died Tuesday morning at East  Texas Medical Center in Jacksonville.
He was born Nov. 4, 1920 in Slocum to George W. and Florence Emily Dillard Crawford.
Mr. Crawford was in the Merchant Marines. He was a Baptist.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Mr. Crawford is survived by sister, Gloria McLane of Palestine; brothers, G.W. Crawford of Grapeland, Norris Crawford Sr. of Palestine and Tom Crawford of Neches.
Pallbearers will be Norris Crawford Jr., Bruce Crawford, Cody Crawford, George Crawford, James McClendon and Mark Bolton.
Condolence calls will be received from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

James M. Chavers

Services for James M. Chavers, 90, of Elkhart will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Bailey & Foster Chapel with the Rev. Zacharias Kunnakkattuthara officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Park.
Mr. Chavers died Tuesday at his residence.
He was born June 20, 1912 to George E. and Elizabeth Hammet Chavers.
Mr. Chavers was employed by the U.S. Civil Service for the department of the Air Force and retired after 35 years of service. He attended the Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
He was preceded in death by sisters, Annie Laura Smith and Margie Chavers; a brother, Lee Chavers.
Mr. Chavers is survived by his wife of 49 years, Ann Chavers of Elkhart; sister, Lora Bowen of Tyler; and brother, George Chavers of Murphysberg, Tenn.; and three grandchildren.
Condolence calls will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Dr. William Rupert “Bill” Stevens

Services for Dr. William Rupert “Bill” Stevens, 70, of Palestine, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Scott Dornbush officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Park under the direction of Bailey & Foster.
Dr. Stevens died Saturday at East  Texas Medical Center in Tyler.
He was born April 13, 1932, in Lubbock to Charles Rupert Stevens and Una  Jones Stevens.
Dr. Stevens was a member of First United Methodist Church. He was a graduate of  Texas A&M’s School of Veterinary Medicine and practiced for more than 45 years in Anderson County. Most of those years were in partnership with his brother-in-law Dr. Charles Williams.
Dr. Stevens served 12 years on the Palestine Independent School District Board of Trustees. He also served on the Lone Pine Water Supply Corporation Board. He was a longtime member of the choirs at First Baptist Church and later at First United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 31.
Dr. Stevens performed in many barbershop quartets and competitions and was an avid bridge player where he was a Bronze Life Master. He was dedicated to children and youth and spent his time involving himself as a coach, mentor and encourager.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Helen Thompson Stevens of Palestine; sons, David Stevens of Austin, Daniel Stevens of Montgomery and Darryl Stevens of Alvin; sisters, Marion Lawrence of Eldorado, Ark. and Martha Williams of Palestine; brothers, Dr. Charles Stevens of Athens and J.J. Stevens of Athens; and five grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be David Stevens, Daniel Stevens, Darryl Stevens, Charlie Williams, Mark Williams and Andrew Stevens.
Honorary pallbearers will be Stephen Bates, Steve Chionsini, Robert Follett, Charles Gregory, Joe Hardt, Jay Closner, Kenneth McConnell and George Wolcott.

Adolph Perry Shaver

Services for Adolph Perry Shaver, 88, of Palestine, will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday in the Bailey & Foster Chapel with the Rev. Tom Grisson officiating. Burial will be in the Palestine City Cemetery.
Mr. Shaver died Saturday at the Greenbrier Nursing Center.
He was born Sept. 30, 1914, in Elkhart to Clayton Homer Shaver and Annie May Perry Shaver.
Mr. Shaver was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church and was involved in the Methodist Men’s organization. He was a welder at a U.S. Navy shipyard in Houston during World War II. He worked 31 years for Glass Containers in Palestine.
He was a member of Palestine Kiwanis Club.
Mr. Shaver was preceded in death by a sister, Ione Skidmore; and brother, J.C. Shaver.
He is survived by his wife of 21 years, June Bars Shaver of Palestine; daughters, Fran Watts of Palestine and Marie Blount of San Antonio; sister, Opal Ashley of Palestine; brother, Rayford Shaver of Monahans; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Jay Hicks, Clarence Bice, Jerry Palmer, Wallace Southerland, Webb Bratz, Bill Copeland, Vic Lively and Larry Mack.
Condolence calls will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Jeffery Dave Walker

A memorial mass for Jeffery Dave Walker, 54, will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd in Terrell with a reception to follow in the fellowship hall. Arrangements are under the direction of Anderson Clayton Brothers Funeral Home of Terrell.
Mr. Walker died Saturday at Baylor Specialty Hospital in Dallas after an extended illness.
Mr. Walker was born March 21, 1948 in Corsicana, to Marie Shepherd and  Jefferson Davis Walker.
Mr. Walker was a jeweler for more than 30 years, and was an international master hand carver.
He worked as an engraver and hand carver. He received the National Salesman of the Year award from the Gordon Jewelers Corporation.
Mr. Walker worked for numerous customers and companies such as Nieman Marcus, Lady Primrose’s, Tiffany’s, Bachendorf’s, Zales, etc. He also created works for leaders in the United Nations, President Bush, Henry Kissinger, the British Royal Family, the King of Spain, the Dallas Cowboys, Dallas Stars and Dallas Mavericks.
Mr. Walker received a Bachelor of Business Administration from Southern Methodist University and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of  Texas at Tyler.
He worked at Jeffrey Walker Engravers Studio in Dallas.
Mr. Walker was a longtime member of the Episcopal Church. He was past president of the American Cancer Society, Carnegie Library as well as director of the Rotary Club International, United Way and the Palestine Chamber of Commerce.
He also served on various bank boards and private boards.
Mr. Walker is survived by his wife, Mary Elizabeth Walker of Terrell; son, Jeffrey Kolstad Walker of Chesapeake, Va.; stepdaughters, Tina and Summer Chartier of Austin; stepson, Joshua Chartier of College Station; and one stepgrandson.
Donations may be made to the Department of Neurology at the University of  Texas SW Medical Center, 5103 Harry Hines Blvd., Dallas,  Texas 75235.

A.Q. Hopper

Funeral arrangements for A.Q. Hopper, 78, of Palestine are pending at Bailey & Foster.
Mr. Hopper died this morning at Palestine Regional Medical Center.

Artie M. Clardy

Funeral arrangements for Artie M. Clardy, 93, of Jewett, are pending at Bailey & Foster.
Mrs. Clardy died Saturday at Madison St. Joseph Health Center in Madisonville.

Rhodes Smith

Funeral arrangements for Rhodes Smith, 78, of Elkhart, are pending at Bailey & Foster.
Mr. Smith died Sunday morning at Palestine Regional Medical Center.
