Helen Nerren Blount

Services for Helen Nerren Blount, 87, of Palestine, will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday at Grace United Methodist Church with Max Davis officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Herrington/Land of Memory Funeral Home.
Mrs. Blount died Friday in Palestine.
She was born May 18, 1914, in Lufkin to John Dow Nerren and Lela York Nerren.
A resident of Palestine for most of her life, Mrs. Blount was a homemaker and a member of the Loyalty Class at Grace United Methodist Church as well as a president of the United Methodist Women.
She was a member of the Newcomer’s Club, Methodist Women’s Quilters and GIAs. At Christmas 2001, she handquilted and finished Christmas stockings for the children of the residents of the Crisis Center of Anderson and Cherokee Counties.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Audrey Oneal Blount in 1978 and daughter, Elaine Blount in 1963.
She is survived by daughters, Jacqualine Vickery of Palestine and Donna B. Thomas of Plano; son, Mike Blount of San Antonio; sisters, Cecil McMillian and Gwendolyn Cunningham, both of Lufkin; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Joby Tankersley, Jason Tankersley,  Jackson Thomas, Brandon Wiley, Christian Wiley and John Walker.
Visitation will be 6:30 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested Cherokee Counties Crisis Center, P.O. Box 8371, Jacksonville, TX 75766.

Mildred Brooks

Services for Mildred Brooks, 70, of Oakwood, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Capps Memorial Chapel. Burial will be in Lake Chapel Cemetery, Fairfield.
Mrs. Brooks died Thursday in Dallas.
She was born Dec. 24, 1931, in Martins Mill.
Mrs. Brooks was a truck driver who did special highway maintenance with the state of  Texas.
She was a Protestant.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy Lee Germany and Ila Mac Weaver.
She is survived by her husband, Johnny Mack Brooks of Oakwood; daughters, Johnna Lee Crum of Crawley; son, Bradley O. Brooks of Cedar Hill; and seven grandchildren.

Jewell Mayo

Services for Jewel Mayo, 95, of Fairfield, will be held at 2 p.m. today at Capps Memorial Chapel with John Simmons officiating. Burial will be in Shanks Cemetery in Simsboro.
Mrs. Mayo died Thursday at East  Texas Medical Center, Fairfield.
She was a hospital sitter and a member of Fairfield Church of Christ.
Mrs. Mayo was preceded in death by her husband, Normey Mayo of Fairfield; her parents, John Manus York and Eralee Lemons of Henderson; several brothers and sisters.
She is survived by daughters, Norma Eldridge of Graham, Doris Blocker of Odessa, Moselle Brown of Tyler and Dorothy Faye Garber of Fairfield; brother, Albert York of Fairfield; four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
Pallbearers will be H.J. Cannon, Albert Bonner, Thomas Doyle Cannon, Buck Bonner, Jodie Bonner and Joel Andrew Bonner.

Tipton “Tip” Walters

Services for Tipton “Tip” Walters, 68, of Tennessee Colony, will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Bailey & Foster Chapel. Burial will be in Roselawn Park.
Mr. Walters died Wednesday at his home.
He was born Oct. 12, 1933 in Quemado, N.M. to Leon Robert Walters and Hazel Hill Walters.
Mr. Walters was a U.S. veteran who served in the Korean War. He was a self-employed rancher.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Bob Walters.
Mr. Walters is survived by daughters, Moreau Durkin of Tucson, Ariz. Miechal Cox of San Antonio; son, Vance Walters of Cayuga; sisters, Aletha Aunger of Albequerque, N.M., Vaughn Walters and Judy Fletcher of Grand Junction, Col.; brother, Gerald Walters of Grannis, Ark.; and seven grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Jess Johnson, Raymond Gallegos, Wes Walters and Deveral Walters.

Mattie Marrs

Funeral arrangements for Mattie Sue Marrs of Palestine are pending at Herrington/Land of Memory.
Mrs. Marrs died Friday at Palestine Regional Medical Center.

Frances Marie Jones

Services for Frances Marie Jones, 69, of Chandler, and formerly of Elkhart, will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Garden of Memories Cemetery with Woodrow Cooksey officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey & Foster.
Mrs.  Jones died Monday at Briarcliff Nursing Home in Tyler.
She was born March 5, 1933, in Anderson County to James Harvey and Annie Mae Cooksey Cook.
Mrs.  Jones was a homemaker and artist. She was a member of the Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Mrs.  Jones is survived by her husband, Cleo  Jones of Chandler; daughters, Cynthia Cloud and Candy Lutton, both of Tyler, and Laura Wood of Las Vegas, Nev.; sons, Stephen Anderson of Chandler, Johnny Anderson of Tyler and Marshall Anderson of Redland; the father of her children, Albert Anderson of Tyler; sister, Linda Beck of California; brothers, Joe Cook and Bobby Cook, both of California; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Honorary pallbearers will be Marshall Harvey Jr., Shane Russell Anderson and Stephen Anderson Jr.
Condolence calls will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Benola Daniels

Services for Benola Daniels, 88, of Grapeland, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Evergreen Chapel with the Rev. Kenny Bush officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery under the direction of Bailey & Foster, Grapeland.
Mrs. Daniels died Monday at Grapeland Nursing Home.
She was born June 2, 1913, in Houston County to Benie and Willie Coleman Mitchell.
Mrs. Daniels was a homemaker and a member of the Percilla Community Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, O.C. Daniels, in 1964; and brothers, Harold Mitchell and Porter Mitchell.
Mrs. Daniels is survived by daughters, Louise Hassell, Frances Jordan and Rita Moore, all of Grapeland; sisters, Leona Dickey of Grapeland and Flora Mae  Jones of Rusk; brother, Vernon Mitchell of Palestine; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Jamie Smith, Mitchell Huff, Bill Johnson, Casey Vickers, Davy Hobson and Jody Daniels.
Condolence calls will be received from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Pauline Rich Monk

Services for Pauline Rich Monk, 89, of Amarillo, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Griggs Funeral Home Chapel in Amarillo with the Rev. Harry Babbitt officiating. Burial will be Llano East Cemetery.
Mrs. Monk was born Sept. 2, 1912 in Alto.
She moved to Lelia Lake in 1948, Clarendon in 1960 and Amarillo in 1970. She was a retired nurses aid and a member of South Georgia Baptist Church.
Mrs. Monk was preceded in death by a son, Terry Wayne Monk, in 1954; and a brother, Travis Rich, in 1997.
She is survived by daughters, Ardath  White and Brenda Hall, both of Amarillo, and Carolyn Bowman of Golden, Col.; sons, Bill Monk of Amarillo and Rayburn Monk of Windomar,  Calif.; a sister, Alta Pierce of Lufkin; 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
The family requests memorials be made to the Special Olympics, 112 W. 8th Street, Suite 341, Amarillo,  Texas 79101.

Mary Frances Awalt

Services for Mary Frances Awalt, 85, will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Capps Memorial Chapel in Fairfield with the Rev. Mack Roller officiating. Burial will follow at Stewards Mill Cemetery.
Mrs. Awalt died Monday.
She was born Sept. 15, 1916, in Kirvin to Samuel and Lillie Simmons.
Mrs. Awalt attended school in Streetman. She retired from GTE in 1981. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Fairfield.
Mrs. Awalt was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Awalt; an infant son; sisters, Neva Belle Warren and Nannie Pearl Reed; and brothers, Reuis Simmons and Van Dean Simmons.
Mrs. Awalt is survived by son, Warren Awalt of Fairfield; daughter, Bobbie Bentley of Waco; five grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be David Awalt, Jeff Awalt, Leslie Reid Bonner, Jesse Awalt, Keith Bentley and Keith Outlaw.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
In lieu of usual remembrances, the family requests memorials be made to the Hospice of Fairfield, or to a charity of choice in her name.

Della Mae Bryan

Services for Della Mae Bryan, 84, of Palestine, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Herrington/Land of Memory Chapel with Owen Perry officiating.
Mrs. Bryan died Monday at Palestine Healthcare Center.
She was born Aug. 29, 1917, in Emory to Ben and Ada Percy  White Bryan.
Mrs. Bryan had lived in Palestine most of her life. She was a pioneer in the nursing home field and was a nursing home administrator and nurse for 40 years. She was a member of Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by daughters, Betty Sadler and Claudine Walker; and brother, Frank Bryan.
Mrs. Bryan is survived by son, Gary W. Parker of Palestine; 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Honorary pallbearers will be grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the Diabetes Association.

Doyle Jackson

Services for Doyle Jackson, 94, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Chapel of Emanuel Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Memorial Cemetery in Palestine.
Mr.  Jackson died Sunday night at Dogwood Trails Advanced Healthcare in Palestine.
He was born Jan. 13, 1908, in Fairfield to Jack and Willie  Washington Jackson.
Mr.  Jackson lived for many years in Arizona, and after retiring, he moved to Bryan. He was a Baptist and an ordained deacon.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Bell Jackson; and siblings, William Jackson, Florine Rochell, Chirchie Jackson, Lula Payne, Pearlene  Jackson and Daniel Jackson.
Mr.  Jackson is survived by a host of nieces and nephews.

Vergie Lee Wornell Brooks

Funeral arrangements for Vergie Lee Wornell Brooks, 88, of Oakwood, are pending at Bailey & Foster, Palestine.
Mrs. Brooks died Tuesday night at Buffalo Nursing Home.

Henry Miller

Funeral arrangements for Henry Miller, 76, of Palestine, are pending at McCoy Funeral Home.
Mr. Miller died this morning at Dogwood Trails Advanced Healthcare.

Charles Walker

Funeral arrangements for Charles Walker, 57, are pending at McCoy Funeral Home.
Mr. Walker died Tuesday evening at Palestine Regional Medical Center.
