Mildred Juanita Ivey
Services for Mildred Juanita Ivey, 62, of Jewett, were at 10 a.m. today at the Buffalo Funeral Home in Buffalo. A graveside service was at 3 p.m. at the Brookside Cemetery in Houston.
Mrs. Ivey died Tuesday in St. Joseph Regional Health Center in Bryan following a long illness.
She was born Dec. 1, 1939, in Lott to E.W. and Mildred Vaughn Thomas.
Mrs. Ivey graduated from Northside High School in Houston. She worked as a waitress most of her life and was a Baptist by faith.
She was preceded in death by her father; and her husband, William Max Ivey.
Mrs. Ivey is survived by her mother, Mildred Vaughn Landers of Houston; sons, Joel Max Ivey and Robert Floyd Ivey, both of Milano, Mark Wayne Ivey of Jewett and Shaun Lee Ivey of Ackerman, Miss; two brothers, Jimmy Landers and Wendell Landers, both of Houston; sister Jeanette Lobue of Porter; and six grandchildren.
Luke Griffin
Services for Luke Griffin, 69, of the Tadmore community in Houston County, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Simpson Chapel Baptist Church in Tadmore. Burial will follow in McKelvey Cemetery under the direction of Emanuel Funeral Home, Crockett.
Mr. Griffin died in the Wells Care Center in Cherokee County on Nov. 9.
He was born Oct. 18, 1933 in Ratcliff to John Griffin and Velma Calhoun Griffin.
Mr. Griffin was a member of Simpson Chapel Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, John White and Bud Sheffield; and a sister, Jackie Sheffield.
Mr. Griffin is survived by children, Tina Hackney, Sheila Hackney, Earnest C. Griffin and James Griffin, all of Alto, Reginald Griffin of Las Vegas, Nev. and Luke Griffin Jr. of Jacksonville; siblings, Rochester Griffin and Justin Poole, both of Alto, Runt Sheffield and John Griffin, both of Ratcliff, Donald White of Crockett, Ronald White of Tadmore, Sam Griffin and Sam Sheffield, both of Houston; and a host of grandchildren.
A wake will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight in the T.W. Berry Chapel.
Carlena A. McLemore
Services for Carlena A. McLemore, 59, of Palestine, were held Wednesday at Muse Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Bailey & Foster. A memorial service conducted by the family was at 1 p.m. today at Christ Community Church.
Mrs. McLemore died Wednesday at Palestine Regional Medical Center.
She was born March 12, 1943 in Jennings, La. to Earnest John McLemore Sr. and Maggie Leleux McLemore.
Mrs. McLemore was a homemaker and a member of Christ Community Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Mrs. McLemore is survived by her husband, Joel Richards of Palestine; son, Robert V. Simmons Jr of Palestine; sister, Madeline Curtis of Austin; brothers, Jerry McLemore of Elkhart and Donald McLemore of Palestine.
Johnnie Green Wagner
Services for Johnnie Green Wagner, 87, of Palestine, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Myron Waddle officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Mrs. Wagner died Tuesday at Palestine Regional Medical Center.
She was born July 25, 1915 in Palestine to the Rev. Bennie and Julia Beason Green. She attended Anderson County schools and was a domestic worker for years.
Mrs. Wagner was a longtime member of Grant Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church where she sang in the choir and served the church in other capacities.
She was preceded in death by her husband, J.W. Wagner; six sisters and three brothers.
She is survived by a brother, Matthew Green of El Paso.
Harold Eugene Swarthout

Teresa “Terry” Pickle
Services for Teresa “Terry” Pickle, 30, of Palestine, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Herrington/Land of Memory Chapel with Marty Fowler officiating. Burial will follow at Broyles Chapel Cemetery.
Mrs. Pickle died Saturday at her residence.
She was born Nov. 9, 1971, in Palestine to Don L. Smith and Eufermia Gonzales Smith.
Mrs. Pickle had lived in Palestine all of her life. She was a graduate of Westwood High School and a Baptist. She worked in the radiology department at Palestine Regional Medical Center.
She is survived by her husband, Darrell Pickle of Palestine; sons, Matthew R. “Randy” Pickle and Michael R. “Riley” Pickle, both of Palestine; father, Don L. Smith of Palestine; mother and stepfather, Eufemia and Archie Starr of Palestine; grandmother, Cristela Gonzalez of Palestine; brother, Jason Starr of Palestine; sisters, Rachele Smith and Kristi Timmons, both of Palestine; and many other relatives.
Pallbearers will be Dean Lankford, Eric Smith, Daniel Ray Smith, John Pickle, Rick Adair, Walter Davis, David Anderson and Steve Ballew.
Honorary pallbearers will be Paul Webb, Craig Webb, Matthew Sharon and Mark Sharon.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Cecil “Butch” Melson
Services for Cecil “Butch” Melson, 70, of Grapeland, will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Percilla United Methodist Church with the Revs. Roger Craiker and Larry Dunn officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery under the direction of Bailey & Foster, Grapeland.
Mr. Melson died Saturday at his residence.
He was born March 16, 1931, in Whitesboro to Silas Andrew Melson and Nola Lesley Melson.
Mr. Melson was a member of the Percilla United Methodist Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Disabled American Veterans. He retired after 20 years service with the U.S. Air Force and during that time he served in Vietnam. Following retirement from the Air Force, he worked as a carpenter.
He was preceded in death by sisters, Izora Moore and Josie Fairchild; and brothers, S.M. Melson, Kenneth Melson and Wayne Melson.
Mr. Melson is survived by his wife, Winnie Melson of Grapeland; daughter, Diane Haws of Percilla; sons, Jackie Melson and Jeff Melson, both of Grapeland; sister, Ollie Collier of Grapeland; and nine grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Tracye Callaway, Kenny Melson, Ronnie Moore, Roger Collier, Tommy Sullivan and Larry Melson.

Margaret L. “Peggy” Byron
Services for Margaret L. “Peggy” Byron, 53, of Balch Springs, and formerly of Palestine, were held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Allan Fuller Funeral Home Chapel in Willis Point with the Rev. Morris Nelms officiating. Burial followed at White Rose Cemetery in Wills Point.
Mrs. Byron died Thursday night in a Dallas hospital.
She was born Nov. 10, 1048, in Corpus Christi to Robert Dale Jackson and Bette Jo Davis Jackson.
Mrs. Byron was reared in Freer and graduated from high school there. She also attended Uvalde College. She was an administrative specialist with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. She had lived in DeSoto prior to moving to Balch Springs three years ago. She was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church of Dallas.
She is survived by her husband, Gene Byron of Balch Springs; her parents of Goliad; son, Robert Kramer of Conroe; daughters, Amanda Hylton of Varnville, S.C. and Kathy Jo Kramer of Dallas; stepdaughters, Rebecca Nash of Dallas and Kathy Lynn Bustos of Forney; sister, Susan Moore of Tallahassee, Fla.; six grandchildren and two stepgrandchildren.
Edith Chandler
Services for Edith Chandler, 95, of Palestine, were at 10 a.m. today at Roselawn Cemetery with the Rev. M.A. Morris officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Herrington/Land of Memory Funeral Home.
Mrs. Chandler died Saturday at Dogwood Trails Advanced Healthcare.
She was born Nov. 3, 1906, in Navarro County to James M. and Mary Franklin Green.
Mrs. Chandler had worked for many years as a legal secretary for attorney Ned Morris. She was a member of First Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold R. Chandler, in June 1965; and brother, James Green, in May 1973.
Mrs. Chandler is survived by sister-in-law, Mrs. J.D. (Lucille) Green of Sylvestor.
Helen Kay Walker
Services for Helen Kay Walker, 61, of Houston, and formerly of Grapeland, will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Grapeland Church of Christ with David Brown and Buddy McVey officiating. Burial will be in Livelyville Cemetery under the direction of Bailey & Foster, Grapeland.
Mrs. Walker died Saturday at her home in Houston.
She was born in Houston to Thomas Engram and Rubye Polk Engram.
Mrs. Walker was a member of the Church of Christ. She was employed by Harris County for 14 years as a clerk in county court.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Mrs. Walker is survived by her mother of Liberty Hill; husband, Billy Walker of Houston; daughter, Robin Chenette of Lufkin; sons, Chance walker and Aaron Walker, both of Houston; sister, Joy McVey of Sugar Land; brothers, Charles Richard Engram of Grapeland, Jimmie Arlen Engram of Houston and Bruce Engram of Centerville; and two grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Clark McCracken, Barry Engram, Troy Walker, Cory Chenette, Joshua McVey, Matt McVey, Danny Engram and Jason Bay.

Thomas Davis
Services for Thomas Davis, 82, of Palestine, will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Dogwood Hills Baptist Church with the Rev. Kevin Willmott officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey & Foster.
Mr. Davis died Friday at Greenbrier Nursing Center.
He was born June 14, 1919, in Ridgeway to Thomas Davis Sr. and Lavona McCafferty Davis.
Mr. Davis was a Baptist and an automotive mechanic before retiring.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Bobby Davis, Gene Davis and Leon Davis; and grandchildren, Robbie Davis and Jarrett Broadson.
Mr. Davis is survived by his wife, Minnie Pierman Davis of Palestine; daughters, Sue McPherson of Oklahoma City, Okla. and Liz Ward of Palestine; sons, Thomas Davis Jr. of Oraville, Calif., Butch Davis of Palestine, Nick Davis of Oklahoma City, and Jeff Davis and Bob Davis, both of Arcadia, Okla.; 19 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
Erma Lee Lewis
Services for Erma Lee Lewis, 76, of Fairfield, will be at noon Tuesday at Fairfield Baptist Church. Burial will follow at the Fairfield Baptist Cemetery in Fairfield under the direction of Emanuel Funeral Home No. 2 of Teague.
Mrs. Lewis died Thursday in Dallas.
She was born Aug. 9, 1925, to Albert Keaton and Lovie Cornish Keaton.
Mrs. Lewis attended and received her education in the Fairfield school district and graduated from Dogan High School. She was a member of Fairfield Baptist Church, where she served as a choir and mission member.
She was preceded in death by her father; stepfather, William Proctor; and two grandsons.
She is survived by husband, Lozell Lewis of Fairfield; sons, Winfred Earl, Blaine, Washington and Lorenzo, all of Palestine, Jerry Lee “Zeck”, Guaw, Leslie Gary, all of Buffalo, Johnny Wayne of Fort Worth, William Calvin of Houston, James Lee of Dallas and Willie Frank of Childress; daughters, Nedra “Nikki,” Wilie, Carol “Niecy,” all of Plano, Mary Jo of Dallas, Trudy and Mary Helen, both of Fort Worth, Sally Ruth of San Antonio and Erma Jean of Fairfield; mother, Lovie Mae Proctor of Fort Worth; sister, Lila Mae Phillips of Fairfield; 38 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
