Bernie E. Seils

WESLACO, TX — Bernie Elsie Seils, age 78, of Weslaco, passed away Monday, October 7, 2002 in Austin,  Texas.

She was born January 22, 1924 in Keeler Township, Michigan.

Mrs. Seils, along with her husband, Edward, were longtime business owners of the Pick-Up and Bernie’s Package Store in Weslaco, where they made numerous friends and were active in the community.

In her late years, Bernie dedicated many hours as a volunteer at Knapp Medical Center.

She is survived by two sons, Allan (Mike) Seils, his wife, Dorothy and Thomas Seils; two brothers, Virgil Polmanteer and Theodore Polmanteer; her sister, Doris Hetherington; grandchilden, Damon Seils, Zachary Seils, Thomas Seils, Jr. and Jessica Seils; and three great grandsons.

She is also survived by a large extended family and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward O. Seils, in 1984.

Funeral services will be held today, Thursday, October 10, 2002 at 10 a.m. at McCaleb Funeral Home Chapel in Weslaco.

The Reverend Howard Bloomquist, Pastor of the First Christian Church in Weslaco will be officiating.

Interment will follow at Highland Memorial Park in Weslaco.

Serving as pallbearers will be Eddie Seils, Dean Rush, Les Wilson, Chaplain Daniel Davila, Tom Carter and Jay Madden.

Friends who wish may make memorial contributions to the Knapp Medical Center Foundation, P. O. Box 1110, Weslaco,  Texas 78599. (956) 969-5240.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of McCaleb Funeral Home.

Genoveva Guerrero

SEBASTIAN, TX — Genoveva Peralez Guerrero went to her eternal rest on Monday, October 7, 2002 at Valley Baptist Medical Center. She was born in Linares, Nuevo Leon, Mexico on November 29, 1912, was a lifetime resident of Sebastian.

She is survived by her sons, Macario (Josefina) of Houston, Roberto (Rosalinda) of Phoenix, Alberto, II (Rosalinda) of Primera; daughters, Ofelia and Celia of Sebastian, Alicia (Carlos) Lopez of Harlingen, Teodora (Gilbert) Botello of Houston; thirteen grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.

She is also survived by her sister, Manuelita (Raymundo) Rubio of Weslaco, also survived by numerous nephews and nieces.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Francisco Guerrero; two sons, Jose and Alberto; her parents, Ignacio and Isabel Perales.

Mrs. Guerrero will lay in state at St. Martin Catholic Church in Sebastian on Wednesday 10 a.m. with a Rosary held at the Church on Wednesday, October 9th, at 7 p.m.

Funeral will be held Thursday, 2 p.m., October 10th, at St. Martin of Tours Church.

Burial will follow at the Guadalupe Cemetery in Sebastian.

Pallbearers will be Jesse, Macario, Roberto, Annaizza Guerrero and Javier and Roberto Carlos Lopez.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Duddlesten Funeral Home.

Eleazar Flores Jr.

MERCEDES / BROOKSHIRE, TX — Eleazar Flores, Jr., 51, passed away Monday at his residence in Brookshire, TX.

He is preceded in death by his father, Eleazar Flores, Sr. in 1981; a brother, Emilio Flores; a brother-in-law, Rodrigo Ramirez; a nephew, Nakia Lee Flores Ramirez; and a niece, Sondra Olivarez.

He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Maria C. Flores of Brookshire; two sons, Eleazar Flores, III of Weslaco and Juan Manuel Flores of Brookshire; his mother, Elena G. Flores of Mercedes; two brothers, Ricardo Flores of Brookshire and Dr. Leovardo Flores of Vernon, TX; four sisters, Connie Olivarez of Brookshire, Martha Ramirez Torres of San Angelo, Mary Jilpas of San Juan and Narce Reyes of Mercedes; four grandchildren, Vanessa Marie Flores, Eleazar Flores, IV, Gabriela Flores all of Weslaco and Adrian Flores of Mission.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. at the Church Of The Nazarene, 821 S. Indiana, Mercedes, with Rev. Jose Palacios officiating, burial will follow at Ebony Grove Cemetery also in Mercedes.

Services have been entrusted to the care of Garcia & Trevino Funeral Home of Mercedes.

WESLACO, TX — Visitation for Bernie E. Seils, who passed away October 7, 2002, will be held today, Wednesday, October 9, 2002 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at McCaleb Funeral Home Chapel in Weslaco.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 10, 2002 at 10 a.m. at McCaleb Funeral Home Chapel.

Interment will follow at Highland Memorial Park in Weslaco.

Isabel R. Arredondo

HARLINGEN, TX — Isabel "Chavelo" R. Arredondo, 84, entered into eternal rest to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 5, 2002, at his residence.

He was born on July 8, 1918, to Pedro and Delfina Arredondo, and raised by Jesus and Victoriana Arredondo.

He was a veteran of the United States Army, his love for his country was evident by all who knew and loved him. He was a retired farmer who enjoyed spending time outdoors.

He is survived by his five children, Pablo (Eva) Arredondo of Harlingen, Dora A. Puga of Toppenish, Wash., Delia (Evaristo) Flores of Harlingen, Isabel Arredondo Jr. of California, Agapito Arredondo of Harlingen; thirty grandchildren, and fifty-two great grandchildren.

He is also survived by his sister, Dominga A. Trevino of Harlingen; brothers, Leonardo Arredondo of Florida, Narciso Arredondo of Harlingen, Teodoro Arredondo of Harlingen, Jesus Arredondo of Port La Vaca, and Apolinar Arredondo of Harlingen.

He is preceded in death by his loving wife of fifty-one years, Francisca Lopez Arredondo; daughter, Janie A. Gonzalez; son, Alejos Arredondo; parents, Pedro and Delfina Arredondo; adoptive parents, Jesus and Victoriana Arredondo; his sister, Marcos Arredondo, and brother, Aurelio Arredondo.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, October 8, 2002, with a rosary at 7 p.m.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, at St. Helen’s Catholic Church at 10 a.m. in Rio Hondo. Funeral procession will be departing Garza / Elizondo Funeral Home at 9:15 a.m. for a Holy Mass at Saint Helens Catholic Church in Rio Hondo,  Texas, with Father Mario Castro as the celebrant. Interment will follow at El Muerto Cemetery in Harlingen,  Texas with fully military Honors under the Auspices of the American Legion Post #205 and V.F.W. Post #2410 of Harlingen,  Texas.

Pallbearers will be Ismael A. Flores, Israel A. Flores, Pablo Arredondo Jr., Rene Arredondo, Alejos Arredondo Jr., and Arturo Arredondo.

Honorable Pallbearers will be Leroy Flores, Evaristo (EJ) Flores Jr., Ricardo Arredondo, Leo Arredondo, and Earl Arredondo.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Garza / Elizondo Funeral Home of Harlingen,  Texas.

N. E. "Buddy" Brownlee Jr.

HARLINGEN, TX — N.E. "Buddy" Brownlee Jr., 81, a retired pilot, died Friday, Oct. 4, 2002, in Houston. Memorial service: 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church. Memorials: Shriners Rio Grande Chapter.

N. E. "Buddy" Brownlee Jr. was born Oct. 26, 1920, in New Orleans, La. He served his country as a pilot and captain in the U.S. Air Force during the World War II and the Korean War. Buddy retired from Delta Airlines after 30 years as a captain. He was an avid golfer, outdoorsman and an accomplished musician. He was a member of the Harlingen Country Club, St. Alban’s Episcopal Church and the Model A Club.

Buddy was preceded in death by his wife, C. Marguerite Brownlee; and brother Robert Brownlee.

Survivors: Son, Norman E. Brownlee III and wife, Renita, of Odessa; daughter, Ellen Shaw and husband, Bob, of Fort Worth; brother, French Brownlee and wife, Tess, of Houma, La.; grandchildren, Norman E. Brownlee IV and wife, Nicole, of North Richland Hills, Tracey Brownlee of Dallas, Brian Shaw and Logan Shaw, both of Austin, Katy Shaw and Elizabeth Shaw, both of Fort Worth and Shelby Gray of Austin; and great-grandchildren, Chloe and Bryanne Brownlee of North Richland Hills.

Jesus Balli Garcia

HARLINGEN, TX — Jesus B. Garcia, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, October 5, 2002 at Knapp Medical Center in Weslaco,  Texas.

He is survived by his wife, Aurora Garcia of Harlingen; daughters, Isabel (Robert) Chavez of Harlingen, Herlinda (Charles Leroy) Edwards of Maryville TN., son, Santiago (Viola) Garcia, sisters, Paula Lopez of Harlingen, Enriqueta Garcia of Houston; 8 Grandchildren, and 4 Great Grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Antonio Garcia and Isabel Balli Garcia; and one daughter, Ninfa Gandia. Mr. Garcia was an agent for Great Western Sugar Company out of Denver, Colorodo for 33 years.

Funeral service will be held today, October 8, 2002 at 2 p.m. at Rudy Garza Chapel of Peace with Pastor Robert Rodriguez officiating. Burial will follow at Alvarez Cemetery in Harlingen,  Texas.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Rudy Garza Funeral Home in Harlingen,  Texas.

Richard Leon Reyes

HARLINGEN — Richard Leon Reyes, age 20, died early Saturday morning at Valley Baptist Medical Center. He was a lifetime resident of Harlingen and attended Harlingen High School South. He was employed as a busboy.

Survivors include his mother, Petra Lopez of Harlingen; step-father, Juan M. Lopez of Harlingen; daughter, Sabrina Nadine Rodriguez of Harlingen; two sisters, Joanna Lopez of Harlingen and Jennifer Lopez of Harlingen; brother, Juan Manuel Lopez, Jr., of Harlingen; an uncle who helped raise him, Danny Campos of Harlingen; girlfriend, Brenda Morales; a special friend, Albert Castillo of Harlingen; and several uncles, aunts, nieces, and nephews.

Visitation will be today from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m., with a Holy Rosary to be held at 7 p.m. at the Chapel of Holy Spirit.

Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Las Rucias Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jose H. Resendez, Juan Manuel Lopez, Jose Martin Ramos, Isreal Ramos, Jr., Jaime Resendez, and Michael Ramos. Honorary Pallbearers will be Robert Ramos and Jose Martin Ramos, Jr.

Jesus B. Garcia

HARLINGEN — Jesus B. Garcia, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, October 5, 2002 at Knapp Medical Center in Weslaco,  Texas.

Visitation begins today, October 7, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 8, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. at the Rudy Garza Chapel of Angels with Pastor Robert Rodriguez officiating. Burial will follow at Alvarez Cemetery in Harlingen,  Texas.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Rudy Garza Funeral Home in Harlingen,  Texas.

Domingo Colchado Sr.

HARLINGEN — Domingo Colchado, Sr., age 60, passed away on Saturday, October 5, 2002. He is survived by his wife, Isaura Colchado of Harlingen; sons, Jose Ramiro Colchado and Domingo Colchado, Jr., of Harlingen, TX; daughters, Leticia C. Morales, and Mary C. Mesa, both of Chicago, IL, and Ruth P. Colchado of Harlingen, TX; 16 grandchildren; brother, Isidro Colchado of Caderita, Cadereyta, MX.

Visitation will be held Monday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. with a prayer service at 5 p.m. Chapel service will be held on Tuesday, October 8, 2002 at 10 a.m. at Mont Meta Restlawn Cox Funeral Home, officiating will be Pastor Rojelio Rojas of Iglesia La Luz Del Mundo Burial will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park in La Feria. Arrangements under the care of Mont Meta Restlawn Cox Funeral Home. 428-9004.

Simona S. Martinez

SAN BENITO — Simona S. Martinez, 69, passed away on Friday, October 4, 2002 at Dolly Vinsant Memorial Hospital.

She was born in Sequin,  Texas and has lived in San Benito for all her life.

She was a housewife and a member of Primera Iglesia Apostolica Church of San Benito.

She is survived by her children; sons Julian Martinez and Jose Martinez, both of San Benito; daughters, Emma M. Rodriguez of Harlingen and Gloria Martinez of San Benito; 15 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; 3 brothers and 3 sisters.

Mrs. Martinez was preceded in death by her parents, Sabino and Cira Sanchez; 1 daughter, Elena Martinez; and 2 brothers and 1 sister.

Visitation was held , at the church, Sunday at 1 p.m. Prayer services will also be conducted on Sunday at Primera Iglesia Apostolica, 443 Julian St. in San Benito. Mrs. Martinez will remain at the church until service time on Monday.

Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. on Monday October 7, 2002 with Pastor Jonas Banuelos officiating.

Interment will follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be her son and grandchildren, Joe Flores, Enrique Martinez, Samuel Rojas, Jody Macias, Chris Rojas, Joe Martinez.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of San Benito Funeral Home.
