Jessie L. Walker

RAYMONDVILLE, TX — Jessie Lee Walker, 85, passed away Friday, April 04, 2003 at Retama Manor Nursing Home in Raymondville, TX. He was born January 4, 1918 in Antlers,  Oklahoma to William Albert & Dora (Farar) Walker.

Graveside Service will be held Monday 10:00 a.m., April 7th, at the Raymondville Memorial Park Cemetery with Pastor Walter Pohland officiating.

He was a longtime resident of Raymondville and farmed all his life.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Dolores Jean Brandt Walker of Raymondville; two sons, Jesse Wayne (Janet) Walker and James Ronald (Kim) Walker both of Sinton; one daughter, Kathryn Jean (George) Young of Raymondville; one brother, Bert Walker of Columbia, KY; three sisters, Bertha Pearson and Della Fuller both of Nacogdoches, TX and Nora Bell Holland of San Antonio, TX. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents; a brother, William Walker and sisters, Alice Smith, Edna Lassiter and Ada Timmons.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Duddlesten Funeral Home.

Grace Creasey

HARLINGEN, TX — Grace (Nancy) B. Creasey, 78, passed away, Wednesday, April 2, 2003 at her residence in Harlingen. Nancy was born on September 8, 1924 in Italy. She had been a resident of Harlingen for the past 55 years moving here from St. Louis, MO.

Nancy was married for 53 years to George R. Creasey, Sr., who preceded her in death on March 22, 2001. She and George were retired business owners, having owned and operated Creasey’s Bowling Alley in Harlingen for many years.

Nancy is survived by her son, Jody Creasey and wife, Brenda; grandchildren, Robert Creasey, Michael Creasey, and Jaclyn Creasey; brother, Nick Belfiglio and wife, Geebie; nephews, Jeff Belfiglio and Nick Belfiglio.

Visitation hours will be held Friday, April 4, 2003 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be held at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home, 2 p.m., Friday, April 4, 2003, with Pastor Bill Reagan officiating. Entombment will follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park.

Pallbearer will be Robert Creasey, Michael Creasey, Rick Mathes, Mike Richardson, Chip Hall and Tom Rayburn.

For those desiring to do so memorial contributions may be made to one’s charity of choice.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home.

John Van Dalson

LA FERIA, TX — John C. Van Dalson, 92, passed away Tuesday, April 1, 2003 at his residence. John was born on February 5, 1911 in Western Springs, IL to Edward and Margaret Van Dalson.

He graduated from Michigan Tech University, with a degree in Metallurgy. John was owner/operator of a Heating & Cooling Business.

He had been a resident of Harlingen/La Feria area for over 15 years, coming from Kalamazoo, Michigan.

John is survived by his loving wife, Mary Van Dalson of La Feria; his daughters, Judith (Clinton) Van Der Kolk of Kalamazoo, MI, and Shelby (Jim) Wilson of Kalamazoo, MI; his son, Dr. John C. (Frances) Van Dalson of Traverse City, MI; five grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.

His brother, Edward Van Dalson, preceded John in death.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, April 5, 2003 at 4 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in La Feria with Reverend Monroe Landers officiating.

For those desiring to do so, memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church Building Fund, Box 5904, La Feria,  Texas 78559.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home.

Jose Chavez

HARLINGEN, TX — Jose Ascension Chavez 49, entered the Lord’s Kingdom April 2, 2003 at Valley Baptist Medical Center.

He was born December 22, 1953 in Mercedes, TX to Ascension and Angelita Chavez.

He is survived by his loving wife, Magdalena Chavez and their four children, Kim A. (Mary) Salinas, Angela (Michael) Schoonover, Jose Chavez Jr., and Jason Chavez; five grandchildren, Kim Salinas Jr., Kimberly Salinas, Aisha Martinez, Michael J. Schoonover and Chelsey Chavez; mother, Angelita Chavez all of Harlingen; eleven brothers and sisters, Lydia Rivera, Melissa Vasquez and Nicole Chavez all of Harlingen, David Chavez, Jaime Chavez, George Chavez, Rick Chavez, Andrea De Los Santos, Ofelia Torres, Dora Chavez and Freddy Chavez all of Colorado. He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Jose is preceeded in death by a sister, Carmen Gutierrez and his father, Ascension Chavez.

Honorary pallbearers will be George and Ricardo Chavez. Active pallbearers will be Kim Salinas, Jose Chavez Jr., Jason Chavez, Michael Schoonover, David Chavez and Jaime Chavez.

Visitations will be held today at 12 p.m. until 9 p.m. with prayer of the the Holy Rosary to begin at 7 p.m.

Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, April 5, 2003 at 10 a.m. at Queen of Peace Church. Interment will follow at Ashland Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of the Trinity Funeral Chapel.

Reynaldo Guzman

HARLINGEN, TX — Reynaldo Guzman, age 52, entered the Lords kingdom Thursday, March 27, 2003 in Toledo, Ohio.

He was born April 5, 1951 to Julian and Carmen Guzman who preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death is one brother, Alfonso Guzman.

He graduated from High School in Fremont, Ohio and served in the U.S. Army.

He is survived by 1 daughter, Sylvia (Richard) Farris of Lakeland, Florida; 1 son, Daniel Guzman of Harlingen; 4 brothers, Homero Guzman and Mario (Myra) Guzman both of La Paloma, TX, Rodolfo (Vicky) Guzman of Fostoria, Ohio, Ernesto Guzman of Harlingen; 4 sisters, Josefina Palacios of Matamoros, MX, Sulema (Eluterio) Reyes of Cuidad Juarez, MX, Flora (Antonio) Casas of Harlingen, and Edelmira (Teodoro) Sanchez of Brownsville; 3 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held Thursday, April 3, 2003 from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m.

Funeral service will be held Friday, April 4, 2003 at 10 a.m. at Chapel of the Holy Spirit with Pastor Robert Rodriguez officiating. Burial will follow to Heavenly Grace Memorial Park with military Honors under the Auspices of the American Legion #2410 and VFW Post #205 .

Pallbearers will be Ernesto Guzman, Eliazar Casas Jr., Tony Casas Jr., Horacio Palacios, Roque Tolentino Sr. and Manuel Hinojosa.

Funeral services are under the direction of Trinity Funeral Chapel, 1217 South F. Street, Harlingen, TX. 364-2444

Estefana R. Saldivar

HARLINGEN, TX — Estefana R. Saldivar, 82, entered into rest on April 1, 2003 in Harlingen,  Texas.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Nicolas Saldivar, Sr.

She is survived by 7 children, Aurelio Saldivar, Oscar Saldivar, Juanita Rodriguez, Nicolas Saldivar Jr., Antonio Saldivar, Santiago Saldivar, and Rosa Flores; 1 brother, Torivio Rodriguez; 1 sister, Enriqueta Hernandez and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held today, Thursday, from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. with a rosary to be prayed at 7 p.m. at the Rudy Garza Palms Chapel in La Feria.

The funeral procession will be held on Friday, April 4, 2003, departing the funeral home at 1:30 p.m. for a 2 p.m. Mass of Christian burial at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, interment will follow at Heavenly Grace Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be her grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Rudy Garza Palms Chapel in La Feria.

Fay Vernon Waldron

HARLINGEN, TX — Fay Vernon Waldron, 93, passed away Sunday, March 30, 2003 at Golden Palms Health Care Center in Harlingen,  Texas.

Fay was born on June 27, 1909 in Stratton, Nebraska to Arthur and Clara Waldron.

Fay married in 1933 to Bernice Ward in Nebraska and moved to Brownsville,  Texas in 1942. Soon after retirement, they became residents of Golden Palms Retirement Center in 1988.

Fay is survived by his daughter, Marcia (Bays) Bryant of Harlingen; his grandchildren, Brett (Cindy) Bryant of San Antonio, Tyler (Ellen) Bryant of San Antonio; his great grandchildren, Sarah, Lauren, Erin, and  Taylor Bryant all of San Antonio,  Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Bernice Waldron; and sister, Zelma Waldron.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, April 5, 2003 at 2 p.m. at Golden Palms Retirement Center.

For those desiring to do so, memorials may be made to the charity of their choice.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home.

Betty Beach

HARLINGEN, TX — Betty Beach was born in Chicago, Illinois on February 16, 1925, to Henry and Violet Schroeder. She married Charles Beach on June 6, 1943 in Sioux Falls, SD.

Betty was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and will be dearly missed by all her family and friends.

Betty retired from the Highland Division of Baxter Labs in Northeast Illinois in 1987. She was also a member of the Baxter Alumni Club.

Betty and her husband, Charles, lived in Lake Villa, IL until 1991 when they moved to Park Place Estates, Harlingen,  Texas. They also lived in Prescott Valley, AZ during the summer months, since 1995.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles, in June 1998.

She is survived by her sons, Terry, of Chino Valley, AZ, Chuck of Lake Villa, IL, and daughter, Jean (Michael) Jones, of Boone, Iowa; grandchildren, Jessica, Jennifer, and Christian of IL, and Kristofer and Jennifer of IA, and nine great grandchildren.

Betty was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Harlingen. She loved her church and church family. She volunteered in the Auxiliary in Valley Baptist Medical Center. Betty volunteered and participated in many activities in the park. She was a member of the kitchen Band and was often seen helping the kitchen staff prepare and clean up after meals. She sewed quilt blocks for comforters which were given to the needy in hospitals, orphanages and children’s homes in Mexico. She was an avid reader. Her greatest accomplishment and love were her children and family.

A memorial service will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church on 602 Morgan Blvd., in Harlingen,  Texas, Thursday, April 3, 2003 at 1 p.m. with Pastor Bill Reagan officiating.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home.

Ramon Juarez

RIO HONDO, TX — Ramon Juarez, 70, entered into rest on Monday, March 31, 2003 at his residence. He was born October 12, 1932 in Rio Hondo, TX to Antonio Hernandez and Trinidad Gutierrez.

He worked for Circle X Ranch for 44 years as a farmer. Ramon was an outdoor person. He enjoyed life. Ramon also enjoyed driving tractors, fishing, and hunting.

Survivors include his wife, Aurora O. Juarez; children, Juan Ramon Juarez, Marcelina (Abel) Corona, Senida J. Arredondo, Trina (Gonzalo) Ortega, Abel Juarez, Sylvia Juarez, Susana Juarez, Ramon (Maria Luisa) Juarez, Jr. and Sofia Juarez; grandchildren, Fidencio (Liz) Arredondo Jr., Benicio Juarez, Jose Luis Juarez, LeRoy Juarez, Abel Juarez Jr., Mark Garza, Leonel Ortega, David Juarez, Tina (Alex) Weaver, Janie Arredondo, Monica Hernandez, Isabel (Robert) Trevino, Jacklyn Juarez, Cindy Juarez, Rosalinda Ortega and Denise Juarez; great grandchildren, Ashley Zapata, Samantha Arredondo, Matthew Weaver, Mateo Arredondo and Julyssa Nicole Weaver; brothers, Santiago Gutierrez of Rio Hondo, Daniel Gutierrez of Rio Hondo, Marcelino Gutierrez of Bryan, TX and Esequiel Gutierrez of Fort Worth, TX; sisters, Ester Cortez of California and Estelle Cortez of Rio Hondo; several other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Antonio and Trinidad Hernandez and brother, Abelardo Gutierrez.

Visitation and rosary were held on Tuesday, April 1, 2003.

Funeral services will be held at St. Helen Catholic Church at 3 p.m., Wednesday, April 2, 2003. Interment will follow at Anacuitas Cemetery in Rio Hondo.

Pallbearers will be Abel Juarez, Ramon Juarez Jr., Jimmy Gutierrez, Fidencio Arredondo Jr., Abel Corona and Seferino Rodriguez.

Honorary pallbearers will be his grandsons, Fidencio Arredondo Jr., Benicio Juarez, Jose Luis Juarez, LeRoy Juarez, Abel Juarez Jr., Mark Garza, Leonel Ortega and David Juarez.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of San Benito Funeral Home, San Benito,  Texas.
