Angela Leal Robles

RIO HONDO — Angela Leal Robles, 87, passed away on Saturday, June 14, 2003 at Retama Manor Nursing Home. She was born at Rancho El Fresnal in San Benito, TX and lived in the San Benito and Rio Hondo area all her life. She was a housewife, and member of the Trinidad Assembly of God Church in Rio Hondo.

Mrs. Robles was a loving Mother and Grandmother. She will be greatly missed by all her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, also by many friends and relatives. Her memory will be always in our hearts and we know she is in God’s Hands.

The Robles family would like to give a special thanks to the Family Practice Residency Program and the Doctors and Staff for their care; also to Retama Manor Nursing Home. A special thanks to Nurse Amabeli Gonzales of Valley Baptist Hospice.

Mrs. Robles is survived by her children Sabas (Gollita) Robles of Rio Hondo, Andres (Dalia) Robles of San Benito, Ezequiel (Aurora) Robles of Rio Hondo, Baldemar Robles of San Benito, Esther (Eleazar) Guajardo of Rio Hondo, and Maria Magdalena Garza of San Benito; 27 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren.

Mrs. Robles was preceded in death by her husband, Ygnacio Robles in 1964 and her son and daughter, Ygnacio Robles Jr. and Petrita Robles in 1955.

Visitation will be held Sunday June 15, 2003 from 1p.m. to 9 p.m. and Monday 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. with Prayer services both nights at 7 p.m. at San Benito Funeral Home Chapel.

Services will be held on Tuesday, June 17, 2003 at Trinidad Assembly of God Church in Rio Hondo at 2 p.m. with Pastor Lazaro Olive officiating.

Entombment will be at Mont Meta Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Pallbearers will be Eleazar Guajardo Jr., Rollen Alaniz, David Carlos Gracia, Ryan Lee Garcia, David Castro Jr., and Aroldo Garza Jr.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of San Benito Funeral Home.

Emiliano Benavides

LOS FRESNOS, TX — Emiliano Benavides, 78, entered into rest on Friday, June 13, 2003 at Valley Baptist Medical Center. He was born September 4, 1924 in Pesqueria Chica, N.L. to Francisco Benavides and Victoria De La Rosa.

He worked more than 50 years with Bayview Water District #11. He was always busy around the house doing mechanical work and yard work.

He is survived by his wife, Francisca Benavides; daughters, Jacinta Benavides, Francisca Benavidez and Laura Rocha; sons, Gilberto Ulluela, Isidro Ulluella, Ramiro Benavides and Gilberto Ulluela, Jr.; 21 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held at the San Benito Funeral Home from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a rosary at 7 p.m. on Saturday, June 14, 2003.

Funeral services are pending and will be announced at a later date. Pallbearers will be Guadalupe Ortiz, Ivan Benavides, Michael Benavides, Rudy Benavides, Jr., Isidro Ulluela, Jr. and Frank Ulluela.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of San Benito Funeral Home, San Benito,  Texas.

Maria G. Canales

HARLINGEN, TX — Harlingen resident Maria G. Canales entered eternal rest after a long illness on June 10,. 2003, at age 94.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Levi E. Canales; her sons, Reynaldo Canales and Ramiro Canales.

She is survived by her daughter, Gloria C. Corkill of San Benito, five grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her daughters-in-law, Antonia A. Canales (Reynaldo) of Harlingen, three grandchildren and four great grandchildren; and Gloria G. Canales (Ramiro) of Harlingen, three grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Visitation was held Thursday, June 12, 2003 from 12 noon to 9 p.m. at Trinity Funeral Chapel. A holy rosary was recited at 7 p.m. that evening.

A holy mass will be held today, Friday, June 13, 2003 at 2 p.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Harlingen. Interment will follow to Restlawn Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Robert Corkill, Ronnie Corkill, Raymond Corkill, Ruben Corkill, Reynaldo Canales, and George Canales.

We would like to thank those people from the Harlingen Nursing Center and Valley Baptist Medical Center who cared for her.

Funeral arrangements will be under the direction of Trinity Funeral Chapel 1217 South F. Street Harlingen,  Texas

Luz Garcia Coronado

LA FERIA, TX — Luz Garcia Coronado, 70, entered into rest on Monday at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen, TX.

Mrs. Coronado is survived by her loving husband of 51 years Irineo Coronado of La Feria, TX; children, Juan J. (Eva) Coronado of Harlingen, Pedro Coronado of Houston, TX, Martin (Vicky) Coronado of La Feria, Raul (Maria Anita) Coronado of Raymondville, TX; 2 daughters, Fidencia Fonseca and Rosa Garza; 8 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.

Visitation will be held today, Thursday, June 12, 2003, from 10 a.m. until 9 a.m. at the Rudy Garza Chapel of Peace with a prayer service to be held at 7 p.m.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 13, 2003, at 10 a.m. at the Rudy Garza Chapel of Peace. Interment will follow at Ashland Memorial Park Cemetery in Harlingen, TX.

Pallbearers will be Juan J. Coronado, Mark Coronado, Martin Coronado, Raul Coronado, Sr., Raul Coronado, Jr., and Frank Coronado.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Rudy Garza Funeral Home in La Feria,  Texas.

Thomas "Tom" E. Cooper

HARLINGEN, TX — Thomas "Tom" E. Cooper, 82, passed away after a sudden illness, Sunday, June 8, 2003 at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen,  Texas.

Mr. Cooper was born in Des Moines, Iowa on September 18, 1920.

Tom is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Barbara Shreves Cooper; his daughter, Susan (James) Price of Aurora, Illinois; his grandchildren, Shannon Daugherty and Chad Daughterty; his four great grandchildren; and his sister, Sally (Mrs. Noah) Lacona are all in Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, William Jennings Bryan Cooper and Catherine Maxwell Cooper; his brother, John R. Cooper.

Tom served his country in the Air Corp from September 1941 through October 1945 in Italy and North Africa. After returning stateside he worked at N.W. Bell until 1973, when he returned, he and Barbara retired to live in Harlingen,  Texas. Tom and Barbara were active members at First Presbyterian Church; Tom belonged to the Harlingen Elks Lodge #1889 and was a fifty year member of the Masonic Lodge; and belonged to ZaGaZig Shrine in Iowa.

Memorial services will be held Wednesday, June 11, 2003 at 10 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church with Reverend Justin  Jones officiating.

For those desiring to do so, memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church or charity of one’s choice.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home.

Alexis Nicole Perez

HARLINGEN — Alexis Nicole Perez, 1 year 7 months old, entered into rest on Friday at her residence.

She is survived by her loving parents Rogerio and Sandra Perez of Harlingen, TX; maternal grandparents Aristeo and Rita Castillo; paternal grandparents Rogerio and Maria Perez; and numerous uncles, aunts and cousins.

The funeral procession will depart the Rudy Garza Funeral Home today, Monday August 11, 2003 at 1:30 p.m. for a 2 p.m. Catholic funeral service at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church with Deacon Juan Valenzuela as the celebrant. Interment will follow at Ashland Memorial Park Cemetery in Harlingen, TX.

Pallbearers will be Alex Perez, Gabriel De La Garza, Joe Huerta and Santos Garcia.

Arrangements are under the direction of Rudy Garza Funeral Home.

Ernest Summers

PORT ISABEL —Ernest Summers, 78, passed away Tuesday, August 5, 2003 at Valley Baptist Medical Center. Ernest was born on May 22, 1925 in Parkersburg,  West Virginia to Ernest Cleveland and Agnes O’Donnell Summers.

Ernest was a retired CPA and C.E.O. He had lived in Parkersburg, W.VA, Buffalo, NY, Fallbrook, CA; and now is a resident of Port Isabel, TX. Ernest was a member of the 3 rd Infantry, serving in W.W.II and received two Purple Hearts. He was also a member of American Legion.

Ernest is survived by his loving wife, Joy Miller Summers; sons, Michael Stuart Summers, David Patrick Summers, and Kirk Adam Summers; sister Doris Summers Barret and sister-in-law Connie Miller Stevens; brother-in-law Clark Stuart Miller; and five grandchildren, Diana Summers, Benjamin Summers, Michelle Summers, Joshua Summers, and Jordan Summers.

Memorial services will be held on Monday, August 11, 2003 at Chapel by Sea on South Padre Island,  Texas at 9 a.m. with Pastor Randy Coney officiating.

For those desiring to do so, memorials may be made tot he American Lung Association or American Heart Association.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home.

Virginia Anderson

SAN BENITO, TX — Virginia Elizabeth Knoch Anderson, age 80, passed away August 5, 2003, in Houston,  Texas. She was born in Lincoln, Kansas and moved to San Benito in 1956.

She worked for South  Texas Lumber & Supply for 34 years, retiring in 1988.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of San Benito and a member of P.E.O. Chapter CW.

She is survived by daughters, Jacque Anderson, Katie (D.D) Jackson; son, Jon (Patricia) Anderson; and grandson, David Knoch Jackson.

A memorial service will be held at Thomae Funeral Home, 701 N. Bowie St., San Benito on Saturday, August 9, 2003, at 2 p.m.

Honorary pallbearers are Art Nowakowski, Jim Benson, Bill McBride, Ignacio Elizondo, Rob Burley, Hunter Scales, Vic Carrington and Larry Drake.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Dolly Vinsant Hospital in San Benito, Harlingen Humane Society, First Presbyterian Church in San Benito, or any charity of your choice.

Local arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Thomae Funeral Home, 701 N. Bowie, San Benito.

Miguel Lumbreras

MERCEDES, TX — Miguel Lumbreras, 53, passed away Wednesday night at Knapp Medical Center in Weslaco.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Marcelina Vela in 1992 and his father, Isidro Lumbreras in 1994 and is survived by his daughter, Linda Resendez of San Benito; his mother, Eufracia Lumbreras of Mercedes; two brothers, Enrique Lumbreras and Alberto Lumbreras both of Mercedes; six sisters, Juana Guevara, Guadalupe Vela, Marta Garces all of Mercedes, Maria Fernandez of Modesto, CA, Emma Soto of Nipomo, CA, and Rosa Maria Lumbreras of La Villa; also surviving are five grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Friday from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. at the funeral home chapel, a rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Mercedes. Interment will follow at Ebony Grove Cemetery also in Mercedes.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Garcia & Trevino Funeral Home of Mercedes.

Dora Davila

RAYMONDVILLE, TX — Dora Davila, 91, passed away Tuesday, August 5, 2003 at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen,  Texas. She was born December 11, 1911 in Raymondville,  Texas.

Funeral service will be held Friday, 10 a.m., August 8, 2003 at St. Anthony Catholic Church. Burial will follow at the Raymondville Memorial Park Cemetery. A rosary will be held Thursday, 7 p.m. at Duddlesten Chapel.

She is survived by her two sons, Arturo Davila, Jr. of Harlingen and David Davila of Houston; four daughters, Perla (Onesimo) Gonzalez of Harlingen, Elva Leal of Raymondville, Ida (Manuel) Cortinas of Angleton, TX and Cristina Reoh of Houston. She is also survived by three sisters, 1 brother, 21 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.

Mrs. Davila was a native of Raymondville, devoted catholic, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and was loved by everybody who knew her. She will be greatly missed by all. Pallbearers will be Ricky Gonzalez, Arturo Gonzalez, Richard Molina, Eric Molina, Darrell Davila and Scottie Reoh.

Honorary pallbearers will be Manuel Cortinas, Mike Gonzalez, Onesimo Gonzalez, Tomas Rebollado, Richard Molina Sr. and John Bayreaux.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Duddlesten Funeral Home.
